Recently, in his 95. year Professor Janez Šmidovnik, Phd. died. Until the very end he was active, also in the judicial sphere. In his long life he has established himself as a great and renowned legal expert. Most of the time he has been employed in the State administration, almost all the time at the Government Office for legislation. He has been also a Professor of public administration at the Faculty of Administration of the University of Ljubljana. He was dealing particularly with issues in the fields of administration, public administration, public services, and local government. In these areas he has established himself as one of the leading or leading expert, particularly in the area of local government. He has been always engaged and critically responded to social events, with articles and other polemic records in which he has always sharply, precisely and ironically analysed social developments, especially political ones. He left a major gap as a legal expert and as a man behind.
