receive a good education. All three finished high school and all three went to college.
During the Second World War, Anton Nosan with his wife, Mary, purchased Pianecki Bakery and moved it into the Slovenian National Home building at 6413 St. Clair Avenue. That was in the fall season of 1943.
Two sons, Anthony and William went to serve their country since there was a war being waged. Sadly, their father Anton passed away about six months after they had opened the Nosan Bakery.
The youngest son, Joseph, helped his mother run the bakery. At the same time she taught him the art of baking all kinds of European specialties. Many of the well-known Slovenian baked goodies that his mother loved to bake for her own family and what the Slovenian customers and others would like to be able to purchase from Nosan’s. She was very dedicated to this undertaking and she made sure that their baking business would be suc-
cessful.
All three sons workec alongside their mother ir fulfilling the demands of more and more customers. Brother Anthony entered law school and became an outstanding attorney. His law offices were on St. Clair Ave. at East 67th St., not very far from the family’s business. Nosan Bakery. Anthony married Gertrude nee Marinch in 1956. Sadly, he passed away in 1978.
His wife, Gert, is still associated with the Nosan family business, working as a marvelous salesperson.
The third brother William worked in the bakery but due to health problems, found it necessary to change his career and become an outstanding carpenter and lives with his family in Eastlake, Ohio.
Joseph Nosan took over the family business and his mother helped him almost to retirement. She was very happy to be around the front store so that she could converse with the satisfied customers - in her native Slovenian language. (Continued on page 2)
Italians target minority Slovenians
The post- World War II rearrangement of the border between Slovenia (then a part of Yugoslavia) and Italy left a sizeable Slovene minority in Italy. As is the case with the Slovene minority in Austria, so too have the Slovenes residing in Italy been subjected to various forms of state-sponsored assimilative pressure. In fact, the pressure against the Slovenes in Italy on balance in the post- World II period has been harsher than in Austria.
Recent political reforms in Italy have had the effect of diminishing further the chance for the Slovene minority to have representation in various levels of governmental authority. This situation is examined in the statement below, which was prepared by the “Slovenska Skupnost” (Slovene Community), the only purely Slovene political party active among the Slovene minority in Italy. It is a conservative and Catholic-based movement. Members of the Slovene minority in Italy with other political views give their votes to various of the Italian political parties. This is understandable, but it also has the effect of diluting the voting power of the Slovenes as a group.
I vo Jev nikar, president of Slovenska Skupnost, sent an English-language text of the group’s statement to American Home with the request we publish it and thus inform Slovene Americans of the situation confronting the Slovene minority in Italy. Mr. Jevnikar is a particularly able younger leader of that community.

The Slovenian minority in Italy is autochonous in the areas of Trieste, Gorizia and Udine of the Autonomous Region Fruli-Venezia Giulia. In spite of the fact ihat a part of the Slovenian minority has been living within the borders of the Italian State since 1866 (Venetian Slovenia in the Udine Province and the remaining part since 1918 (with a short interval in the case of the Trieste province after World War II), its basic legal status has not been settled yet, and it does not enjoy the suitable protection of its basic rights which Italy should ensure in accordance with Article 6 of its Constitution, as well as in accordance with its international commitments.
Contrary to the above, Italy has, with respect to the
Slovene minority, in fact always followed the policy of assimilation which was particularly violent during the period of fascism (1922-1943), or else “tacitly” accepted, but in the long run equally detrimental for the Slovenian minority.
Recently, nationally biased local authorities, in particular in the Trieste municipality, where the minority has been quite numerous, are systematically abolishing even those few rights which the Slovenes gained immediately after World War II so that it is possible to speak about real “ethnic cleansing” in the cultural sense (elimination of the already rare bilingual inscriptions in the neighboring villages, prohibition of using Slovenian in their contacts with public institutions and authorities, etc.).
All this represents a blatant injustice towards the Slovenian minority in Italy and towards its individual representatives, as well as a dangerous example of destroying a peaceful and civilized coexistence in the very heart of Europe.
Global Protection Act
In view of the inertia of the Italian Government, some political parties in which the Slovenes are actively involved (or were involved), have proposed several times that the Italian Parliament should approve the Protective Act which would comprehensively regulate all issues of the Slovene minority. This is at present one of the basic claims of the Slovenians in Italy.

Class of 1931, St. Vitus School, is honoring their classmates Father Victor Cimperman and Father Victor Tome. It is their 50th anniversary of their ordination to the priesthood.

Nosan’s baked items became so well-known in the Greater Cleveland area and the demand for their goodies was so great that Joseph and his charming wife Olga Nosan decided ten years ago to open their second bakery outlet in Euclid on E. 200 St. Both stores are always crowded. During Christmas and Easter, the lines go to outside the building. Their pastry is so delicious, customers come from around the state to bring home specialty items such as potica and flancate during the holidays. The store has been featured many, many times on every television station in the city and many articles have been written about their excellent baked goods.
Today, Nosan’s Bakery con-
tinues their family tradition with the great help of all family members, especially with Joseph’s two sons, Joseph and David, along with their mother Olga, who is doing it all: advertising, selling, public relations, and even helps her husband with the baking.
The Nosans are well-known as a hard-working family. And after each major holiday, the store is closed for a few weeks well-earned and much-needed rest.
Many people were already worried about the future of Nosan’s Bakery. But to everyone’s surprise Joseph Nosan told us that both their sons David and Joseph have decided, after all, to join the family baking business. The holiday seasonal items are gingerbread houses, St. Nick’s cookies, or theme cookies, such as witches or black cats on Halloween cookies, or green marshmallow cookies on St. Patrick’s Day. Each holiday brings out the best in the imagination of Joe and Olga — much to the delight of their loyal customers who always leave the store with a smile on their face and a bag or box of goodies in their hand.
Well-known Cleveland food expert Maury Feren was ecstatic about Nosan’s quality and large variety of baked goods and has featured them numerous times on his TV show. Many city officials who pass Nosan Bakery on their way to work downtown stop in to purchase the delicious doughnuts.
We congratulate Nosan families on their 50th anniversary in the bakery business and wish them many more years of continued success.

The Euclid Pensioners’ present varied and interesting Programs to its membership, •n July, President Frank kosten happily introduced Jennie Fatur and Frank Kokal, our woman and man of the year, who entertained us w*th a delightful concert. Wooster Inn for lunch, a sign saying ‘‘Welcome, Euclid Pensioners” greeted us. To go along with this title, Bill Kazen who was seated at the head of one table was dubbed “Father Bill.” Eleanor Molley gave the appropriate blessing, and then we proceeded with lunch.
The other unusual tidbit is the fact Dorothy Lamm is now sporting a tattoo! The real thing, mind you. Next time you see Dorothy, make certain to ask her to show you her tattoo. We admire her spunk! The operetta Vienna Life was well performed. We even got to meet the cast after the show.
It was a very warm day, but we were quite comfortable. The day was leisurely-paced and well orchestrated thanks again to our capable tour guide extraordinaire, Rose Lewis, R.M.
“Faces in the Crowd” included: Fran and Millie Virant, Jo and Bill Klein, Dorothy and Bob Lamm, Zora Urbanick, Marie Plevnik, Rose Tisovec, Dorothy Repar, Pete and Eleanor Molley, Helen Bonac, and Elsie Kozar.
Future tours: Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Christmas Lites, and London, England.
My husband and I recently experienced some culture shock in that we were guests of
some Czech friends at a 70th anniversary lodge celebration in Taborville, Ohio.
The picnic grounds were meticulously landscaped, and flower beds of geraniums and petunias were everywhere.
According to the gatekeeper, there were well over a thousand people in attendance.
In the main hall, a Karlin Hall orchestra played for dancing - and dance they did. What made it so interesting was the fact that as they danced, they sang. Believe it or not, everyone knew the words to every song.
The music, by the way, is much slower paced than our popular Slovenian polkas. Perhaps, that is why so many on the dance floor were into their late 70s and early 80s.
It was a hot, humid Sunday, but their best seller was tripe soup and potato dumplings. Only dark and light beer in small plastic cups were available.
Raffles were held every hour. Numbers were being called constantly on an excellent state-of-the-art speaker system.
Strolling accordionists mingled among the crowd, and a Bohemian style brass band of about 30 musicians presented a concert which was loud and forceful. The Czech people seemed to truly enjoy that part

One couple created a bit of a sensation in that the man, as he circled the floor, kicked his heels way out and people were being tripped. The lodge officers cautioned him to refrain from dancing so vigorously, but you know what, he never did stop.
With all due respect, we still prefer our Slovenian picnics. We enjoy our style of polka music, the smoked sausage sandwiches and the more lively camaraderie prevalent at our
get-togethers.
We plan to attend a Greek 3 festival soon. Their specialty is baklava, grape leaves and lamb.
So much for ethnic culture.
Sincerely hope the recent storm didn’t cause any of you too much damage; however, even if it did - we are still luckier than those poor unfortunate souls living near the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.

Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was the 3rd President of the United States and wrote the basic draft for the Declaration of Independence (a good part of the idea came from the Slovenians and their Installation of the Dukes of Carinthia which says the leader of the people rules only with their concent).
During his term he wrote the statue on religious freedom. He also drew up ordinances forbidding slavery after 1800.
In 1800 Jefferson and Aaron Burr received equal electoral college votes for president. The House of Representatives elected Jefferson largely because Hamilton considered Burr the more dangerous man. Jefferson was the first President inaugurated in Washington, D.C.
Major events of his administration were the Louisiana Purchase, 1803 and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
He had complete faith that a people enlightened by free education could under democratic-_republican institutions govern themselves-

Death Notices Tony Kristavnik
Tony Kristavnik, 57, beloved husband of Linda (nee Sulzer), dearest father of Christine, step-father of Michael Foley and Lisa Spittler; dear step-grandfather of Maxwell; brother of Rudy and the following of Slovenia: Pavlica Trojak, Sofka Kolenc, Stanko, Jože, and the late Polde, Ivan, Danica, and Marica.
Tony was born in Celje, Slovenia. He was the owner of T.K. Construction Co. Mr. Kristavnik was a member of Slovenska Pristava and Knights of Columbus.
Friends called at The Dan Cosic Funeral Home, 28890 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Monday, August 23. Services were held at St. Vitus Church Tuesday, August 24. Burial was in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
ADOLPH A. TOMSICK
Adolph A. Tomsick was a Cleveland police detective for 25 years, most of them in the narcotics unit.
Mr. Tomsick, 73, was ill with cancer in recent months. He suffered a fatal heart attack on Tuesday, August 17 at his home in Parma.
He was born in Cleveland and attended East High School.
He served four years in the Army during World War II. He spent two of those years in India as a military policeman. He was a second lieutenant.
Mr. Tomsick joined the Cleveland Police Department after the war. He moved from Hough to Parma in 1958. Mr. Tomsick belonged to the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association.
He retired in 1972, then worked for the Motor Express Trucking Co. for nine years.

