Z psalmistovimi besedami je zavpil: »Moj Bog, moj Bog, zakaj si me zapustil?» (Mt 27,46).

6TH Sunday of Lent - Palm Sunday
Response:
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
First Reading Isaiah 50:4-7
The first of four enigmatic songs in Isaiah about the anonymous Servant of the Lord. These give a wonderful backdrop to the passion and death of Jesus. Second Reading Philippians 2:6-11
Paul quotes what is thought to have been a song sung in the early Christian communities: powerful words echoed in the Gospel acclamation. Gospel Matthew 26:14 - 27:66
Matthew's is the longest of the Gospel passion narratives. It includes features not found in other versions, including Pontius Pilate washing his hands, Pilate's wife, the earthquake and more.
"Pilate knew it was out of jealousy that they had handed him over."

First-time visitors to Jerusalem are often surprised and disappointed when they see the route traditionally thought to have been taken by Jesus on the way to Golgotha, the place of execution. It's always busy, noisy and filled with shoppers looking for bargains in the markets. First-time pilgrims are shocked - until they realise that this is probably what it would have been like in Jesus' time. The Romans paraded the condemned prisoners through crowds as an example to others: just look at what the Romans could - and would - do to punish those who tried to overthrow Roman rule. Crucifixion was
162 | VESTNI K 2020
used only for those who were not Roman citizens. As well as being extreme, it was discriminatory: Roman citizens were beheaded, which was considered more humane.
We can only begin to guess at the physical suffering Jesus must have undergone. Betrayed by the religious leadership of his own people, abandoned by his disciples; and, with the exception of his mother and some of her relations, Jesus died rejected by the majority of his own people. But that is not the end of the story, because there is an important phrase that runs through the whole of the Gospel of Matthew, and particularly in the passion narrative; Matthew frequently makes the observation that all this was done "to fulfil the scriptures".
Gospel Teaching
In addition to pointing out that events took place and words were spoken in order to fulfil the scriptures, Matthew includes episodes in his account of Jesus' passion and death which are not found in the other Gospels. An example of this is the continuation of the story of Judas, who betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. This episode, says Matthew, was to fulfil the prophet Jeremiah; actually, this story is based on one from the prophet Zech-ariah. The point of the story is that the thirty pieces of silver that Judas received for betraying Jesus was the lowest price a slave could be sold for.
Another interesting episode is when Pilate's wife warns her husband to have nothing to do with Jesus: she has had a dream about this man, which upset her. This is the second time in this Gospel that Gentiles show more understanding of Jesus' identity than do Jesus' fellow Jews. When Jesus was born, it was the pagan magi who, by following a star, sought the location of the newborn king. Herod and his advisors, with full access to the scriptures, made no attempt to do so, though Herod tried to have Jesus killed by slaughtering all male children in the area under two years of age.
Finally, there is the apocalyptic vision described after Jesus' death when the dead leave their tombs. No other evangelist describes this happening, so some writers conclude that this is a vision of what will happen sometime in the future, perhaps at the second coming of Jesus. Matthew wants to stress that in his death, and the resurrection which will of course follow, Jesus' works for the salvation of all apply to all people - past, present and future.
Application
Matthew, like all the Gospel writers, collates stories about Jesus, not just to tell a good tale, but to demonstrate that God's work takes place in every part of the story of this Gospel. In the passion account, Jesus continues to fulfil the scriptures. This is necessary because it is the proof that Matthew the evangelist uses to show that Jesus does not act alone, but is doing the will of his Father. Throughout the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus fulfils the teaching of Moses, and he is the healer of various ills in ways that recall the action of the greatest Old Testament prophets like Elijah and Elisha. Jesus is the fulfilment of the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah and Zechariah, but he carries out these works in his own right.
Matthew wrote his Gospel to strengthen the faith of followers of Jesus who had found themselves expelled from the synagogues by the former Pharisees. These had taken to themselves the teaching of the Law of Moses, and clearly felt challenged by those pledging allegiance to Jesus of Nazareth. Matthew's document was a great resource for strengthening the faith of those caught up in these purges. Today the Gospel, particularly the story of Jesus' passion, is a valuable resource for strengthening our own faith, and for our determination daily to witness to Jesus' death and resurrection in our own lives.

