On the Cover . . .
Sweet girls’ voices, those of the students attending Mt. Assisi Academy at Lemont, 111., blend in a choral message of thanks—especially appropriate on this Thanksgiving Day. They are a picture in their choristers’ gowns as they stand in the music room of the school. Perfection is a watchword with their teachers, the good Slovenian Franciscan Sisters, who seem to have taught them very well.
The Mt. Assisi Academy for Girls has been a source of our pride since its beginning and the Union has tried to join with many other groups to fulfill the Sisters’ dream in building and outfitting the high school. Many things are still needed, and offerings are gratefully accepted. Whatever can be done to help them will be; and there is yet another way the future of these students can be assured. At the Board of Directors meeting in October, it was decided that one student from Mt. Assisi Academy be selected as the first recipient of the IVAN ZORMAN MUSICAL SCHOLARSHIP, which our Union is sponsoring in connection with the S.W.U. Scholarship Fund. Donations by members and friends who believe in the idea and wish to support it, will be accepted gladly, because through your contriibutions this is the only way we can continue the good work of the S.W.U. scholarships. Perhaps one of the young and eager faces you see here will the one whose aspirations for a musical education will be fulfilled through the IVAN ZORMAN memorial.

THE PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY MESSAGE
Dear officers and members:
Let’s get right to the point, and the point is, the Pre-Convention Membership Campaign. Four months have elapsed in this important campaign, and as I reflect and review our accomplishments of those four months, let me examine our individual records. Have we used every opportunity to serve the Slovenian Women’s Union? If not, should we not make the most of the months remaining before our National’ Convention to render every service that can be done? If we are to attain our goal of 1000 new members we must show our salesmanship very soon. We cannot afford to assume the attitude “let others do it” for inactivity will mean sure defeat!
Large awards will be given to all workers and to the ones who really start on grand membership tours, they will earn for themselves the title, “HONORARY DELEGATE” plus the monetary award and free round-trip fare to the Convention City in 1958. Let’s see if the thermometer, “Membership Indictator” can be moved upward swiftly from now on.
FESTIVITY CELEBRATING JUBILEE OF BRANCH
NO. 54, WARREN, OHIO — A GRAND SUCCESS!
September 22nd was a double festivity in the vicinity of Cleveland, Ohio. In the morning at St. Vitus church, we started the day with the blessing of their new Auditorium and Recreation Building. Members of Veteran’s organization, Boy Scouts, school children, Ven. Sisters and the many Clergy from near and far paraded around the new structure and into the church. Mrs. Pauline Stampfel, president of our Branch No. 25 escorted Supreme Secretary Albina Novak, and me through this beautiful structure, showing us the modern facilities they have to accommodate great variety of activities. Congratulations to Father Louis B. Baznik, pastor of St. Vitus, and his parishioners for their untiring efforts.
In the afternoon, promptly at 1:30, two buses were filled with Cleveland members and officers, driving to Warren, Ohio, some 50 miles away. We arrived just in time for the Banquet at 5 o’clock. A large crowd welcomed us there and in no time everyone was seated for the Banquet, held at the Slovenian Home. Everything was done to perfection, the delicious meal, program and speakers. Sisters Rose Racher and Helen Tomazich, the founders of this
fine branch, looking charming and happily reminiscent, spoke of the successes made in 25 years. Sister Racher is President since the founding of this branch and is also a past Supreme Officer. She is indeed fortunate in having the loyal support of all her members and officers which was evident on this day. Through my observance, I have found the members of Ohio to be closely knit groups and always ready to answer the call from wherever it comes, to participate in sister affairs. A true slogan “in unity there is strength!” exists there. So “THANK YOU”, WARREN, O'HIO! Good luck, good health and God bless you! My profound appreciation to Mrs. Stampfel for hospitality shown while a guest at her home.
WITH A SONG IN YOUR HEART I have often heard the remark that, the happiest people are the people who sing. We are a very musical country and music provides a channel through which all nationalities, all creeds and beliefs can meet together without prejudice. We are all benefitted that way because singing really brings us an awareness of our priceless heritage. So, all’ who may be interested, you may have this information. We have a new record of eight Slovenian songs, (on long play) made by our Choral Club of Branch No. 2, Chicago, III. It sells for $3.50. Also, a pocket-size song book of Slovenian and English songs, is available, for $1.00, both prepaid from the Home Office.
THANKSGIVING DAY, NOVEMBER 28!
Let us be grateful for the blessings we receive and let’s resolve to continue with our service to humanity and to always practice the teachings of fraternalism and patriotism. ALL SAINT’S DAY, FRIDAY, NOV. 1st, IS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION!

NOVEMBER REFLECTIONS

November, the month of falling leaves and dying mortals . . .
The aroma of burning leaves is one of the charming features of the waning years. The leaves have done their work, they are now expendable. They leave behind but the spicy fragrance of their fleeting lives.
So too, it is with us. We live. We do our work, then the Fall of life comes. We too are expendable. In God’s plan, and also in the eyes of the neighbor.
Like the autumn leaves we should leave a sweet fragrance at our passing. Good deeds linger on. They are like the perfumed leaf fires of early autumn.
At our funeral the priest will use incense. Like the leaves we will go out in the cloud of perfume. The November of our life calendar will find us with our work done, our purpose in life fulfilled. So we pray.
November, the month of Armistice and Peace . . .
TEACH your sons and daughters that their bravery is but a fool’s boast and their deeds but a firebrand’s tossing unless they are indeed just men and perfect in the fear of God, and you will soon have no more war. —John Ruskin.
PARADES and two minutes of silence are all right, but two hours with the country on its knees in prayer for those struggling to prevent war, would be more to the point.

November, the month of the Poor Souls . . .
To Catholics and Christians a month of affection that reaches beyond the grimmness of grave and yonder. Grim and dim because of the unaccessible fact that there beyond the horizon of our yearning and searching lies the answer to all questions." A poet wrote about November:	No
warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease, no comfortable feel in any member. No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees, no fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, November. — What a cynical attitude on nature’s most mystical and profound month! November, to me, is the month of spiritual understanding, when my soul seeks out all mortals who have left their mortal coils and sprung up into eternity, free and unmolested by temptation of the earth. November to me is the month of the harvest, when bees and birds and humans gather around their holdings and fruits of Spring sowing, and Summer labors. November to me is the month of reflection 011 my purpose in life, on my destiny, 011 the immortality and eternity I was created for. November, the month of the Poor Souls, souls who are still mayhaps wandering in their search for the Light, Truth and Ultimate Way, because in their failings and shortcomings they have seen themselves too much and not seen God and neighbor as Christ wanted them to see and do. Faith is the glowing and burning ember which warms my heart into the thoughts of Christian love and affection. In November I am to reach out with my praying hands to the Almighty Source of Life and eternal Happiness in a humble petition to give all who have departed before us the repose they were yearning, wishing, praying and working for. In the month of November by going out beyond the shore of this universe, I resolve that the remaining days of my life should be more dedicated, more spent and more lived for God and eternity.
In the month of November, the Light of eternity shines brighter, because of the background of dreary days and waning nights. In the month of November God comes closer, because I tend to forget the sun, and the heat of life terestrial and seek the Sun and Warmth of a celestial Florida ...
November is the month of all poor souls who care to think of God and eternity. November is the month of all poor souls who share with us the longing that has been in human veins since they were made, the longing for Beauty, Peace and the Last Repose.

ACTIVITIES OF OUR BRANCHES
No. 2, Chicago, III.—Penny Social.—
Once a year, our branch dispenses with the regular order of business on its meeting night and gives the members a chance for an evening of fun. This party will be held on November 14th, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the usual place at St. Stephen’s. The committee will make every effort to make the evening an enjoyable one, therefore, don’t miss it. Our secretary Mrs. Muller will be on hand to collect your dues and we hope that you’ll keep her busy. Will be seeing you on November 14th! No. 2, Chicago, III.—Choral Notes.—
On Thanksgiving Day let us be thankful to Him for all we have had in the past, all we have in the present, and all we will have in the future!
Sunday, November 24th, at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Stephen’s Gym, the Choral Club will present a Concert and Show. This promises to be an afternoon of good entertainment.
Participating in the program will be the Prešeren Male Chorus, the St. Stephen’s Church Choir and the S.A.R.C. Folk Dancers. Mary Ann Go-milar will also appear as the soprano soloist. The setting of the show will be in the hills of Tennessee. Be prepared for fun galore. Plan to attend and bring a friend.
I am still accepting orders for the S.W.U. Choral Club Souvenir Album. Price $3.50 per Record album. Thus far, all orders have been filled, and the record accepted most favorably. No. 3, Pueblo, Colo. — Our yearly meeting will be held on November 4th with election of officers the main topic. We hope many members will attend and elect officers of their choice. That way, the meetings will be a pleasure and all officers and members will carry on happily all the year through. Especially for the office of president, I suggest one be elected who has a knowledge of both languages.
Our secretary reminds everyone who must pay dues to do so now, before the end of the year. And, bring along new members to these last two meetings of the year.
Good Luck to our Supreme Officers celebrating birthdays this month, and President Josephine Livek, who celebrates her birthday on Nov. 8th; and Albina Novak on Nov. 5th; and C. Leskovar for her Oct. birthday. (Thank you. C.L.)
Anna Pachak, Pres.
No. 6, Barberton, Ohio.—Our next meeting will be Dec. 1 at 1 o’clock. Officers for the following year will be elected. We hope to see a lot of you there.
The Federated Slovene Lodges of Barberton are planning a Slovene Day 1958. Our branch is represented by Margaret Naizer. The dance we held Sept. 28 was a success and the proceeds will be used to promote Slovene Day in 1958.
Our treasurer, Jeanette Killoran and her brothers and sister have opened a store “Slovenian Cleaners’’ in their building on Tuscarawas Ave. We wish them success.
Our past President Evelyn Hudak (Krizay) gave birth to baby boy, Matthew Jr.
An old member of our branch passed away, Jennie Troha, at the age of 76. She was from Babno Polje, Slovenia, and is survived by three sons and four daughters, one of whom is our Treasurer Jeanette Killoran. Our sympathy.

MINNESOTA CAMPAIGNS FOR NEW MEMBERS
We all had our vacations and summer is over. There will be a lot of activities beginning in November, such as the campaign for new members and many money projects. This being a Pre-convention membership campaign, I think it’s up to each and everyone to try and contact a friend or some new family that moves in your town. Ask them to become members of this fine organization. Here at Ely we have two groups which you can belong to if you are of a certain age group.
At present, we are out to raise funds for a new church that I hope will be completed by the first of the year. Our goal is a $1,000 to buy something that the Zveza can be proud of. We would like to say that we had a hand and getting something in memory of our members. I know we can do it.
I’m sorry to report we have lost eight members this year. Deepest sympathy to the families.
I wish a speedy recovery to our members Ann Markovich, Ursula Stupnik and Mary Skradski and to any other members who haven’t notified me of illness.
Members, please bring a new candidate to our next meeting. Let it be a 100%. Good Luck.

