Introduction: The human vestibular system enables mediation of reflexes that contribute to the control of balance and performance of daily activities. The most common disorder affecting the functioning of the vestibular system is vertigo. The aim of this study was to review the literature and investigate the impact of vestibular therapy on the quality of life in people suffering from vertigo and other vestibular system dysfunctions.Methods: A literature review was conducted using the following international databases: PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and SAGE Journals. A total of 12 articles met the inclusion criteria (original and peer-reviewed scientific articles published between 2012 to 2021 and available in full text) and were therefore included in the analysis. The literature review process is illustrated using a PRISMA diagram.Results: On the basis of a thematic analysis, four thematic categories were identified: types of vestibular therapy methods used to treat vertigo and vestibular dysfunction; success rates of vestibular therapy methods used to treat vertigo and vestibular dysfunction; adverse effects and complications of vestibular therapy; impact of vestibular therapy on the quality of life of people suffering from vertigo and vestibular dysfunction.Discussion and conclusion: The results of our systematic literature review indicate that vestibular therapy is a very safe and effective treatment for vertigo and vestibular dysfunction. The field of vestibular dysfunction is witnessing a surge in the introduction and exploration of technologically advanced and promising methods of vestibular therapy.
