Patients with autoimmune diseases are at risk when it comes to clinical outcomes related to SARS-CoV-2 infections. Recent studies have shown that patients with autoimmune diseases with other associated conditions (e.g. diabetes and hypertension) and immunosuppressive treatment present a risk factor and can worsen the outcome of patients if infected. It is a fact that vaccine efficacy trials and trials about covid-19 clinical effects often include immunocompetent participants, while data about immunocompromised patients is scarce. Autoimmune patients and medical staff could benefit from further research of risk factors and treatment in case of infection.