ON THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER
we commemorate All Saints Day and on the second, All Souls Day. Let us remember them in our intercessions on that holyday. And the U.S. feasts on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28th, observing a day of general “giving thanks for what we have received.”
BUT, ON NOVEMBER 10th, we will celebrate the anniversaries of two of our most active Cleveland branches, No. 14 and No. 15. In Euclid and in Newburg, the observance will begin with Holy Mass and a banquet at which many friends and honored guests will attend. Much more than that day will be important to us as members of the Union, because behind the anniversaries lie great years of achievement for both branches. Look at their combined memberships: No. 14 has 355 adults and 38 juniors, and No. 15 has 314 adults and 65 juniors, that’s 772 members in just two suburbs of the great city of Cleveland. These circles have distinguished themselves by keeping active along the lines set by their pioneers. Whoever knows the background of No. 14 remembers the late Mrs. Frances Rupert, their organizer and president for many years, whose heart and soul went into her leadership of that great branch. And, in the last S.W.U. membership campaign, their president, Mrs. Amalia Legat took top honors in the adult department by enrolling 25 new members for her branch. Totally, their branch had 43 new members during that campaign. And the branch in Newburgh, No. 15, has never been far behind — with cooperation PLUS in every venture. They hosted the Midwest Bowling Tournament several years ago and still have a league active. The Cleveland convention delegation were their guests at a supper and social evening. Their president, Mrs. Anna Yakich is a past Supreme Officer. So—credit is due to the officers and members. Our congratulations on their past history and best wishes for continued success and progress!
EARLY IN OCTOBER, we are happy to report, a representation of Cleveland members were on a local TV program in Cleveland. Pres, of Br. No. 50, Mrs. Frances Seitz organized the event and they all had a marvelous time. Mrs. F. Salmich of Br. No. 10 was featured as an excellent lace-maker. Knowing the viewers had a chance to see their sister-members must have been a thrill for the ladies who did a nice bit of promotion for S.W.U. in their home town.
SORRY we had to omit many regular features from this edition of Zarja. The shortening of some reports was also necessary due to limited space in this 16 page issue.

From the Director of Women’s Activities
Chicago, III.—It’s been some time since I wrote about our busy doings and the summer went by very fast. We found time to organize tours among our members for trips to several nice places where we saw a variety of interesting things. We took in the Blossom Festival in Michigan, the county fairs around Illinois and the Shrine of the Seven Dolors at Valpa-riso, Ind. We had planned on many more tours, but time went by too fast.
Our Choral Club Hat Sale and the start of our Bowling league of 12 teams were our early fall activities. Bowling began on Sept. 9th at the Pilsen Bowling Lanes, with 60 girls participating every week. We are already planning the giant Midwest Tourney which will take place right here at our regular alleys on March 23rd and 24th, 1958. More information on this subject, will be published in our Zarja in the early part of 1958, and all preparations are lined up rather well as during the last week in September, on the 29th, the Midwest Bowling Association Directors met and made all official 1958 Tourney plans.
The Hat Sale took place on Sept. 21st and 22nd and it also was a lot of fun. Many ladies who have never attended such a sale should do so—because you will find many items of accessories you need. Other branches can do the same to give their treasury a boost. Write to me for details.
Those of you who are interested in securing candy for your Christmas project, the following are two names of companies offering candy at reasonable prices for you to sell: Kathryn Beick, P.O. Box 914, Bloomington, Illinois, and Earle S. Bowers Co., 3 and 5 So. Water St., Philadelphia G, Penna. Both firms deal only with church societies and organizations, and both have delicious products.

No. 7, Forest City, Pa.—We are now
over the initial shock caused by the death of little Johnny Sever, miy grandson, on Aug. 19th. The illness of 7 weeks which took his life, confined him to the Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, where he then passed away. He was only 6 years old. Our Junior circle, thus, has lost its second member in two years. William Kameen died on May 12, 1955 at the age of 12 years.
Another of our members passed away last month, Mrs. Jennie Jevnik, who is survived by her husband, Joseph, a son, Joseph, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. Robert E. Gentles and Marie, a sister, Mary, and one grandchild. Our sincere sympathy to the family.

No. 14, Euclid, Ohio.—Our October meeting had a small attendance, due to the fact that many of our members were working at the election booths. However, the members present were very enthusiastic in planning our approaching Thirtieth Anniversary. Tickets for this banquet are selling fast since many remember our last dinner and the good time they had.
On September 22, twenty-one of our members went to Warren, Ohio to help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Branch No. 54. They traveled on two chartered busses and spent a most enjoyable Sunday.
Sister Antonia Kausek’s father passed away in September. To her and the rest of the family we express our deepest sympathy.
On October 4th, our Sister Josephine Bradac, a long time memiber, also passed away. She had been bedridden for many years. To her family our deepest sympathy and may God reward her daughter who patiently took care of her during the long illness.
Sister Frances Plevnik broke her arm while stretching her clothes line. We hope it will heal soon so she can do her work as before.

The three local branches: 12, 17 and 43 are sponsoring a Mammoth Miscellaneous Card Party on Sunday, Nov. 24, 1957 at St. John’s Aud. starting at 2:00 p.m. All members from the three branches are urged to donate a $1.00 prize for this Pre-Convention Card Party. The proceeds will go to defray some Convention expenses.

Our roving treasurer, Frances Pi-woni, has not as yet returned from her trip to Europe. From reports, she is enjoying her stay.

We held our Annual Outing at the summer home of Edward Zupancich at Farm Lake.
A delicious supper and entertainment was in the charge of Barbara Brenen, Rose Ferderber, Pauline Co-larich, Jean Erchul, Angela Godec, Mary Boitz and Mary Ann Buchite. Prizes were won by Barbara Rosan-dich, Stephanie Vranesich and Molly Zupancich.
We were indeed happy when our secretary read an invitation she received from the Soudan, Minn., for their Halloween party. A chartered bus will take the members there. Will write and let you know how the party turns out; I’m quite sure it will be a lot of fun.
The committee for November will be in the charge of Mary Jamnick, Molly Krall, Angela Kosir, Florence Markaud, Amelia Mainer and Rose Lobe.
We are sorry to hear that Mary Skradski has been ill and was hos-
pitalized, but are glad to hear that she is now at home. We all wish her a speedy recovery and that she will be able to attend our meeting soon.

No. 32, Euclid, Ohio.—We had a nice attendance at our October meeting. Thanks to all who were present. We welcome two new members, Alice Črček and Phyllis Pisano.
The stork presented Rosemarie and Ray Perme with a darling little girl, who will now be company for her two sisters and brothers. Ray and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Louise Keller, also our member, operates a grocery store, the Upson' Food Store at E. 260th St.
After the meeting we celebrated the 28th anniversary of our branch and the birthdays of our members. Some who were lucky, such as: A. Grže, T. Popovič, K. Filips, P. Pisano, J. Janežič, A. Tekavec, M. Vodnicar, M. Knific and F. Perme, and the door prize went to K. Skokal. Thanks to all who donated prizes, goodies and money. Thanks also to Ann Chinchair, Ann Tekavec and her daughter, for the kitchen work and waiting on tables.

No. 34, Soudan, Minn.—On Saturday, August 17th before the 9:30 Mass commemorating their fiftieth anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Erchul renewed their marriage vows in St. Martin’s church, Tower. Celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Michael Popesh. Mrs. Frank Vesel was organist. Altar boys were James Nykanen (a grandson) and Joe Mesojedec, Jr.
The couple was married fifty years ago in the same church by the late Father Joseph Ferjančič. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Anton Erchul, now deceased.
After the Mass, a dinner was served at the Forest Hotel in Ely for the immediate family. A special gift was presented to the parents by the children in the form of an anniversary album retelling the story of their fifty years together.
Mr. and Mrs. Erchul are the parents of ten living children and one deceased; Sister Antonia, Sister Maxine and Sister Gervase, O.S.B., all of the Duluth Benedictine Community; Mrs. Floyd Nykanen (Olga), Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Robert Bizal (Frances), Chisholm; Joseph T. Erchul, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Leonard Schmidi (Margaret), Norwalk, Calif.; Mrs. Edward Dragavon (Agnes), Soudan; Mrs. John Bobence (Victoria), Ely; Benedict Erchul, Virginia; Daniel (deceased) and nineteen grandchildren.
On Sunday afternoon, August 18, a reception was held at the family home
in Soudan, with numerous friends and relatives dropping in to congratulate the honored couple. The buffet table was covered with white embroidered organdy trimmed with gold braid and ribbon. The centerpiece was a white three-tier cake flanked by gold and white candles and pink snapdragons and white shasta daisies.
Mrs. Frank Popesh, niece of Mrs. Erchul, poured. The wedding cake was served by Mrs. Charles Adkisson and Mrs. Robert Wiirre, also nieces of Mrs. Erchul. Marlene Popesh was in charge of the guest book and Margaret Popesh served the punch. Also assisting were Mrs. Wayne Passi, Mrs. Rudy Grahek (nieces of Mrs. Erohul) and Mrs. Fred Pucel.
Mr. and Mrs. Erchul are pioneer residents of Soudan, having come to Soudan in 1906 from Jugoslavia and resided here ever since. Mrs. Erchul worked for the; Oliver Mining Division for 47 years at the Soudan Mine and retired in 1953. Mrs. Erchul was honored in 1953 as Minnesota’s Slovenian “Mother of the Year” by the Minnesota Branches of the Slovenian Women’s Union.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Erchul have been and still are active in church, civic and lodge activities. Mr. Erchul is at present secretary of the Sts. Cyril and Method Lodge, an affiliate of the KSKJ and he has held this important office for the past 30 (thirty) years. Mrs. Erchul has had various offices in Sts. Peter and Paul Lodge, an affiliate of the Croatian Fraternal Union, and also in the local branch of the SWU. At present she is president of both organizations. Mrs. Erchul is also a member of the1 Altar Society, and Mr. Erchul is a member of the Catholic Men’s Club, both parish organizations.
May I again extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy life together to Mr. and Mrs. Erchul for myself and my family, and the members of Branch No. 34. May God bless you and keep you in His loving care!

Branch No. 34 met at the Catholic Men’s clubrooms on Thursday ever ning, Sept. 19, for their first meeting following the summer recess with a large attendance. After routine business was disposed of, the members voted to contribute ten dollars to the St. Ann’s Home for the Aged building fund. A new home will be built in Duluth, to replace the present one which is old and a fire hazard. Funds are being solicited throughout the Duluth Diocese at the present time so that a new structure can be started soon.
It was also decided to sell Christmas Candy as we did last year for our money-making project for the year.

had last year at the Dawn Club’s Halloween party, plans were made to extend an invitation to the Dawn Club of Ely, to a party at the Soudan School which our club will sponsor. The party will commence at 7:30 on Wednesday evening, October 23rd, at the Soudan School gymnasium. Mrs. Joseph Erchul, the president, appointed the following committees: Program,
Mmes. Edward Dragavon and Herman Mesojedec; Lunch, Mmes. John Te-kautz, Joseph Gornick, Victor Tonko and Joseph Skala; and Decorations, Mmes. Dale Peterson, Louis Zupanich, Tony Plantan, and Miss Rose Zollar.
Following the business meeting a social hour was enjoyed and those receiving prizes for “Cootie” were Mmes. Victor Tonko, John Pahula, and Rose Zollar, and for “500” Mmes. Louis Zupanich, Michael Musich and Joseph Vaida.
The evening was concluded with a delicious lunch served by the hostesses, Mmes. Ludwig Mesojedec, Nick Tekautz and Mrs. Mary Pahula.
During the summer we lost one of our Charter members, Mrs. Mary Klun who passed away in July following a heart attack. She is survived by her son Herman in Soudan, and four grandchildren. May God grant her eternal rest! Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

No. 45, Portland, Ore.—Our September meeting was an interesting one. We wished that more of our sisters were present. We all would like to express our happiness at the quick recovery made by our President, Mrs. Mary Roso, who is out of the hospital now and doing very nicely. She was confined for one month and three days. Welcome back home, Mary!
We are having a very seasonal project now, giving away a turkey on November 7th. This is intended as a fund-raising project and we hope that every member will buy one book of donations. Please give us your full cooperation, as the member who does the most in selling the donations will also receive a turkey herself!
Our Christmas party will be on December 5th, 1957. We will have a pot-luck supper, as we did last year, at Mrs. Augustina Knez’s home, 7041 N.E. 22nd Ave. Also, that night we will have elections of officers. Hope to see a lot of our members present, light from the beginning at 7 o’clock. There will also be a gift exchange, the gift being of one dollar value, not less. Our deepest sympathy to all of our members who lost loved ones.