He was active with the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Tomsick is survived by his wife, Lucille, to whom he was married 52 years. He is also survived by sons Thomas of Cincinnati and William of Cleveland; daughters, Kathlynn Stevens of Euclid and Patricia Simpson of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Tomsick was also the brother of Mary Juricic (IL), Rose Weiss (CA), Josephine Smith, Florence Pirnat, Clarence (Ken), and the following deceased: Angela Labuda and John.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1533 E. 17th St.
Arrangements were handled by the Zak Funeral Home of Cleveland.
JENNIE HOLMES
Jennie Holmes (nee Straus), 80, a resident of Euclid for 25 years formerly of Cleveland, died in Deaconess Hospital, on Tuesday, August 24.
Jennie was retired from General Electric Nela Park where she was employed as a lamp assembler for 35 years.
She was a member of Catholic Order of Foresters Court 1120.
Jennie was the widow of Robert; the mother of Geraldine Petras of Seven Hills; grandmother of four, great-grandmother of four; and sister of 15, all deceased.
Friends may call at Zele Funeral Home, 452 E. 152 St. Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where services will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. and at St. William church at 9:30. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery.

Louis Stanley Prhne, 81 of Englewood, Florida, died July 23.
He was born April 17, 1912 in Cleveland and came to Englewood nine years ago from Maple Heights, Ohio. He was a trucker for Cleveland Pneumatic Tool in Cleveland for 25 years. He was a member and usher at St.

John M. Vrataric, 78, a lifetime resident of Cleveland, died Wednesday, August 18 in Lutheran Medical Center.
John was the owner of Shiloh Metal Products, 4400 Superior Ave., where he manufactured metal shelving from 1949 until his retirement in 1979.
He was an usher at St. John Cathedral at the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass for 15 years. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Corp. of Engineers.
John was the husband of Florence (nee Svete), his wife of 56 years; the brother of Frances Les and Nick (both of California); uncle and great-uncle; and brother-in-law of Mark Les (dec.), Lillian Pertekel and Evelyn Svete. Friends called at Zele Funeral Home, 452 E. 152 St. Friday where services were Saturday, August 21 in St. John Cathedral. Burial in All Souls Cemetery.
JOHN J. CONGIN John J. Congin, 77, a Cleveland resident, died in Lake Hospital West on Saturday, August 14.
He was retired from General Electric where he was employed as a wire weaver.
John was the beloved husband of Angela (nee Pecon) (formerly Bencina); father of Frank, Matilda Novak and William; grandfather of 6; great-grandfather of 2; brother of Anthony, Angelina (dec.), Frank, Angelo, Teressa Garubo, Salvador, Sam (dec.), James and Carl (dec.).
Funeral Mass was at Holy Redeemer Church Wednesday, August 18. Burial was in All Souls Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Zele Funeral Home, 452 E. 152 St.

who was called to his eternal reward after a short illness on July 9, 1993. He was born in Cleveland on May 25, 1923. Our dear one was a member of the Baraga Court No. 1317 Catholic Order of Foresters where he held the office of Chief Ranger for some 20 years; Blaskovic Post VFW No. 5257 and Club Ljubljana.
Funeral services were held on July 12, 1993 from the Zak Funeral Home, St. Clair Avenue, with a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Mary’s Church, Holmes Avenue and laid to rest in All Souls Cemetery. We are especially grateful to Rev. Joseph Božnar for celebrating the funeral Mass. We are also grateful to Rev. Victor Tome and Rev. John Kumse for assisting the celebrant. Many thanks to Rev. Joseph Božnar for his beautiful homily, his prayers at the funeral home, and his graveside prayers at the cemetery.
Deep appreciation is extended to everyone for their beautiful floral pieces, Mass offerings, their visitations, prayers, and expression of sympathy. May God bless the members of the organizations he belonged to, who paid final homage to our loved one. From the depths of our hearts we thank our friends who attended the church services, and accompanied our dear Rudy to his final resting place. We are grateful to the pallbearers: Nick Sudar, Thomas Persin, Howard Eckert, Marty Sudar, Jeff Eckert, Kenneth Vogrig, Bill Bennett, and Dick Hopkins, who carried the coffin.

Friends in Yokohama invited me to stay with them a few days so I had a tour of the Hakone region by car on often over-crowded roads. Metropolitan Tokyo is listed (in the World Alamanac) as the largest metropolitan area in the world at 27,000,000. Yokohama, which is next door to Tokyo, must then be the largest suburb in the world at over 3,000,000.
Sleeping on the Japanese futon, the thick bedroll laid on the floor at night, is very comfortable, although it can be a bit warm in hot weather. My hosts felt it necessary to apologize because “our homes are so small compared to American homes.” It was true that because of limited land — the land cost for a home is several times the cost of the structure and lot sizes are small — the homes were half the size of ours. But the construction, decoration and furnishing of the three middle class homes I was in, compared favorably with ours.
Strangely enough, the items that struck me as characterizing the great improvement in Japanese homes in the last 30 years were the toilets. When I First came to Japan in the late 1950s, some houses still had indoor outhouses, no cars, no air conditioning and not even television anywhere. All that has reversed itself now.
The bathrooms, in fact, were all furnished with attractive colored porcelain fixtures and the toilets had control panels.

To the delight of about 250 attendees, the Slovenian singing and dancing group from Carinthia (Austria) amused, entertained and wowed Western Pennsylvanians on Sunday, August 8th. At its only performance in the Pittsburgh area Peca performed with full vigor and promise despite almost no sleep from the night before when they performed at the Slovenska Pristava grounds in Harpersfield, Ohio.
The event, sponsored by Violeta Ruparcich’s “Songs and Melodies of Beautiful Slovenia’’ radio program, took place at the new SNPJ Lodge 106 Hall in Imperial, Pa. on the far west side of Pittsburgh, near the brand new Pittsburgh International Airport.
The locally renowned Pitts-
burgh Friday Niters tam-buritzen ensemble warmed up a responsive audience, climaxing with a medley of old Slovenian folk songs including “Barčica po morju plava.” Peca followed with 1-1/2 hours of tight harmonies and melodic acapello renditions of new and old selectons “Rožmarin - spomin,” and “Ko fantje na vasi šli.” They ended wtih some “Ameriške” tunes including the gospel songs Good News and Amen as well as the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann.”
The short and long of it was the crowd didn’t want to go home and so enjoyed the domača zabava afterwards and dancing to the sound of the Fred Banhoff Orchestra until the late hours.
The sponsors thank all those who made this visit of pristine Slovenian culture and song possible to Western Pa.
Godec miffed at subway passenger
The following article appeared in the Wednesday, August 18 issue of the New York Times:
Dear Diary:
It was around 7 A.M. and the Lexington Avenue subway was so densely packed that I wasn’t even able to read my newspaper. Suddenly, a man next to me shouted, “You stepped on my toes!”
A second fellow replied: “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t see. I’m sorry.” The more he apologized, the more the first man continued with his vitriolics. Finally, the accused man offered, “Sir, if it would help you, why don’t you step on my toes?”
The first man made more room around himself by pushing bystanders away with his elbows. He lifted his foot, carefully aimed and declared, “And I will,” stepping fiercely on the gentleman’s toes.
For a few days after this episode, I took a cab to work.

3 medium-sized tomatoes (about 1 pound)
3 tablespoons olive or salad oil
2 tablespoons balsamic or red wine vinegar 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
About 15 minutes before serving or up to 1 hour ahead:
1.	Slice tomatoes into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Arrange on platter.

quite some time, which is equally true of the Italian minority in Slovenia, having broadcasts in Italian for about 11 hours a day.
Guarantee of representation in the elected bodies At present, a particularly burning problem of the Slovenian minority in Italy is its direct representation in the elected bodies. In Italy, electoral reforms have been underway introducing the majority electoral system instead of the present proportional one or at least setting various pre-conditions for the elections of candidates which renders it difficult or even impossible for the Slovene minority to elect its own representatives, considering the fact that its population is not concentrated in one territorial area.
The above fact was evident on 6 June 1993 at the elections for the revival of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Regional Council. At these elections the number of the elected advisers of Slovene nationality was radically reduced. The Slovenska skupnost-Unione Slovenia (Slovene Community), i.e. the only Slovene political party in Italy, for the first time in the post-war history, did not succeed in electing its representative into the said legislative body although the number of its votes was increased.
The same happened at the elections for the revival of the Trieste and Gorizia Provincial Council held in two rounds on 6 and 20 June 1993. The Slovenian minority faces and will face similar problems also at the Parliamentary elections, for which new rules have been laid down at the Senate and in the Chamber of Deputies. The exclusion of the Slovenes from the elected bodies means in fact a considerable deterioration of the position of the minority, ruling out the possibility of a democratic dialogue in various institutions.
The relevant central and local Italian authorities have been acquainted with this problem several times also by means of a public petition which was submitted to the President of Senate Mr. Giovanni Spadolini and to the President of the Chamber of Deputies Mr. Giogio Napolitano by the representatives of the Slovenska skupnost-Union Slovenia on 1 June 1993.

It has been stressed in the petition and in other similar initiatives that the electoral system which was in force so far enabled the Slovene minority to elect, in one way or the other, its representatives in the central and local elected bodies. It is therefore illogical that this right should be denied at the very moment when Italy is about to ensure new and more appropriate instruments of direct democracy.
Therefore, the Slovenians in Italy demand the introduction of a minimum number of guaranteed seats to the Slovene minority in the elected bodies, the right which has also been guaranteed to the Italian and Hungarian minorities in Slovenia, or the introduction of other protective mechanisms provided for by other states in their electoral legislations to the benefit of national minorities. In accordance with the Slovene Constitution, the Italian and Hungarian minorities have guaranteed seats in the elected bodies, both at local level and in the Parliament, regardless of their numerical strength and of the number of votes.
Negotiatons between Italy and Slovenia
The issue of the Slovene minority is one of the items which are on the agenda of negotiations between the Republic of Italy and the Republic of Slovenia on the so-called updating of Osimo Agreements (Trattati di Osimo) of 1975, and other bilateral agreements concluded between Italy and the former Yugoslavia. It has to
be considered that these agreements have also referred to the protection and respect for the Italian minority in Slovenia and Croatia and for the Slovenian minority in Italy.
It would be suitable and fair if Italy and Slovenia recognized the specific identity of both minorities in the course of the above negotiations or at least take into consideration the remarks by their representatives. The supreme Slovenian authorities have already done this, the Italian Government, however, has not considered it necessary to receive, besides the representatives of the Italian minority, also the representatives of the Slovene one despite its explicit request. This gives cause for grave concern also due to the fact that the first negotiations on this topic between Italy and Slovenia in January 1992 did not bring any positive results precisely because of the rigid position of the Italian authorities which did not want to commit themselves with
respect to the unsettled and burning issues of the Slovene minority, but have on the other hand made high demands in favor of the Italian minority.

