Poglejte v New York. D BolesniŠka potpora i njezi-ni fondovi. Kajti deficite mora pqkritl članstvo i z svojega žepa v obliki izrednih doklad in to ni lepa reč. On that day the United States president and other major and minor public representative« will be elected. We sincerely hope that raoet of our members and reader» by now have decided how they will demon-•trate their voting power next Tuesday. We trust that they have arrived at a sound condition and that they will cast their vote« for tho«e candidates who represent their wUhee best and who, if elected, will strive to real I re them—in the interest of the wage earner». The official organ of the SNPJ for the pa«t two decade« is following the labor political policy, as outlined by the convention«, namely, it i« supporting the worker« politically on the principles and program of the Socialist Party of America. These principle« are, that the workers through political action—the ballot— mu«t capture the governing bodies everywhere with the aim of abolishing the pre«ent Capitalist »y«tem and substituting the Socialist •ystem which will constructively change the present chaotic economic and social order wherein the producers will share in all the modern comfort as private profit will be abolished and poverty and starvation will be a thing of the past. Denouncing and condemning the old system is not enough, but condemnation coupled with political action is constructive. Therefore we appeal to the young people who are interested in their own welfare, to vote for Thomas and Maurer and the whole Socialist Party ticket. Remember that a Socialist vote is not thrown away; it i« at .least a demonstration that you are through with both the old parties which are bought and ruled by the capitalist class with which the wage earners have nothing in common. The SocislUt Party is the party of the workers and lor the workers, the party of all oppressed and exploited, the party of intellectuals and professionals who see snd feel the class struggle. The Socialist Party stands for unemployment insurance, it demands the six-hour day and fiva-hour week and other legislation for the workers. We trust that our young people know the destructive work of the old political parties and the Capitalist system. It Is h'jped that they have learned tp see the inevitable breakdown of the capitalist economy, the detrimental results to labor of which no recounting is nscsssary, and we justly hope that our members and readers realise that a new social order is compatible to the welfare of the oppressed. Vote the Socialist .Party ticket «tralghtt A Story fr m Pmiylviiii The Penn«ylvanla State Board of Vital Statistics reports: •'Nearly 1,300 poverty-stricken mothers went through child-birth in Pennsylvahia last ysar without a physician or • midwife." To say that this is a state and national dls-grsee Is to use words far too feeble for the provocation. Theee mother« were deprived of «killed sid, not because they lived in a barbarom country, but becauee they were too poor to pay for help, snd the community was too callous or stupid to provide It for them. Pennsylvsnla is no worse than many other «Ute« in this regard, and there is probably not a doctor in general practice in that commonwealth who did not help some little stranger into the world last year without receiving or asking a dollar. But whils people are al-lowed to reach, through no fault of their own, the depth of poverty which engulfs millions today, no random charity can give aura relief. Tht MooRey-Billings Report Excerpta from the suppressed Mooney-Billings report of the Wickeraham Commission appearing in the daily press reveal the heavy indictment brought by its authors against the frame-up of the two famous labor prisoners. There is hardly anything that could be said of the prosecution's complicity in a shocking piece of injustice that ia not aaid in this report. The question immediately arises: Why was thie section of the report suppressed? Why not suppression of some other section instead of this one? The answer to these questions is not hard to find. Whether the fact that President Hoöver is a citizen of California had anything to do with the suppression we do not know. If this waa a consideration we are inclined to think that it was a minor one., The fact is that the Mooney-Billings cases show that courts can be prostituted in the interests of organized capital against the organized working class. That ugly fact is one that the apologists of capitalism would like to con-ceah To have it cooly bared in an important government document is something that the average routineer at Washington would shrink from. Hence the desire to suppress it. Now that the document is out, efforts must be renewed troughout the nation for the release of these labor martyrs. All quite radical agencies, eh? 1 Yes to are "all in the same boat," but a fat, swinish capitalist class gorges itself in first claas passage while the rest of us are down below the decks stoking the engines with just enough charity crumbs thrown to us to keep us from revolution.