Members! Now that I have been away all summer, it is time to settle down and start to work again. First, I want to say that I had a very enjoyable trip in Europe, but it was good to come back to the good old U.S.A. No place like home, so the saying goes! I hope to see the members at our com-
ing meetings. We have been having a nice attendance with the meetings at various members’ homes. It seems that will be the policy for awhile. No. 52, Kitzviile, Minn.—Dear Sisters! We had again the pleasure of holding our meeting at the Little Grove, it being on Oct. 3rd. At that time we presented our beloved sisters Angeline Russ and Frances Shega, with silver pins, for being such loyal members. They were our charter members and now, after twenty-five years are still going strong. They were the organizers of Branch No. 52 and we are hoping that they will stay with us for twenty-five more years. We congratulate you sisters, Angeline and Frances, and may the good Lord keep you with us until our Golden Anniversary.
We were also informed that upon request, Mrs. Mary Brank of Eveleth, Minn., will be at our next meeting to show us movies on her trip to Europe. So, try to be present and I think we will have a very enjoyable evening. Our next meeting is to be on Nov. 6th at the Little Grove. And, do bring in some new members.
In October we held our Combination Sale and it was a great success. Thank you all for taking such a great interest in the affairs of the branch and hope the good work continues on to greater things.
Our social of the evening then took place, our hostesses being: Sisters Florence Techer, Frances Rapovich, Josephine Fryckman and Katherine Adamic. Honors were awarded to sisters Josephine Oswald, Angeline I-Irovat, Rose Chiodi, Celia Palitan, Margaret Kochevar, and Frances Shega. This concluded our evening.

No. 54, Warren, Ohio.—On behalf of the members of our branch, I want to express my sincere thanks to all who made our Twenty-Fifth Anniversary such a huge success. The weeks before the Banquet were busy ones as the officers well know; but, on the day of our celebration, the huge turnout made us so happy, it will never be erased from our eyes. Our day started in the early morning with a Mass for our deceased and living members. We all received Holy Communion in a body and it was a beautiful sight to see our young mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers kneeling together at the Communion rail.
Some of our early arrivals to the banquet were our lovely Supreme President, Mrs. Livelc, Supreme Secretary, the versatile, Albina Novak, who really kept the program going, Supreme Treasurer, Mrs. Železnikar, and Frances Globokar, First Supreme Vice-President.
Also present to give the Blessing was Rev. Clarence Holter and Warren’s Chief-of-Police Manley English. Present from the city of Girard was Mayor Catone, whose wife is a member, being of Slovenian descent. — Chartered buses were in charge of Mrs. Frances Globokar and Mrs. Frances Sietz of Cleveland.
Thanks President Barbara Umeck of Niles, for selling so many tickets to members and Sec’y. Josephine Peru-shek. Thanks to Pres. Theresa Lozier, of Girard, for her good salesmanship, and to Sec’y. Helen Zupon.
I want to thank Mary Waltko, Carolyn Knezevich and Anne Savor for their untiring assistance in the preparations for the banquet. Also thanks to all the members who baked poticas, pies, etc. and helped in any way to make our day such a wonderful one.
Tribute was paid to our Charter Members who were all in attendance except Mrs. Banozich now residing in Arizona, and Mrs. Lunder who is deceased. In charge of the entire program was Anne Savor, and she played the role of a very versatile mistress-of-ceremonies.
After the last morsel of potica was devoured and our belts were loosened, we all put on our dancing shoes and gaily stepped to the music of Jack Persin, who played at our first dance twenty-five years ago. At midnight, we wearily, but happily, locked the hall door with satisfaction in our hearts that our Banquet was indeed a success.	Rose	Racher,	President
No. 55, Girard, Ohio. — Our sincere thanks to all who helped make our event of Sept. 28th, Vinska Trgatev, a success. The attendance was very, very fine and the program proved entertaining with our young members and their husbands dressed in national costume and joining in the singing. I’m certain that every member and friend who attended enjoyed herself, and we are pleased with the financial outcome. We’ve decided that in the future, we’ll have a vinska trgatev every year on the last Saturday in September. Don’t forget!
I would like to mention once again the membership campaign which will end soon. Doubtless you have friends and neighbors who are not yet members of S.W.U. and who would enjoy membership with your branch. Please try each of you, to do a little.

No. 56, Hibbing, Minn.—Our September meeting was well attended, since it was our first after a two month summer vacation. Presiding at the meeting was president, Mrs. Ann Sa-tovich. Our meeting was cut short, though, as there was such a loud microphone speaker in the club room, •everything was heard from other parts of the building. It was so loud, all we could do was to hold our heads and ears.
After the meeting a social hour was spent by those who didn’t mind the noise and the lunch served was delicious.
Some time ago, the members decided to present an altar cloth in honor of St. Therese to our church. We had it blessed on her feastday, Oct. 3rd, by Rev. Msgr. Patrick Byrnes and placed on the altar by two of our members, Angela Genac and Frances Puhek.
In August, we lost another dear sister, Mrs. Francis Kesley. May God grant her soul rest and peace.
That month we also got together and went to Virginia for Minnesota Zveza Day. We participated in the Mass at
11	a.m.. officiated by Rev. William Lutar, and the banquet which took place at one o’clock. FT. Thomas Mc-Enery gave the invocation and Mayor Vukelich welcomed us to Virginia. The dinner was delicious, although some of us had to wait until late because so many guests had to be served before us. The program was very nice. Speaker, Albina Novak, our Supreme Secretary from Chicago, stressed the importance of getting juniors to enroll. She also brought a beautiful 21-inch Slovenian doll, dressed in national costume, which brought in a nice amount for the Virginia branch’s treasury. Mrs. Mary Puhek of Hibbing had the honor of winning it and she named her “Little Mary.” When she got back home to Hibbing, Mrs. Puhek had a lot of fun showing it to all her neighbors and friends. Mrs. Novak promised that from now on, every state which celebrates a state day will have such a doll to give away. Next year, it will be in Milwaukee, for the Convention.
Mrs. Mary Theodore then presented the Minnesota “Mother of the Year”, who was Mrs. Mary Lenich, Secretary of Br. No. 19, Eveleth. She was not present to receive the honor as she was in Detroit taking care of her son’s family. The program continued with quartette and community singing and a few solos on the accordion by Miss Mary Merhar. That accordion looked like it was just made for Mary, as she swayed in rhythm with her play-
ing. Then there were remarks given by various officers and chapter presidents. In closing, we all sang songs and had a wonderful get-together. We really enjoyed this year’s state day. See you next year in Milwaukee!
Our October meeting turned out well although the weather was cold and drizzly. But, many members came anyway. President, Ann Satovich conducted the meeting and there were the usual reports and discussions. It was approved by all that we have a reunion next year of all past honored mothers of the year and present them with corsages. There will be six mothers for this tribute.
We are glad to see that Mary Mas-siclc is recovering nicely from surgery as she was with us at the meeting.
Four of our members are on the altar committee for October: Emma Petrick, Mary Meadows, Mary Putzel and Rose Chernugal.
The president also has more Christmas Cards for you who haven’t as yet picked up your supply or need more. Also, bring along your wrap-in-wax coupons to the next meeting. See you then.

No. 57, Niles, Ohio.—Now that the summer months are over and our fall months will soon be closing in on Ole Man Winter, I would like to say we’ve really enjoyed our summer months full of outdoor picnics and parties and we’ll be looking to the 1958 summer activities. Many thanks to Mary Maček for the wonderful use of her pavilion this summer.
Say members—you haven’t forgotten about our Pre-Convention Campaign, have you? You know you still have a chance to sign your friends up till the 31st of January. Why wait till then? See that our Secretary can sign her up now and give her the opportunity of meeting all her sister members at our big Christmas Party which we all look forward to celebrating. Just a few more members and we can appoint our own delegate from our wonderful branch. If you’d like to take a few days vacation from your home chores, we’ll, maybe you might be the lucky one to become a delegate to represent our branch from Niles, Ohio at this Convention held in Milwaukee, Wis. in May of 1958.
Remember too, that for securing new members you can also win yourself Cash Awards. We all love these kind of awards, don’t we???
Sorry to hear we have two of our dear members in the hospital. They are Mrs. Mary Stancher in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, and Mrs. Mary Globucar in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. I presume it will be some time before they will be up and around so why not drop them a card, wishing them the speediest recovery. We all know that in a hospital, the days never seem to end and we can make their
days roll by much faster if we send them cards to cheer them.
Now for a little bit of happier reading: Congratulations! It’s a boy! Isn’t that wonderful? Oh, yes, I forgot to tell you whose! The proud mother is our dear little member, Jennie Novak, who has been with our branch for many years now and her wonderful mother, now grandmother, is none other than Mrs. Jennie Logar. Mrs. Logar is our branch’s mother with most children and if I recall correctly, they are all with us in the S.W.U. Congratulations, again!
Want to really do yourself a good deed and make one of our members happy? Then, just send a “Cheery” greeting to this dear member of our branch, Mrs. Anna Saula, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Louisville, Ohio. Need I say more than this is the Catholic Home for the Aged. Mrs. Saula hasn’t been at too many of our meetings in the last couple of years,—but all I’d like to say is, when your loved ones leave to join our Heavenly Father— and your Golden Years have passed —"A Friend in Need is your Friend Indeed.” Thanks, I know this will please her more than anything else in the world.

No. 66, Canon City, Colo. — Branch of Canon City, Colorado, held its quarterly meeting September 8, 1957, at Dremel’s Hall.
Mrs. Sustarcic, Mrs. Slack, and Mrs. Dremel, were reported ill. Best wishes are extended for a quick recovery.
Plans for a Christmas Party were made. It will be a family affair on Sunday, December 1, 1957, in Dremel’s Hall. Each member will be responsible to furnish enough sandwiches for her family, plus a cake or potica, etc. The hat will be passed at the party to pay for the drinks.
A good time is ahead for all in the way of dancing, singing, eating, and so forth. Help to make this an enjoyable affair by marking your calendar on Sunday, December 1, 1957, “Reserved for Branch No. 66 Christmas Party.”
Kathryn Ann Penny, juvenile new member, was accepted.
Meeting was adjourned with prayer and turned over to the hostesses: Mesdames Stražišar, Kozek, Chesnik, Lukezic, and Lukeman.

Our combined meeting and wiener roast for the September meeting was very well attended. The roasted corn, wieners and delicious pastries were enjoyed by all. Our annual birthday dinner was discussed but no definite arrangements were made.
Gloria Yane, daughter of past president Anne Yane, was married on August 24, to Cornelius Howe, Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind. They were married at 11:00 a.m. in St. Pius X church at Bedford. Following a reception at Milner Reception Hall the couple left for New York State and Canada, where they will spend their honeymoon. The couple will make their home in Indianapolis. Best wishes and good luck to the happy couple.
Congratulations to Helen Rusnor and Genevieve Attinatta on the birth of baby boys.

