The leader of this group will be our Supreme President ANTONIA TUREK, who has crossed the Atlantic many times and is an experienced leader. Special service and attention will be given to the passengers on all points of transfer, making a trip as carefree as possible. To give an opportunity to every participant of the 1964 excursion to see as much of Slovenia and Europe as possible, special excursions are being prepared for our members, such as:

LET US DO OUR WORK
New Year with its demands is here again. We feel that the things that were supposed to be done in the past were only half-done. Our conscience is against us. What to do? We have to realize that the work we have to do in life is given us by God. It is not just an affair which we happen to find ourselves doing. Bach soul has its quota to perform, its mission to carry out. There are two ways a man can sanctify himself. A man can say: Here is my job. I must put my head down and go at it. In order to make a success of it 1 must pray. God must be brought into it.” It is an excellent way. But the other way goes further: “My work is God’s work for me,” says the second man, “so I must let it sanctify me.
I	shall find no sanctity apart from it. In it I shall find both happiness and God.”
Holiness is not something which should be looked upon as coming on top of a man’s work, sanctifying it from without and rendering it worthy to be presented to God. Rather it should be regarded as emerging out of the work, and given to God in union with it. It is not so much in virtue of our preceding prayer that the character of our work is as it were sacramentalised. It is rather that by bringing to our work readiness to be sanctified by it that we therein, and therethrough, refer the whole of our lives to God and allow Him to work out His sanctification in us. The first way of looking at work and happiness involves calling God’s blessing down upon these things, the second prefers to think of Him as so much jiart of work and happiness as to call for recognition in them. The one asks God to be a safeguard, watching over our activity from outside; the other asks God to reveal Himself more and more as the source of our activity and as its end.
The practical effects resulting from such a habit of mind are significant. Chief among them are an increased recollection kept up during the work itself, a serenity which is as proof as anything can be against disappointment, a detachment from whatever personal glory may come as the result of one’s effort, and a trust that nothing can go really wrong so long as one is absolutely honest and uses the means which God gives one for the work.
Holiness then and happiness as well, can be found only in doing what God wants done — and in the way that He wants it done. He rewards only his own work. He provides us with just enough light to see what it is that we are to do; He then gives us the strength to do it. If we refuse to look, or having looked, refuse to work, we are rewarded with neither holiness nor happiness. The principle is perfectly clear. We take it or leave it. This is the way we should look into the future and into the solving of our problem what to do and how to sanctify ourselves.

The mournful weeks following the tragic death of President Kennedy have passed into history and somehow, we have resumed living in a semblance of order and routine.
But, not one of us will ever forget the stunning blow we felt that day nor the cavalcade of events which brought us, through the media of television and the newspapers, to the last, final journey. Not comprehending the sorrow of the scene, nor its meaning, little John F. Kennedy Jr. contributed his part to the national homage paid his father by the simple little gesture that has become a historic and unforgetable picture in itself.
13th National Convention
Chicago, 111., May 17-20
JANUARY AND FEBRUARY are the two months designated for the election of your delegates to the 13th National S.W.U. Convention. Members are requested to attend the meetings and help elect the most qualified delegates and alternates to represent your branch. The following sections are taken from the By-laws and Regulations of our S.W.U.
The 13th regular S.W.U.A. Convention will be held May 17-20, 1964 at Chicago, 111.
To be a delegate or alternate, one must be at least 21 years of age, and be a member in good standing besides being a practical Catholic and a U. S. citizen at the time of election. Candidates for delegates and alternates must have attended at least 5 meetings of the year, prior to the Convention, being a member at least one year. This, however, shall not apply to newly organized branches. (The Convention year is considered from the first day of January of the previous year to the first of January in the convention year.)
Each subordinate branch which has the assessment paid for all its members and which numbers 100 to 300 members in adult Classes A and B on the first day in the month of January of the convention year, shall be entitled to one delegate to the convention. Branches numbering 301 to 600 members shall be entitled to two delegates. Branches with more than 601 members are entitled to three delegates to the convention. No branch shall send more than three delegates to the convention irrespective of the total membership total.
Delegates and alternates shall be elected in the month of January or February in the convention year. Elections held earlier than the first day of January or later than the first day of March of the convention year shall not be considered valid. The nominations of delegates shall be public, the election being made by written ballot. If more than one delegate is nominated and a majority is not reached by any one candidate, the two highest nominees shall be voted upon to decide the election. A separate election shall be held for each delegate. Alternates shall be elected in a similar manner.
Unanimous elections shall be valid when the entire present membership approves, or if only one candidate has been nominated.
Credentials of the delegates shall be signed by the president, secretary and treasurer of the respective branch to be valid and shall be presented to the convention credential committee by the delegate.
Subordinate branches having a membership of less than 100 members shall be combined with other such branches by the Supreme Secretary for the purpose of electing a delegate. The total membership for consolidation for elections shall be considered as of the first day in the month of January of the convention year. The consolidated branches shall have a total of 120 members to be entitled to one delegate. In connection therewith the branches closest to each other shall be consolidated. The Supremo Secretary shall issue the order of consolidation after which the delegates shall be elected. Consolidated branches shall elect their delegate in the month of February.
Branches which do not send a delegate may authorize another delegate or a Supreme Board member who attends the convention to represent them. A proxy vote of such branches is valid only if the branch numbers 100 members.
From its Expense Fund the Union shall pay the delegates transportation to and from the convention city. (Round trip fare in coach). Albina Novak, Supr. Sec’y.

