V Washingtonu so prav konkretno pogajanja z Angleži. Pogajanja o angleškem posojilu so trenotno prva. Prekop imajo očistiti 50 potopljenih ladij, popraviti dva mostova, katera so Angleži in Francozi bombardirali. Stroški bodo namreč znašali $40 milijonov in kdo naj jih krije? Bingham, Chapter Chairman announced. Recording machines will be available at Red Cross Headquarters, 1227 Prospect Ave., from December 10 through December 19, from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. in Rooms 308, 406; and. I admire the progress of our people, whether in a personal or community interest, just as long as it benefits the people, the individual and the nation. , I remember frequently the people who pioneered to bring us a better lifd; how they toiled to get a comfortable living; how hard the road may have been for one or the other among us to fight his way to some higher position in life, only each individual knows. Long was the road and often without any help or encouragement and I therefore say, lucky is he who has a friend to give him a helping hand so that he might reach the goal serving his nation, his people or his state. I am thinking about the last elections. We are all certainly happy that Frank Lausche became a Senator with such a large majority. It makes us proud that he is one of us; that he has achieved a tremendous victory and in doing so, we may reminisce how he entered the political life. Many years ago an Ohio Governor offered a helping hand to our Frank and appointed him to a vacancy in ^the Municipal Court of Cleveland. This was an opening wedge in his public life and from there on he proceeded to Common ' Pleas Court — to Mayor's Office and to the Governorship. Of course, we helped him as much as we could, also many other groups helped him, and most of all, he was helped by his own courage. He took advantage of the opportunity afforded him by the Governor. His personality attracted many, many thousands and today we can realize that hard work and self sacrifice on his part, were not in vain, they helped him to become United SLate^ Ssnator from Ohio. We have in Cleveland approximately sixty lawyers of Slovenian origin, all of them being trustworthy, honest, hardworking and intelligent so that we have complete faith and confidence in them. I am a little surprised, however, that it is more than ten years since our own Here's a Gift that's racticai A SAVINGS momi Looking for a gift that's sure to please a youngster, relative or employee? It is true that many people feel it is not good to show any favoritism or common courtesy to one's own nationality when such a person is in public life, since it may be misinterpreted. But is it true that one has to be aloof all the time ? Many an opportunity came during this, period to appoint Judges and office holders in various jobs, but very infrequently have we heard of any of our boys getting an opportunity at them, and so it is that today there is no Slovene sitting on the bench in Ohio. What this may njean, I do not know. Is it possible that no one of Slovene blood has any ability for a higher office? This is hard to believe, but facts are what they are. i An opportunity will be forthcoming in the near future, similar to the one which started our Frank on his career, because one of the seats on the Municipal Court bench of Cleveland will be vacated by a promotion and this will be the last opportunity for the Governor to look over our field and see if he can't find one of the Slovene lawyers for the vacancy before he leaves for Washington. We have no particular person in mind, for we feel that Frank must know most, if not all of them, and a little study on his part will find one of them qualified to take such a job. This, I leave to his good judgment, but I am writing this letter merely to call attention to an oversight, for which, perhaps, our easy going nature is to blame. L. Ferf61ia. Frantz announced that as an exceptional measure to assist last-minute Christmas mailing, the main post office and all classified postal stations and branches throughout Greater Cleveland will be open to the public Saturday, December 15, from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m., and on Sunday, December 16, from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. But the Postmaster hastened to warn against waiting for Sunday service. His motto is—"Don't Delay. Mail today to assure delivery before Christmas." And you can help ease the pressure by visiting the post office before 10 a. m. or between 1:30 p. m. and 3:30 p. m. "Air mail postage is the best idea for any remaining greeting cards and gift parcels going to other states," the postmaster said._ And please show a complete return address on all mail. Each year many thousands of Christmas cards and gifts wind up in the Dead Letter Office because they are undeliverable and show no return address. The Postmaster expressed his thanks to every one in Greater Cleveland for their cooperation so far on the annual "Mail Early For Christmas" campaign. Let's help the Postmaster and his hard-working staff by taking care of all Christmas mailings immediately. Address mail clearly and correctly. Show return address. Use Delivery Zone numbers. RARE PRINTS AT THE MUSEUM OF ART A uniqtie exhibition of European prints, ranging from 1400 to 1800, will open at The Cleveland Museum of Art on December 18. This exhibition contains masterpieces of four hundred vears of graphic art and is considered the finest print show over assembled for public view in America. Some of the prints are the only existing examples. Others are one of a mere handful known to exist. Although all are rare, no print was included for its rarity alone, but for the perfection of its impression and its extraordinary quality of freshness. In most cases the prints are first impressions. Two hundred works have been gathered from American museums and private collections to, form this exhibition. A few of the prints have never before been seen by the public. Many Were originally in the great European collections and found their way to America after the two world wars. Included in the show are works by such print-makers as Mantegna, Martin Schongauer, the Master ES, Al-brecht Durer, Botticelli, Burg-kmair and Rembrandt. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts opened the exhibition to celebrate the reestablishm^t of their Prints and Drawings Department. The show will continue in Cleveland through January 20 and will then go to The Art Institute of Chicago. Uto a magic Mtpet... a layer of aealed air insole and outsole of AIRFILM Shoes. Ingrown toenail Ingrown toenail is the most common nail complaint. Any of the nails could be affected but it usually occurs on the great toe. Due to improper putting, short or narrow shoes, foot imbalance, etc. the nail plate may curve causing the edge to press and cut into the tissue. Should the skin be broken, bacteria may enter and a painful, infected ingrown toenail results. This may be further complicated by "proud flesh" — a free bleeding mass, with pus, that forms in the nail groove. Often tins condition requires repeated treatment by the chiropodist to insure complete recovery. Despite the advertising claims of commercial firms there is no drug known which will cause nails to grow straight. Severe ingrown toenails may require surgery for permanent correction. Fortunately, modern research has given the profession newer methods of nail correction to cope with most of these conditions. Calloused nail groove All painful nails are not necessarily ingrown. Often nail pressure causes callous in the nail groove. Sometimes the pressure is so localized that a very painful pin-point corn may form. Cutting out a V-shaped area at the tip of the nail will not cure the condition nor will dangerous digging at the side of the toe correct the situation. Planned, repeated treatment by the chiropodist is the answer to this persistent foot complaint. Tliickened nails Ugly, large, thickened nails are primarily caused by injury—stubbing the toes or dropping an object on them. If the accident is severe enough to permanently alter the nail root or damage the bed, on which the nail rests, a normal nail plate will not develop. Meticulous, periodic treatment by the chiropodist will make these nails look presentable and keep them from becoming painful. Skin conditions such as fungus or psoriasis as well as several general bodily diseases will also cause nails to thicken. Fungus nails Many skin conditions can spread to the nails of which fungus is probably the most common. Nails which lift away from the bed, snow white or brown streaks or thicken should be seen by a chiropodist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Once a diagnosis of fungus is established a good nail can be assured by conscientious patient-doctor cooperation. Nails are slow growing tissue. Seven months to one year are often necessary to produce a normal appearing nail. Nail bed conditions Injury often causes blood or serum to collect between the nail and its bed. These injuries should receive professional treatment by a chiropodist. In this manner an ulcer, sinus or infection may be avoided. —Prepared and Released by the Ohio Cbiropodlst AssKiation, Columbus, OhW Charles & Olga Slapnik FLORISTS Beautiful Bouquets, Corsages, Wreaths, Potted Plants and Flowers for all Occasions 6026 ST.