No. 74, Ambridge, Pa.—It’s my pleasure to greet you once again, and I enjoy doing so, as I enjoy doing many things. There is not too much activity in our branch this year, but, we do want to send our congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kulisek, who were married on Aug. 29th. Mrs. Kulisek was the former Sophie Tekstar, Jr. Best of luck, health and happiness. The bride and her mother are our members.
And, congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John and Mary Uhernick, a baby boy—to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Jennie Rosenberger, a baby girl—to Mr. and Mrs. Orvie and Frances Roden-heaver from Detroit, Mich., a baby boy and to Mr. and Mrs. Martin and Eleanor Habich, a baby boy. To all parents, and their new arrivals, wishes for health and happiness.

No. 95, So. Chicago, III.—With vacations and other summer plans of the members, we didn’t have much to report; but, now we are getting into the swing of things again.
We had a candy drive the last two months and sold 288 lbs. of candy. Thanks to our ways and means chairman, Evelyn Ashenbrenner. In the next few days, members will be receiving donation booklets and we hope you will return them as soon as possible. Our annual Christmas Party will be on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 7 p.m.
at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, 96th and Exchange Ave. The awards are: a dacron comforter and beautiful doll. The chairman for this year’s party will be Mrs. Ann Sertich and co-chairmen are Mrs. Martha Brezic, and Ann Nagoda. We’ll have a dollar grab-bag for adult members. Our regular yearly meeting will be on Wednesday, Dec. 4th at the church hall, beginning at 7 p.m. This will be a very important meeting and we hope you will all make an effort to attend.
We would like to wish a speedy recovery to Mrs. Florence Cuzella, Sr. Also, a sincere expression of sympathy to Mrs. Mary Marianovich on the loss of her father, John Zaborac.

For Sisters Frances Oblock, Clara Antonelli and Mary Peterneli who have been ill, we wish them better health.
Sister Julia Starman and her husband, Stanley, were severely injured in an automobile collision at Sturgis, So. Dakota. When we last heard from them, they were in Thermopolis, Wyo. on their slow way to recovery.
Sister Katarina R. Peternel from Center is also recovering from an operation on her eyes, and we hope she shall regain her eyesight soon.
My mother, Agatha Mozina, and I wish to thank each and every person who helped to make our pilgrimage to Lemont so beautiful and rewarding again this year.
Congratulations, Mary and Frank Bahor! Those new twin boys are ever so nice.

No. 100, Fontana, Calif.—It is with extreme pleasure that I write the news of our newly formed branch here in Fontana, especially so, since I derive great pleasure in reading about people I know in the Zarja.
The recent success of our Card Party exceeded all expectations and it was very gratifying to hear the financial report.
What better opportunity than this, to thank all the members who donated so generously of gifts, time, effort, and I’m not forgetting those lovely ladies who baked the super-delicious strudel (I had 2 pieces).
It could not have been such a grand success as our first attempt to promote funds if it were not for unity. We have members who far-supercede their just duty to an organization, such a member is Mrs. George May-zak, in whose home our meetings are held. We were indeed very grateful to her.
Our president, Mrs. Jacqueline May-zak is a go-getter and she is supported by a competent group of officers; a strong indication of the above is in the plans that are now in progress for a fish fry that will be held in the near future and a Masquerade Ball that will take place in February of the coming year. No. 105, Detroit, Mich.—We had a
wonderful meeting at Mrs. Jos. Zimmerman’s home at Grosse Point, Mich.. She really gave us a hearty welcome and entertained us royally. Although it was a very rainy day, we didn’t even notice the weather in the sunny atmosphere created by the friendly group. We thank you, Mary, for all your hospitality.
The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Jos. Vidmar. I hope we-will have at least as many present as we did at Mrs. Zimmerman’s. Last month, Mrs. Julia Zrimec made a trip to Ohio, but, hers also was a sad trip as it was to the funeral of a relative. Please accept our deepest sympathy.
Our President, Julia Panzica and I, made a trip to Wisconsin to visit friends and relatives. Even though it was a short stay, we managed to have-a nice visit.
A reminder again, ladies, to bring in some new members. It will be more interesting working together and a lot more enjoyable with a larger group. Work is also promised us if we are to have our party. The more ladies we have, the less work falls on a few shoulders. The next few meetings will be important ones, so, let’s work for a successful campaign in our branch and toward a successful party, too.
We heard that Alice Kocjan, accompanied by our secretary, Katherine Music, went to Warren, Ohio to visit relatives. Hope they had a good time.

ZDRAVNIKI trdijo, da je smeh polovica zdravja. A kako malo časa imamo danes za smeh. Vsak je „bizi”; vse nekam hiti in drvi, in vendar je za naše zdravje potrebno, da se v svojem diru včasih ustavimo, se sprostimo ter uživamo življenje, lei nam je namenjeno. Koliko manj družinskih prepirov bi bilo, če bi ljudje našli vsak dan vsaj pet minut za smeh. Koliko lepih ur v življenju prinese vesel nasmeh in prijazna beseda!
V	zdravniški knjigi berem, da smeh povzroča tresenje trebušne mrene, kar pospeši boljši obtok krvi in prepreči poapnenje žil, kar je vzrok marsikatere prezgodnje smrti. Tudi proti duševnim boleznim je vesel človek zavarovan in veliko bolj odporen kot tisti, ki za vsakim plotom vidi nesrečo, povsod najde dlako v jajcu in iz vsake muhe naredi konja.
Dva jetnika sta zrla skozi zamrežena okna svoje celice. Prvi je videl blato na cesti, drugi pa zvezde na nebu. Kateremu je bilo lepše pri srcu?

Imam prijateljico v Pittsburghu, ki je vkljub svojim številnim letom še vedno dobre volje. Brati njena pisma, polna humorja, je pravi užitek.
„Še nikdar nisem bila v bolnišnici in tudi ne iskala zdravnika,” piše. „Letos me je pa tako prijelo, da nisem mogla dihati. Že sem mislila, da bo treba Bogu Očetu reči
—	dobro jutro, a moj čas menda še ni prišel. Hčerka je poklicala zdravnika, ki mi je vsa ta boljša jedila prepovedal, kot: šunko, klobase, pork čapse ... Če se bom pazila in teh jedil ne uživala, bom baje še dolgo živela. To je vse prav, a brez teh jedil sem kot avto brez gasolina..

Pred sodnika je jezno stopila gospa s tožbo, da je bila od nekega moža na postaji nadlegovana. Sodnik je vprašal obtoženca za pojasnilo.
Obtoženec: „Zmotil sem se, gospod sodnik. Iskal sem prijateljico moje žene, katere nisem videl še nikdar. Žena je rekla, da je njena prijateljica mlada, lepa, prikupne zunanjosti, vitke rasti in dobro oblečena. Ta gospa je do pičice podobna, zato ..
Gospa: „Če je tako, potem prosim, gospod sodnik, da se mladega moža oprosti. Vsak bi lahko napravil tak pogrešek.”

Kmet s hribov je prišel prvikrat v belo Djubljano, kjer je videl hiše z več nadstropji, kar se mu je jako čudno zdelo. Ko je prišel domov, je pričel pripovedovati: „Oj, ljudje božji, kaj sem videl! Hiša na hiši in še ena gor viš.”

MESEČNA POSLANICA GLAVNE PREDSEDNICE
Drage odbornice in članice:
Pojdimo takoj k važni točki, ki je PREDKONVENČNA' ČLANSKA KAMPANJA. Štirje meseci so potekli, toda zaenkrat se še ne moremo pohvaliti z uspehi, zato naj vsaka premisli, kaj je osebno doslej storila v tem pogledu. Ali smo vedno poskušale kaj storiti za SŽZ? Ali smo uporabile vsako dano priliko, da smo skušale pridobiti novo članico? Kako bomo drugače dosegle svoj cilj: 1000 novih članic do konvencije? Takoj moramo na delo in dokazati, da znamo pridobiti ljudi za našo organizacijo. Ne smemo se zanašati na druge. Torej zares pričnimo.
Lepa darila so razpisana in najbolj marljive delavke bodo ČASTNE DELEGATKE na konvenciji leta 1958. Poleg tega bodo obdarjene in imele plačano vožnjo v kon-venčno mesto. Upamo, da se bo odslej naš „č!anski toplomer” naglo dvignil.
PROSLAVA OBLETNICE PODRUŽNICE ŠT. 54 V WARREN, OHIO, JE LEPO USPELA.
Dne 22. sept. je bila dvojna proslava v bližini Clevelanda. Dopoldne je bila slovesna otvoritev nove farne dvorane pri Sv. Vidu. Mrs. Pauline Stampfel, predsednica pod. št. 25 je spremljala gl. tajnico Mrs. Albino Novak in mene po vseh modernih prostorih dvorane, ki je v resnici krasna ter nudi vse moderne možnosti delovanja za faro. Fr. Bazniku in župljanom veljajo čestitke k podjetnosti.
Popoldne smo se s polnimi avtobusi naših članic odpeljale v Warren, Ohio, kakih 50 milj daleč, kjer smo prišle pravočasno za banket. Velika množica se je zbrala v Slovenskem domu in vse je bilo brezhibno organizirano: okusna večerja, lep program in govori. Sestri Rose Racher in Helen Tomažič, ustanoviteljici te odlične podružnice, sta izgledali luštni in srečni, ko sta se spominjali doseženih uspehov v zadnjih 25 letih. Sestra Rose Racher je predsednica od ustanovitve ter je tudi bivša gl. odbornica. Gotovo je srečna, da ima v svojih vrstah podružnice tako zveste sodelavke, kar se je pokazalo na ta dan. Po mojem opazovanju je med članicami v Ohio veliko tesnih vezi in pripravljenosti priskočiti na pomoč v vseh sestrskih delih. Ravnajo se po resnični prislovici: „V slogi je moč.” PRISRČNA HVALA, WARREN, OHIO! Vso srečo, zdravje in božji blagoslov! Moja iskrena zahvala Mrs. Stampfel za izkazano gostoljubnost na njenem domu.
Pogosto se sliši, da so najbolj srečni tisti ljudje, ki radi prepevajo. Slovenci smo znani zaradi svoje ljubezni do narodnih pesmi. Pevski zbor podr. št. 2 iz Chicaga je izdal novo ploščo osmih lepih slovenskih pesmi. Kupite jo za $3.50. Prav tako morete sedaj kupiti žepno pesmarico najbolj priljubljenih slovenskih narodnih pesmi ter poznanih ameriških popevk in himn za $1.00 v glavnem uradu Slov. Ženske Zveze.
Dne 28. nov. bo ZAHVALNI DAN. Bodimo hvaležne za vse blagoslove, katerih smo deležne in poskušajmo tudi v bodoče kaj storiti za narod. V petek, dne 1. nov., bo praznik VSEH SVETIH.

Prepričana sem, da govorim v imenu omenjenih, če rečem, da bi bile najbolj vesele darila v obliki prošenj NOVIH ČLANIC!

Št. 1, Sheboygan, Wis. — Naša kartala zabava se je dobro obnesla ter blagajni prinesla lep dobiček. Sprejet je foil predlog, da bo zanaprej to naša letna prireditev. Toraj:	vsako	leto.
zadnjo sredo meseca septembra, bo podružnica imela kartno zabavo.
Zahvalimo se načelnici zabave sestri Mary Turk, ki se je res zelo potrudila, da je vse lepo uredila. Naša zalivala sestri Matzdorf za lepe ročno izdelane dobitke ter vsem ostalim dobrim članicam, ki so pri delu pomagale, prodajale tikete in darovale razne stvari, ker bi drugače ne bil dobiček tako lep.
Darila, namenjena za prodane listke v knjižicah, se bodo oddala na letni seji meseca decembra.
Članice so izrazile svojo zadovoljnost, ker zdaj dobivajo Zarjo pričetkom meseca, toraj pred našo sejo. Priznanje sestri urednici, ki se je v tem oziru potrudila!
Po seji smo praznovale rojstni dan nekaterih naših članic. Mnoge so darovale razne dobrote, s katerimi so nas pogostile. Vesel rojstni dan vsem, ter mnogo sreče in zdravja v prihodnjosti!

