GEODETSKI VESTNIK | 63/1 | optimizem priložnosti optimistic about ¡t" opportunities f IK NI D O Blaž Mozetič predsednik Zveze geodetov Slovenije | president of the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia Za letošnji Geodetski dan smo si zadali izziv, da odgovorimo na vprašanje, kako trajnostno, dolgoročno in vzdržno zagotoviti optimizem, da bo geodezija postala oziroma ostala stroka priložnosti. Hvala in srečno! l H I | 63/1 | GEODETSKI VESTNIK This year's Land Surveying Day responded to the challenge of finding the answers for how to provide a ¡0 sustainable, long-term and viable optimism that will help land surveying to become or, even better, to S remain the profession of opportunities. The answer to the question brings to mind an anecdote about three men who met one day. The first one was deaf and remarked: "I have heard that war is about to break D > out!" The second one was paralysed and commented: "Oh, how valiantly we will fight!", and the third one, being blind, finally asserted: "Oh, let us live to see that!" Tremendous optimism, one might remark. However, land-surveying optimism and opportunities have to rest on foundations that are a bit more solid. In some areas, the foundations are truly solid and deep, which is especially so for our favourite subject: land cadastre, where land surveyors have been looking for opportunities for the past 200 years, and have yet to find them all. In contrast, another excellent opportunity lies in continued scientific and technological development, requiring from us to adapt quickly to the latest trends and social needs. Land surveying is closely linked with other professions, and is deeply embedded in international development trends. Both needs, as well as the solutions or services that we will be able to offer to the society tomorrow, may not even exist yet. To prevent lagging behind, one has to learn every day, one has to cooperate, look at other fields. Special attention has to be devoted to wise employment decisions because even the most brilliant ideas will not be put into practice without educated, motivated and capable individuals. It is not possible to produce any optimism without high potentials in human resources. Land surveying offers and will continue to offer opportunities, but one should bear in mind that no profession — be it in the sectors of education, public services or economy — is capable of absorbing the shocks of constant economic and demand fluctuation to keep optimism sustainable. Presumably, we all agree that the most difficult thing is to find, grasp, nurture and finally use opportunities. It is not simple, and not every opportunity necessarily bears fruit, but we should insist because this is the only way to strengthen the optimistic view that opportunities have existed and will remain to exist. One has to keep trying, those who stop will lose. I am positive that there are numerous opportunities to maintain sustainable and viable optimism. I am also convinced that Land Surveying Day offers opportunities for a deep reflection on professional challenges, solutions and dilemmas, as well as optimistic views and opportunities. Let the Land Surveying Day be a welcome reminder of every land surveyor that opportunities in the field exist and will continue to do so. Dear land surveyors, for the most part, our activities are intended for people with soul, morals and honour, which is why land surveying will remain the profession of opportunities, only if we work with people and for the people. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Programme Committee and the Society of Surveyors from Dolenjska for the organisation of this years' Land Surveying Day. A heartful thanks also goes to the sponsors and everybody who has contributed to the success of the Slovene surveying profession, be it with their contributions, cooperation, or presence. Thank you and all the best! I 12 |
