Ameriška slovenska duhovščina je tedaj v veliki večini pripadala tej skupini ter v Ameriki vodila izdajalsko politiko doktorja Šušteršiča in kanonika Lampeta. Ta dva sta tudi bila odgovorna, da je orožništvo zaprlo duhovnika Jurija Trunkc (Pisano polje) ter pisatelja Franca K. Meška. List "Clevelandska Amerika" sedaj Ameriška Domovina, jc podpiral Slovensko . ligo. Tedanji urednik je spisal uvod k bro-šuri "Slovenija vstani!", ki jc vsebovala govor dr. Nike Zupančiča, člana jugoslovanskegf londonskega odbora, in katetre je liga izdala. Marsikoga bo zanimajo, kaj je tedanji urednil mislil o onih, ki so zavajali ameriške Slovence v protijugo-slovansko politiko, in kakšne stališče je zavzemal napran. "svobodni" JugpslavUi. ki se tedaj še ni porodila.' Dne 7. majt 1916 je zapisal sledeče: "Mi, ki živimo v Ameriki, smi dobri in zvesti ameriški državljani, ki smo kot taki prekinil) vsako zvezo s suženjsko Avstri«1 jo. Mi spoštujemo-ustavo in po^ stave Zedinjenih držav, mi sle dimo naši ameriški vladi ter st veselimo svobode, ki jo tukaj uživamo. Poštenost in resnica vedno zmagata! * JPO-SS izročil $25.000 za WRFASSD Na seji izvršnega odborti SANSa je blagajnik JPO-SS, bral Leo Jurjovec, izročil ček za $25,-000, katero vsoto je ta odbor zaključil prispevati za takojšnjo pomoč narodu v stari domovini. Za to vsoto bodo nakuplje-ne medicinske potrebščine za Slovenijo. Ta in drugi priap« v-ki zadnje dni so zvišali skupno vsoto v fondu VVRFSSD nad $230,000, ali skoraj četrt milijc-na dolarjev. Do 30. novembra je bilo poslanega in odposlanega iz SANSovega urada $26 913,-67 v Nevv Vork. Frank Masle, blagajnik naše podružnice v Llttlo Fallau, N. Y., nam je poslal ta teden za SANS $200, za pomožno akcijo pa $1,118. Odbor sedaj zbira obleko in bo poročal o skupnem rezultatu kasneje. Malokatera naselbina se more primerjati temu mestecu v aktivnosti, bodisi za SANS ali ju pomožno akcijo. Niek Triller, tajnik podružnice v LlbrarrJu. Iz La Salla, 111.. je poslala sestra Ema Shimkus, blagajničar- gre $10, drugo SANSu. Po zaključku naših računov za november smo prejeli nadaljnje zneske še od sledečih: Jaeob Brljavac lz South Chicaga nam je baš ob pisanju te kolone Uročil tek za $1000, kar so darovali savernl Istrani /a i možno akcijo. Zraven je pripomnil: Ta ček vam izročamo, ka podružnice, $30 za SANS ter d.a ^f0*1^ nu pristojno me-$270 za pomožno akcijo. Za podružnico v Sharonu. Pa., je poslal blagajnik Anton Va-lentinčič ček za $50 za relif. lz blagajne so darovali $25, drugih $25 pa je daroval Slovenski narodni dom. Iz St. LouiBa, Mo.. nam pošilja tajnica podružnice št. 23, sestra Theresa Speck, ček za $100, kar je darovalo društvo št. 107 SNPJ. Obleke so poslali v Nevv sto za takojšnjo pomoč narodom v novi Jugoslaviji. Obenem pa l prosimo in apeliramo, da se ne 1 pozabi našega naroda iz Istre, * ki je krvavel pod Italijo že toliko let in hrepenel, da se združi nekoč s svojimi biati v Jugoslaviji. Predsednik skupnega odbora ter gl. predsednik KSKJ, brat John Germ, poroča, da je skupna veselica prinesla $417.95 čistega dobička, društvo Sv. Gornje besede in žgoče obsodbe tudi ne veljajo komunistom, socialistom in drugim pristašem Osvobodilne fronte, marveč svojim lastnim klerikalnim pristašem, ki so se z ljubljanskim škofom Rož-manom na čelu prodali z dušo in telesom Hitlerjevim nacifašistič-nim barbarom in organizirali "domobrance" zu pobijanje svojega lastnega naroda. Kuharjev! govori (objavljeni so bili v dnevniku Prosvete) so zelo značilni. Prvič dr. Kuhar postavlja na glavo vso zavajalno propagando slovenske klerikalne bande, ki se v tej deželi zbrala pod firmo Zveze slovenskih župnij in pričela zlivati gnojnico laži, potvurjunju in strašenja nu Osvobodilno fronto v starem kraju in tudi na njene vodilne pristaše v tej deželi. Predvsem je zmetala veliko blatu nu Louisa Adamiča, katerega je enostavno proglasila zu— boljševiškegu hudiča