K temu sta tudi pripomogli dve drugi priredbi v bližini, posebno pa baaeballska igra, kjer se je kar trlo gledalcev, kakor so pravili. Pikniiki odbor se je potrudil in postregel posetnikom, kolikor je bilo v danih razmerah najbolj mogoče in tako je bilo ob 12. zvečer vse prodano. Zato gre v prvi vrsti hvala sledeči m,delavcem, ki so stregli gostom od začetka do konca: Paulu in Louiii I lovar, Loufsu Zupančiču, Johnu Kralevcu in Johnu Vitezu. Pomagal je tudi podpisani. Društva niso nič prizadeta, zantopniki pa tudi ne, ker vsakdo dobi 76c od seje, če se ude leži. To že zadostuje za tran-sportacijo, kar pa se drugače (»otroši, tisto se ne sme zuraču nati, ker človek nam zaužije. In koliko je tudi to vredno, da 46 s ljudmi spozna in na sdji nekaj nauči. Prvih šest mesecev t. I. smo pri federaciji imeli $188.80 do hodkov, izdatkov pa $206.80. To vsoto so dobila druAtva, ki so pridobila nove člane leta 1980, in |u* zastopniki za vozne stroške. V blagajni imamo še $182.94. NaAa naselbina se bo kmalu spremenila v mesto. la Ae v papir zavijejo in cto vam kuče za $150! Ceste imamo že tudi dve skoraj dograjeni, tretjo bodo pa pridali v kratkem graditi — inženir je še zasadil klin. Zupana imamo tudi na Bon Airu — Slovenca. Ta prostor je pripraven sa piknike, ker ima obilo prostora sa parkanje avtov. Imeli bomo rasne tekme in druge sabave za stare in mlade, kakor tudi izvrstno godbo "Har-mony Hitiks." Za dobro postrežbo bo vsestransko preskrbljeno. Uljudno vabimo vss sosednja društva, da nas poaetite v velikem številu. Tako bomo skupaj pozabili nadloge, ki stiskajo delavca povsod. Za lačne in lejne bo skrbel odbor. Kličemo: na veselo svidenj^! Joe Knapich, Joe Golob, Anton Potisek, odbor. Kavkaški petrolej pripada Rusiji, tlgriški pa se nahaja na osemlju Iraka in Irana, a njegovi vrelci so v angleških rokah. Ta dva revirja nista mnogo narazen, zato so razumi ji vi poželjivi pogledi sosedov čez mejo. Prometno grsvl-tira kavkaški petrolej proti Črnemu morju, tigriškl pa na Bre-dozemlje in k Perzijskemu zali-vu. Na osemlju angleškega imperija samem Je bore malo petroleja. To je vse, kar je pristno natega in v čimer smo re* doaegli laatni uspeh, kolikor amo mogli. V politiki ne ne moremo tukaj udejatvovati kot Slovenci, temveč le kot ameriški državljani oziroma Američani in le kot priveaek te ali one ameriAke politične stranke. Amerika ne pozna narodnostnih političnih strank in jih tudi ne mara, če bi mogle biti. V ameriški politiki torej nismo več Slovenci, mai^reč samo Američani. V gospodarstvu ali ekonomiji ae lahko udej-stvujemo le deloma. Ameriško goepodarstvo je eploina zadeva kakor politika, ki tie more imeti narodnostnega značaja, vendar so naši rojaki tudi na tem polju, bodial privatno ali v zadrugah, dosegli precej uspeha in pokazali so svoje zmotnosti kot dobri gospodarji. Saj tw di naše bratske podporne organizacije zahtevajo korenitega gospodarskega znanja, če hočejo uspevati. Dejstvo pa je, da goapodarske zadeve, kakršne koli že ao, morajo biti navezane na ameriški splošni ekonomski sistem in zakone; Je ono gospodarstvo tukaj uspeva, ki ae drfti ameriških pravil in razmer. Ce torej upravljamo svoja gospodarska podjetja in bratske podporne organizacije kot Slovenci In pod slovenskim imenom, se mora sistem vsake uprave drftati ameriških razmer in zakonov. Le pri naših kulturnih prizadevanjih ao nam meje ameriških razmer In zakonov najbolj široko poetavljene; le tu se lahko najavobod-nejše razmahnemo in Imamo največ svojega. To ugodnost nam pa dajejo ameriške svobodščine, ki so podlaga ameriški politični demokraciji. Teh dragocenih svobodščin smo vsa ta de-setletja, odkar bivamo v Ameriki, tako nava-—jeni, da se niti ne zavedamo, kaj pomenijo za nas. Stara resnica, da svobodo znaš ceniti še le potem, ko jo izgubiš — se drli tudi nas in vseh oatalih priseljencev. Nemogoče nam je vsem dopovedati, kaj imamo do danes v ameriških svobodščinah. To bomo spoznali še le tedaj, Če nas z vso