A check-list of thrips (Thysanoptera), so far recorded in both countries, includes 149 species, 107 (78 species of suborder Terebrantia and 29 species of suborder Tubulifera) in Slovenia and 114 (74 species of suborder Terebrantia and 40 species of suborder Tubulifera) in FR Yugoslavia. Among the most important collectors of thrips are zur Strassen and Janežič for Slovenia and Andjus and Kazakov for Yugoslavia. KEY WORDS: thrips, Thysanoptera, chronology, check-list, Slovenia, FR Yugoslavia Izvleček - KRONOLOGIJA TRIPSOLOŠKIH AKTIVNOSTI IN PRIMERJAVA SEZNAMOV RESARJEV, NAJDENIH V SLOVENIJI IN ZR JUGOSLAVIJI V prispevku je predstavljena kronologija tripsoloških aktivnosti na območjih današnjih Slovenije in ZR Jugoslavije. 61 Acta entoinologica slovenica, 11 ( 1 ), 2003 KLJUCNE BESEDE: resarji, Thysanoptera, kronologija, seznam vrst, Slovenija, ZR Jugoslavia Introduction - chronology of thripsological activities Slovenia Species of the order Thysanoptera in the geographical area of present Slovenia were first mentioned in the paper of Morison and Tanasijevic (1966), who studied these insects in former Yugoslavia. Further researches of thrips followed in early 80's, when their occurrence, mostly on wild-growing plants, in Slovenian seaside was examined by zur Strassen (1981, 1984). Janezic (1991, 1992, 1993) followed with his work in 90's, but remained focused on the similar spectrum of the plants as zur Strassen. In the last few years researches of thrips have been focused on economically important species, among them the most numerous deal with pests of cultivated plants (Trdan, 1999; Trdan and Jenser, 1999; Trdan etal., 1999; Trdan, 2000; Trdan, 2001; Trdan, 2002abc). The following check-list includes all 107 species of thrips, recorded in Slovenia so far. FR Yugoslavia Thrips in the geographical area of current FR Yugoslavia were first mentioned in the beginning of the previous century, when Karny (1907, 1908) published the results of his survey on thrips in several locations of Montenegro, at that time being a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Priesner (1919) followed with a research on the occurrence of thrips in eastern Adriatic area from where he described two new species of Thysanoptera. In 1927, Kazakov studied the thrips fauna in Serbia and is an "author" of numerous newly recorded species of those insects in that part of the Balkan Peninsula. In 1966, Morison and Tanasijevic published a paper on thrips in former Yugoslavia. Five years later, an article was published on the first record of Thrips simplex (Morison) (Gojkovic 1971). Researches were intensified in the early 80's, mostly due to zur Strassen, who also published an extensive check-list of Thysanoptera species in former Yugoslavia (1981, 1984). After 1989 most taxo-nomic and biogeographic researches were conducted in the Department of Entomology in Natural History Museum in Belgrade (Andjus, 1989, 1990, 1990a, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1995a, 1996, 1996a, 1997, 1999, 1999a, 2000; Andjus and Milenkovic, 1996; Andjus et al. 2001; Simova et al. 1997). The last check-list of thrips species, recorded in FR Yugoslavia, was published in 1997 and the number of species has increased in meantime from 98 to 114. Relatively small number of studies on thrips in this part of Europe is due to a pretty small number of thrip- 67 Acta entoinologica slovenica, 11 ( 1 ), 2003 sologists in the Old continent. Paradoxically, that number is, comparing to the other continents, still the highest. First researches of some 250.000 km2 area of the former Yugoslavia can be traced back to the first decade of the previous century, when Karny (1907) described six species of thrips as new, recorded from Montenegro. Priesner (1919) followed with two new species a decade later. More significant is Kazakov with 35 newly recorded Thysanoptera species in 1927, mostly from Terebrantia. Almost forty years later Morison and Tanasijevič (1966) covered an area, which is now divided into five independent states (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FR Yugoslavia, Macedonia). In that research the first thrips are reported to be recorded in Slovenia. In the beginning of the 80's, zur Strassen found further 54 species in Slovenia, while in the 90's researches of thrips intensified in FR Yugoslavia. So far, 42 species have been newly recorded by Andjus (1989, 1990, 1990a, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1995a, 1996, 1996a, 1997, 1999, 1999a, 2000) or by she and her colleagues (Andjus and Milenkovič, 1996; Andjus et al., 2001). That period is also significant for Slovenian entomology and thripsology, as Janežič as the first Slovene published the report of his monitoring, which resulted in the discovery of 36 additional thrips species. In the last years researches in Slovenia are focused on economically important Thysanoptera species. During 2000/2001 their monitoring on cultivated plants from 47 orders and 24 families resulted in the finding of 35 thrips species, among them five newly recorded ones (Trdan, 2002abc). Both in Slovenia and FR Yugoslavia, measures are to be taken and intensified to detect economically important thrips species, above all on imported plant material. Among the 149 species of thrips, recorded in both countries (107 in Slovenia, 114 in FR Yugoslavia), the majority belongs to Terebrantia. Considering occasional nature of such studies, 149 species is quite a significant number in any aspect. References Andjus, Lj. 1989.