The Ar, aal Holmes Avenue Pensioners Picnic on Wednesday, July 14 turned out to be a great time for all the ones who attended. The rain held off and the food, music and refreshments were enjoyed by all.
The band did a great job and we hated to see them stop playing polkas.
Parking guys did a great job.
Matt Zabukovec gives all the credit to the volunteers who manned the stands and worked hard at it. Be that as it may we all know who the kingpin of the affair was. (Editor’s note: let the rest of us in on the secret)
The bartenders kept everyone from getting thirsty and sold everything except the sink.
The ticket sellers raked in the money. Great job!
Chef Dom with assistance of Val and other teammates sure made some wonderful sandwiches, etc.

As the Councilman for the St. Vitus Church area, it is a distinct pleasure to congratulate all of you. Father Joseph Boznar and the church leadership on the 100th anniversary of the parish.
I wish to express my deep appreciation and admiration to the church and all Slovenian Americans for the work and commitment along with those of Ameriška Domovina and the Slovenian Home which have contributed so much to the stability of the neighborhood.
The St. Vitus School, the meal program, and the many social and spiritual outreaches of the church supplies so many needs which government is often unable to fulfill. Most importantly, the church stands as a beacon of the Christian ethic and commandment of Christ to love and serve one another.
As I have campaigned throughout the St. Vitus area,
I have met so many warm and friendly residents of Slovenian descent. You have accepted me and have worked with me in solving some of our neighborhood problems. In this regard, I was saddened at the
recent assault near Glass Avenue. I have already coordinated with the Sixth District police and detectives to make sure the area has proper police visibility and protection. I will continue to demand this service. I am a Prosser Avenue resident myself and want to live in a safe community.
Together we can make progress in our neighborhood. Once again, congratulations to St. Vitus, its parishioners and leadership, and to Father Boznar for your dedication. Best wishes also as you celebrate your 100th anniversary.

Before the great war he lived on E. 63 St. north of St. Clair His name was Louis Stavanja of Slovenian parents and his ham call was W8LXS. He has a brother, Herman, living in New Mexico or Arizona. They kept a schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. on 20 meters, but I have never heard them.
After the war Lou changed his name, married, and joined the communications department of Eastern Airlines in Atlanta. He is a retired widower.

It started about two years ago as a back-yard prayer group; now it’s a monthly spiritual Super Bowl.
In the beginning, a reclusive homemaker named Nancy Fowler invited the world to her house in the countryside near Conyers (Ga.) to hear messages she said she was receiving directly from the Virgin Mary.
Church officials expressed “grave doubts;” people came by the thousands.
Government officials tightened the regulatory squeeze; people came by the tens of thousands.
They came in blizzards, in thunderstorms, in withering heat. On the 13th of every month, Apparition Day, scores of tour buses disgorge pilgrims onto a farm field near Mrs. Fowler’s home. Conyers area motels are booked solid on the 13th for the next two years.
Has a sector of granite outcroppings and a few homes in rural Rockdale County become the next Fatima? Who are the people who have made it happen, and why do they dedicate their lives to the apparition event?
The two people most responsible for the apparition phenomenon are Mrs. Fowler and Robert J. Hughes, a Virginia businessman whose financial support — mainly the purchase of about 130 acres of land around Mrs. Fowler’s home — has provided the room for the event’s growth.
He insists his involvement is strictly an act of faith and that no one connected with the event profits financially from it.
The woman whose visions are the driving force of the phenomenon, Mrs. Fowler, has remained, to the public at least, something of an apparition herself. She declined to be interviewed.
She is a 45-year-old former nurse and wife of a retired Air Force officer. Since the mid-1980s, she claims to have had increasingly frequent apparitions of, and dialogues with, the Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ and sometimes Satan.
And on the 13th of every month, Mrs. Fowler says, the Virgin Mary delivers, through her, a special message for America. Mostly, the messages are similar to those preached in just about every church: Turn away from sin and towards God.
For the first few months, Mrs. Fowler held the monthly gatherings at her home. But the people flooded her back yard, their cars clogged roads, some disabled pilgrims tried to navigate the highways in their wheelchairs. Government authorities, alarmed at the prospect for serious accidents, threatened to take action to stop the gatherings.
...The size of the crowds has grown considerably in the early months of 1993. Mr. Hughes said contributions have gone up also, along with the organizing costs. He said he did not have a breakdown of income and costs for recent months.
Based on an estimate of $200 a day for each of the 40 off-duty police officers hired for security duty, the security costs would be about $8,000 a month. At a recent apparition gathering, a speaker for the group said the costs of leasing portable toilets for the large crowds is about $40,000 a month.
June 13, 1993 As tens of thousands of pilgrims gather today at a small farm near Conyers to hear Nancy Fowler relay the latest messages she says she receives from the Virgin Mary, for the first time conflicting views are emerging publicly over her claim.
Three former associates of Mrs. Fowler paint a picture of her that is in sharp contrast to the image of the pious visionary who speaks to the multitudes from the farmhouse porch. Once the crowds leave, these former associates say, the 45-year-old Mrs. Fowler is subject to mood swings ranging from petulance to anger to depression.
Also, they said, Mrs. Fowler has seemed at times to be obsessed with the presence of demons; and she often has expressed a desire to be a nun, even though she is married.
...All three former associates — sought out by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution — were hesitant about discussing the inner workings of a ministry they were part of and the private life of a woman whom so many people have placed their faith:
• Ann Wall, who was Mrs. Fowler’s personal secretary for four months in late 1991, said Mrs. Fowler was subject to erratic mood swings, ranging from periods of depression when she would lock herself in the basement and cry for hours, to tantrums often directed at her family. Also Ms. Wall said, sometimes when a person had done something to anger her, Mrs. Fowler would threaten to call
down angels to destroy them
•	Martha Fernandez Sardina, a novice in an Ohio convent who agreed to assis with Mrs. Fowler’s ministry served as a Spanish translate! and traveling companion to Mrs. Fowler for about thre months in 1991. Obrambni minister Janez Janša v središču Pozornosti — Afera v zvezi z orožjem otegne biti huda preizkušnja za vlado — Vlada o zadevi na današnji seji ni razpravljala — Vladna kriza možna jeseni

Afera, ki je nastala z odkritjem okrog UO ton orožja, tihotapljenega v Slovenijo septembra in oktobra lani, odkritega pa šele Z1, JuHja letos na mariborskem letališču, je enieljito pretresla slovensko politično sceno m utegne povzročiti tudi vladno krizo. V sre-™scu pozornosti je obrambni minister Janez Janša, ki je afero odkril in je v zadnjem mesecu skoro z vsakim dnevom kritičnejši do sk'K Van-ia all> kot trdi, nedelovanja maribor-m pravosodnih preiskovalnih organov, retekli teden so se na Janševe močne kritike pozvali mariborski sodniki in ga besedno oblili vmešavanja v neodvisnost sodstva.

Najnovejša anke-e Javnega mnenja v Sloveniji pa potrjujejo, a je Janša za Milanom Kučanom najbolj Pozitivno ocenjena osebnost med vodilnimi ovenskimi politiki. Od Janeza Drnovška finega v zadnjih tednih ni bilo glede afere o [ožju in posebno še o sporu Kozinc-Janša J Pomembnega slišati.

O nastali situaciji je komentiral v Slovencu preteklo soboto Jadran Vatovec: »Nobeden od najuglednejših strankarskih veljakov treh podpisnic (LDS, SKD in SDSS) koalicijskega sporazuma o delovanju sedanje vlade v teh dneh ni pripravljen javno priznati, da se v njegovi stranki pripravljajo na jesensko ‘presenečenje’, morebitno vladno krizo in iskanje novih koalicijskih rešitev. Na podlagi zadnjih dogodkov je mogoče kljub temu upravičeno sklepati, da poletni boji (pogojno jih lahko tako imenujemo) med ministroma niso zgolj posledica ‘zanemarljivo različnih mnenj’ v vladi.«
Vatovec zaključuje svoj komentar z mnenjem, da »...lahko sedanja ‘Drnovškova’ vlada preživi letošnjo jesen (pri tem sploh ni pomembno, da ‘optimisti’ v njenih vrstah o tem ne dvomijo) le v dveh primerih: če je grožnja o odstopu pravosodnega ministra res samo priprava na ‘elegantni umik s spodmikajočega se ministrskega stolčka’ (temu bo verjetno sledila še kakšna sprememba, na primer pri tako imenovanih gospodarskih resorjih) ali če bo ‘koalicijskemu partnerju’ uspelo prepričati Janeza Janšo, naj tudi on glasuje za zelo zelo mlačno stališče o razmerju med izvršilno in pravosodno oblastjo. Le tisti, ki poznajo Janšev odgovor na tovrsten predlog, pa tudi zanesljivo vedo, koliko se s pripravami na novo koalicijo mudi.«

Danes je bila v Ljubljani seja vlade, na kateri naj bi se bila jasno opredelila do spora Kozinc-Janša. Tega ni storila, ker se je ukvarjala z možnimi vladnimi ukrepi za omilitev posledic katastrofalne suše, ki je Slovenijo letos prizadela. Preložili so razpravo o zadevi Janša-Kozinc na eno prihodnjih vladnih sej. V telefonskem pogovoru z novinarko Slovenca Marjeto Šimunič danes zjutraj, je rekla, da bo zadeva morda obravnavana na naslednji seji vlade, ki bi pa naj bila prihodnji četrtek, torej 2. septembra.
Slovensko gospodarstvo še nazaduje
Pretekli teden je slovenska centralna banka objavila podatke, ki kažejo, da je bil bruto domači proizvod (BDP) lani po tržnih cenah 12,24 milijarde dolarjev. Glede na leto 1991 je bil torej za 438 milijonov dolarjev manjši. Primerjava z letom 1990 je razlika veliko izdatnejša, saj je bil BDP lani v primerjavi z 1990 manjši kar za nekaj več kot pet milijard dolarjev.
Glede na prebivalca je bil slovenski BDP lani 6.133 dolarjev, kar je pa 201 dolar manjvkot v 1991, celih 2.500 dolarjev pa manjši od leta 1990. V prvem četrtletju letos se je znatno upočasnila rast brezposelnosti v Sloveniji, vendar kažejo podatki za drugo četrtletje zopetno hitrejšo rast. Na drugi, pozitivnejši strani pa velja poudariti, da je inflacijska stopnja na sorazmerno nizki ravni, daleč boljša torej kakor v sosednji Hrvaški,' da o skovanki »Zvezni republiki Jugoslaviji« niti ne govorimo.
Ljubljana dobila velik trgovski center
Dne 16. avgusta so v Ljubljani odprli novo trgovsko-prodajno središče in sicer na Smartinski cesti. Središče (nekako podobno ameriškemu »mallu«) ima skoro 18 tisoč kvadratnih metrov pokrite površine in še 800 parkirnih mest. V središču je 16 prodajaln.

