Naj ga hvali, kar ga hoče, ni prehvaliti mogoče ga v nobenih hvalnicah. Dar posebnega češčenja: živi kruh in vir življenja danes nam je predložen. Pri večerji v živi veri bil je trumi dvanajstéri zbranih bratov izročen. Bodi polna, bodi glasna, bodi mila, bodi jasna vernih hvala in radóst. Dan slovesni se ponavlja, dan ustanovni se proslavlja, kar je dana ta skrivnost. Nov je Kralj pri tem obredu novo jagnje v novem redu mesto starega nam dal. Novo pride, staro mine, pred resnico sen izgine, noč premaga dan svetal. Kar tedaj je Kristus stóril, to - učencem je govóril -v moj spomin naj se vrši! Naročilo se spolnjuje, kruh in vino se daruje za rešenje vseh ljudi. Nauk dan je za kristjane, kruh tedaj meso postane, vino pa postane kri. Vid in um ne izmodruje, živa vera potrjuje: nadnaravne so reči. Te podobe raznolike skrivajo reči velike v znamenjih, a ne v stvareh. Jed, pijača sam postane, vendar Kristus cel ostane, pričujoč v podobah dveh. Kdor uživa, razdeliti ga ne more, ne zlomiti, celi Jezus pride vanj. Kakor eden, tisočéri, vsak ga prejme v isti méri, za nikogar ni ga manj. Dan je dobrim, dan krivičnim, le z učinkom prav različnim: za življenje ali smrt. Je krivičnim v pogubljenje, dobrim vernim pa v življenje, dvojen, glej, je vstop odprt. PRAZNIK PRVEGA SVETEGA OBHAJILA_ V naši župniji je že nekaj let stalnica, da imamo praznik prvega svetega obhajila na zadnjo nedeljo v mesecu maju. Letos je bil to tudi liturgični praznik sv. Trojice in zadnja nedelja v mesecu maju. Imeli smo štiri prvoobhajance in sicer: Katrina Antolin, Bronwyn Davies, Anna Marie Horvat in Gregory Horvat. Na ta dan smo se pripravljali pri veroučnih urah v Slovenski šoli prav tako so bili vsi vključeni tudi v pripravo v angleški katoliški šoli, ki jo obiskujejo. Za to priložnost smo imeli samo eno sveto mašo in sicer ob desetih dopoldne. Ker je bilo vreme lepo, smo se zbrali zunaj pri kipu Marije Pomočnice -dva dni prej je bil tudi njen praznik - in se posvetili Mariji, deklice so položile pred kip cvetje, Gregory pa svečo. Nato smo v procesiji med petjem Marijinih pesmi poromali v cerkev in nadaljevali s sveto mašo. Med mašo sta pela mešani župnijski zbor in angleški zbor. Starši so sodelovali pri branju božje besede, prvoobhajanci pa so prinašali darove in se po obhajilu zahvalili. Potem smo skupaj z ostalimi otroci zapeli pesem »Jezus moj ljubim te«. S tem pa še ni bilo konec slovesnosti. Ker smo bili proti koncu meseca maja je še moški zbor Majolka zapel litanije Matere božje, vsi pa so pomagali z odpevi. Ob koncu so otroci prejeli še spominke, zhvalili so se župniku in po blagoslovu smo se še priporočili Mariji s pesmijo »Marija skoz življenje«, da bi nas vedno vodila v življenju. Iskrena hvala hvsem pevcem za sodelovanje, organistu Carlu in dirigentu Johnu, prav tako angleški skupini in Ivanu za spremljanje na kitaro. Hvala vsem ministrantom, zakristanoma, pobiralcem darov. Lepa hvala ga. Olgi za zelo lepo okrašeno cerkev, vsem, ki čistite cerkev, posebej članicam Oltarnega društva. Prav tako hvala staršem za sodelovanje pri pripravi otrok na prvo obhajilo in tudi vsem, ki molite za našo skupnost, da bi še naprej složno sodelovali in ohranjali našo slovensko skupnost živo in dejavno. V soboto, 1. junija 2013 sta v cerkvi Brezmadežne v Torontu sklenila sveti zakon naš faran Johnny Paul Hočevar in nevesta Kristina Francesca Kure. Dobrodošla v našo župnijo in veliko sreče in božjega blagoslova na skupni življenjski poti. Sunday's Readings Body and Blood of Christ Response: You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek. First Reading Genesis 14:18-20 Melchizedek, king and priest, brought bread and wine. Second Reading 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 St Paul describes the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Gospel_Luke 9:11-17 From five loaves and two fish the crowd ate as much as they wanted, and the scraps filled twelve baskets. "This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me. " Illustration In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a belief known as Jansenism was doing the rounds in the Church, especially in France. Basically this took a very serious view of original sin, and denied the role of human free will; the implications were that few people were thought worthy of receiving Holy Communion because few people were going to be saved and go to heaven. Many Catholic priests preached and wrote against this belief, and it was rejected by the Pope as being contrary to Catholic teaching. St Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Re-demptorists, was one such character in the eighteenth century who preached and taught against Jansenism. Although you may not