Notes
In the doctoral thesis entitled The theme of an artist, art, and artistic creation in the prose of modern male and female writers from the Koroška region, I discussed selected literary works of more notable modern male and female writers from the Koroška region. The first part of the thesis focuses on the concept of art, while trying to expand its perspective in a wider social reality with the help of three interconnected disciplines, which are philosophy, psychology and literature. More attention was given in particular to the latter since I am interested in its permeability, which is mostly reflected in the integration of music and also fine art. In its introduction, the thesis also deals with triviality, whereby I mainly lean on the findings of Miran Hladnik who researched the theme in detail in the Slovenian literary-historical area, and Alojzija Zupan Sosič. The first part of the thesis continues to focus on the theoretical starting points on which the study will be based. Firstly, I clearly and accurately established the purpose and objectives, work methods, and wrote assumptions. Theoretical findings are based on the following starting points: theme and motive, which I summarized as the concepts according to various literary theorists (Daemmrich, Juvan, Kos, Kmecl), symbol (Lotman, Čeh, Kernev Štrajn), literary space (Lotman, Čeh), and imagology (Smolej, Pageaux). All concepts, the fundamental two being motive and theme, are mutually intersected by literature observation which is discussed in this thesis. The core of the first part is represented by the review and analysis of the literary works of Janez Mrdavšič, Tone Turičnik, Ivanka Hergold, Vinko Ošlak, Andrej Makuc, Cvetka Bevc, Silvija Borovnik, Matjaž Pikalo, and Barbara Simoniti. I derived from the motive and thematic analysis and from linguistic and stylistic peculiarities, which are contained in the literature by the modern male and female writers from the Koroška region. In the second part, I introduced works of literature which were discussed in analyses, and these are: - the novel Skozi soteske (1997) by Janez Mrdavščič; - two short-story collections Prazno nebo, Samomor v nebesih by Marjan Kolar, and selected novels by the same writer Išči poldan (1967), Robinozonova zastava (2005), and Primer profesorja Klasinca (2008); - complete prose works by Vinko Ošlak: Hagar (1992), Človeka nikar (1995), and Obletnica mature (1998) with selected essays; - short-story debut by Andrej Makuc Spominjam se ... a že? (1995) with cycles Posnetki s samim seboj; - novels Soba gospe Bernarde (2007), Ina (2011) and Potovci (2011), short-story collection Zgodbe iz somraka (2007) by Cvetka Bevc; - short-story collection Strašljivke (1990) by Sivija Borovnik; - the novel Modri e (1998), Drevored ljubezni in vojne (2001), Dežela angelov (2011) by Matjaž Pikalo; - short-story collection Razdalje (1998) by Barbara Simoniti, and collections of poems Zatišnost (1997), Zlati dež (2000), Sončni obrat (2011). Then I introduced the starting point of the analysis on how to research the theme of the artist, art and artistic creation. I focused mainly on three basic starting points which are observed with regard to the a) lifestyle of the artist and their attitude towards b) their own creations, and c) the wider society. In their cores, I derive from different subcategories which are woven into the motive and theme network of the artist, art, and artistic creation. The final conclusion is intended to present the doctoral thesis, its conclusions, or open questions, which arose during the study, in a wider aspect.