O balincarskem tekmovanju—
Preteklo nedeljo so se pomerili Pristavski balincarji in ugotovili, kdo je najboljši. Zbralo se je veliko ljubiteljev tega športa. Tekmovanje je potekalo brez zastojev. Med moškimi sta bila najboljša Filip Oreh in Feliks Breznikar. Drugo mesto sta si priborila Lojze Bajc in Jože Bojc. Revolucionarno obdobje še traja
Revolucionarno obdobje, ki je se pričelo z razpadom komunističnih režimov v vzhodni Evropi in v Sovjetski zvezi, je prej komaj na začektu svojega poteka kakor pri kraju. Zgodovinske primerjave so vedno nevarne, vendar zdi se bolj in bolj, da to, kar danes doživljamo v državah bivšega evropskega komunističnega sveta, sledi teoriji o poteku pravih revolucij. Po tej teoriji so prave revolucije tiste, ki prinesejo veliko več kot navadno spremembo enega vladarja z drugim. Prave revolucije spreminjajo temeljito ne samo vladarje, marveč tudi samo družbeno ureditev. Gre za temeljite spremembe političnega, gospodarskega, družbenega, tudi verskega značaja. Seveda ima vsaka revolucija svoje posebne značilnosti, vsaka pa gre, kot kaže, skozi približno iste faze, vsaka teh pa lahko traja tudi več let.
Pred očmi imamo v prvi vrsti državo Rusijo, ki je nastala po razpadu Sovjetske zveze. Navidezno ima ta nova država demokratično ureditev, dejansko pa je daleč od tega. Izginila je prejšnja komunistična ideologija, ki se ne bo vrnila. Številčno sorazmerno majhne demonstracije v Moskvi in drugih mestih privržencev povrnitve prejšnjega režima so dokaz, kako dokončno diskreditiran je ta prejšnji režim. V glavnem gre za starčke in starke, ki v obupu nosijo slike Lenina, nekateri celo Stalina, tu in tam je zraven le nekaj mlajših ljudi. Iz te moke ni in tudi v bodoče ne bo nikoli nič.
Nevarnost v zvezi z Rusijo (in tudi nekaterimi drugimi državami bivšega komunističnega sveta) prihaja iz drugega zornega kota, iz nekakšnega navidezno desničarskega, dejansko šovinističnega iskanja »rešitelja«. Če gre tu za kakšno ideologijo, bi ta bila daleč prej fašistoidna kakor komunistična. Iz francoske revolucije bi domnevnega »rešitelja« lahko imenovali novega Napoleona, vendar zdi se, v ruskem primeru, da je prej pričakati koga, ki bi bil bolj podoben kakšnemu Mussoliniju ali Hitlerju. Tisti, ki opazujejo dogajanja v Rusiji, omenjajo zdaj tega zdaj onega možnega kandidata za takšno vlogo, vendar je za to še prezgodaj. Kar je pričakovati, je to, da se bodo razmere na ozemlju današnje Rusije še slabšale in da bo rasla anarhija ter pripravljala teren za poskus zasuka v drugo smer: k »redu«. Šele takrat bo res »počilo« v Rusiji. In kar velja za Rusijo, drži več ali manj za druge države, ki so postale prvič ali zopet neodvisne.
Pri tem razvoju, smo prepričani, bo igrala Slovenija veliko pozitivnejšo vlogo kakor marsikatera druga država. Ni pa izvzeta od bistvenega revolucio-
Iz življenja njujorških Slovencev
Letošnja poletna vročina s svojo soparico je na Njujor-škem nekaj izrednega. To nam govore tudi vremenarji. Današnja vročina, pravijo, bo nad normalno. Če k temu dodamo še soparico, potem veste, kakšno je ozračje v mestu. To se odraža močno v človekovi dejavnosti. Vsakdo postori le to, kar mora.
Pride nedelja. Gospodov dan. Ukazuje nam izvršiti našo versko dolžnost. Ker imamo njujorški Slovenci zaenkrat še svojo lastno narodno faro sv. Cirila, bi morali to versko dolžnost opraviti v njej. To pa za mnoge naše ljudi ni lahka stvar. Cerkev je v starem delu New Yorka, mnogi farani pa živijo daleč od nje. Če k temu dodamo v poletnih dneh še huda vročina s soparo,

Na praznik Marijinega Vnebovzetja, 15. avgusta, je spet ena sestra naredila zaobljube. Doma je iz Planice pri Sevnici in njeno ime je sedaj s. Karmen. Zanimivo, da gospod župnik na Planici vsak ponedeljek mašuje za duhovne in redovne poklice. Gospod ga je uslišal. Tudi mi moramo moliti. Poklic je dar božji in božja posebna milost in zato je treba moliti.
Graditev dvigala se je morala začasno ustaviti, ker delavci hočejo denar na roke, tega pa ni. Daj Bog, da bi se še kaj dobrotnikov oglasilo.

razumemo, da vse to vpliva na manjšo udeležbo pri nedeljskih mašah pri sv. Cirilu.
Posledice so bile razvidne na prvih dveh avgustovskih nedeljah. Za prvo je mladi Karl Klesin poskušal s telefonskim vabilom spraviti naše farane na popoldanski piknik v naravi ob cerkvi sv. Križa v Fair-fieldu. Tod je bila spet maša, ki sta jo darovala naš župnik p. Krizolog in tamkajšnji kaplan č.g. Milan. Njujorčanov nas je bilo pri tej maši nekaj več kot pri deseti na Osmi.
Vendar Karlijeva dobra misel ni imela uspeha. Zakaj, ne vem. Vendar mladi, ki jih je sicer bilo iz obeh strani, ter obiskovalki iz Ljubljane pri p. Krizologu, Mara in Alenka, so prišli do svojega ob igranju odbojke. Mi, starejši, ob mizah v senci, smo imeli tudi svoje s prijetnim razgovorom z našim župnikom. Med nami je bila tudi mati č.g. Milana, ki je prišla k njemu na obisk iz Slovenskega.
Dne 11. avgusta, sreda, smo imeli v gosteh pri Sv. Cirilu koroške rojake iz Globasnice, mešani pevski zbor Peca s folklorno skupino. Med nas so prišli ob koncu svoje uspešne turneje, obiska slovenskih narodnih srenj v ZDA in Toronta. Pri nas so nastopili samo pevci. Vendar dopoldne so v avli Združenih narodov nastopali tako pevci kot plesalci. Pokrovitelja njihovega njujor-skega obiska sta bila slovenski konzulat v New Yorku in Avstrijski kulturni inštitut.
Gotovanje je bilo nekaj izrednega za našo skupnost. Škoda je bila velika za nas v tem, da je obisk prišel sredi tedna, v sredo. Pa še zgodnja ura večera, celo pozno popoldanska. Obisk se je namreč začel z mašo ob petih popoldne. Za ljudi, ki še delajo, je bila ura precej neprimerna. Dobro le, da so se gostje nekje v mestu zakasnili. Tako se nas je le nekaj nabralo, ko se je njihov avtobus ustavil v bližini cerkve.
Pevci so šli na kor. K oltarju je pristopil župnik iz Globasni-
ce, č.g. Peter, in imel mašo ob somaševanju p. Krizologa in č.g. Alojzija Jenka. Homilijo je imel p. Krizolog, oltarna strežnika pa sta bila Zupanova fanta v narodnih nošah.
Po maši so pevci prišli s kora in se razvrstili v lepo skupino, vseh skupaj 38, pred oltarjem. Dvoje stopnic tu jim je dalo možnost lepe razporeditve. Po prvi pesmi so bili nagovori od predstavnika zbora Bernarda Sadovnika, predstavnika organizacije katoliških kulturnih društev dr. Janko Zerzer, in p. Krizolog. Nato je bil prvi del koncerta, vseh skupaj sedem pesmi.
Med premorom so nas pozdravili slovenski konzul v New Yorku Matjaž Kovačič, dr. Peter Vencelj, zadolžen v slovenski vladi za stike s Slovenci v svetu, in avstrijski konzul Thomas Hajnoczi. Za mene osebno je bil najpomembnejši navdušujoč nagovor dr. Venclja. Govoril je o zvestobi narodni kulturi in koreninam. Za oboje je pa, po mojem, najvažnejše ohranjevanje slovenske materine besede. Prepevanje slovenskih pesmi je eden od pripomočkov pri tem pomembnem narodnem delu. Živa beseda in narodna zavest sta v intimni medsebojni povezavi.
Sledil je drugi del koncerta. Med njimi dve ameriški. Ti sta bili pevsko tehnično dobro izvajani. Vendar bi bili bolj učinkoviti na barvni televiziji kot v cerkvi, ki je prvenstveno Bogu posvečen prostor.
Koncert gostov iz slovenske Koroške mi je bolj prepričal o tem, da je bil za koroške rojake pomemben ne samo knežji kamen na Gosposvetskem polju, ampak tudi obstoj takih društev, kot je Peca iz Globasnice, ki nam pomaga ohranjati slovenski rod živ. Vsi, ki so nam prepevali 11. avgusta, naši koroški rojaki, so naši najboljši pričevalci in zgledov-niki, kako se narod ohranja tudi v težkih okoliščinah.
V dvorani je po koncertu Marija Zupan za vse pripravila lepo gostijo. Slovenski konzulat v New Yorku je to omogo* čilo in konzul g. Kovačič je bil med nami prav do konca.
Točaj na gostiji je bil Stefan, ki je hrvaškega rodu in je med nami našel dom. Bil je pi' lot jugoslovanskega bojnega letalstva. Zdaj je brezdomec, ker ga ne sprejme ne Hrvaška, ne Srbija in tudi Slovenija ne, čeprav je njegova žena Slovenka iz Ljubljane. Milan Kučan, ko je bil Štefan v vojni akademiji, je bil njegov profesor marksistične teorije. In zdaj?-Milan Kučan, predsednik Re' publike Slovenije. Rojaki! Priporočaj*6 Ameriško Domovino svojim slovenskim ^ prijateljem in znancem-
narnega procesa. Doslej je ta potekal zelo počasi, brez socialnih izgredov, brez uničenja demokratičnega sistema, ki je bil uveden (čeprav še danes daleč ne v celoti realiziran) pred tremi leti. Poleg zelo počasnega gospodarskega prestrukturiranja prevladuje v Sloveniji danes precejšen politični kaos, ki se izraža v strankarskem medsebojnem »pretepanju«, pri posameznikih pa v nenehnih poskusih diskvalificiranja izstopajočih osebnosti. Trenutno je tarča napadov obrambni minister Janša, so že bili, v bodoče pa bodo na vrsti domala vsi. V zadnjem tednu, dveh je precej besedičenja o novi vladni krizi, celo o novi vladni koaliciji, do katere naj bi prišlo jeseni in v kateri naj bi bile združene predvsem desničarske stranke z nekaterimi sredinskimi vred.
Naj bo tako ali drugače, tudi najnovejši kar resni pretresi slovenske politične scene ne predstavljajo nobene nevarnosti za pojav nekakšne nove »diktature«. Ob vseh pretresih, političnih in gospodarskih, smemo računati na to, da bo Slovenija dolgoročno gledano ena najbolj uspešnih, če že ne najuspešnejša od vseh držav, ki danes s takšno muko izidejo iz nekdanjega komunističnega močvirja.

