Federtlnegs davčnega ura-L (U S Internal Revenue KL..L' smo*dobili obvestilo, ki ^i>no važno za druitva, ka-L prireji« zabave in druge trditve, računajo "Kres Združenih držav je nedavno spremenil ;zakon o dav- h, na vstopnice, ki je &o 1. juto. letos veljal le za vstopnino naprej, zdaj pa je bil raz-t?njen na vstopnice že od 21c Kniitva, ki nameravajo pri- 1 j^jiti kako zabavo in razpravljajo o vstopnini, naj imajo to-J pred očmi, da ako na primer določijo vstopnino 25c za jgebo, bo treba od te vsote pla-4tj 3c federalnega davka za nako PRODANO vstopnico. Novi zakon namreč določa lc 4,'vka za vsakih lOc vstopnine ,11 odlomek te vsote, ako znaša rgtopnina več kot 20c. Pri vstopnicah po 26c ali 30c maša torej ta'davek tri cente, p vstopnicah nad 30c do 40c— [ idri cente in tako dalje. Vse tiskarne so dalje dobile »vodilo (in tako tudi naša), da aorajo zveznemu davčnemu arada poslati en iztis vsake vstopnice, koder vstopnina znar u več kot 20c ter obenem spo-,lotiti, koliko vstopnic je bilo Naročenih. ~ Urad hoče na' ta način imeti kontrolo, koliko vstopnic je društvo prodalo in koliko je ostalo »prodanih; da more potem za-ofunati predpisani davek. . Zakon v tem oziru dovoljuje jekatere izjeme, to je, da za gotove vrste prireditve ne zahteva davka, toda v tem slčajtl je vse* iej treba iti prej v urad lokalne-fi federalnega davčnega kolek-torja in dobiti takozvano formo 755-A, s katero je društvo ali organizacija potem oproščena tega davka. Med te izjeme so vštete vse erkvene in druge dobrodelne flrganizacije ter dalje prireditve vzgojnega značaja. Bratske or-pnizacije se ne smatrajo za dobrodelne organizacije, pač pa so tventuelno lahko izvzete od dav-m nekatere njihove prireditve .(kot n. pr. dramske predstave, [koncerti itd.), o katerih prireditelji morejo dokazati, da so bile Prirejene v vzgojna izobraževalne svrhe, in ne v "busineški" amen. Organizacija, ki hoče biti de-Itfna olajšave, pa mora, kakor ftceno, dobiti prej zgoraj omejeno formo 755-A in jo poka- ati tiskarni, pri kateri naroči "titopniče. -Le-te imajo namreč navodilo, b mora biti na vsaki vstopnici »inafena j>o.Hebej cena vstopnl-o. znesek davka in skupna vsoti. Na vstopnicah po 25c na pr. In najpotrebnejša stvar za slehernega delavca v današnji volilni kamiiefiji je, da zaupa le onim kandidatom, ki se izrekajo resno in .nesebično za ohranitev pogojev neoviranega , razvoja demokracije v Združenih državah. . Pogoji .za ohrano in neoviran razvoj demo-~k racije so v teh kritičnih časih najvažnejši! ■ a Kajti, dokler bodo veljali ti pogoji, živi še ved-* no upanje, tis se bodo ameriški delavci in mali farmarji'še nadalje svobodno organizirali in da bodo prej ali slej večinoma s|>oznali,' da je kooperacija med njimi edina pot, ki jih lahko privede v kooperativno slonečo na pod- lagi vsestranske demokracije, Vsaj oni med nami, ki ee zavedajo te potrebe. naj. kooperiratot z onimi, ki^ao enakega prepričanja ne glede na-io, h kateri delavski politični skupini spadajo. Iz eoverdalske naselbine toverdaJe, Pa.—Naj prvo naj povem, kaj imamo v naši mali koloniji. Imamo Jugoslovanski zabavni in prosvetni dom in tri društva — Prvi maj 427 8NPJ, društvo 198 SSPZ in društvo Novi zakon 022 HBZ. Vseh skupaj nas je tukaj okrog 100 Jugoslovanov in vsi smo kot eden. Naš dom smo zgradili v največji depresiji leta 1930, ko je bila še prohibicija. Zgradili smo ga in tudi dobro vzdržali, da nam je v ponos in v resnično korist naše naselbine, Oče in mati tega doma je tako rekoč društvo 427 SNPJ,. toda tudi društvo zveze in zajednice sta pomagala položiti temelj in vsled tega gre naš dom dobro naprej v korist dcuštev in vse naselbine- - Javnosti v zapadni Penni je nekoliko že znano preko seje federacije SNPJ, da naš Jugoslovanski zabavni in prosvetni dom praznuje^ 10-letnico 27. oktobra. Ravno na ta dan se vrši tudi fe-deracijska seja v naši naselbini. Odbor za to proslavo skrbi in deluje, da bomo imeli v resnici velik program, čeprav je naša naselbina mala, toda *e složna. Program ho vseboval sledeče točke:- 1) Nastopili bodo štirje pevski zbori, vsak zbor s par pesmimi ; 2) Mladinski krožek iz Midr waya priredi lepo igro v angleščini; 3) v gimnastičnem prizoru nastopita brat in sestra; 4) za ples bo igrala