s tisoč rogovi. To svojo propugundo laži, blatenju in zuvujanja trosi že mnogo mesecev skoraj dun zu dnem, teden zu tednom v Ameriški Domovini, kateri bi lahko tudi Goebbels dul nacijsko kolajno kot pri-znanje zu strašenje s komunističnim in boljševiškim bavbavom. Seveda Kuhurjevi govori niso bili adresirani Zvezi slovenskih župnij v Clevelandu in njenim klerikalnim pristašem širom dežele, marveč slovenskim klerikulcem v stari domovini, ki so padli tuko globoko, du so postali izdajulei tn merilci lastnega narodu pa odprti Hitlerjevi pristaši, kateremu so prisegli zvestobo. Glavni l>ovzročitelj te največje, todu popolnoma logične klerikalne dege-nerlranostl je seveda Ijubljunski škof Kožman, ki je enako kriv i/dajalstvu kot general Rupnik. Oba /aslu/ila enako kazen, Ampak /u tragično sliko, katero |c dr. Kuhur naslikal in ogorčeno obsodil v svojih govorih, tudi on ni povsem nedolžen. Kot bivši uicdntk ljubljanskega Slovenca Mi eden gluvnih voditeljev klenkulne Slovenske ljudske stranke, Je .s podpiranjem klerofuši-stičnega hurharstvu v Avstriji in Španiji pridno gnojil tlu, na ku-terih so se rszvili Hitlerjevi m Mussolinijevi pristaši in |>ostuli i/dujulci in morilci svojegs naroda. V Prosveti je bilo že povedano, da so za članstvo prav tako potrebne društvene seje kot druge odredbe, katere določajo jednotina pravila. Resnica je, da je mnogo članov pod vtisom, da ni potrebno prihajati na društvene seje, kar pa je popolnoma napačno mnenje. V slučaju, ako bi bili vsi člani pri društvu tega mnenja, potem bi društvo ne imelo obstanka, toliko manj pa še napredka v kakem naprednem smislu, in bi bilo podobno slabemu kmetovalcu, kateri se ne zanima za svojo lastnino. Ako bi kmetovalec šel na polj* le ob času setve in vsejal seme, potem pa vse skupaj prepustil lastni usodi vse leto, kako naj bi potem pričakoval dobrega uspeha od tistega, kar je vsejal, ne da bi se bil od časa do časa zanimal za polje in ga kul-tiviral? In tako je z vsem, kar človek potrebuje za svoje življenje in obstanek. Pri tem tudi niso naša društva izvzeta in je naša dolžnost, da se zanimamo zanje in njihov obstoj in napredek. Od vsakega posameznika že to samo od sebe zahteva, da se v danih razmerah zanima za to, od kar pričakuje pomoč v gotovem času zase in svojo družino. Torej bratje in sestre društva št. 47, vsi priznamo, da društvo je nam vsem potrebno v razmerah kakršne še sedaj vladajo nad nami, in zato je naša dolžnost, de se zanimamo za društvene seje vedno. Posebno pa se priporočf članstvu društva 47, da se pol-noštevilno udeleži letne seje 17. decembra ali tretjo nedeljo ob 2. uri jpopoldne. John Gorsek, tajnik. dramo "Norec". Ako je nam res kaj do slovenske kulture, potem bomo v nedeljo vsi pohiteli v dvorano SNPJ in zasedli vse sedeže! Igralci se bodo potrudili, da bodo dobro igrali, vi pa jih nagradite z veliko udeležbo. Pred igro nastopi z nekaj pesmimi pevski zbor Naprej i t Milwaukeeja, Frank Zaitz, urednik Proletarca, pa bo spregovoril nekaj besed. V igri nastopijo sledeči igralci in igralke: Angela Zaitz, Marya Omahen-Mohar, Ann Zimmer, Ernestine M oh ar, John Rak, John Olip in Milan Medvešek. Režiser je Milan Medvešek, Katka Zupančič pa suflerka. Po igri bo ples in domača zabava. Za ples igra Gradišek-Omerzov orkester. Pričetek ob treh popoldne. V NEDELJO VSI V DVORANO SNPJI Chicago, IU,—Naše kulturno gibanje je bilo nekaj časa precej v zastoju. Odrejeno je bilo ra-cioniranje raznih potrebščin, ki se jih potrebuje za priredbe in zaeno je bilo poklicanih k vojakom mnogo naših diletantov. Počasi pa zopet prihajamo k sebi. V tej sezoni je bilo podanih že nekaj uspešnih kulturnih priredb v raznih slovenskih naselbinah. V Clevelandu, Pueblu, Detroitu in drugod se zopet bolj pogostoma oglašajo. Tudi v Chicagu ne smemo zaostajati na kulturnem polju. Pred krotkem jc imel pevski zbor France Prešeren uspešen koncert in lep varijantni program. Dvorana