Ameriko vred zadene katastrofa, da te svobodičlne izgubimo. Ako se agodi — in v današnji svetovni situaciji je vse mogoče — da Amerika izgubi demokracijo, kakršno ima do danes, bodo priseljenci najbolj občutili to izgubo; če Amerika pade pod kakršno koli diktaturo za daljšo dobo, bo to za nas udarec, kakršnega še nismo nikdar dobili. To boste občutili, ko ne boste več Imeli Prosvetc in nobenega drugepra slo-. venskega lista, ko bodo uničene naše podporne organizacije in ko utihne naša beseda v ameriški javnosti. Amerika je dala slovenski besedi večjo svobodo kot jo je kdaj dala Avstrija in Jugoslavija! O tem ne pore biti spora. Kaj smo mi počeli s to svobodo, je bila naša prostovoljna zadeva ; če ao bili med nami rojaki, ki so to svobodo izrabljali in zlorabljali v svoje osebne ali sektaške namene — in to še delajo — je to bila njihova zadeva, nI bila zadeva Amerike. Demokracija v splošnem ni trpela zaradi tega. Ampak vsaka zloraba mora imeti svoje me-J Kadar pride kriza, da zloraba lahko pri-neae smrt demokraciji, tedaj pride meju. Pred to krizo stojimo danee — In ameriška demokracija zahteva od nas, da mora biti med nami konec vsake zlorabe njenega imena, njenih svobodščin in njenega širokogrudnega zavetišči in pribežališča! Vaied tega je tudi dolžnost vsakega lojalnega Člana, posebno pa glavnih in društvenih uradnikov, da ustavimo to nepošteno gonjo proti do sedaj še vedno polteni in vplivni SNPJ. Vsakdo, ki ima kaj proti nji ali proti glavnim v odbornikom, naj vloži pritožbo ali obtožbo na pristojnem mestu. Vedeti moramo in imeti pred očmi, da ao naši pionirji veliko trpeli in se trudili, pred no so zgradili jednoto, pa bodiai tisti, ki so že mrtvi ali oni, ki še žive in so ji Še vedno zvesti in nanjo ponosni. V nedeljo je piknik Proletarea pri Ktfflji L Chicago. — Prihodnjo nedeljo, 80. junija, je letni piknik Proletarea in vseh prijateljev delavskega pOkreta. Vrši se na prijaznem Kegiovem vrtu v Wfl-low Springsu. Ta piknik prireja klub 1 JSZ in je zadnja leta postal redna in zelo uspešna institucija, ker na tem pikniku se navadno zberejo vsi pristaši in somišljeniki delavskega in socialističnega gibanja ne aamo iz Cbicaga, marveč tudi od blizu in daleč. Upamo, d« se tudi prihodnjo nedeljo zberemo na Kegiovem vrtu vsi Slovenci in Slovenke, ki stremimo po lepših dneh za vse človeštvo: po ustanovitvi take družbe, v kateri bo čiovsfc res lahko človek, v kateri ae ne bodo dogajale take tragedije kakor se dogajajo danes po vsem svetu. Človek si je že ustvaril take pripomočke, da bi lahko živel s svojo družino vred v blagostanju, miru in svobodi, vendar pa se še kolje in strada in trpi kot je trpel redkokdaj v svoji zgodovini. In vse to radi tega, ker je sedanji družabni red že izvršil svojo zgodovinsko nalogo, toda niso ljudske mase dovolj zavedne razumne, da bi si ustvarile boljši red. Toda tudi do tega bo enkrat prišlo. Ce tega ne bomo dočakali mi, bodo pa naši otroci, ker je socialna revolucija in zgraditev nove, boljše človeške družbe zgodovinska nujnost. V nedeljo mogoče ne bomo o tem sanjali na pikniku, marveč se zabavali s prijatelji in znanci. Igrala bo Pucljeva godba in vam sukala pete. Vstopnina prosta in postrežba dobra. Pripeljite tudi svoje prijatelje. V slučaju slabega vremena pridite popoldne ali zvečer v Slovenski delavski center, 2801 S. La-wndale. Ob dobrem vremenu se pa vidimo pri Keglu. In to brez tehtnih vzrokov, oziroma radi svojih lastnih Interesov, ker se jim morda ni posrečilo priti do kake službe, ali ker nlao bili Izvoljeni v kak urad, ali ker morda niao dobiti posojila v taki meri kot so ga sami teleli ali sahteva-1l. Toda vsakemu In vsem zahtevam se nI moglo še nikjer ustreči. Človek bi pričakoval od vseh takih hujskačev ali kritikov, da bi pri svojem društvu predložili obtožbo ali pri t ot bo. ki bi šla po inštancah toliko čaaa, da bi se stvar tako ali drugače razčistila. Izredno lep, idealen poletni nedeljski dan. krasna okolica, ki jo nudijo