The author aims to present the fields covered by the Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia, with a focus on the work carried out during more than two years of the author’s term at the head of the Ministry. It is a ministry that holds its hand over the public sector wage system, which is around €5 billion a year (i.e. about 10 percent of Slovenia’s GDP). It is also the ministry that takes care of public procurement, and through the procurement system it covers 12 percent of GDP in 2021. In addition, it is responsible for systemic legislation in the area of local self-government, which covers an additional €2.5 billion, i.e. around 5 per cent of GDP (with some overlap in wages in schools and kindergartens, i.e. overlapping with financial funds for local self-government mentioned previously). As a former minister, the author is satisfied with the work and results of the ministry. Not very pleased, but satisfied, and he explains why. On the other hand, he is very pleased with the colleagues and the shape in which he leaves the Ministry. Especially the people at the Ministry, experts, are a great capital for the future, great added value for the Slovenian state administration.