SNPJ je bila natlačena. Imenitno je uspela tudi 40-letnica SNPJ, ni kateri je nastopila slovita operna pevka Zinka Milanova. V nedeljo (to nedeljo!) pa vprizori klub št. 1 JSZ sijajno VABILO NA SEJO IN DRUGO West Allis. Wis. — Delavske razmere so dobre, ker delamo vsi. V Prosveti čitam, da se naši ljudje sedaj zelo zanimajo za pomoč našim rojakom. Tako je prav; Slovenci v stari domovini krvavo potrebujejo naše pomoči. Zadnjič smo pokazali tudi v West Allitfu, da se lahko precej skupaj spravi, ako se zavzamemo. Nekateri so že veliko prispevali za jugoslovansko trpeče ljudstvo, a nekateri pa še niče->ar. Če je že, da bi se tudi njim Dmehčalo srce. Na dnevinem redu bomo imeli več važni^ zadov in izvo-Mli bomo društveni odbor za 1. glede domače zabave, katero bomo priredili na Starega leta večer. Prav tako imamo urediti glede društvene blagajne. Pri našem društvu smo plačevali to leto po lOc mesečno i v društveno blagajno. Toda td rti zadostovalo, ker so se razmere spremenile. Potrebno je, da imamo vedno tudi nekaj denarja v blagajni, tako da smo v položaju, darovati kadar nanese potreba. Pridite na sejo, da ne boste potem govorili, da uveljavlja društvene sklepe samo nekaj uradnikov in članov. Dolžnost vas vseh je, da posetite letno sejo in pomagate reševati te zadeve, da ne boste potem godrnjali, da imamo zopet doklado. Tudi glede naših članov-voja-kov, ki se bojujejo za nas na krvavih poljanah jx> vsem svetu, moramo kaj ukreniti in jim podariti kaj za božične praznike ter jim tako pokazati, da nismo pozabili nanje. Z veseljem naznanjam, da ni bil do sedaj še nobeden naših članov ubit, dasiravno so vsi on- Tretje dejanje se vrši v gorah, stran morja na bojiščih. Rešiti imamo vse bolj važne reči in vprašanja, zlasti pa tista, ki se nanašajo na poslovanje društva v bodočem letu Potrebno in važnega pomena za vsako poedino društvo je, da na zadnji seji vsakega leta skrbno, premotri svoje preteklo delovanje, nato pa na podlagi premišljenih dognanj in izkušenj poskuša popraviti napake in odpraviti nedostatke, ter da z dobrimi sklepi in. zdravimi smernicami za bodoče energično in nadepolno začne novo leto. Pravila nam sicer predpisujejo, kake sposobnosti ali kvalifikacije morajo-imeti kandidati za društvene odbornike in potrebno je. da se to vpošteva. Ampak pravila ne povedo vsega. Največje važnosti je, da ima društvo v svojem vodstvu člane, ki nimajo le kvalilikacij, kakršne predpisujejo pravila, temveč so tudi drugače dobri, aktivni in požrtvovalni za svojo organizacijo, to je za društvo in jednoto, ter ji poskušajo po svojih najboljših močeh pomagati do čim večjega uspeha in napredka. Društvo, ki ima tak odbor, je ugledno in navadno tudi nima posebnih težav s pridobivanjem novih članov. Zato pa si štcjmo za resno bratsko dolžnost, da se udeležimo decembrske seje ter pri izbiranju članov za vodstvo svojega drutšva vestno pomagajmo. Resna dolžnost vsakega izmed nas je, da pomagamo in poskušamo izbrati najboljše, ker le tako bomo ohranili svoje društvo energično živo k')i jo treba, ter načelno zdravo. Pri tem pa ne pozabimo, da je tudi naša dolžnost sprejeti odborniško mesto in ne odklanjati, ako nas društvo hoče!— Zaslužijo našo podporo Kot na vse drugo, vojne razmere dokaj neugodno vplivajo tudi na življenje naših društev, zlasti pa trpe slovenska kulturna društva v Ameriki. Kljub temu pa vidimo, da dajejo svoje pri-11 ditve tudi v teh težkih časih, kar znači, da se hočejo ohraniti pri življenju na vsak način ter gojiti našo narodno kulturo v tej de-*eli še dolgo časa. Največ tega je seveda po večjih slovenskih na-^elbmah, kakor so Chicago, Milwiftikee, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New Vork m CleOeland, ter še po nekaterih drugih krajih. Prednjaci pa v tom oziru Cleveland, kjer je največ naših ljudi kompaktno naseljenih in največ našega kulturnega bogastva. Kot znano, imajo vsa naša kulturna društva