^^ACUSE, N.Y. - Kot ustanovitelj in prvi dirigent pevskega zbora Korotan v ZDA, si štejem v prijetno dolžnost in čast, da napišem nekaj pripomb k zelo uspešnemu nastopu mešanega zbora PECA iz Globasnice na Koroškem v Slovenskem narodnem domu na St. Clair Ave. v Clevelandu, Ohio, v četrtek, 5. avgusta 1993. V teh pripombah se moram omejiti na nastop pevskega zbora v upanju, da o folk-°rni skupini in o njenem uspehu spregovori kdo drugi, ki je za to bolj kvalificiran kot podpisani. Naj le omenim, da je tudi plesna skupina veliko doprinesla k temu tako lepemu večeru slovenske pesmi in folklore.
Ves večer je z izbranimi besedami vodil inž. g. Jože Liko-zar in predstavil vrsto posameznikov, ki so pozdravili poslu-alstvo in nastopajoče: č.g. °že Božnar, žunik pri sv. 'du; g. Bernard Sadovnik, Podpredsednik zbora Peca; dr. anko Zerzer, predsednik Slovenske kulturne zveze na Koškem; in dr. Peter Vencelj, ržavni sekretar za Slovence P° svetu.
Posamezne dele pevskega in olklornega programa sta povezovala en član zbora v slovenščini in visokošolka iz Glo-asnice, zdaj na študiju v v angleščini (žal imena °heh nista bila objavljeni na frogramu). Poleg povezave sta na kratko tudi orisala na-jtanek, delo, in uspehe zbora 9 Slovenske kulturne zveze v
reteklih časih in v sodobnosti.

roškem in v Sloveniji. Glasovno je zbor lepo uravnovešen tako med posameznimi glasovnimi skupinami kot dinamičnimi zmogljivostmi. Ta karakteristika menda ni bila neopazna prav nikomur v dvorani, kar lahko sklepam iz mnogih pripomb po koncertu. Pevke in pevci so lahko ponosni, da sta njih trud in prizadevanja dosegla tako lepo dovršenost zborovskega petja. Kljub temu, da vsi člani in članice zbora, iz enega ali drugega razloga, niso sodelovali na obisku v ZDA in Kanadi, je bila zasedba posameznih glasovnih enot v lepem ravnovesju druga z drugo. Uglajenost glasovnih skupin je vsekakor ena od mnogih odlik tega zbora.
Posebnost mešanega zbora Peca je koroška narodna pesem. V pristnem, domačem dialektu in zelo lepi izgovarjavi poslušalec dobi vtis, da mora biti ta beseda prirojena in ne more biti priučena. Naj omenim le nekatere iz te skupine: Nmav čriezjizaro (nar., S. Mihelič), Moj puabč rajža z Gra-ca v Vien (nar., Z. Svikaršič), in Pojdam u Rute (nar., L. Kramolc); to so primeri kako lepo zveni pesem v domačem narečju. Vsekakor to potrdi, kako močno se pevke in pevci zbora Peca zavedajo svojega poslanstva.
V drugo skupino pesmi na sporedu bi dal zborovska dela, kjer so skladatelji uporabili besedila Franca Ledra Lesičja-ka in Milke Hartmannove. Luka Kramolc je tako lepo dojel bistvo Lesičjakovih misli, da sta obe njegovi priredbi, Nedeljski jagri in Pesem od rojstva prav blizu koroški narodni pesmi, kar je potrdila tudi izvedba na Clevelandskem koncertu. O Podjuna, skladatelja Radovana Gobca in koroške pesnice Milke Hartmannove, že večkrat izvajana na koncertih v Clevelandu, pa je dobila v izvedbi podjunske pevske skupine še prav poseben značaj.
V tretjo skupino vključimo dve stvaritvi koroškega skladatelja Janeza Petjaka, ki je dolga leta vodil za zbor in še vedno sodeluje kot pevec. Zasluga zbora in dirigenta je, da je tudi naše poslušalstvo dobilo priliko slišati dve Petjakovi stvaritvi in sicer priredbo narodne Katrca in, na besedilo M. Hartmannove, občutno podano Beseda materina. Naj še omenim, da obstoja lepa izdaja dvanajstih Petjakovih zborovskih skladb z naslovom Podjunske viže, ki vsebujejo,
kot je rečeno med pripombami, »vse sorte pesmi«.
Pevski zbor Peca je na koncertu tudi dokazal, da mu druga področja niso tuja. Zahtevnost priredbe Lojzeta Lebiča, narodne Luba Vigred, je prepričala o zborovski zmožnosti skozi bolj komplicirane harmonske postopke. V izvedbah skladb Amen (spir., Lubov) in Barbara Ann (Beach Boys, Stanko Polzer), obe izvedeni nastopajočim v ponos, pa je bilo jasno, kako daleč segajo dosežki današnjih možnosti v izmenjavi med raznimi kulturami.
Zbor se ponaša tudi z izvrstnimi, če lahko rečem, zborovskimi solisti. Po barvi, tonu, izvajanju, in dikciji so prepričali, da so del zbora, pa vendar s posebno in zelo odgovorno nalogo. Njihov doprinos k uspehu koncerta je vse pohvale vreden. Tudi tu, žal, podpisani nimam imen, da bi vse osebno omenil in posebej potrdil njihov lep in prijeten nastop.
Največji delež za uspeh moramo pripisati mlademu dirigentu mešanega pevskega zbora Peca, mag. Stanku Polzer-ju. Pod njegovim vodstvom je izbira skladb, interpretacija, razumevanje vsebinske in glasbene karakteristike posameznih pesmi, narodnih ali umetnih, dinamika, in dikcija. Skozi celotni program je bilo jasno, da Stanko Polzer strokovno obvlada svojo nalogo tako z glasbenega kot z jezikovnega stališča, in da uživa polno podporo svojih pevk in pevcev pri delu za uspeh in izvedbo slovenskega glasbenega zaklada.
Kot absolvent visoke šole za glasbo in umetnost v Gradcu, kjer je dosegel magisterij iz glasbe, in kot profesor glasbe na Slovenski gimnaziji v Celovcu, zasluži posebno priznanje za procvit in ohranjevanje slovenske pesmi na Koroškem. Njegov nastop kot pevovodja pevskega zbora Peca potrjuje, da je pevska tradicija ne samo v Globasnici ampak tudi na Koroškem v najboljših rokah.

Veselje vernih Slovencev in zahvala Bogu
naj bi bil naslov tega članka ob začetku škofijske klasične gimnazije v zavodu sv. Stanislava v St. Vidu nad Ljubljano. 31. avgusta bo blagoslovitev nove gimnazije, 1. septembra pa šolska maša v šentviški cerkvi, to zato, ker v škofovih zavodih še ni na razpolago dovolj veliko prostora. Pouk bo v petih oddelkih za 150 dijakov in dijakinj. 20 kandidatov čaka, če bi kdo odstopil, da bi mogli biti sprejeti.
Treba bo še veliko molitve in dobrih src, ki bodo podprla vse potrebe. Pred uničenjem zavoda po Nemcih in še bolj po komunistih, je bilo v zavodski gimnaziji, ki je trajala osem let, 300 dijakov. Vsi so stanovali v zavodu. Te dni, po preteku pol stoletja, še ni dijaškega doma. A začetek je tu. Hvala Bogu in dobrim ljudem, ki so podprli hude začetne težave. Če le moreš, POMAGAJ, da bodo prostori za dijaški dom popravljeni in pripravljeni za bivanje. Komunisti so naredili ogromno razdejanje; stroški so ogromni. A s skupno pomočjo dobrih src bodo zavodi spet služili slovenskemu narodu z vzgojo katoliške inteligence. Pomagajmo finančno; a ne pozabimo tudi pošiljati prošnje k našim rajnim škofom, pomorjenim duhovnikom in drugim našim znancem, ki so v veseli večnosti. Zaman se trudijo zidarji, če Gospod ne zida hiše.
Za nas, ki smo študirali v zavodu, pa tudi za druge, bo morda zanimiv tale spomin: Če obiščeš zavod, postoj pred glavnimi vrati. Na desni strani od glavnih vrat vidiš na zidu tablo s tem besedilom: »V tej stavbi je bilo v letih 1941 in 1942 nemško zbirno taborišče za slovenske izgnance v Srbijo, Hr-vatsko, Bosno in Nemčijo. Do osvoboditve so bili tu gestapovski zapori.«
Seveda nihče ne more pričakovati, da bi komunisti na teh zidovih napisali kak spomin na krvave čase komunistične tiranije: »Tu so komunistični morilci, ki se radi imenujejo ‘osvoboditelji’, mučili tisoče in tisoče slovenskih mož in fantov, predno so jih brez sodbe odpeljali v Kočevski rog in druge kraje, kjer so jih pomorili.«
Gotovo bo prej ali slej prišlo na zavodskih zidovih do napisov, ki bodo spominjali na najgrozovitejšo dobo slovenske zgodovine.	Jože Cvelbar
Zlata maša Rev. Jožeta Goleta
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - V nedeljo, 8. avgusta, ob 2. pop., je Rev. dr. Jože Gole pri slavnostni sv. maši praznoval 50-letnico svojega mašniškega posvečenja. Maša je bila v nabito polni Sacred Heart kapeli. Slovesnost so organizirali v čast dr. Goletu njegovi številni prijatelji, ob sodelovanju slovenskega društva Triglav.
Pri procesiji pred sv. mašo so sodelovale razne katoliške organizacije, društvo Triglav so pa zastopali njegov predsednik Jože Kunovar z ženo Marijo ter James Kaye z ženo Katherine in otroka Kathryn in Rebecca, vsi v lepih narodnih nošah.
Maševal je seveda zlatoma-šnik dr. Gole, ob somaševanju okrog 15 duhovnikov. Prvo berilo je bral Dennis Rakovski od Kolumbovih vitezov, drugo pa Frank Mejač, v imenu »Triglava«. Evangelij je bral Rev. John Lavrih iz Wichita, Kansas, ki je tudi orisal jubilantovo mladost v Sloveniji in nato po drugi svetovni vojni njegovo trnovo pot v tujino, vse do

