Pri tem je bila Abstract The paper discusses the educator and fruit- grower Franc Praprotnik (1849—1933), an eminent representative of the teaching pro- fession at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, who realized the value of the new and nascent agricultural fields in Slovenia following the economic crisis and the ensuing food crisis and famine in the 1860s - particularly fruit-growing. By introduc- ing a new approach to the cultivation of fruit tree sortiments his influence was decisive for the Slovenian part of Styria at the least. He personally educated a large number of good farmers and fruit growers and cultivated over 50,000 seedlings in the eleven tree nurseries he founded during his professional career. His work contributed greatly to the acclaim reaped by the Mozirje region in the field of fruit-grow- ing at the beginning of the 20th century when the apples grown there were marketed as far as Turkey and Egypt, and the fruits grown in the region were sold at top market prices. * Natalija Žižić, univ. dipl. zgodovinarka in sociologinja kulture, sodelavka SŠM, e-pošta: natalijazizic@gmail.com