Št. 2, Chicago, III. — Penny Social.
Enkrat na leto se namesto redne seje vrši takozvani Penny Social, da podružnica na ta način zbere potrebni denar za mladinsko božičnico. Ta zabavni večer se bo vršil v četrtek, dne
14. novembra, v navadnih prostorih z začetkom ob pol 8. uri zvečer. Tajnica Mrs. Muller bo ves večer na razpolago za pobiranje asesmenta, kar naj vzamejo na znanje posebno tiste, ni nimajo časa priti vsak mesec na sejo. Pripeljite s seboj prijateljice, ki se zanimajo za našo Zvezo in bi želele pristopiti k podružnici.

Št. 3, Pueblo, Colo. — Ko bomo prejele Zarjo, bosta praznik Vseh svetnikov in Vernih duš dan že za nami. Na ta žalostni jesenski dan obiščemo grobove naših pokojnih na božji njivi. Spominjamo se naših članic, ki so nas zapustile, sorodnikov in znancev. — Moje misli pohitijo posebno na grobove prerano umrlih sina in hčerke, staršev in brata. Dne 5. nov. bo 14. obletnica, ko so se zaprla groba vrata za pokojnim sinom Johnom. Bodi posvečen vsem blag spomin!
Dne 5. nov. je rojstni dan glavne tajnice Albine Novak. — Draga Albina, postala si za eno leto starejša in največje veselje vedno najdeš v krogu iskrenih prijateljic, katerih imaš zelo veliko na vseh straneh. Vse to so ne samo moje želje, temveč sleherne članice naše Zveze: Bog Te ohrani z nami še mnogo let!
Mr. in Mrs. Frank Grahek sta na
15. sept. obhajala 50-letnico ali zlato poroko. Mrs. A. Grahek, ki je naša članica, čestita naša podružnica (po-
sebno jaz) z željo: Bog daj Vama včakati še diamantno poroko v zdravju in veselju. Omenjena prav rada pomaga z denarnimi prispevki v našo blagajno. Hvala Ti!
Naša priljubljena članica Mary Stravje se je v spremstvu hčerke M. Prijatel preselila v Midway Motel Hwy. 93, Caliente, Nevada. Zet Mrs. Stravje, A. Prijatel bo tam obratoval lastni motel (hišice za prenočišče). Kadar potujete po Nevadi, obiščite omenjeni motel. Posebno Mrs. Baro Kramer vabijo, ker ona se pogosto nahaja v Nevadi (good luck, Mrs. Kramer!). Sestra Stravje je pridno pomagala za našo blagajno in bila priljubljena med nami, zato ji vse želimo mnogo razvedrila in zdravja. Ravno ob času selitve jo noga zelo boli — vzrok je, ker je nesrečno stopila doma v hiši. Zbogom setra Stravje in še kdaj na svidenje.
Dne 15. sept. smo imeli farni poslovilni večer z banketom za odhodnico pomožnega župnika Rev. Claude Roberts, ki je bil premeščen na faro v Long Mont, Colo. Father Claude je bil zelo priljubljen in je prejel veliko daril v zahvalo in prijaznost. Naše mlade članice so okrasile mize s cvetlicami ter nanosile dobra in okusna jedila. Tudi podružnica je poklonila svoj dar.
V	Canon City, se je meseca avgusta vršila konvencija Zapadne Slovanske Zveze. Udeležila sem se banketa in se sešla ter govorila z gl. odborniki in delegati in prijatelji. Pozdravila sem tajnico A. Svigel, od podr. št. 63. in sestro Frances Jeršin ter Antonio Tomle iz Clevelanda. Hvala Johani Pavchek za spremstvo, Josephu Ponikvar. mali vnukinji M. Krajc (ena je bila z njimi, za katero mi pa ime ni znano) — vsi ti so bili delegatje. Ker so poznani v Pueblo, so tudi mene obiskali. Zelo sem bilo ponosna na obisk, posebno rada sem videla M. Krajc. Le še pridite!
Naše sožalje družinam prerano umrlih Frances Dremel, kateri je umrl soprog, in Dominick Zakrajšek, ki žaluje za umrlo ženo. — Ceciliji Bradish je umrl brat v Clevelandu, Ohio. Naj v miru počivajo.
Tukajšnja Slovenska radio ura pod vodstvom Mr. John Butkovicha priredi dne 5. nov. jesenski koncert v City Hall Auditorium. Pevci in pevke se dobro pripravljajo, da nam bodo podali več zelo lepih točk. Začetek točno ob pol 3. uri popoldne.
Frank in Mrs. Kogovšek sta srečna in od Boga blagoslovljena starša, ker si je sin Frankie izbral duhovniški poklic. Vpisal se je v St. Thomas Seminary v Denver, Colo., kjer je začetek 8-letnega učenja za duhovna. God bless you, Frankie!
Vem, da ni prezgodaj, če vas povabim na glavno sejo 4. decembra. Znano vam je, da se na glavni seji voli novi odbor. Prosim, da si izvolite tiste, s katerimi boste zadovoljne, ker le tako je potem lepo in veselo na sejah. Posebno predsednica se naj izvoli, da bo vešča obeh jezikov: slovenskega in angleškega. Tajnica opominja tiste, katere dolgujejo asesment, da poravnajo svoj dolg do decemiber-ske seje. Ne pozabite na nove članice, katere bomo sprejele na decem-berski seji.

št. 10, Cleveland (Collinwood), O.— Šivalni krožek.—Začele smo z rednimi šivalnimi sestanki. Zbirale se bomo zopet vsak torek v navadnih prostorih in vabim vse članice, da bi se nam pridružile. Od sedaj naprej bodo dolgi večeri in človek se vsega naveliča. Kako je lepo, ko se zbiramo skupaj; vsaka ima nekaj povedati in tudi kaj koristnega ukrenemo v prid podružnice. Več nas bo, tem več bomo lahko naredile, saj pravi pregovor: V slogi je moč! Posebno apeliram na članice, ki živijo okoli Slov. doma na Holmes ave., kjer ne rabijo nobene transpor-tacije, samo malo dobre volje. Pri tem se boste še malo sprehodile po večerji, kar vam bo tudi dobro storilo.
Naša blagajničarka M. Zallar je prestala nevarno operacijo na očeh. Sedaj se nahaja doma in zdravje se ji počasi vrača. Zahvaljuje se vsem prijateljicam in članicam za obiske, darila, cvetlice in kartice in se priporoča še za nadaljne obiske. Vse ji želimo hitrega okrevanja in da bi zopet prišla med nas, kakor tudi vsem drugim bolnim sestram.
Tudi smrt nam ne prizanaša. Izgubile smo zadnji mesec dve članici, in sicer Mary Videtič in pa Mary Pugel. Bog jima daj večni mir.

Št. 14, Euclid, Ohio. — Poročilo seje dne 1. oktobra. Ta večer je bila pičla udeležba. — Tiketi za prireditev 30-letnice dne 10. novembra. Le sezite po njih hitro, kateri jih še nimate. Tudi lep program bo na ta večer: petje in govori ter ustanoviteljce bodo predstavljene. Kosilo se začne servirati od 5. ure dalje. Godba bo pričela ob 8. uri. Tiste članice, ki ne pridete na seje, morete videti, da gre pri našemu društvu kar lepo naprej. Naša predsednica je res odlična gospodarica. „Good time” blagajna še ni bila nikoli tako visoka kot je sedaj. Še se bomo zabavali. Saj čas tako hitro teče naprej. Vse moramo tako hiteti, pa bomo še gotovo kaj zamudili, predno se podamo v večnost.
Pristopile so zopet tri nove članice, za njih imena pa še ne vem.
Posebnih novic ni bilo na tej seji, zato se je naglo končala.

—	Zopet poročam žalostno novico, da je umrla članica Anna Papeš, iz Reno ave. Naše sožalje soprogu in sorodnikom. Tako vidite, drage sestre, se število naših članic čedalje bolj krči. Ali bi ne bilo lepo, če bi se zavzele in malo poagitirale za novimi članicami, da bi tako napolnile izpraznjena mesta naših umrlih članic.
Naše sožalje tudi družini Kreševič nad izgubo prerano umrlega soproga in očeta. Mrs. Kreševič je naša dobra članica.

KIJC KONVENČNE KAMPANJE
Nahajamo se v času kampanje, ki se hitro približuje h koncu. Tako, drage sestre gl. odbornice in krajevne uradnice in sploh vse članice SŽZ, vprašajmo se, če smo kaj napravile v korist te kampanje. Če ne, potem to storimo takoj.
Dne 19. decembra obhaja Zveza svoj rojstni dan. Ob takih slovesnostih se vedno radi spominjamo svojih dragih s kakšnim darilom. Zato vem, da če pridobiš eno novo članico, potem Ti je Zveza pri srcu in da ceniš delo naših pionirk. Ako je naša želja, da bi bila ta kampanja uspešna, potem se podajmo vse skupno na delo za večjo in močnejšo edino našo Žensko organizacijo. Posebno je moja želja, da bi podr. št. 2 dosegla lep uspeh. Kampanja traja do 31. januarja 1958.

Št. 16, So. Chicago, III.-—Drage sestre! Kampanja je v polnem teku za nove članice. Vse na delo, vsaka vsaj eno novo članico v tej predkonvenčni kampanji. Naredimo to veselje naši gl. preds. Mrs. Josephine Livek. Njeno geslo je: 1,000 novih članic v tej kampanji. Ako združimo naše moči, pa jih bo. Poglejmo mične nagrade, ki so obljubljene za nove članice. (Katera dobi 50 novih članic, dobi od mene eno lepo bakso kolačkov.)
Pa ne samo to. ozrimo se še na dušno stran, ko katera članica umre, gremo molit sv. rožni venec ter dodamo še tri očenaše in tri češčene-marije za vse umrle članice in tudi poskrbimo za nosilke krste.
Kaj pa Zarja? Ta je sama toliko vredna, kolikor plačamo asesmenta. In še to, da se družimo na sejah, ki so jako razvedrilne, nekatere naše članice komaj čakajo, da je zopet seja in takrat se razvedrimo.
Imam tudi žalostno novico, da smo izgubile zopet eno članico, Mrs. Novak, katera je stanovala že mnoga leta v Chicago Hgts. Še v juliju sva bili skupaj v Lemontu na Zvezinem dnevu, in ni bilo videti, da je kaj bolna, tako je bila vesela in dobre volje. Rekla je: „Kako je fletno, da vsaj enkrat na leto skupaj pridemo, da se kaj pogovorimo.” Bog ji bodi plačnik, preostalim pa naše iskreno sožalje. „Križ nam sveti govori, da se snidemo nad zvezdami.”