Bilo je tudi nekaj drugih govornikov, med njimi advokat Karel Dovnik ml. Pri maši je pel pod vodstvom br. Davida Sandersa OFM slovenski pevski zbor sv. Janeza Evangelista. Po cerkvenem opravilu se je dr. Golč, ganjen iz vsega srca kot je bil, vsem zahvalil.
Po maši je bila v dvorani večerja. Po njej se je dr. Gole rokoval z vsakim gostom in se zopet zahvalil. Navzočih je bilo veliko fotografov, med njimi naš Jerry Umek. Bila je lepa slovesnost in slovenska prireditev.

Dr. Jože Gole se je rodil na Dolenjskem, v vasi Dobrnič, 21. septembra 1916. Ta mala vas nam je dala ameriškega misijonarja škofa Barago, sedanjega ljubljanskega nadškofa dr. Alojzija Šuštarja.
Dr. Golč je obiskoval ljudsko šolo v domači vasi. V Ljubljani je študiral na gimnaziji, kjer je leta 1937 z odliko maturiral. Nato je študiral na ljubljanskem semenišču. V duhovnika je bil posvečen 4. julija 1943. Radi takratnih vojnih razmer ni smel peti nove maše v svojem rojstnem kraju, marveč jo je zapel v cerkvi sv. Petra v Ljubljani.
Ob koncu vojne je moral dr. Gole Slovenijo zapustiti in sicer v avstrijsko mesto Gradec. Tu je z velikimi težavami nadaljeval svoje študije in prejel doktorat. Leta 1950 je prišel v Milwaukee, kjer je nastopil službo profesorja na tukajšnji teološki šoli, kjer še poučuje.
V teh letih je za svoje nesebično delo prejel več lepih odlikovanj. Velik prijatelj je in tudi

Obisk Janeza Pavla II. v Denverju
CLEVELAND, O. - Ko sva zvedela, da pride sv. oče v Denver, Colorado, sva z možem sklenila, da istočasno obiščeva najinega sina Francita, ki živi z ženo Majdo in dvema otrokoma v bližnjem mestu Louisville. Fantiček Mihec je star pet let, deklica Kristina pa leto in pol. 4. avgusta sva se podala na pot oziroma sva poletela proti Denverju.
Denver je mesto, ki leži eno miljo nadmorske visočine in ima z okolico okrog 2 milijona prebivalcev. Predmestja se hitro širijo, saj hiše rastejo kot gobe po dežju. Mesto Denver ni prav blizu gora, saj moraš voziti najmanj pol ure, da prideš do podnožja.
Takoj drugi dan smo se podali k romarskemu svetišču: Frances Cabrini Shrine, kar spada k mestu Golden. Najprej se podaš po hribu navzgor, prideš do velikega poslopja, ki je prostor za duhovne vaje, naprej je mala hišica z garažo, kar je vse na desni strani, na levi pa so še gospodarska poslopja.
Z desne strani prideš do samostana. V pritličju imajo trgovino, v prvem nadstropju je kapela in sestrski prostori, kar tudi v drugem nadstropju. Na levo od samostana je parkirni prostor, nato kapelica sv. Frances Cabrini, malo bolj spodaj kapela Srca Jezusovega, in še bolj spodaj dobiš vodo za pitje, katero je kot nekdaj Mojzes s palico izpod skale pridobila sv. Frances Cabrini.
Dan, ko smo bili tam, je bil Četrtek in ni bilo veliko obiskovalcev. Bil je lep sončen dan in si imel lep razgled.
Od parkališča naprej smo se podali po stopnicah v hrib in premišljevali križev pot. Včasih je več, včasih je manj stopnic. Potem prideš do kapelic Rožnega venca, med katerimi je deset stopnic, za vsako zdra-vomarijo ena. Pred kapelico je ploščad, kjer je tudi nameščena klopca, da se lahko vsedeš in tako premišljuješ vsako skrivnost rožnega venca. Ob strani je vseh 15 skrivnosti upodobljenih v kapelicah.
Ko prideš na vrh hriba, po 373 stopnicah, zagledaš 22 čevljev visok kip Srca Jezusovega na visokem podstavku. Okrog je kvadratni prostor s kapelicami desetih božjih zapovedi. Vse to oskrbujejo misijonske sestre Srca Jezusovega in njihovi pomočniki.
Zvečer smo obiskali Vatikansko razstavo, ki je bila v Colorado History Museum. Okrog 200 različnih reči smo si lahko ogledali, tako kip Michelangela, Berninijev načrt sv. Petra bazilike in stensko preprogo, katere načrt je nari-

duhovni vodja SKD Triglava.
Dr. Golčtu iskrene čestitke k zlatomašništvu, s toplo željo, da naj mu Bog nakloni dobrega zdravja in dolgega življenja, v veselje in ponos vsej naši slovenski skupnosti v Mil-waukeeju!	L.G.
sal slikar Rubens, izdelal pa jo je Durer. V to razstavo je bila vključena dvatisočetna doba od starega veka skozi renesanso do moderne dobe. Bilo je zelo zanimivo.
Na nedeljo smo zopet obiskali Frances Cabrini Shrine. Ta dan je bil zelo veliko ljudi, ki so kar v gručah hodili od postaje do postaje, molili in prepevali. Dva fanta sta po kolenih prišla do vrha, zopet je bil vroč dan. Prav okrog kipa Srca Jezusovega je bilo vse tiho, malo naprej po bregu pa so ljudje glasno molili.
V torek zvečer smo šli k Ridges College, kjer dela Franci in je bilo predvideno, da se bosta srečala sv. oče in predsednik Clinton. Bila je napovedana vaja za helikopterja, katera bosta prevažala obe visoki osebi. Prav na oranžnem prostoru sta pristala in to s tako močjo, da so se drevesa pripogibala. Ko sta vzletela, je bil zopet tako močan veter, da se je vse šibilo.
Od tu smo šli z Majdo k sv. maši, katero je daroval Rev. Tim Deeter, župnik iz Texasa. Imel je zelo zanimivo pridigo. Po pridigi je povedal, da dela z mladino, katera ga je hotela imeti za vodnika na poti v Medjugorje, a se sprva ni hotel pridružiti. Malo v skrbeh, da bi ne bilo kaj narobe, se je v zadnjem hipu pridružil in sprva le od daleč opazoval. Pri celodnevnem spovedovanju je začel misliti, da je to sveti

(nadaljevanje s str. 11) landu le opis enega od mnogih nastopov koroških pevk in pevcev v ZDA in Kanadi, nam je samo na podlagi tega koncerta jasno, kako važno poslanstvo za medsebojno kulturno izmenjavo sta pevski zbor Peca in folklorna skupina iz Globasnice prinesla v našo srenjo in našo novo domovino. Menda je podpora za ta obisk prišla od obeh strani meje na Karavankah, tako iz državnih krogov kot od posameznikov, pa tudi z velikim doprinosom slovenskih skupnosti v ZDA in Kanadi.
Naj si na koncu dovolim še osebno pripombo. Ko sem pred mnogimi leti še kot zelo majhen (ali, bolje rečeno, »mi-hen«) »pobič« s starši obiskal v Koprivni zdaj že dolgo pokojnega župnika Ivana Hojnika in v njegovi župnijski kuhinji pridno zajemal iz velike sklede v vino namočene jagode, se mi ni niti sanjalo, da bodo njegovi koroški rojaki in rojakinje po tolikih letih prinesli meni in nam v daljno Ameriko tako lep dar slovenske pevske in kulturne dediščine, tiste dediščine, za katero se je dobri župnik Hojnik tako zavzel v Globasnici že toliko let nazaj.