dobra godba Franka Barbičf iz Clevfelanda, ki bo prvič v Coverdalu (vsi ga veselo pričakujemo; 5) imeli bomo enega ali dva govornika, ki kandidirata v legislaturo (moramo jih imeti radi pijače); 6) imeli bomo tudi enega ali dva delavska govornika iz naše srede. Mo-ram omeniti, da od danes naprej boste imeli večkrat priliko sliša- ti iz naše naselbine. Se par besed našim društvom zapadni Penni- Na svojih ok tobrskih sejah izvolile čim več zastopnikov za federacijsko sejo, da boi lahko napravila čim boljše zaključke. Na zadnji seji ste dali odboru polno moč, da priredi plesno zabavo skupaj z angleško poslujo£o federacijo. Ta priredba bo nekakšen zaklju- oktobra. Helen Robich, tajnica. PK08VETB Društvene priredbe 30-Ietnica Naprednih Slovenk Cleveland. — Bliža se dan sla-vitve 30-letnice društva Naprednih Slovenk 137 SNPJ. Z namenom, da seznanimo naše prijatelje o tem dogodku, smo razposlale pismena vabila vsem naklonjenim društvom. Vršila se bo v nedeljo, 27. oktobra v SND. Proslava »e bo razlikovala od prejšnjih obletnic v tem, da bO-mo podale na omenjeno nedeljo ep vprietni program ob 3:3H) popoldne. Ta program bo vseboval dve kratki igri po imenu "Domišljavka" in "Snubači". V teh igrah bodo zastopane samo društvene članice obeh oddelkov. Štiri srečne oziroma nesrečne snubače si bomo izposodile od različnih jednotinih društev. In sicer bodo ti snubači od sledečih društev: Avgust Komar in Frank Clemenčič od Napreja št. 5; Maks Traven od angleško poslu jočega društva št. 667 in John Ceh od Lipe št. 129. Kot za vse, naj velj* tudi pravilo: Svoji k svojim! Dalje bo na programu petje, nastop našega krožka ter nastop naših dobrih društvenih pevk; govor samo enega, toda dobrega govornika br. Petrovicha. Sedaj n izgovpra, da -je prevroče, r Trotrebno Je tudi, da smo aktivni v novi kampanji, katero je razpisal gl. odbor SNPJ. Ta pravi, da smo prepočasni v pridobivanju mladine, kar. je resnica. Treba se je torej požurtti, kakor se na primer inšurenčni agenti, ki toliko časa trkajo na vrata, da dobe člana in obetajo več kot pa dajo. Vidmar se je opekel na nogi v tovarni, Fran-ces Mraz je tudi zbolela, Anno Znidarko hudo muči revmatizem, • 1 Veselica društva 7S1 Detroit. — Vsi rojaki v De-troitu in okolici so uljudno vabljeni na veselico, katero prired žensko društvo Cvet 751 SNPJ v soboto zvečej;,/12. oktobra, V Slovenskem domu na John R-Na tej. priredbi bo poleg vhod-ninskfc nagrade oddan tudi fin "Silex coffee maker". PAGE SIX For Members of Slovenm National Benefit Society and American Slovene* --n i ■ ... ■ —n--- WEDNESDAY, fXnX)BKR The SNPJ Is Leader in Fraternalism Our jubilee membership campaign was officially launched.on October lst It is being conducted in ob-servance of the 15th birthday of the SNPJ youth move-ment and its features are liberal enough to spur our active members to wage an energetic drive. From now until the end of this/fcbservance much will be said in these columnn in connection with the history and background that lead to the formation of our first youth units. Before going into the history of this move-ment it is well to review briefly some of the new things which our Society inaugurated. We point with pride at itn record of having been a pioneer in the fraternal insurance system and business as well as in democratic princi ples and progressive ideology. It is interesting to note -that our Society was the first fraternal organization in America to organize English speaking lodges; other fraternals, seeing the necessity for such units; followed suit But prior to the establish-ment of these units, the SNPJ was the leader in other things which proved beneficial and ,were copied by other fraternals. 