be familiar with any of his theological writings, perhaps you will 172 | VESTNIK 2013 know a popular hymn written by him, called "O Bread of Heaven". St Alphonsus wrote this hymn to help people understand what the Eucharist is all about; and in the last two lines of the fourth verse he asks a question: "For how can he deny me heaven, who here on earth himself hath given?" There is nothing here to do with worthiness, just the fact that Jesus humbled himself so much that he gave us his very self; and if Jesus went this far on earth, how can we think that he might possibly deny us heaven in the future? It is a beautiful hymn but theologically something much more, explaining to all the people, the learned and the simple, the truth of the unconditional love of Christ given to us in Holy Communion. Today the hymn "O Bread of Heaven" will be sung in many churches around the world. Gospel Teaching Where St Alphonsus got his inspiration from is the sacred scriptures and today we see that in the first letter of St Paul to the community of Corinth, part of which we heard in our second reading. Knowing how precious and special the Eucharist is to the Christian community, St Paul simply relates to them what was said and done at the Last Supper, to help them come to a deeper understanding and a fuller appreciation of what the Lord is doing. In this letter of Paul to the Corinthians, the paragraph before the one we have just heard today is all about the community getting into trouble. It would seem that the Christians in Corinth were not celebrating "the Lord's Supper" as it was meant to be celebrated. Quite the opposite, with many people eating with their friends, and not the whole community, and others drinking too much, to the point of drunkenness. Some people were going hungry while others were getting drunk, and St Paul calls them to account. Here he advises them what actually happened at Jesus' Last Supper, explaining that this was all received from the Lord and he is now passing it on to the community. St Paul relates what was said on the night Jesus was betrayed. He tells us that Jesus took the bread and said, "This is my body, which is for you"; and that when he lifted the wine he said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood." Every time we gather to celebrate the Mass, the Eucharist, we are doing exactly as Jesus commanded us, and we are doing it in memory of him. Application Many of us can feel at times completely unworthy of receiving our Lord in Holy Communion. Our feelings of unworthiness may come from within ourselves, or other people may have laid a sense of unworthiness upon us. Wherever the feelings of unworthiness come from, when we come to Mass, the Lord is inviting us to be in perfect union, in communion, with himself. No one here today receives the body and blood of Christ because he or she has been a totally good, sinless person. All of us are sinners, and that is something we all confess at the beginning of Mass. However, we are all invited by the Lord to come and eat and drink. That is not because we are good, but to help us to be good. Today when you come forward to receive the Lord in Holy Communion, take a moment to prepare yourself properly; remember that this is Jesus giving himself to you, wholly out of love; and remember, as St Paul tells us, that every time we eat this bread and drink this cup, we are proclaiming Christ to the world. 13th Annual Slovenian Day Camp: August 6 - 9, 2013 This year we will hold our 13th annual Slovenian Day Camp. VABILO_ V petek 7. junija 2013 bosta Gizella in Štefan Ray pri večerni maši obhajala 60 letnico poroke. Po sveti maši vabita vse na »open house« v župnijsko spodnjo dvorano. Sprejemata samo čestitke. BARAGOVI DNEVI Tudi letos se odpravljamo na Baragove dneve, ki bodo prvi vikend v oktobru v mestu DULITH v zvezni državi Minnesota - na koncu Lake Superior. Ker je pot precej dolga bomo šli v petek, 4. oktobra zjutraj, prespali bomo v Marquettu, tam kjer smo tudi lansko leto. V soboto bomo nadaljevali pot do Dulith, kjer bo zvečer Slovenska maša. Tam bomo potem tudi prespali. V nedeljo dopoldne si bomo ogledali znamenitosti v mestu, popoldne je angleška maša in banket nato pa se bomo vrnili do Maquetta in prespali, v ponedeljek zjutraj pa se vračamo domov. POKOJNI V torek, 28. maja 2013 je odšla k Bogu po večno plačilo naša faranka, MARTINA »Kristina« KOLAR. Od pokojne ste se lahko poslovili v Markey Dermody Funeral Home. V četrtek popoldne smo molili za pokoj njene duše. V petek, 31. maja ob 11:00h dopoldne pa smo v naši cerkvi opravili pogrebno sveto mašo in nato pokojno pokopali na Our Lady of the Angels pokopališču. Iskreno sožalje možu in otrokom.