Št. 18, Cleveland, Ohio. — Zadnje seje so bile dobro obiskane, čeravno je bilo precej toplo vreme. Saj ni nobeni žal, ker imamo zmeraj malo zabave. Žal nam je bilo, ker se avgustove seje ni mogla udeležiti bivša tajnica naše podružnice sestra Josephine Praust. Prišla je z možem obiskat sorodnike in prijatelje v Cleveland, pa je zbolela po nekaj dneh tukajšnjega bivanja, tako da se še danes ne počuti dobro. Vse članice naše podružnice Vam želimo, draga sestra Praust, skorajšnjo vrnitev ljubega zdravja!
Leto se bliža h koncu, zato prosim vse članice, katere še niso poravnale asesment za to leto, da to čimprej storijo.
Lepa hvala Mrs. Jos. Praust za lep dar v blagajno, Mrs. Leni Tekaučič pa za lepo število „tax” znamk.

Št. 20, Joliet, III. — Na zadnji seji podružnice je bila dobrodošlica ali "Welcome Home Party” za tri članice, katere so se vrnile iz domovine, in te so: Jennie Smrekar, Mihaela Maren in Mary Šinkovec. Med sejo je vsaka pripovedovala svoje doživljaje v domovini in na potovanju. Mnogo smo se nasmejale na račun njih izkušenj. Zraven je ponovila svoje doživljaje članica Jennie Benedik, katera se je tam nahajala lansko leto. Seja je bila prav živahna in imele smo prigrizek ter sladoled, ki se je prav dobro prilegel. Za nameček so članice našega pevskega zbora pod vodstvom dir. Jennie Sprengel zapele nekaj pesmi. Najbolj se mi je dopadla prekrasna pesem ..Domovina, mili kraj”. Pri tej pesmi sem opazila ne samo pri meni, ampak tudi pri drugih navzočih solze v očeh.
Zadnje seje se ni udeležila tajnica Frances Gaspich, kajti istega dne je ležal na mrtvaškem odru brat John Gaspich. Pokojni zapušča poleg hčerke in sina tudi mater, več sester in bratov. Odbornice podružnice so se udeležile pogreba.
Umrl je tudi Daniel Maloney, soprog Agnes Maloney. Zapušča hčerko in ženo. Pokojni je bilo dobro znan v Jo-lietu ter zaposlen mnogo let v knjigarni (Book Shop). Njegova žena, roj. Bučar, je naša članica in je imela svoj dom v Clevelandu, predno se je pred več leti naselila v Jolietu. Po poklicu je bolniška strežnica. Pokojni Daniel je bil veteran. Poleg svoje družine zapušča več bratov in sester. — Naj oba John Gaspich, kakor Dan Maloney, počivata v miru božjem. Preostalim družinam naše sožalje.
Naša podružnica bo letos zopet sodelovala pri cerkvenem „Card Party” na tretjo nedeljo v novembru v cerkveni dvorani, na N. Chicago cesti. Članice ste naprošene, da prinesete denar za vstopnice in številke za dobitke (prizes) naši tajnici Frances Gaspich pred sejo ali pa v dvorano na isti dan. Dalje ste vse vabljene, da pridete na to prireditev, ker je čisti dobiček namenjen za opremo sobe v
ospredju cerkve ali St. Anne’s Chapel.

Grenchur, kateri so dobili punčko; s tem je postala naša odbornica Theresa Muhich stara mama. — Kartice z željo za zdravje Mrs. Wm. Cox in Teresiji Pavnica. — Članici F. Št. 21, Cleveland (West Park), O.—
Oktoberska seja je bila zelo povoljna. Posebno je bila vesela predsednica in si je štela v posebno čast, da jo je obiskala glavna tajnica Mrs. Albina Novak. To je bilo res izredno presenečenje.
Vse sestre prav veselo čestitamo naši Ančki Palcic, ki je postala prvič stara mati, ko so pri mladih kupili sina. Mladi mamici in novorojenčku želimo ljubega zdravja.
Zelo bolna je sestra Roza Kovač, ki se nahaja v bolnišnici; na bolniški postelji pa sta Ivana Zalar in Rozi Jasel.
Dne 30. sept. je minulo eno leto, odkar nas je za vedno zapustila sestra Lucija Tomažič. Njene hčere Anna, Mary, Cilka in sinova Jožef in James še vedno žalujejo za ljubo mamo. Kličemo jim; Ne žalujte, saj sv. križ nam govori, da vidimo se nad zvezdami! — Danes je roženvenslta nedelja in na radiju so molili sv. rožni venec, priporočali so nam, da skupno opravljamo to molitev, kakor je želja Fatimske Matere božje.
Ta mesec bodo obhajale, svoje rojstne dneve sestre: Hosta st. in mlajša in Teresa Lah. Vsem srečo in zdravja! Bolna je tudi Mary Augustincic, ter ji želimo, da se hitro pozdravi in vrne med nas.
Sedaj nas naša Albina zopet opominja in ravno tako tudi Marie Pris-land, da je v teku kampanja za nove članice, torej pojdimo na delo, da bo uspeh zagotovljen in bo bolj veselo, ko bomo imele več novih članic.
Vabim vas, da se številno udeležite, seje, ker bo sestra Hosta prinesla lep dar. Zbogom!

Št. 24, La Salle, III, — Naša seja v oktobru je bila še precej dobro obiskana. Na seji so članice sklenile, da bomo imele Christmas Gift Exchange za 50$ na decemberski seji, ki bo v ponedeljek, 2. decembra zvečer ob 7. uri. Ker se že zopet leto poslavlja od nas, veste, da pridejo volitve pri vseh društvih in ravno tako je pri nas. Upam, da boste vse prišle in si izvolile odbor za bodoče leto, da boste vse zadovoljne z odbornicami. Tudi želim, da bi pripeljale vaše prijateljice ali vaše hčere v našo podružnico, ker smo v predkonvenčni kamipanji. Sedaj so bolj hladni dnevi in upam, da se bo več naših članic udeležilo seje. Posebno tiste, katere ste zaostale s svojim asesmentom, pridite gotovo in poravnajte, ker ročna blagajna je izčr-
pana in jaz ne morem poslati denar, če ga ne plačate. Tudi je konec leta in bo treba dati knjige nadzornicam v pregled, zato morajo biti v redu. Pridite vse na decembersko sejo in seveda tudi na novembersko. Pazite na naš buletin v lokalnem časopisu in na radijsko naznanilo, da boste vedele za pravi čas.
V	bolnišnici so se nahajale: Anna Derganc, Frances Gregorčič in Clara Petrovski. Želimo jim hitrega okrevanja.
Teta štorklja je povasovala pri članici Al in Ana Stahovjak ter jima pustila hčerko. Želimo materi in mali hčerki ljubega zdravja. Upam, da bo postala naša članica.

Št. 25, Cleveland, Ohio. — Naša prireditev, ko smo praznovale 29-letnico s Card party, v cerkveni dvorani, je še precej dobro izpadla. Lahko bi bila še boljša udeležba, ako bi se nekatere članice malo bolj zanimale za svoje društvo, kadar se gre za splošno društveno pomoč, ker to je za vse enako. Je potreba za vence, avtomobile in za več članic zalagati, zato, kadar Vas vabimo, da se odzovete vabilu, pridite vse. Zahvala vsem, ki ste prišle in sestram, ki so listke prodajale. Zahvala tistim, ki so darovale in delale za dobitke, te so: Mrs. Stampfel, ki je dala vse blago za posteljno pregrinjalo, in Mrs. Nousok, ki ga je naredila; Mrs. Brancel in hčerkam Mrs. Cerar in Mrs. Vidmar, ki so našile več parov ,,povštrov” ali prevlek za blazine, brisače, več prtičkov (sets) za na zofe in stole, predpasnikov in več dragih stvari; Mrs. Strniša in Mrs. Bizjak za šal; Mrs. Kromar, Mrs. Kalister za povštre in „dresser set”; prt za na mizo, Mrs. Mahne; Mrs. Amigoni za lepe povštre, katere je že prej darovala. Ako sem katero ime izpustila, pa me opomnite in bom drugič popravila. Zahvala vsem tistim, ki ste pomagale pri prireditvi. Mr. Žabkar, Mr. Sihera, ki sta nam šli na roke in pomagali; Mrs. Farrell, Mrs. Cerar, Mrs. Vidmar, Mrs. Brinovec in vsem uradnicam.
Vabim Vas na prihodnjo sejo, da boste slišale poročilo o računu.
Prosim vas, da vsaka pripelje eno novo članico. Potrudimo se, da bo naša podružnica na prvem mestu. To je naša Predkonvenčna kampanja in več kot polovico časa je že minilo. Dajte se v tem času malo potruditi. Nagrade so lepe, samo dobrih delavk potrebujemo. Žene in dekleta smo lahko ponosne, da imamo svojo organizacijo, Slovensko Žensko Zvezo.
Naša blagajničarka, ki že 17 let vrši ta urad, in njen soprog Mr. in Mrs. Anton Strniša, bosta praznovala na 3. nov. letos zlato poroko v novi dvorani sv. Vida, s sv. mašo ob 8. uri zjutraj. Ob tej priliki jima že sedaj želimo, da bi dočakala tudi biserno poroko, ker sta še oba čila in zdrava.
O	tej zlati poroki bom še pozneje poročala.
Prosim vas, drage sestre, da redno plačujete svoj asesment. Ne pričakujte, da bom hodila po hišah pobirat, ker sem postala „premlada”. To je vendar vaša dolžnost, da poskrbite, da je plačano. Leto se približuje h koncu.
Naša urednica Mrs. Corinne Leskovar se je prav dobro postavila s svojim plesalnim klubom na televiziji. Prav dobro ste napravili, le še pridite!
Vsem našim članicam, ki so na bolniški listi, želimo ljubega zdravja in da bi se čimprej vrnile na seje.

Št. 29, Browndale, Pa.—Najprvo pozdravljam vse članice po širni Ameriki in želim obilo uspeha in dosti novih članic. Tukaj v Forest City je bolj malo zaslužka. Žene ali dekleta še dobijo, ali za fante in može ga pa ni. Sedaj prihaja hladna jesen in ptički se selijo v tople kraje. Tudi naša soseda Mrs. Jereb je šla v Florido. Po njo je prišla hčerka, pa hajdi v karo in greš z nami. — Ravno tako je Mrs. Purgrčar odšla v Cleveland k hčerkam in sinovom za čez zimo. V naši vasi nas je ostalo zelo malo. Nekaj jih boleha, Mrs. Grčman še tudi ni doma, je pri hčeri.
Teta štorklja se pridno oglaša in Mrs. Jaklič je postala stara mama, ko so pri hčeri dobili sinčka. Bog daj vsem skupaj zdravja.
Hvala vsem, ki ste se zbrale na prvi ponedeljek v tolikem številu. Prosim, da pridete tudi v decembru, da bom knjige prebrala in bomo vse vedele, koliko smo v tem letu porabile denarja.	Mary	Pristavec
St. 32, Euclid, Ohio. — Oktoberska seja je bila živahna ob lepi udeležbi članic. Sprejele smo dve novi članici: Alice Crček in Phyllis Pisano. ,,Dobrodošli v našo organizacijo!” Zelo bi bilo lepo, da bi se vse članice potrudile za pridobitev novih, ker le tako bo naša Zveza ostala močna.
Štorklja je bila spet zaposlena pri naših mladih. V avgustu je Jennie Gustinčič postala petič stara mati, ko so dobili fantka pri hčeri Lilian, ki bo delal družbo dvema bratcema in sestrici. — Mary Kovach iz St. Clair Ave. je tudi zopet stara mama, ko so pri sinu Donaldu dobili drugo punčko.
—	Frances Perme je pa že šestič stara mati, ko so 30. sept. dobili punčko pri sinu Rayu in Rose Marie, ki bo postala naša članica, kot je tudi že mama in njeni dve sestrici. Sedaj imajo tri punčke in enega fantka. S tem je postala tudi Louise Kaller sedmič stara mati. — Katarina Golinar je pa že devetnajstkrat stara mama, ker so dobili na 30. sept. pri hčeri Margaret Živkovich fantka, da bo delal družbo sestrici. Čestitke vsem skupaj in Bog čuvaj nad našimi malčki.
Dne 20. sept. so pri Golinarjih obha-
jali 45-letnico poroke. Navzočih je bilo 10 otrok (trije ao umirli). Tudi me jima kličemo: Še na mnoga leta v zdravju in zadovoljstvu!
Mary Volpe se zdravi radi noge. Njej in vsem našim bolnim želimo hitrega okrevanja.
Po seji smo slavile 28-letnico obstoja naše podružnice in obhajale rojstne dneve. Pri dviganju dobitkov so bile srečne: 1. nagrado je dobila Frances Perme; 2., A. Grže; 3., T. Popovič;
4.,	K. Filips; 5., P. Pisano; 6. Josephine Janežič; 7., A. Tekavic; S., Mary Vodnicar in Mary Knific. Katarina Skokal je dobila door prize.
Razen prve nagrade so bile vse darovane od članic in zahvala gre sestram: Pavla Vrh, Teresa Potokar, Teresa Popovič, Mary Drobnič, Frances Perme, Anna Godlar in Ann Cooke. Dobrote so darovale: Ana Godlar, Mary Kolman, Barbara Baron, Teresa Popovič in Teresa Potokar. V denarju po $1.00 so prispevale: Mary Crček, Mary Erchul in Teresa Potokar. Hvala vsem, ki so pripomogle k lepemu večeru in na svidenje na prihodnji seji.
Že sedaj ste vabljene, da se udeležite decemberske ali glavne seje, ki bo 3. dec. Slišale boste poročilo o delovanju naše podružnice in izvolile odbornice za leto 1958. Po seji bo božičnica in obhajanje rojstnih dni. Imele bomo tudi izmenjavo daril, zato naj vsaka prinese praktično darilo v vrednosti enega dolarja.