To oceno je dr. Milač poslal na Koroško g. Sadovniku in dr. Zerzerju za morebitno tamkajšnjo objavo, nam pa posredoval kopijo, ki jo seveda z veseljem objavljamo.

kraj, ker je pač delovala milost božja v dušah. Vrnil se je precej spremenjen in se nato v enajstih mesecih petkrat podal na pot v Medjugorje.
Da je res uspeh njegovega dela, so povedali njegovi žup-Ijani, ki so nato prišli pred oltar in govorili. Ko so ti končali, je povabil še navzoče, da lahko pridejo in povedo o svojih doživljajih. Več se jih je oglasilo, zanimivi slučaji.
Vse to se je dogajalo pred izpostavljenim Najsvetejšim in trajalo od 6.30 do 10.30. Bilo je tako zanimivo, da si pozabil na čas. Končeno smo prejeli še blagoslov in se razšli.
V	četrtek smo se odpeljali v gore in sicer v Rocky Mountain National Park, sicer do Alpine Visitor Center, ki je približno 12.000 čevljev visoko. V tistem času sta prišla visoka gosta v Denver in smo jih opazovali na malem ekranu, katerega je imela neka obiskovalka v Visitor centru.
V	Denverju je močno deževalo, v gorah pa se je premikala megla iz enega konca v drugega. Zjasnilo se je in zopet je bilo vse mehleno. Ko smo se vračali smo zagledali sneg v bližini ceste in se podali na kepanje, pravo doživetje v avgustu! Nazaj grede smo se peljali mimo cerkve na skali, kjer je v petek sv. oče počival. Ni še bilo zastraženo, pač pa je bilo s trakovi označeno, da ne moreš na dvorišče. To je še bilo v gorskem predelu narodnega parka.
Sobota je bila zelo natrpana. Sv. oče je imel sv. mašo v
stolnici za vse, ki so bili poslani od različnih škofij na predavanja in razgovore. Popoldne je imel v McNichols areni sestanek z mladimi, katerim je zelo prisrčno govoril in jih navduševal za življenje. Zvečer ob 7. uri pa je zopet bil v Cherry Creek State parku in tam poslušal pripovedi mladih iz njihovega življenja in okolja. Mi smo gledali po ekranu vse te zgodbe mladih, ki so se vrstili. Sv. oče je ostal do 11. ure, nato pa odšel k počitku. Mladina je ostala, nekateri so se še pogovarjali, pletli nova prijateljstva, drugi so še malo peli, tretji so pa zavili se v spalne vreče in pospali.
Mi smo v nedeljo vstali že ob 2.30, se odpeljali v mesto, kjer smo na vojaškem letališču pustili avto in se odpeljali z avtobusom do Cherry Creek parka. Od avtobusa smo še hodili kaki dve milji daleč. Pri vhodu smo dobili listič, kam naj se podamo, da ne bo nekje preveč gneče. Poiskali smo svoj prostor in se hitro med ostalimi prilagodili. Medtem se je zdanilo, sonce je vzšlo, kazalo je, da bo lep dan. Otroka sta imela malo igrač s seboj, sta se kar hitro vživela v to gručo novih obrazov.
Sv. maša je bila napovedana, da bo ob pol deseti uri. Okrog devete se že pokaže helikopter in prične krožiti nad parkom. Ljudje pa navdušeni, eni so poiskali robce, rute ali klobuke in veseli vzklikali. Parkrat je obkrožil park, nato se pa spustil na tla. Vse je bilo mirno in tiho čakalo. Postav-
ljen je bil velik ekran, a ko so velike razdalje, ni bilo mogoče vse videti.
Mladina je sv. očeta zelo lepo pozdravila, vzkliknila: Sv. oče Janez Pavel II., mi te vsi iskreno ljubimo!
Pričela se je sv. maša. Ves Denver je bil združen s sv. očetom. Pri pridigi je dejal: bodimo veseli, da smo katoličani, a je kasneje popravil, dejal je: Ne samo veseli, bodimo ponosni, da smo katoličani! Darila so prinesli mladi, tudi dva iz Slovenije, ki sta imela majici Slovenija, in sta bila vključena.
Posvečenje, vse je bilo zopet tiho, le glas sv. očeta se je slišalo, ko je posvetil ogromno količino hostij v Jezusovo Telo in vino v Jezusovo Kri' Potem smo vsi molili očenašl vsa ta množica je bila enogla-sna in počastila Nebeškega Očeta. Nato je bilo sv. obhaji' lo. Duhovniki so bili razdelje- ! ni, da so hitro prišli do nas in nam dali Jezusovo Telo na je' zik. Nato zopet zahvala!
Sv. maša je bila štiri ure dol- j ga. Večkrat so se oglašali 'n prosili, naj ljudje pijejo či® več vode, ker je bil dan silno vroč. Smo kar precej ubogal' in pili vodo, ki je zares dobra v Denverju. Veliko ljudi pa je moralo iskati prvo pomoč, P°' j sebno mladi, ki so se nalivali le z lahko pijačo (»pop«), ne z vodo. Okrog druge ure smo se pričeli razhajati.

katerega je Bog poklical k sebi 20. junija 1993. Naš ljubljeni je bil rojen 24. avgusta 1916 v vasi Sv. Miklavž, občina Tabor, Slovenija. V Ameriko je prišel 4. decembra 1951. Bil je član društva Presv. Srca Jezusovega št. 172 KSKJ. Zaposlen je bil pri Guileford and Son.
Pogreb je bil 23. junija 1993 iz Jakubs pogrebnega zavoda na 185. cesti, v cerkev Our Lady Perpetual Help na Neff Rd., in od tam na All Souls pokopališče. Našo globoko zahvalo naj prejme č.g. Gediminas Kijauskas, za brano pogrebno sv. mašo, za molitve v pogrebnem zavodu, za lepo pridigo v cerkvi, in za molitve na pokopališču.
Prisrčno hvalo naj prejmejo člani in članice društva št. 172 KSKJ, ki so se v tako velikem številu poslovili od našega ljubljenega in se udeležili pogreba. Naj Bog stotero poplača vsem, ki s° darovali prekrasne vence in cvetlice, za sv. maše, za številne izraze sožalja, ter vsem, ki so g» obiskavali v času njegove dolge bolezni. Iz dna srca se zahvalimo vsem, ki so se našega ljublje' nega prišli kropit, molili za njegovo dušo, se udeležili pogrebne sv. maše, in ga spremili prav d® groba. Lepa hvala nosilcem krste, prav tako pogrebnemu zavodu Jakubs za vso postrežbo i11 skrbno vodenje pogrebnega sporeda.
Razposlali smo zahvalne kartice vsem, ki so se nas in našega dragega posebno spomnili, io katere smo imeli naslove. Ako kdo take kartice ni prejel, naj nam oprosti in naj s to javno zah' valo sprejme naše globoko hvaležnost.

sem tele dni »primahal« do mejnika visokih let moje življenjske rajže, sem dobil velik kup pismenih voščil in dobronamernih želja — nad 70 — in zato se Čutim res hvaležno dolžnega zahvaliti se vsem znancem in prijateljem za nepriča-°vano tolikšno pozornost.
Otroci in vnuki so me presenetili in na tihoma zbrali sku-Pmo sorojakov, pa tudi novih znancev in prijateljev, da smo skupno praznovali. Zame, nepozaben večer, na katerem se nas je zbralo nad 140, kar P°ve, da na stara leta nisem sam in ne zapuščen. Pevski upokojencev Golden J'e Singers, v katerem pojem Ve fet, je z nekaj pesmimi po-Pestril večer, nato pa še naša ePa slovenska pesem je kar p arniško razgibala razpoloženje.

Tisti fantje iz koroških barak so zdaj zreli možje z lastnimi družinami in verjetno nabritimi vnuki, ki rasto v bolj sončnih časih, kot so bili časi njihovih staršev.
VSEM, ki ste me spomnili tele dni, še enkrat iskrena zahvala. Ne samo hvala. Moja mama je večkrat trdila, da za zahvalo bolj zaleže: Boglonaj.

Vsi vemo, da je čas neugnan vladar naši dni. Trdijo, da prvih 60 let življenja poteka v nekako ustaljeni brzini. Po 60-ih letih pa drvi z dvojno brzino, človeku pa istočasno upočasni korak. In po sedemdesetih letih in več? In veselo sporočilo, ki ga dodajam, to potrjuje.
Zadnje julijske dni je naša prva tod rojena generacija praznovala petindvajsetletnico šolske mature, ko so prestopili prag prvega dela šolanja in se je zanje začelo univerzitetno oblikovanje, nabiranje novega znanja in tudi oblikovanje osebnostnih značajev. Z veseljem in ponosom vam jih bom danes predstavil. Dvoje fantov in troje deklet oz. mož in žena. Več bom zapisal o fantih, ker o njiju več vem; brskanje po zadevah ženskega spola pripada pač mladim.
Omenjam jih po acecednem redu, kot je pametno, da se izognem kaki zameri in po velikosti, teži ali obsegu bi težko uganil točnost poročila.
Marko Boh — Visok, navadno nasmejan mož športne postave, je končal univerzo, a se je s podjetnim očetom, že pokojnim Ivanom, posvetil trgovski stroki. Začela sta s športno trgovino, ki je v nekaj letih zrastla v moderno in največje športno podjetje našega mesta, ki ga je zadnje mesece razširil in še odprl novo trgovino v sosednji provinci, v Britanski Kolumbiji.
Bohovi so vsi po očetu rojeni športniki. Marko je poročen, ženi Jennifer in njemu je Bog dal troje zdravih otrok, dva fanta in dekle, ki so seve tudi vsi športniki in silijo, kot pravimo, »pod vrh«. Marko še vedno igra hokej, kot seve oba sinova. Starejši teh, Aaron, je izbran od Vancouvra in trka na vrata profesionalne hokej lige. Mama Tončka je najsluž-nejša, tj. stara mama, gledalka vseh hokejskih tekem in verjetno razume hokej bolje kot mladi trenerji. Prav tako tudi baseball.
Marko je tudi odličen glas-
benik, vendar kadar igra, igra le v res izbranih skupinah. Je pa že tako, da čas ukazuje urnik delu in drugim namenom.
Toni Dimnik — Toni je po telesni rasti visoke postave, brihtnega duha in sem ga v dopisih že velikokrat predstavil. Bil je več let univerzitetni profesor na ontarijski univerzi v mestu London, letos pa je pričel poučevati na McGill univerzi v Montrealu. Mož je kot strokovnjak sodeloval že v več tečajih v Sloveniji. Z ženo Judito sta skrbna stariša fantu in dvema deklicama.
Danica Pahulja — Danica je knjižničarka na univerzi v Cal-garyju. Mirno dekle, hčerka je našega slovenskega podjetnika Ludvika Pahuljeta. Kaj več o njej ne vem, le poredko jo srečam, da bi jo kaj več pobaral, kako in kaj živi.
Terezija Previsič — por. Farlinger je terapistka za govorno prizadete in živi v Edmontonu. Poročila se je lani, mož John je športni poročevalec in v kratkem pričakujeta pomnožek božjega žegna.
Marija Šifrer — por. Tokar-chek, je bolniška sestra za duševno prizadete, hčerka mojega soseda, svaka Franceta in žene Zvonke. Živi in dela v bolnici v Kelovvni v sosednji Britanski Kolumbiji.