—America For All. ; Prosperity fer Ihe Masses The activities of the government in bolstering up the credit of financial and industrial institutions has been "vitally necessary," but "any further proposals which may be argued upon the next congress for the use of the national credit should be unreservedly opposed," says-the monthly bulletin of the National City Bank of New York, one of the most important banking organisations of this or any other country. In ahort, it is all right for the government to use its credit to ausist the rich corporation* from going on the rocks on account of temporary financial difficulties, but it would be terrible for the government to use its credit in order to give employment to the jobless. Undoubtedly this is the regular attitude of the "higher-ups." And it will be the attitude of congress and the adminietration if the jobless and thoee who areola danger of becoming jobless, do not use their ballota wisely on November 8. If they uae their ballots wisely, they will elect men to congress, the white house snd state and local offices who will see to It that th»* jffcblic provides employment for the unemployed. For that reason we feel that It would be a good time to bring to mind the election of Federation offi cers which will take place at the ngxt Federation meeting. At the last meeting It ws» agreed thgt the futuije officer» shall rgcelve pay for their services. During the present term the officers received no recomnense for their work. Therefore, In our opinion, we feel that the present officers should all be elected In order that tbev know that their servtcss have bean appreciated. They worked for year without any pay, now we should re-elect them snd give them the chancs to work and receive pay for It. If a man labors hard \o build house, It wouldn't seem just fair for another man to stop In and receive tha pay for the first man's work. Tha same applies to the present officers They were tbe first officers for the Federation. They did their best to build up the Federation and they willingly gave their services free Now that tha officer« will get pay, ws feel that their re-election wHI prove to them that we really ara grateful to them. Pa.—Yes, it was a successful affair. I mean our Halloween Dance. With such a large attendance with quite a few masquerades, together with Frank Koreits's music, why shouldn't we have a successful event? People were here from Dun-lo, Windber, Maple Ridge, St. Michael, Perndale, Woodvale Heights, Mox-ham, and other districts and towns that can't be recalled. Five prises were awarded to the winners. The dollar tiign hall was decorated beautifully in the season's colors, and credit Is gken to Josephine Bisjak, Ann and Frank Perchin, and Edward Sgonts. Last, but not least, we all had a good time. Another important event of the lodge will take place on New Year's Eve at the same hall, and that will be a dance—our third annual New Year's Eve Ball. Wa hope to see as msny and even more at this dance; we also hope that no other lodge nor club in Johnstown or its vicinity will plen en affair that night; your cooperation and patronage will be highly appreciatedl The committee for choosing our annual play will soon announce their definite plans, as to what play they have chosen and the cast, and leave It up to the members as to the time, etc. They also wish to announce that the play will be just as good as last year, and If possible, better. Watch for further announcements! Everyone is urged to attend the next meeting which will be at 2:80 on November 18; important discussions will take place, such as on the bylaws and the coming SNPJ convention. Ladies' Lodge, Naša Sloga, will commemorate their "Sixth Anniversary" on November 10 with a program and dance; one thing certain on the program will be a three-act play in Slovene, entitled, "Trije Vaški Svetniki," translated "The Three Vil-lags Saints." Parly of Milwaukee emphatically urges you to defest the Tax referendum sponsored by the big real estate owners. Milwaukee'» budget has already been reduced to $28 per $1,000. Further reduction« will hamper and reduce the city's services, pertaining to park», beaches, playgrounds, sanatoriums, libraries ash and garbage collections, street and alley cleaning, and other services which are for the public. The passage of this referendum will cost the small home owners more than it does now in the long run minus the many services that we are getting now at the cost of a little over $7 per $1,000. While the big corporations and real estate owners would save thousands of dollars, of course they don't need ash and garbage collection on their empty lots and the corporations don't need libraries, parks, beaches, etc. Ask your friends to vote NO on the Tax Referendum. Let's put these big shots where they belong and defeat it by an overwhelming majority.