7 ^ . i _ J f t »tl# |f) ... J j ^ The SNPJ was first in establishing the central sick benefit fund and a uniform sick benefit scale for ali members; first to create its own official organ (in 1909); first to give its members the initiative and referendum (in 1907); first to give equal rights to women members (in 1909); first to have women delegates at its conventions and women officers of its lodges; first in establishing its Juvenile Department (in 1912) and nine years later its juvenile organ, and it was the first and thus far the only ona-to publish its daily paper and to establish its own printery. It was only natural that it was the SNPJ which was again in the forefront in 1925 with founding its English speaking lodges as well as an English section in its official organ. The members of a fraternal society, through their rep-resentative form of government and the mutuality of the Open Contract, are enabled to control the affairs of the society, to keep cloae contact with the management, the policies and practices of the society, and through their duly elected representatives cause changes to be made for the benefit of the group as a whole should occasion arise. The contracts being issued may need change. The management may need change. Th« members of the society are in a posi-tipn to accomplish this with a minimum of effort and expense, for, after aH, they are the society itself. Subject to the limitation of rea^on-abhmess, nonviolation of federal or state constitutions or statutes, and nonviolation of vested rights of the minprity, they may enact by-laws to remedy a situjition, which wlll be held valid by the courts. Should the by-laws, ,when enacted, exc«ed the foregoing limitations, thcy are subject to two further checks—one by the courts, and the other by the Insurance Department of the various states which regulate and control fraternal societies, and which tnust approve the by-laws to be enacted. In the fraternal soclety we have not only the adequate rates and legal reserves of the old line company, backed by similar investments, but we also have an extra guaranty furnlshed by the Open IContract whereby the members, through ^their own aetion, may change the contract to meet changing condition« or emergencies which may arise. These changes are made by the membership itself and are subject to approval, not only by the courts, but the state Insurance Departments. In closing, I should like to touch briefly upon several of the comments vvhicfT we freqruently hear about the tw« formi-- of contract. It is often said tha,t the closed contract is simple, concise, and that it tells the whole story within Its four čdrncrs; also, that it guarantccs the rates and benefits. This is aH vcry true, «o long as the guarantees behlnd the contract remain good. Let these guarantees break down, how-ever, and what good is the concisenens and simplicity of the contract? In other words, are | of the closed form of contract lay-ing too much streas on form alone, rather than fundAmental subnUnce? The Open Contract, whlle not so concise or simple, perhaps, and not containing ali iU terms and condl-tions within the four corners of the paper, nevertheless has the same fundamental substanc« as the closed form, plus the added advantages which have been polnted out. Fur-thermore, the Open Contract can not going to be raised, any salesman or twister to the contrary. In the second plače, the management, even^if it could, would not raise rates or levy assessmenta un-less it wa» absolutely nec«aaary to meet an cmergency, for good busin«aa judgnunt ^ould dietate otherwi»e. In the third plače, even if rates were raised or assessmenta levied, they would be subject to r«view by the courts and supervising stat« Insurance Dipartments as to their reasonableness, violation of law or vested rights of the minority. Even if the statement were changed from "They can raise your rates" to "Your rates can be raised" the same s^tuation vvould apply. You and your fellow-members would be the on«s raising your own rates or levying an assessment against yourself, for you are the membership, th« owners of the aociety, and the «oci«ty itaelf. It is this fact which is overlooked when sueh .statementa go unansw«r«d: By training your field representatives so that they have a thorough knowledge of that which they aro offering to a^prospeetive ihember, they, in turn. will be aMe to elearly explain to sueh prospect exactly what it is theV are offering. Depending upon the degree of thoroughneas of the training and the ability of th« field r«presentatives, much of th« lack of knowledge on the pa rt of the proapcct will be aeen to diaappear, as well aa much of th« fi«ld representatives argument that h« cannot seli an open form of contract.