Št. 31, Gilbert, Minn.—Kakor vsako leto, smo tudi letos imele Zvezin dan v Minnesoti, v mestu Virginia, to je v sredini železnega okrožja, ki se imenuje tudi Queen City. TV so se članice zbrale iz večjih mest na gostiji podr. št. 65. Nadvse smo bile vesele, ko smo zagledale naše gl. odbornice: Mrs. Josephine Livek, gl. predsednico, in Mrs. Albino Novak, gl. tajnico. Njihova navzočnost je povzdignila Zvezin dan. To je nekaj veselega, da se članice vsaj enkrat na leto pozdravijo in si obujajo spomine. Ne bom opisovala podrobnosti, ker so to že druge popisale, omenim le, da je Rev. John Sustersich imel lep govor o Mariji. Med nami je bil naš župan, rojak John Vukelich, in iz Ely je bila organistka Mary Hutar, ki vodi cerkveno petje na Ely in tako je pripeljala tri dekleta, ki so nadvse lepo pele in nazadnje z njimi vsa dvorana. Lepa hvala. Mary. Potem smo se razšle in s seboj odnesle lepe spomine. V mislih nam je že bilo drugo leto, ko bomo šle v New Duluth. Lepa hvala podr. št. 65 za gostoljubnost, ki je bila res izvrstna.
Dne 11. sept. smo imele sejo. Udeležba je bila lepa in pri seji je sestra Prosen vpisala štiri nove člance. Lepa hvala, Theresa! Seje bodo vnaprej redne, zato pridite v polnem številu. Po seji imamo zabavo.

Št. 33, New Duluth, Minn.—Jesensko vreme je tukaj in s hladno jesenjo je za vedno zaspal MATIJA POGORELEC v visoki starosti 89 let. Na zadnji poti so ga spremili njegovi sorodniki in prijatelji. Dalje časa je bil v bolnici; bil je splošno priljubljen ter je mnogo pisal dopise.
Tukaj v Novem Duluthu gradimo cerkev in naš župnik pravijo, da bo končana že do Božiča. Ženske prav dobro delamo, vsak mesec zberemo $400 in prosim, da greste na roke in pošljete kak dar naši novi cerkvi St. Elizabeth tudi od daleč.

MR. IN MRS. JOSEPH ERCHUL
Št. 34, Soudan, Minn.—V soboto, dne
17.	avgusta sta naša odlična rojaka Mr. in Mrs. Joseph Erchul slavila petdesetletnico svoje poroke. V cerkvi sv. Martina sta obnovila poročne obljube. Pri sv. maši, katero je daroval g. Fr. Michael Popesh, je stregel pri oltarju njun vnuk James Nykanen. G. Frank Vesel je lepo igral na orgle. Zlatoporočenca sta bila združena v zakonu pred 50 leti v isti cerkvi ob asistenci g. Fr. Joseph Ferjančič,
Po maši je bilo njima na čast prirejeno kosilo v Forest hotelu v Ely, in njuni otroci so jima izročili lepo darilo v obliki spominskega albuma, ki kaže njuno življenjsko pot. Mr. in Mrs. Erchul imata še devet živečih otrok ter 19 vnukov in vnukinj.
V	nedeljo popoldne, dne 18. avgusta, je bil sprejem na družinskem domu v Soudanu, kjer so se zbrali številni prijatelji in sorodniki, ki so počastili slavljenca. Ob krasno ovenčanem domu so postregli z okusnimi dobrotami.
Mr. in Mrs. Erchul sta slovenska pionirja v Soudanu, saj sta se že leta 1906 naselila v našem mestecu, kamor sta prišla iz njune rodne Slovenije ter sta vsa leta živela tukaj. Mrs. Erchul je bila zaposlena pri Oliver Mining Division v Soudanu 47 let ter je
1. 1953 stopila v pokoj. Leta 1953 je bila počaščena kot Zaslužna slovenska mati države Minnesota. Odlikovanje so ji podelile minnesotske podružnice SŽZ.
Oba, Mr. in Mrs. Erchul, sta bila in sta še vedno delavna v bratskih organizacijah, cerkvenih in dobrodelnih društvih. Mr. Erchul je tajnik društva Sv. Cirila in Metoda KSKJ, in je bil vseh zadnjih 30 let redno izvoljen v ta urad. Mrs. Erchul je tudi bila odbornica raznih uradov društva Sv. Peter in Pavel, Hrv. Bratske Zajednice, kakor tudi krajevnih podružnic SŽZ. Sedaj je predsednica obeh organizacij. Enako je tudi članica Oltarnega društva in Mr. Erchul je član Kluba katoliških mož.
Razumljivo, da sta priljubljena zlatoporočenca bila počaščena od tako številnih gostov in mnogih odličnih osebnosti. Njuno neumorno javno delovanje v dobro naroda in katoliških organizacij, zasluži vse priznanje. Gotovo moreta s ponosom zreti nazaj na njuno plodonosno delo in sadove svojega truda. Največje zadoščenje pa jima je gotovo lepo vzgojeni otroci, ki so jima izkazali še posebno ljubezen na dan njune 50-letnice ter mnogi, mnogi, ki so jima izrazili javno spoštovanje.
Naj se tudi jaz pridružim premnogim čestitkam z iskrenimi voščili, tako v svojem imenu, kakor tudi v imenu moje družine in vse podružnice št. 34, da bi Bog blagoslovil in ohranil naša Mr. in Mrs. Erchul še mnoga, mnoga leta v sreči in zadovoljstvu.

Št. 38, Chisholm, Minn. — Na seji je bilo sklenjeno, da bomo imele na de-cemberski seji malo za posladkati. Naj vsaka članica kaj malega prinese. Tudi za poplakniti suha grla bo preskrbljeno — tako je rekla naša tajnica. Imele bomo tudi zamenjavo daril (gilt exchange) med seboj, zato naj vsaka prinese darilce v vrednosti 50 ..krajcarjev” — ne manj!
Na decemberski seji se voli tudi odbornice za prihodnje leto. Upam, da bo seja dobro zastopana po članicah, saj ena ali dve uri ni tako hudo, če se snidemo skupaj in se malo porazgovo-rinro ter pozabavamo. Dobro bi bilo, da tudi razmotrivamo, kaj bi bilo bolj privlačno za pristop novih članic k naši podružnici in Zvezi. Prihajajte k sejam v večjem številu, ker le tako bomo lahko kaj ukrenile.
Sedaj je Predkonvenčna kampanja za nove članice. Nagrade so lepe in ako ve katera za novo kandidatinjo, naj jo pripelje na sejo in jo bomo prav rade vzele v našo Žensko Zvezo. Kaj se vam zdi? Mary Nosan, poročevalka

—Naša predsednica Francka Meše, se je srečno vrnila z obiska hčerke Sophie in družine v Louisiana, N.A.
Sestra Agnes Sernel in soprog, na 1213 E. 168th St., sta pred nedavnim
obhajala zlato poroko. Zla.toporočen-cema iskreno čestitamo in jima želimo še mnogo zdravih in srečnih obletnic.
Mr. in Mrs. Robert L. Reink sta dobila prav zalo hčerkico, ki bo delala družbo bratcu. Dekliško ime mlade mamice je bilo Strumbel; je naša članica in bivša kadetka. Stara mamica Rose Strumble je že malo Karen Lee vpisala v mladinski oddelek in smo je prav vesele. Vsem skupaj naše iskrene čestitke!
Dobrodošla! kličemo novi družabni članici Rose Ribar.
Po daljšem bolehanju je zapustila dolino solz sestra Frances Mlinar. Naj ji bo Bog milostljivi sodnik. Preostalim žalujočim izrekamo naše sožalje.
Članice smo tukaj v Clevelandu zadnje čase nekoliko oživele, kar je prav razveseljivo. Na 22. septembra se nas je odpeljalo kar za dva busa gostovat k podružnici št. 54. Najbolj smo bile vesele, imeti med nami naše glavne odbornice: Mrs. Josephine Livek, Mrs. Albina Novak in Mrs. Josephine Železnikar. Hvala za obisk in ostanite zdrave do zopetnega snidenja. Mrs. Frances Seitz in Mrs. Frances Globokar prav lepa hvala za ves trud, ki sta ga imeli pri zbiranju članic.
Na 8. oktobra se nas je zopet precejšnje število zbralo na televizijski postaji na „Dorothy Fuldheim” programu. Med drugimi je tudi naša spretna kleklarica Mrs. F. Salmič pokazala umetnost v kleklanju. Za nas na vzhodsi strani mesta je vse preskrbela Mrs. F. Seitz. Prav prisrčna hvala, Frances!
Vse najboljše za rojstni dan v tem mesecu želimo naši glavni predsednci Mrs. Josephine Livek in glavni tajnici Mrs. Albini Novak. Naj Vaju Bog ohrani pri naboljšem zdravju in dobri volji za vodstvo Zveze še mnogo let!
Po oktoberski seji smo imele zopet zabavo pri pokrivanju številk. Okrepčila so preskrbele sestre: Mary Mar-lcel, Francka Meše in Theresa Strauss, kateri smo zapele Happy Birthday. Darila za srečne je prinesla sestra Mar-kel. V blagajno so darovale sestre: Theresa Strauss, Urška Ponikvar in Margaret Rožance. Od sreče smo dobile ?6.40 za našo posebno blagajno. Ker so bile srečne za lepa darila na listke, so darovale v blagajno: Mrs. A. Malovasic, 5 dolarjev; Mre. A. Pozel-nik, 1 dolar, in Mrs. F. Benett, 1 dolar. Prisrčna hvala vsem!