What If I Die?
By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB
People around the world are dying from COVID-19. Many people here in New York (where I am writing this) are in fact dying each day of the coronavirus. If you get the bug, there is a 1 -2% chance that you'll die - at least that's what I'm reading.
Your first reaction is probably like mine - it's typical: "This can't happen." "This can't be happening!" "They will invent a cure for it."
Your second reaction is most likely that corona will miss you, skip over you. You've been pretty healthy and have kept social distance from others these past two weeks. You'll be specially blessed and it won't come to your door. You'll try to avoid crowds and hopefully it will pass. We will 'flatten the curve' and it will be done with in a short while. You say to yourself - even if I get it I'll beat it. I hope so!
Let's pray that it subsides. Let's pray for a cure. I'll pray for you and you pray for me. We pray for protection through the intercession of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph. We pray for a vaccine. Nevertheless, there is no guarantee that we might not die. After all, we all have to die one day. We certainly hope that it isn't in the next two months, but none of us is guaranteed a long life under 'normal' circumstances, let alone while facing this pandemic. There is a 1 -2% chance that it's going to be you, or maybe me, getting severe symptoms. You or me, or one of the other 98 out of a hundred could be facing death in the next few weeks.
So... what if we die? Well - then we'll be dead. We'll face judgment by Almighty God and it will result in heaven, hell or purgatory.
The point of this reflection is that there is something all of us ought to be doing right now - making peace with God and one another! Here are a few suggestions for the rest of our days here on earth, no matter how many they are (and I hope they are many):
1) Treasure your family and friends. Let them know that you love them.
2) Find a priest and go to confession and say you're sorry for your sins.
3) Make amends with those whom you've hurt.
4) Talk to Jesus and accept his love and grace and let it sink into your heart.
5) Don't sin. Don't break God's commandments. From now on live with great love for everyone and do the right thing - no more shortcuts.
6) Receive strength and courage through the Word of God in the Bible. Read it and let the words of Our Lord sink in.
7) Ask Mary, Our Lady Help of Christians, for her intercession (pray the rosary). Also ask St. Joseph to give you the grace of a happy death when your time comes.
Death comes to all of us. St. Paul tells us in Corinthians 13: "In the end there are three things that remain - faith, hope and love - and the greatest of these is love." When my dad died two years ago he wasn't afraid. He had faith, hope and love. I hope I can go like that, too. The most often repeated phrase Jesus used in the gospels was "Do not be afraid". We need to be courageous. The opposite of faith is fear. We are people of faith and because we believe, we are not afraid.
Seventy-four years ago, C.S. Lewis wrote about living in the uncertainty of the atomic age after the bomb had been dropped in Japan. He may as well have been writing about the 'coronavirus bomb'! He said, "How are we to live in an atomic age? Friends, do not exaggerate the novelty of our situation. Believe me, you and all whom you love were already sentenced to death before the atomic bomb was invented."
Lewis' point: If we are going to be destroyed by the virus, when it comes may it be that God finds us doing sensible and beautiful things - praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, chatting to our friends over a pint. Let us live joyfully in the light of Christ. A microbe can dominate our bodies but it need not dominate our minds and spirits

Kako doma blagoslovimo velikonočna jedila?
1. Znamenje križa
2. Desetka rožnega venca
Vaši očetje so v puščavi jedli mano in so umrli.
Molimo. Amen.
Blagoslov velikonočnega zajtrka
Znamenje križa. Oče naš. Molimo. Nebeški Oče, blagoslovi ta velikonočni zajtrk.
Naj nas velikonočni prazniki tako prenovijo,
da bomo vedno bolj hrepeneli
po duhovni hrani ter jo
našli v tvoji besedi
in sveti evharistični skrivnosti.
Po Kristusu, našem Gospodu.
Amen.

Dear parishioners and friends of St. Gregory the Great Slovenian Parish
I write to you today to offer my prayerful support and closeness as we navigate through these challenging times. While this is a difficult time in so many ways, it is particularly hard to be unable to gather to celebrate the Eucharist together. At a time when we hear so many reminders to keep "social distance," from others, let us continue to remember that, '7he Lord is near to all who call on him." (Psalm 148:18) The Lord is near to you now and always!
Throughout the entire universal Church, it is the responsibility of the pastor in every parish in the world each Sunday to celebrate the Missa pro populo - the Mass for the People. I want to assure you that each Sunday, I continue to offer this Mass for you and all members of our parish. Let us continue to be united to the Lord and to one another through spiritual communion while we must fast from the Bread of Life.
I encourage you to read the daily scripture readings, pray the Rosary and other devotional prayers, and pray for all those afflicted with this virus and those working to limit its spread.
Watching Masses broadcast on television or the internet is a wonderful way to maintain the holiness of the Lord's Day. Our parish will be broadcasting Mas every Sunday at 10:00 a.m., which can be found on the parish website, Facebook: https:// www.facebook.com/stgregorythegreathamilton/
I know that we had some difficulties with our live streaming last week, however it was uplifting to see that so many were interested in participating in the celebration of mass. We have worked hard on resolving the streaming issues, particularly the sound, and invite you to join us again this Sunday at 10:00a.m at the link above. We are an active Slovenian community. I am confident that together we will come out stronger at the end of this crisis.
Mass from the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King will be broadcast on CHCH TV each Sunday and can also be accessed through www.hamiltondiocese.com
As you know, being unable to open our doors means we will not be receiving regular contributions to help us pay our bills - which do not stop, even while we are closed. If you are able, I hope you will consider continuing your financial support of our parish during this time.
Contributions can be made online at: www.hamiltondiocese.com/covid19parishfund where you can make a gift directed to our parish. You may also wish to mail in your envelopes to the parish - either of these methods would be truly and profoundly appreciated and would help our parish at a time of difficulty. May God bless you for your generosity.
Your parish understands the difficulties and challenges with isolation. We would like to remind everyone that we have an email address that you can forward any requests for help, or submit your name for volunteerism: sgtgparish@gmail.com . We hope to be able to work together to fulfill the needs of all our parishioners and create ways that will help us all through these difficult times.
After this period of trial has finished, we will once again gather together to worship God in the celebration of the Eucharist. This will be a moment of great celebration for all of us. Until this time, let us hold the words of the Lord to the prophet Isaiah in our hearts:
"Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand."
- Isaiah 41:10

Okrepi me v senci svojega Znamenja in osvetli me s svetlobo vstajajočega sonca.

https://www.facebook.com/stgregorythegreathamilton/
Pripet bo poleg Vestnika.
Po zadnjem navodilu hamiltonske škofije so župnijski uradi ostanejo zaprti do 14. aprila. Za več informacij bomo izvedeli pozneje.
Naj vse spremlja božji blagoslov in prip-rošnja Marije Pomočnice kristjanov. - župnik
V tem tednu so obletnice smrti faranov, ki so zapisani v naših knjigah:
