Grmič responded to societal and especially social issues in accordance with the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and the Church’s social doctrine. Therefore, the accusations of his politicisation are unjustified and only expose the moral questionability and rejection of the Church doctrine of his critics. He referred to the theology of earthly realities, which instructs that it is the duty of Christians to shape social conditions according to the principle of gospel justice. As a Christian, one must not withdraw from the world but rather work for the betterment of humanity, even if it comes at a cost. It is important to accept the autonomy of the world and adapt accordingly. Dialog and cooperation are key virtues, especially when dealing with people who hold different views. A Christian should be at the forefront of addressing current societal issues, particularly those brought about by neoliberal capitalism, the ecological crisis, and globalization. Grmič believed in dialogue with both socialist society and capitalism, and later with the ideology of globalism. Throughout his life, he remained a defender of Christian values and human dignity. This is his lifelong message and encouragement to Slovenian Christians today.
