Corporate governance can be defined as one of the most important factors that contribute to the improvement of economic efficiency and growth, as well as greater investor confidence. Effective corporate governance is also important for the entire national economy as it has a positive effect on confidence, which is essential for a developed market economy. This stimulates economic growth as the cost of capital is lower and companies use their resources more efficiently. Corporate governance of insurance undertakings focuses on how such undertakings are governed, managed and supervised. Taking into account the choice of the corporate governance system in the insurance sector, the subject of the research assignment is selected markets of Southeast Europe, namely Croatia, Serbia, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro. A comparative economic-legal analysis of corporate governance in the insurance sector has been carried out with regard to the selected markets.