pennsylvanski griči, obdani z. zelenjem, posejani a prijaznimi doitiovi in vabljivo urejenimi vrtovi — vse se je zlilo v harmonijo idiličnega kraja za slavje dneva SNPJ. Pri tem pa se je ta vfelika prireditev razlikovala v tem, da je bila to menda prva večja slovenska proslava — brez piva! Naključje je naneelo, da so lokalni suhaški organi v zadnjem trenutku en-forsh-all znani "modri zakon" vsled nekega incidenta, ki se je tam pripetil teden prej. Ampak naši pik nikar j i so si znali pomagati a tem, da so pridno za-Slovenski dom v bližnjem Syganu, tako da je pač vsak lahko zadovoljil svojim žejnim potrebam. Na slavju šem se sestal z mnogimi stkrimi koreninami in pionirji jednote. Videl sem pri-jaznega Smrekarja, Jakoba Am brožiča, Fradelove, Hrvatinove, Rednaka, Deklevovc, Rolihove, Dermotove in mnogo drugih. Želel aem si, da bi noč tako hitro ne prišla, a kmalu je prišel čas odhoda in Tone Rednak nas je peljal od Hrvatinovih s svojim avtom na postajo v Pittsburgh. Naglo se je stemnilo, pričelo je rositl, nato pa se je vlilo jn dežju je vlak ob 11. odpeljal proti Chicagu. Louie Beniger. Sijajno »levje dneva SSPJ v Penni Chicago. — Dve federaciji društev SNPJ v zapadni Penn-sylvaniji, slovenska In angleška, sta zadnjo nedeljo skupno slavili peti vsakoletni dan SNPJ in 16-letnico angleško poslujočih društev v Morganu blizu Sygana [ s sijajnim uspehom. Udeležba je bila velika in med množico si videl mnogo mladine ter starejših članov, ki so se zbrali iz rasnih naselbin, da skupno manifestirajo svojo solidarnost do svoje največje slovfnske delavske podporne organizacije v Ameriki. Proslava se je pričela pred-poldne s športnimi igrami oporišč ne žoge in s kontesti med moštvi is vrst angleško poslujo-Člh društev. 2e dopoldne so se pričeli sbirati tudi gostje, kmalu popoldne pa je bil brez mala vea piknlški prostor napolnjen. Vreme je bilo Idealno, kakor nalašč za tako proslavo. Člani in prijatelji nrie jednote pa so Še vedno prihajali. Prišli so is oddaljenih naselišč Zapadne Vir-ginije in is Ohija, številne naselbine Is pittsburške okolice pa ao bile zastopane prav vse. Program se je pričel točno ob treh popoldne; vodil gs je energični mladenič in navdušen jed« notar Michael Kumer is Univer-sala, ki je imel posdravni govor. S krajšimi nagovori so navzoče občinstvo poadravili Anton Clp-čič sa slovensko poelujočo federacijo, John Trčelj is Strabant In Matt Petrovič iz Clevelanda, ki se je slučajno mudil v bližini, kot člana glavnega odbora jednote, P. T. Fagsn v imenu UM-WA. podpisani pa v imenu SNPJ. Med govori so izvajali pevske točke mešani zbori Bled Is Ltbrarjrja. Rožmarin is Ambri« dga In Prešeren iz Pittsburgh*. ter se vsi trije dobro postavili z P* na- jednote molzna krava, ali urednik In drugI uradniki vadne štape. Potem bl bilo zanje vse okej. Vse to ae godi — fonja proti jednoti -i na ta ali drugi način Društvene razmere Jennera, Pa. — £e večkrat sem poročala, da se tukajšnji" Slovenci dobro razumemo, sploh pa pri društvu 608 SNPJ. Imeli smo že skupno veselico z društvom JSKJ. Bili smo kakor bratje. Kadar je društvo JSKJ priredilo veselico ali piknik, smo se udeležili. Zadnje Čase pa je prišlo neko nesoglasje. Ko smo pred par meseci sklepali glede piknika našega društva 508 v Hysotl, je bilo navzočih veliko število Članov, ki ao obenem tudi člani JSKJ. Kakor je razvidelo, so prišlo zato, v Clevelandu, Detroitu in v sngleškem delu Prosvete. ki se ker smo imeli skupni račun od veselice, ki smo jo priredili me-aprila. To pravim, ker od takrat je nas le toliko na aejl, da jo lahko odpremo, člani pa večinoma doma na "porču" sedijo fo nimajo nobenega vzroka, za kaj ne bi prišli na sejo. Rekla sem, da smo razpravljali o pikniku. Takrat se ni nihče oglasil, da bi priredil skupni piknik. Ko smo šli po sej k našemu tajniku Francu Kre-seviču, da smo tam nekaj pospravili, kar je ostalo od veselice in kar se lahko spridi, je neki član obeh društev rekel, da bi naredili skupni piknik. Naš tajnik