Polovico svojega življenja že zbiram in pošiljam Odmeve in, redkeje, Drobtine z zapa-da. Je torej primeren čas, da se vsem, ki sem jih »na tekoče dajal«, jezil pa verjetno tudi razveseljeval s svojimi pisanji zahvalim, posebno še obema urednikoma te moje poročevalske dobe (prof. Vinku Lipovcu za čez 30-letno delo pri Ameriški domovini, in sedanjemu tudi že večletnemu (15) uredniku dr. Suslju.
Dopisi od tule se redčijo, kot se manjša tudi naša slovenska skupina. Mladi se selijo proč, starejši pa odhajamo. Uredniku AD še enkrat zahvala za objavo dopisov in prijazen besede, ki jih je pripisal k dopisu o meni. Immormino, rojena Sladek, vdova po Anthonyju, mati Mary Rite Immormino-Revock in Sam-a, 2-krat stara mati, 1-krat prastara mati, sestra že pok. Carrie Mellon, Ernieja, Franka in Eleanore Ondrejka. Pogreb je bil včeraj, v sredo, s sv. mašo v cerkvi sv. Dominika in pokopom na Kalvarije pokopališču. Dne 21. avgusta je na posledicah možganski kapi v bolnišnici Meridia Hillcrest umrl 71 let stari Stanley S. Malenšek z Russella, O., mož Margherite, roj. Versaci, oče Bernadette M. Haklik in Benjamina, brat Anne Ferry, Franka, Martina, Matthewa, Leeja in Charlesa (pok.), polbrat Uršule ter že pok. Louisa in Kay, lastnik Stanley Malenšek Const. Co. vse do svoje upokojitve 1. 1987. Pogreb je bil 24. avgusta s sv. mašo v cerkvi sv. Ansel-ma v Chester Twsp. in pokopom na pokopališču River-view.

Papež v Denverju
(nadaljevanje s str. 12) jali vodo, da ne bi omagali radi vročine, zelo lepa gesta! Bil je močan veter, ki je dvigal prah, ko smo park zapuščali. Vsi veseli in dobre volje smo se vračali na naše domove.
V ponedeljek večer smo se srečali še z onima dvema, ki sta bila poslana, da se udejstvujeta na različnih programih. Zelo sta bila vesela in zadovoljna, da je bilo lepo. Veliko sta novega doživela. Odšla bosta z najlepšimi vtisi.
Vsi, ki so imeli stik z mladimi, so bili mnenja, da tako prijaznih mladih še niso srečali v življenju. Bile so velike skupine iz Italije, iz Vietnama, iz Španije, Mehike. Seveda so bile različne dogodivščine, a so vse srečno prenesli.
V nedeljo se je sv. oče ustavil še pri Vietnamcih. Prosili so škofje vlado, da bi povabila sv. očeta, pa je bilo odgovorjeno, da ni dobrodošel in tako so prišli tukaj skupaj in se veselili. Sv. oče je obiskal tudi sirotišnico, staro že 100 let, in se veselil z otroci, se z njimi slikal in prepeval razne pesmi. Vse skupaj je zamudilo sv. očeta, da je dve uri kasneje odletel nazaj v Rim.
Bili so zares lepi dnevi. Vsi smo iskreno častili Najsvetejši zakrament, se priporočali naši nebeški Materi Mariji in skrbeli, da smo bili dobri eden do drugega.

Dne 17. avgusta je za srčnim infarktom na svojem domu v Parmi, O., umrl 73 let stari Adolph A. Tomsick, rojen v Clevelandu, mož Lucille, roj. Peček, oče Kathlynn Stevens, Thomasa, Williama in Patricie Simpson, 11-krat stari oče, 10-krat prastari oče, brat Mary Juricic, Rose Weiss, Josephine Smith, Florence Pirnat, Cla-rencea ter že pok. Angele La-buda in Johna, veteran 2. svetovne vojne, 25 let policist v Clevelandu, po upokojitvi iz policije 1. 1972 je bil zaposlen 9 let pri Motor Express Trucking Co., 11 let je pa lastoval in vodil Bandbox Lounge na Brookpark Rd. Misijonska srečanja in pomenki
998. MZA Milwaukee, Wisconsin, piknik
je 25. julija zopet lepo uspel. Preds. ga. Mary Coffelt je poslala 4. avgusta izčrpno poročilo, ki ga v celoti objavljamo:
»Kar predolgo že odlašam s pisanjem, ker vem, da že težko čakate poročila z našega misijonskega piknika.
Prav slabo je kazalo zgodaj zjutraj, ko smo se peljali v Triglavski park. Celo pot je močno deževalo in smo bili v skrbeh, kaj bo? Do 11. ure, pre-dno se je začela maša, je veter razgnal črne oblake in smo imeli mašo, kot vsako leto, pri kapelici. Daroval jo je dr. Jože Golč. Podpreds. Jože Ornik je pozdravil zlatomašnika in vse navzoče. Franjo Mejač je bral berila in prošnje vernikov. Franci Coffelt je ministriral in ga. Mara Kolman je vodila petje.
Dr. Gole je daroval mašo za žive in mrtve dobrotnike misijonov. Spomnili smo se gg. Dragana, Kolmana, Rozine, Muršeca in Mernika. V krasni pridigi nam je podal življenje g. Lenčka, iz let v domovini ob ‘Katoliških misijonih’, ki so izhajanje nadaljevali kasneje v Argentini, in naše sodelovanje v Ameriki in Kanadi. Res zanimivo, da so ljudje poslušali in, upam, odnesli lepe zglede s seboj.
Prav prisrčna hvala dr. Go-letu za vse lepe besede in predvsem, da se je vrnil iz Slovenije dva tedna hitreje, kot je obljubil, da bo za MZA piknik z nami.
Že 23. leto poteka naš letni piknik in vedno srečamo skoraj ista imena tistih, ki delajo in se vsak po svoje žrtvujejo po svojih močeh za naše misijonarke in misijonarke.
Prva zahvala gre
gg. Bambiču, Smoliču, Karlu in Rudiju Dovniku, da so ob takem dežju prišli tako
zgodaj in začeli s pečenjem piščancev. Enako Jožetu Ku-novarju, predsedniku Triglava, Jožetu Kosu in Tončki Ci-mermančič, za pečenje klobas in hamburgerjev.
Iskrena hvala Mariji Kuno-var, Justi Androjna, Ireni Ku-novar, Mary Kiel, Rezi Smolič, Rozi Dovnik, Minki Mejač, Ivanki Modic in Loni Limoni, ki so vse pomagale v kuhinji. Tudi vsem dekletom, ki so postregla s kosilom. Posebna hvala dr. Jimmyju Cay, Toniju Limoni, Jožkotu Orniku in Jožetu Cimermančič za vso pomoč, kjer je bilo potrebno.
Hvala vsem gospodinjam za toliko napečenega dobrega peciva; prav posebej še gospem, ki so ga prodajale: Bambič, Kotar, Janežič in Majerle. Prav tako hvala Dannyju Mejaču in vsem fantom, ki so mu pomagali pri pijači. Vsem, ki so darovali v denarju, darila za žrebanje in prodajo listkov: Jackie Nimmer, Mara Kolman, Mary Kiel in Josephine Imperl.
Topla zahvala za tako krasne afghane, darovane od Elizabeth Gordon, Matilde Simčič in Mary Kržišnik iz Chicaga. Za žrebanje sta tudi letos skrbele Marička Kadunc in Matilda Simčič, s pomočjo Olge Smoley, Ančke Oberstar, Mary Belec, Milke Modic, Cvetka in Mary Kožuh. Prav lepa hvala Zofi Rifelj in Toni Jovk za krasne punčke. Muzikantje so tudi zopet brezplačno zabavali ljudi.
Hvala lepa g. Vladiju Kralju in gospe, ki privabita po radiju vsako leto več ljudi v Triglavski park. Letos smo zelo pogrešali g. in go. Menchak in Toni Jovk, ki so na obisku v lepi Sloveniji. Zato sta prevzela tokrat blagajniško delo ga. Mara Kolman in Franci Coffelt, ki sta pripravila tudi pri-
loženo finančno poročilo. Tudi letos naj se vzdržujeta dva bogoslovca, eden iz ljubljanske škofije in eden iz mariborske. Ostalo pa naj gre za najbolj bolne, lačne in uboge slovenskim misijonarjem(-kam).
Zahvaljujemo se vsem, ki ste prišli od blizu in daleč, da s tem pokažete svojo misijonsko zavest. Še enkrat vsem skupaj ‘Bog poplačaj’ za delo in trud ter žrtve, da je misijonski piknik tako lepo uspel.

je pripisala: »Mnogi, ki Vas poznamo, se veselimo z Vami, ko hvalite Boga za 50 let mašništva. Vsa Misijonska Znamkarska Akcija Vas spremlja z molitvijo. Seveda, najbolj se Vas pa spominjamo rojaki iz Milwaukee-ja, kjer s tako ljubeznijo že 40 let navdušujete in navdihujete ljubezen do Misijonske Cerkve. Bog Vas ohrani pri življenju še mnogo let med nami!

Lithotripsy takes about 90 minutes and requires only mild sedation. The lithotripsy unit, which resembles an X-ray machine, delivers shock waves thorugh a rubber, fluid-filled tube that is placed against the abdomen. The shock waves literally pulverize the gallstones into small fragments.
Lithotripsy causes mild discomfort. In most cases, the patient can go home after two or three hours of rest. Because lithotripsy does not eliminate the gallstones completely, the patient will take a medication by mouth to ensure that remaining fragments are dissolved.
We believe that up to 25 percent of individuals who have gallstones can be treated successfully with lithotripsy. I would suggest that you consult with a gastroenterologist or radiologist, who can determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure.

My supermarket has an entire aisle filled with soft drinks and I am confused about which brands are healthy and which are not.
The truth is that no soft drink is particularly healthful. If you read a few labels the next time you shop, you will find that soft drinks contain items like sugar, salt, artificial sweeteners and caffeine, that they offer little if ^ nutritional value.
Non-diet soft drinks have “empty” calories—for example, 150 to 200 in a 12-ounce can of cola. These drinks contain a lot of sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup—as much as nine teaspoons in a ^ ounce serving. Because sugar actually increased the body s need for fluid, these soft drinks do not really quench your thirst. Some non-diet soft drinks also contain a surpri5' ing amount of salt.
Most diet soft drinks today are sweetened with aspartame, which is marketed under the name NutraSweet. Unlike its predecessor saccharin, it has no bitter aftertaste and no lin with cancer, and it is m^e from amino acids instead 0 artificial chemicals.