V	STARI KRAJ v letu 1958, pišite takoj za informacije na Glavni urad SZZ, 1937 W. Cermak Rd., Chicago 8, III.
Št. 55, Girard, Ohio. — Tem potom se najlepše zahvalim vsem članicam, kakor tudi našim moškim, ki so imeli kaj opravka z našo vinsko trgatvijo dne 28. sept. v Slov. domu. Udeležbo smo imeli tako lepo, da je bila dvorana čisto napolnjena. Bil je pa tudi lep program. Naše mlade vrle Slovenke, kakor tudi njih možje, so bili krasno opravljeni v slovenskih narodnih nošah in so zraven lepo prepevali. Zagotovljena sem, da je bil vsakdo zadovoljen, da se je udeležil te slavnosti. Zanaprej bo naš dan za vinsko trgatev vedno zadnja sobota v mesecu septembru. Ne pozabite!
Treba je, da zopet omenim kampanjo za nove članice. Prav gotovo je, da so še žene in dekleta v krogu našega prijateljstva, ki še niso članice Zveze. Povabimo jih v Žensko Zvezo! Prosim vas, naj vsaka vsaj malo poizkusi in pridobi eno novo članico.
Prišla je zopet vrsta na naše članice za čiščenje cerkve ali oltarja. Zadnji petek je pomagala Frances Juvančič, Jerry Westliart in jaz. Zanaprej bomo pa na seji v četrtek odločile.
Ob računu veselice smo že nekaj govorili o “Christmas Party”. Kaj in kako bo, je sedaj še ,,secret”, slišale pa boste na novemberski seji.

Naše seje so se spet redno začele po letni vročini, katere je bilo tukaj precej. Pridite sedaj redno in pripeljite vsaka kaj novih članic, da bomo tudi me, pri naši podružnici, kaj storile za Predkonvenčno kampanjo. Letos smo izgubile že dve dobri članici: prva je bila Anna Bayulc, kot je bilo že poročano; meseca julija pa je umrla Margaret Mance, ki je vedno imela dobro besedo za Zarjo in Zvezo. Zapušča žalujočega soproga, tri sinove in hčer.
Sestra Mary Zunich je izgubila soproga, tako tudi sestra Mary Hotujec. Družinam naše iskreno sožalje, vsem pokojnim naj sveti večna luč.
Sestra Mary Poje in soprog sta v krogu svoje številne družine lepo praznovala 50-letnico zakonskega življenja. Naše čestitke in še na mnoga leta!
Prav lepo smo tudi slavili 50-letnico društva sv. Veronike št. 115 KSKJ. Pod vodstvom preds. Mary Majerle, ki je obenem tudi druga nadzornica pri naši podružnici, je bil pripravljen prav lep banket, na katerega so prišli tudi naš bivši dušni pastir Rev. Daniel Gni-dica, Mr. Germ, gl. preds., s svojo ljubko gospo soprogo, iz Pueblo, Colorado. Izjavila je, da bo odsedaj naprej še rajši čitala dopise v Zarji in v drugih listih iz naše naselbine. Posetil nas je tudi gl. tajnik Mr. Zalar, iz Jolleta,

družino iz Oklahoma City, Okla. Nas je veselilo, pozdraviti se z vsemi.
Poročila se je hčerka Mr. in Mrs. Joseph Palčar; njena mama je naša članica.
Stara mamica je zopet postala naša podpreds. Mary Juratovich, ko so pri hčerki dobili sinčka. — Moja hči Helen v Freeport, 111., in sin Frank sta tudi dobila sinčka meseca avgusta. Frances Yarc je tudi spet stara mamica. Naše čestitke vsem in Bog daj vsem zdravja.

Št. 71, Strabane, Pa. — Zaradi moje dolge bolezni se nisem že dolgo oglasila v Zarji in tudi se sej nisem udeleževala. Upam, da bo boljše v bodoče.
Na zadnji seji smo sprejele štiri nove članice, da smo nadomestile izgubo pokojne sestre Annie Jurus, kot je bilo že poročano o njeni smrti. Najlepša hvala našim članicam, ki so se v velikem številu udeležile molitve sv. rožnega venca in pogreba. S tem ste izkazale zadnjo čast ranjki in pomagale, da smo pridobile štiri nove članice, ker so se jim jako dopadli pogrebni obredi. Lepa hvala vam! Ker je sedaj Predkonvenčna kampanja in so razpisane lepe nagrade, bi vas prosila, da se potrudite, da bomo tudi na prihodnji seji zopet sprejele štiri nove članice.
Na tem mestu se zahvalim mojim sosedom in prijateljicam za veliko voščilnih kartic in za obiske v bolnici in na domu, ter za darila in za vse, kar ste mi dobrega storile v času moje dolge bolezni. Enako sestri Annie Strle za lep kejlc za moj rojstni dan. Stokrat vam lepa hvala in Bog naj vam plača. Jaz ne bom nikdar pozabila vaše dobrote. Nisem si mislila, da imam toliko prijateljev.
Nesreča nikdar ne počiva. Danes so pripeljali iz New Yorka in bo tukaj pokopana poleg staršev Annie (Ver-ček) omožena Slapnik. Pred leti je bila naša članica in se je preselila v Madison, Ohio. Pred tremi meseci je šla na obisk v stari kraj s soprogom in prijatelji Mr. in Mrs. John Polc iz Clevelanda. Dne 2. okt., ko so se vozili proti Parizu, da se vkrcajo na ladjo, se je zgodila velika nesreča. Drugi avto jih je zadel s tako silo, da sta bila na mestu ubita Annie Slapnik in John Polc, Mr. Slapnik in Mrs. Polc pa sta dobila bolj lahke poškodbe in sta se vrnila nazaj v Ameriko.
Tukaj je veliko otrok in odraslih bolnih na influenci (flu). Sestra Antonia Progar je na domu tako nesrečno padla ter se pobila, da se mora zdra-
viti v Cannonsburg bolnici. Želimo, da bi se kmalu pozdravila in prišla domov. Vsem bolnim pa želimo ljubega zdravja.
Vstopno nagrado (door prize) je dobila sestra Agnes Rozman.

Št. 71, Strabane, Pa.—Naše seje so zadnje čase precej dobro obiskane, za kar prav lepa hvala vsem, katere prihajate. Lepo bi bilo, da bi jih še več prišlo. Sedaj je pravi čas, ni ne vroče ne mrzlo. Treba bi bilo kaj ukreniti in narediti, da pride kaj v blagajno, ker iz nje gre vedno bolj hitro. Treba bo plačati uradnice. Čudno, ko kdo misli, da je dovolj, če plača asesment, pa naj bo pri katerem društvu hoče. Ne vem, kako bi se asesment sam pošiljal, če ne bi bilo uradnic, a te je treba plačati, in kje vzeti, če ne bomo skrbele za blagajno.
Izgubile smo dobro članico sestro Anno Yurus. Trpela je dosti in vdano. Umrla je 18. sept. 1957. Zapušča žalujočega soproga in sina ter brate in sestre, kateri jo bodo vsi pogrešali. Sestri Elizabeth in Agnes, naši članici, sta prihiteli pred smrtjo k njej iz daljne Kalifornije. Bile so neutolažljive nad izgubo svoje drage sestre. Imela je tudi lep dom, pa vse je morala zapustiti. Pokojna je bila dobra članica in ni nikdar odrekla pomoči. Zelo jo bomo pogrešale, a njeni dragi jo bodo še bolj, ker so jo zelo ljubili. Ali večni Oče jo je še bolj — zato jo je poklical k Sebi. Imela je lep cerkveni pogreb. Članice smo jo spremile na zadnji poti in molile pri krsti. Marsikatera nečlanica je rekla, kako lepo je bilo, ko so jo spremile s svečami. Soprogu in sinu in sorodnikom naše sožalje, a ona naj v miru počiva. Naša preds. Mary Tomsich se je podala v daljno Kalifornijo, ker se ji zdravje le noče povrniti. Misli, da bo mogoče tam kaj bolje. Članice ji želimo, da bi se kmalu zdrava vrnila domov in med nas.

V	tem dopisu se želim predvsem zahvaliti članicam in prijateljicam za navzočnost na naši zadnji kartni zabavi. Ta prireditev je bila v korist slovenske cerkve na 57th in Butler st., in uspeh je bil presenetljiv. Naše članice se zavedajo, da je treba včasih bolj globoko v žep seči. In so tudi! Naredile smo prav lepo vsoto. Mislim, da bodo gospod Kebe prav veseli tega božičnega darila od naše podružnice.
Dne 12. decembra bo glavna seja. Ne pozabite, to bo važna letna seja. Pogovorile se bomo, kako se bo delalo v prihodnjem letu. Za rešiti je več važnih stvari v dobrobit podružnice in Zveze v splošnem.

Imajte to napameti, da treba godišnju sednicu posjetiti i svoj dug podmirite, ako koja članica zaostala sa uplatom.
■Drage sestre, i još vam da znat, da imamo na 7. decembra, to jest prvo suboto u decembru Christmas Party za naš Juvenile Pomladak. Dajmo i njima malo zabave i veselja i to se sve vrši, kako vam je poznato, u Hali pod crkvom. Isto večer na 7. decembra imamo mi članice Grab Bag. To znate članice same, svake godine pred Božičem, donesite svaka što vred i
1	dolar, pa čete i odnesti, što vredi dolar.
Drage sestre i članice, još mi ostaje jedna važna opomena i molba na vas svaku po osebi. Kako same znate, da je Konvenčna kampanja do 30. janu-ara 1958, još samo 3 meseca, a mi nismo još nič učinile u ovoj kampanji. Kako vidite i same, da mi starije pomalo odlazimo u vječnost, a kome čemo ostaviti naše društvo, ako ne dovedemo novih članic, da slede nas. Dajte molim u ovo kratko vreme, da privedemo novih. Još ima dobrih katoličkih žena i mladjih, da oživimo naš Br. 95, S.Ž. Zveze.

Št. 96, Universal, Pa. — Drage članice! Upam, da boste vse prišle na našo prihodnjo sejo. Na seji bomo imele tudi odkritje vaših “secret sisters”, zato ste naprošene, da prinesete nekaj za njihovo božično darilo. Prav tako bomo imele po seji priljubljeno igro, kakor ponavadi, ter zato prinesite darilo v vrednosti 60«* ali več. Slišala sem, da bi nekatere ženske rade pristopile. Pojasnila dobijo tiste, pri katerikoli uradnici naše podružnice. Na zadnji seji smo imele veliko udeležbo in smo tudi igrali priljubljeno igro in to je samo za naše članice in gre v pomoč naši blagajni. Po seji je teta Habjan prinesla potico na mizo in pie ter coffee. Prav lepa hvala. Še enkrat vse prav lepo prosim, da ne pozabite naše prihodnje seje, dne 1. decembra 1957, to je na prvo nedeljo v mesecu ob 2. uri popoldne na mojem domu.

JUNIOR FOLK DANCERS OF CHICAGO
Pictured here are the S.A. Radio Club Folk Dancing Juniors of Chicago, 111., who are always ready with a pleasant smile and talented performance. This summer, they performed at Lemont, 111., for the annual ZVEZA DAY picnic. The youngsters are dressed in authentic national costume and know how to sing Slovenian folk songs as well as dance. Almost all the little ones are members of Branch No. 2, Chicago, 111., and they are planning on performing Dec. 3rd at the Slovenian Christmas festivities at the Museum of Science and Industry. — From left to right, top row:	Martha Krašovec, Nandy Stanovnik, Frankie
