Formalni vzrok v Drugi analitiki

V članku dokazujem, da je Aristotelova razlaga o znanstvenem dokazovanju v Drugi analitiki osredotočena na formalno vzročnost, ki je razumljena kot dokaz v pojmih bistva (in ki ne razlikuje med obliko in snovjo). Medtem ko Aristotel pravi, da lahko v doka-zovalnem silogizmu srednji pojem označuje vse štiri vzroke in dokaj obsežno obravnava učinkujočo vzročnost, zadeva velika večina njegove obravnave predvsem formalni vzrok. Poleg tega pokažem, da ima Aristotel izdelane zelo natančne postopke za identifikacijo formalnega vzroka in da se zaveda večjega števila težav, ki bi lahko vodile do identifikacije napačne oblike ali forme kot vzroka lastnosti. Na koncu pokažem tudi, da je mogoče Aristotelovo razlago z lahkoto prilagoditi materialni vzročnosti in - s pomočjo nekaterih sprememb (vpeljava procesnih splošnosti ali občosti, ki so povezane z delnostjo), na katero nakazuje 11, 11-12 in 16-17 - z učinkujočo in smotrno vzročnostjo.

The Formal Cause in the Posterior Analytics

1 argue that Aristotle's account of scientific demonstrations in the Posterior Analytics is centred upon formal causation, understood as a demonstration in terms of essence (and as innocent of the distinction between form and matter). While Aristotle says that all four causes can be signified by the middle term in a demonstrative syllogism, and 153 he discusses at some length efficient causation, much of Aristotle's discussion is foremost concerned with the formal cause. Further, 1 show that Aristotle had very detailed procedures for identifying the formal cause, and that he is aware of several problems which might lead one to erroneously identify the wrong form as the cause of a property. Finally, 1 show that Aristotle's account can easily be adapted to material causation, and through some modifications (introduction of process universals related through part-hood), hinted at in 11 11-12 and 16-17, to efficient and final causation.