težak boj za obsta-n« k. Kljub temu pa vztrajajo in pridno gojijo slovensko dramo in slovensko pesem naprej, ter tako poskušajo ohraniti ta nai narodni biser pri življenju tudi v tej deželi še za bodočo genera-"Jo Žato jim gre čast in hvaležno priznanje! First of aH, vve ali kriovv that our SNPJ official organ, the Prosveta, has the largest circulation of aH our papers in this country. In fact, since the invasion of Slovenia three and a half years ago, Proaveta became not only the leading Siovene newspaper on this continent hut in the worid as well. As sueh it occupies an important position and its influence assumes a much greater »čope. Therefore, it is our duty to constantly strive to i m prove its serviee, maintain its standard and spread its influence. Likevvise, its three-page English Section has the largest number of readers and contributors of ali our fraternal organs, and as sueh it commands the attention of the largest number of our young people. It is an undisputable fact that Proaveta is in every respect the best balanced and most effective of our publications. Therefore, »t is of vital importance for our organ not only to retain its position and its reputation but also to stiive to gain wider circulation and new members. This section of the official organ is primarily devoted to lodge, federation, labor, cultural, social and educational read-ing matter. Of necessity, aH lodge and federation news always rtcclves first eonsideratmn for the obvious reason that it iš of piimary importance to the Society as well as to its lodges and federations. Ali other material, therefore, including personal Items, ls of secondary Importance and is printed only after ali lodge nevvs on hand is printed. Occasionally, some of our contributors attach lengthy yarns to their lodge announcements, while others send in lengthy diseourses and subordinate their lodge news to the last few Ilnes. Therefore, lt would be good practice to ellmlnate ali un-impoitant matter from lodge news and vvrite a separate article on whatever other subject one desires. Also, while we ali knovv that quantity does not nocessar»ly bespeak quality, some of our contributors often transgress in this respect. It isn't space alone that tomes into consideration at this polnt, but also an application of the long-established rule—namely, that brevity is the soul of wit. We bave an established rule that the Prosveta shall publish ali letters from the members in good standing, vvithin the bounds of reasonable length, vvhich do not confllct with the welfare of the SNPJ and its organ; th»s rule has proved to be a wise one And although vve do not have any definite rule limiting contributions to any eertain number of words, it is obvious that sueh a rule ia being tmposed on every paper by the bulk of material sent in. Occasionalty as rhirmg the pre-annual meeting period, members requeat that vve translate important announce-ment* into Siovene or v«ce versa. This is cheerfully done as a matter of eourse and there is no reason why it should not be. • • • Prompt publicity ls always the dea»red thing. Therefore, ali letters intended for publication in Prosveta should be mailed early and correctly addresscd. Addresa aH letters intended for publication in the official organ to: Prosveta, 2057 S. Lavvndale Ave., Chicago 23. Illinois. The zone number, vvhich ls 23. should always be included in the addreas. - A number of-our writers are often guilty of the practice of attaching lodge notices to the letters addret*ed to the Seere-taiy's Office, or to some indlvldual at the Main Office. This is wrong because it invariably causes delay. It often happcns that the indlvldual to vvhom a letter intended for publication is addressed, ls out of town or on buMncss clsevvhere What then? The icsult is that ali personal ma»l must wait until he returns, and the dclay in publishing sueh matter