mu pravi, zakaj ni tega na aejl povedal, ker zdaj Je že prepozno. Ko smo se razšli, nismo nič slabega mislili, kes. bili smo zmeraj prijatelji. Potem pa smo izvedeli, da bo društvo JSKJ priredilo piknik en teden pred našim piknikom. Ker pa so delavske razmere slabe — dela se le en dan v tednu — je razumljivo, da ne moremo imeti dveh piknikov na isto pedo, le en teden narazen. Tako sodimo, da so s tem hoteli Škodovati našemu pikniku. Tega ne bi rekla, ako bi ga priredili vsaj dva tedna pozneje. Kakor se vidi, imamo tudi pr našem društvu sahrbtnete. Naš piknik smo sicer odložili, ko smo Isvedeli, da ga bo isti dan imelo društvo SSPZ na TIre Hitlu. Takrat še niamo vedeli, da bo društvo JSKJ Imelo piknik en teden pred našim. To sme isvedeli šele per dni pozneje. Toda Če bi bili to vedeli na naši seji. bl ga bili vseeno odložili, ker vemo, kako Je s financami. Brala sem v Prosveti Članek gl. tajnika br. Toda to ne velja samo za nas kot posameznike, temveč ravno tako tudi za organizirane skupine, v tem primeru za nas jednotarje. Vem kmalu bo spet treba kvfltefl^Mfr« opreti nujnega tri pnvljalnega dela. Na alavnost, ki je tako obširnega'pomena in se bo vršila 31 avgusta ter 1. in 2. septembra, se naravno pričakuje toliko več ljudstva in bo logično tudi več dela s pripravami. To toliko bolj ker bo trpela več dni in ker oskrba uključuje topot tudi prehrano in prenočišča. Toda stvar je v dobrih rokah in tako emo lahko že naprej prepričani, da bo vse lepo pripravljeno ter dobro preskrbljeno za prijetno uživanje in udobno razvedrilo vsem. Naši v za P»dni Penni imajo ta sloves, da se znajo dobro pripraviti za vsako Jttio tx>y pomembno stvar, pa se bodo gotovo tudi za tako važno prireditev kakor je glavna letna alavnost dneva SNPJ, na kater' bodo gosti iz vseh krajev te obširne dežele. Oni bodo gotovo sto rili svoje kar najboljše mogoče. Nas ostalih članov dolžnost pa j«, da «e hvaležno odzovemo ter udeležimo v kar največjem številu »oKoče. Torej pripravimo se! Naprej za naš velik dan !— AKTIVNOSTI V MINNESOTI Naši v severni Minneeoti tudi poskušajo, da v svojih aktivnosti ne zaostajajo za drugimi. Zadnja leta je federacija poskrbela za 'tfje število prav pomembnih prireditev. Nekaj so jih pa arati i a tQdi posamezna druAtva. Prihodnjo nedeljo bo spet važna •lavnout, ki jo prireja naše društvo št. 20 na Elyju. Na udeležbo *> povabljena vsa društva SNPJ železnega okrožja ter seveda tud P°wmezni člani in prijatelji. Pripravljen je tudi lep slavnostn program ter vse potrebno, da bo prireditev res vredna svojega n*mHni4 in bo posetnikom ustreženo kar največ mogoče. DruAtvo št. 20 je eno bolj prvih in najstarejših ter je bilo v kr: ^nihčasih in v časih težkih preizkušenj in sploh od vsega začetka izmed najbolj trdnih stebrov jednote. Zanimiv bi bil opis, wiko dobrega dela je medtem izvršilo med našimi rojaki na »Unjem severu. Materialno je vedno pomagalo potrebnim z red-11 mednimi podporami in storilo je mnogo za širjenje brat-/iHavske zavesti ter za kulturo in napredek sploh. Is Success Other Events Scheduled i The fifth annual Pennsylvania SNPJ Day, celebration, commemorating thfe ISth annivers&ry of our English Speaking Lodges, held in Morgan-Sygan, Pennsylvania, Sunday, June 23, was not onl>r another moral and socfal success for the Society, but was also one of the largest events of it« kind ever held in Western Pennsylvania by the two SNPJ federations in that section. The hundreds of membere and friends who assembled there from the tri-state area and other distant points, fully attest to the prt?stige and popularity of our ma*s undertakings under the banner of our organižation. The great moral and potential valtie gained from this can best be appraised by the extent this nfethod of manifestation of loyalty is put to serve for the well-being ot our So-ciety. For it is an undisputed fact that any mass mani« festation is advantageous only to the extent it promotes further growth and progress.
