NEW DATA ON GENUS BESDOLUS FROM THE BALKAN PENINSULA (PLECOPTERA: PERLODIDAE) Tibor Kovacs 1 & David Muranyi 2 1 Matra Museum, H-3200 GYÖNGYÖS, Kossuth L. u. 40, Hungary E-mail: koati@t-online.hu 2 Hungarian Natural History Museum, H-1088 BUDAPEST, Baross u. 13, Hungary E-mail: muranyi@zool.nhmus.hu ABSTRACT New localities of three species of Besdolus from the Balkan Peninsula are presented. B. illyricus is new to Albania, B. ventralis is new to Greece. Keywords: Plecoptera, Perlodidae, Besdolus, Balkan Peninsula INTRODUCTION This paper is based on material collected in the Balkan Peninsula by staff members of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (see Muranyi 2007). The specimens have been preserved in 70% ethanol and housed in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Budapest, Hungary). The new localities are shown on the map of the Balkan Peninsula (Fig. 1). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Besdolus illyricus Kovacs et Zwick, 2008 Material examined. ALBANIA: Mat county, Deje Mts, open stream towards Fushe Lure, N 41°39.829' E 20°11.730', 1210 m, 13.04.2006, 3 larvae, Zoltan Eross-Zoltan Feher-Andras Hunyadi-David Muranyi, PLP2230 - Shkoder county, Prokletije Mts, Okol, stream along the conjunction to Peje Pass from the Boge-Okol road, N 42°24.496' E 19°45.271', 1009 m, 30.05.2005, 1 exuviae, Krisztina Balogh-Zoltan Barina-David Muranyi-Daniel Pifko, PLP2292 -Shkoder county, Prokletije Mts, Okol, stream along the path from Okol to Valbone Pass, N 42°24.255' E 19°46.483', 895 m, 01.06.2005, 1 exuviae, Krisztina Balogh-Zoltan Barina-David Muranyi-Daniel Pifko, PLP2293 - Shkoder county, Prokletije Mts, Theth, Shale River, N 42°23.695' E 19°46.265', 750 m, 03.06.2005, 1 exuviae, Krisztina Balogh-Zoltan Barina-David Muranyi-Daniel Pifko, PLP2294. Remarks. The species was recently described from Montenegro by Kovacs & Zwick (2008). It is new to the fauna of Albania. It was found in four localities of two mountain systems (Deje Mts, Prokletije Mts). The ecological conditions of the sites are similar to those described for the type locality, but the altitude range is wider (750-1210 m a.s.l.). Besdolus imhoffi (Pictet, 1841) Material examined. CROATIA: Mala Kapela, Plitvička jezera, 14.05.2005, 1 exuviae, 1 male imago, David Muranyi, PLP1768. Remarks. Only one, more than one hundred years old record (Agram, 11 Mai 1900) of this species was known from Croatia (Klapalek 1912, under the name Dictyogenus ventralis (=Besdolus ventralis), see Zwick & Weinzierl 1995). However, based on unpublished results of Aleksandar Popijač, this species is common in some rivers of the country (Aleksandar Popijač and Ignac Sivec, pers. comm.). Besdolus ventralis (Pictet, 1841) Material examined. GREECE: Kozani county, Neapoli, Aliakmonas River, N 40°19.572' E 21°24.421', Fig. 1. New localities of genus Besdolus in the Balkan Peninsula; grey areas are above 1000 m. 559 m, 14.05.2006, 1 exuviae, Laszlo Danyi-Jeno Kontschan-David Muranyi, PLP2120. Remarks. It is new to the fauna of Greece (see comprehensive work of Tierno de Figueroa & Fochetti 2001, and Pardo & Zwick 2004, Ravizza 2002, Sivec 1997, Tierno de Figueroa & Fochetti 2007). It was recently recorded from the rivers Raba and Lafnitz in the Carpathian Basin (Graf 1997, under the name Besdolus cf. imhoffi, see Kovacs et al. 2004; Kovacs & Ambrus 2001). Earlier data are from the 1910s (Zwick & Weinzierl 1995). ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We are grateful to Aleksandar Popijač (University of Zagreb, Zagreb), Ignac Sivec (Slovenian Museum of Natural History, Ljubljana), Jose Manuel Tierno de Figueroa (Universidad de Granada, Granada) and Peter Zwick (Schlitz) for the information. Thanks are due to Otto Merkl (Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest) for linguistic help. REFERENCES Graf, W. 1997.
