Appraisal criteria which archivists use in the process of appraisal are determined by ZVDAGA. The purpose of this article is to reach findings whether all criteria are equal and necessary to use during appraisal of different forms of records and what criteria must be taken under account when determining archival records. When conducting appraisal, it is necessary to be aware for whom and for what purpose a record should be determined as archival records, which also depends on the application of appraisal criteria. For this article the author uses a description method to provide an overview of appraisal criteria. Also, survey regarding the use of criteria was conducted among archivists who work with creators and appraise records. Based on answers of survey, analysis of criteria is performed. The use of appraisal criteria depends on the field in which creator of archival records operates. Therefore, not all the criteria need to be equivalently used during the process of appraisal.