U obvious. Wc should ali be utriving for but one objecfve: to promote tiur lodges and to help keen our official organ a vvell balanced and effective publication for the contlnuod suecess of our SNPJ. And w?th the defeat of Getmanv seeming more distant each day as resistance inereases—we stili have Japan to lick in the Pacific vvhere distances over vvater are measured in thousands of miles. The American public is getting the truth. There is nothing of the sugar-coated in Eisenhower's vvords—"this war is not over.' On the contrary, these are the vvords of a very busv man; a man vvho has learned to say much vvith little. Granting this, the home front has an extra duty to perform in the Sixth War Loan. We are after 14 billions of dollars in this War Bond campaign. We need this money to finance the vvar tha! is "not over." We need it to lick Germany and to once and for ali set Japan back to vvhere she vvill not be a threat to peace-lovir.g nations. We need it to bring victory that much closer and our bovs b3ck from their bloody tasks. Our duty on the home front is a job of support, an all-out effort, in the Sixth War Loan. There are many ways in vvhich vve can accomplish our aim. One is to buy War Bonds for cash. Another is to subseribe to the Pav-rort Savings Plan in vvhich deductions are made from pavroll. Its principles. you are sil familiar vvith; its leaders, you've met or read much aboul; its benefits. many of you have onjoyed; its activities you have partk^pated in. Through 40 years of moot»ngs the SNPJ has flourished. And ngw Jn this month of December, ali around the country the branehes of our organization are meeting in their most important meeting of the year. Each lodge vvill čast about among its member-ship for the responsible and able leaders to carry on yet another year; to make more improvementa; to add worthy accomplishmcnts; to inject new hfc and vigoi. Each of these lodges sincc thyr beginning, have soen a succession of able leaders doing their best for SNPJ. Some of them have been at it for years, never tiring nor slaeW-ing in their bffice. No government, ours m-cluded. vvould be able to stand up a heavy economic depression with-out serious repercussions at home and abroad. Yet, there are signs that after the vvar, depressions and unemploy-ment vvill follovv in its vivake. Our government, unlike England s. has not taken the responsibility to pre-vent unemployment and social m-security among its people. Even the Kilgore bili vvhich is a move in the right direetion, has not been approved. and neither has the CIO s demand nor an annual vvage. or the various other plans of recon-version of industry to civilian pro-duetion after the vvar. Our postvvar depression has been taken as a matter of fact not only by England, vvhich is very much concerned because their prosperity or lack of it ties up vvith ours. but by Josef Stalin. Recently, in an intervievv vvith Eric Johnston, of the Chamber ot Commerce, Stalin taunted Johnston about our coming depression. Johnston immediately reiterated about our surplus sav-ings, our need of consumers goods. etc., vvhich he (Johnston) thought vvould give us full productions and full employment for several years after the vvar. "I did not name the year," laconically replied Stalin And I remember. too, Hitler s dia-tribes about our "decadent bourge-ois democracy" being unable to solve our domestic problems. That is the challenge. The re-sponsibility of solving this problem lies squarely vvith the present administration. If it fails to do this. then it vvill go into defeat. and in its defeat vvould go liberal and progressive government in America That is why it is imperative for the Roosevelt Administration to take a bold and definite course in solving our domestic and interna-tional problems in such a mannrr that the fear of vvant and povi-rtv vvill be abolished from our nation.
