Tega jaz pisal nisem, ker S. S. P. AMENDMENT TO THE BY-LAWS The referendum on the motion proposed by Lodge No. 63, vvhich came to a close on June 28, 1939, was passed by 2,322 against 120 votes. Therefore, it is offi- cially announced that beginning with July 1, 1939, the following new Section of the By-Laws, which will be knovvn as Section 269, a) of Article XXXII., will be in full force and effect: Section 269, a). In addition to sick benefit payable for a regular childbirth in accordance with Section 269, the Society shall pay FIVE DOLLARS ($5.00) towards insurance of the newly-born in either Class A or B of the Juvenile Mortuary Fund. The application for such insurance shall be approved by the Local Lodge not later than three (3) months from the date of birth of the child, otherwise the additional benefit shall not be considered. Sbould the newly-born child die before the admission into the Juvenile Department, the amount of additional benefit shall be paid to the mother of the child. EXPLANATION REGARDING THE PROCEDURE OF OF THE NEW SECTION: In order to enable ali those concerned to follow the provisions of the new Section, the following method should be employed: Whenever a member, who is insured for sick benefit, applies for childbirth benefit, the Lodge Secretary shall tender, to the member concerned, an application for ad- mittance of the new born child to the Juvenile Depart¬ ment. The two applications, namely the requisition for childbirth benefit and the membership application for the child, must be forwarded to the Main Office. In retum the Main Office shall forward a check to the Lodge covering the childbirth benefit, and vvhen the membership application for the child is officialy ap¬ proved, a membership certificate and a receipt showing the period for which the chilcks assessment is paid by the Society, will be mailed to the Lodge. In cases where the childbirth benefit requisition is not accompanied by the child’s membership application, the Lodge will be notified of the fact. In no čase will the Society pay the additional $5.00, if the child dies before the parents make application for admittance of the child to the Lodge. The new Section became effective on July 1, 1939, and therefore, the additional amount of $5.00 will be paid for children, who were born on or after that date. A delightful way to spend the eve¬ ning—an opportunity to see the brilliant night illumination of Chicago—with dancing in the large marine ballroom—a floor show—strolls around the prom¬ enade decks, and refreshments in the cocktail lounge. Let’s meet at the southwest end of the pier at 9:00 o’clock. Get your tickets from Mr. A. B. Cole, City Passenger Agent of the Chicago Roosevelt Steam- ship Company, who will be on the dock the evening of the cruise. Mr. Cole has made the Victorians and their friends a special rate of 60c for this night dancg cruise so be sure to get your tickets from him. Mention that your are a Victorian and take advantage of this saving. Both the Stony Island, and Grand Avenue cars go directly to the Navy Pier and for those who are driving down there are free parking facilities. Remember how we ali enjoyed our trip last year? Jeric By Stan Zorc The SSPZ Spartans became leading contenders for the I-L title in the Inter-Lodge League trophy race after their impres¬ sive 7 to 3 victory over their most powerful rivals, the SNPJ Loyalites, at Gordon Park last Friday night. This win also gives Spartans for the first time this season undisputed first plače in the Inter-Lodge stand- ings. Heralded before playing time as the game of the season, the tilt turned out to be a disap- pointment to the crowd of peo- ple who had gathered to witness a bloody battle but saw instead a onesided contest when the Loyalites could offer no com- petition to the mighty men of the SSPZ. First two innings gave indi- cations of a close and hard fought game but the third in¬ ning quickly changed any such impression. In the first half of the third, the SNPJ lads pushed aeross a run oh two hits and a walk. The outlook was dark to the Spartan fans as the boys were visibly shaken from the sudden attack. However, hings brightened considerably in the last of the third when Spartans broke loose with a barrage of hits to bring home four runs. After that it was ali Spartans and the Collinwooders never had a chance. They were beaten and knew it. Three more tallies followed in the fifth to complete Spar¬ tans’ scoring while the opposi- tion had one in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Bernie Schultz, Spartans’ ace hurler (and only pitcher now that Johnny Jurca is out with a broken toe) was credited with his sixth victory of the season while Laddie Cetinsky, regarded by many as the best mounds- man in the league, took his sec¬ ond defeat of the year. It looks very likely that be¬ fore the season is over this team will be hailed as the best I team in Spartan baseball hi s tory, and it has a very g 0Q S , j chance of doing what no oth er Spartan team has been able to do—win the Inter-Lodge cham pionship.
