One of the important tasks within the e-ARH.si project is to explore and to standardize the concepts of describing of archival material. The paper presents the situation and perspectives in the field of use of standards for the description of archival material, persons, functions and archival institutions. At the same time, the paper provides an overview of the situation in the field of describing in Slovenia in comparison with some foreign cases, with emphasis on where to find common ground and key divergences. The results obtained from the analysis offer answers to potential solutions of ensuring a higher quality of describing and presentation of information provided and offered by the Slovenian public archival service.
