ActaChimicaSlovenica EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Janez Košmrlj Dear Colleagues It is indeed a great pleasure and a privilege for me to introduce to you Acta Chimica Slovenica (ACSi) in its new and attractive design. The Acta, initially titled Proceedings of the Slovenian Chemical Society, has been published by the Slovenian Chemical Society since 1951. At the time of its inception and for years since the initial aim of the journal was to enable Slovenian researchers in the field of pure and applied chemistry to publish their results. In recent times, ACSi has gained popularity within the international chemical community. ACSi is now abstracted/indexed by Chemical Abstracts, Science Citation Index®, Current Contents® (Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences), ISI Alerting Services®, Chemistry Citation Index®. Since the beginning of the new millennium the journal has been included in Science Citation Index® and in a short period of two years ACSi has achieved an impact factor of 0.5. ACSi publishes reviews, scientific and technical articles, as well as short communications in the chemical and closely related areas of research. Acceptance of a manuscript is based on an evaluation of its scientific merit as judged by national and international peer review. In the appendix section, book reviews, industrial achievements, announcements, and society news are published. The journal is published quarterly and full text versions of papers published since 1998 to date are available free of cost at http://acta.chem-soc.si. ACSi will continue its mission to provide a venue for domestic and regional authors to publish their results in. It will also serve as a publishing venue for the international chemical community. With the continued growth in research results submitted for publication in journals world wide, it can only be anticipated that smaller journals like ACSi will gain substantially as well in the next few years. It is the intent of the Editors and the Editorial Board to increase substantially not only the impact factor of ACSi but also the visibility of the journal in wide-ranging, state-of-the-art research areas. In this context several projects have been initiated to increase the overall quality of the journal. For example, beginning January 2004 ACSi has appointed a team of Associate Editors, and beginning 2005 this team has become international. Well-established scientists have joined the editorial board, and their assistance will contribute to our endeavor in making ACSi an increasingly successful journal. To celebrate these early successes, we have decided to continue publishing the journal in both the printed and electronic versions in a new, contemporary design. Editorial Editorial-novi-pp.indd 1 15.3.2005 16:50:37 With the support from established scientists, reviewers, a dedicated editorial team, the publisher, and sponsors I am confident that Acta Chimica Slovenica has entered new and exciting times in the new millennium. I thank everyone involved in this effort, and also thank all contributors to the Acta in advance for their support of the journal. Sincerely, Janez Košmrlj Editor-in-Chief February 21, 2005 Editorial-novi-pp.indd 2 15.3.2005 16:51:04