ACTIVITIES
No. 2, Chicago, III. At the December meeting, we welcomed six new members! Four are children enroll-el by sister Zefran and two adult members, Mrs. Anna Gaber and her daughter, Ann Krivograd were enrolled by sister Zorko. Good luck to our campaigners and maybe we can have our Convention Queen from Chicago! How about it ladies? Report on the Penny Social of November showed that altho the attendance was not exceptional, the profit assured a nice Christmas party for our juveniles. This is the only way we have of supporting the extra-curricular activities of the branch so you see why it’s so important that we attend these doings.
Speaking of parties, our branch will hold a holiday party and exchange of gifts at the January 9th meeting! Please, one and all, come to this meeting and enjoy the social which will be planned along with installation of officers. We’ll also celebrate birthdays for Oct. Nov., Dec. and Jan. at that time. The grab-bag gift value is $1. Refreshments will also be served! Plan on attending, Jan. 9th. We hope to have a large group so that we can select our Mother of the Year and delegates to the coming Convention!
Sister Mary Koren, a birthday celebrant surprised us with a beautifully decorated cake which all the members enjoyed. Also, get-well wishes were extended to sisters Theresa Balazic and Antonia Basko.
Sergeant-at-arms, Luba Troha and her husband, Tony, were 50th anni-versarians in Oct. and the membership expressed their heartiest wishes to them for continued happiness. See you on Jan. 9th. Corinne Leskovar
No. 5, Indianapolis, Ind. On Nov. 30, 19G3 our branch president Miss SOPHIA KRAPES became Mrs. JOHN MUMAUGH in Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The ladies of the S.W.U. would like to take this opportunity to
wish the newlyweds heartiest congratulations and best wishes lor a very prosperous and happy life.
From the note of festivity we turn to a more somber tone. Death has claimed FRANCES ADAMS, ANNA TURK and our charter member MARY KOS. The members of S.W.U. extend their sincerest sympathy to the relatives of these departed members.
The members are not at full strength. Sickness seems to have touched a few of the ladies. We offer a word of cheer by hoping that they will soon recover.
Due to so many other activities during December our branch will have its Christmas party in January. Meetings are at 1:20 p. m. on the fourth Sunday of the month at the Slovenian National Home.

tribute to FAITH:	In	the eyes of
Jacqueline Kennedy sorrow was mirrored, she stood as if transfixed-tears unable to come for the dreadful hurt at the loss of her beloved. To her, Jack Kennedy was not the President of these United States but her husband. The nation felt sorrow and tears rolled down the cheeks of our Nation unashamed, but here stood a woman soon to become a symbol to all womanhood, dry-eyed and with a dignity never shown by any woman in the world. Where can one find this great strength? It is without saying a nearness to God by practicing our FAITH in the way we each know. It matters not what house of God is of your choosing but to have God with you through your learnings. As was seen by millions this fine family the Kennedys who have prayed together, stayed together throughout this great tragedy. A world cried for the loss of a great leader and wonderful man, a family cried for the loss of a good husband, father and son. God works in strange and wonderful ways. Maybe all the HATE and distrust felt throughout the world was brought home with the sacrifice
of Jack Kennedy, to see the sorrow in the eyes of all the nations represented was a revelation. No one person could have brought these men of various color, creed and beliefs together in a house of God where FAITH is so strong. Let us not. let him have died in vain but let us all learn a lesson of love for family, country and God and have God live within each and everyone of us. I.et our FIRST (always) LADY, Jacqueline Kennedy, be a symbol by which we pattern our daily life. Bring dignity to each day and extend a consideration to our families. It mattered not to this wonderful LADY that her dress was blood-stained; all that mattered was to hold her Beloved close with a hope to lessen his pain. First the thought of her Beloved and secondly the need for strength. Yes, you may cry alone, Jacqueline Kennedy, but you have well earned your moment of sorrow away from the eyes of a Nation who grieve with you. You have earned respect and consideration from all women around the world; may we pattern ourselves in your way. May God in his infinite way make your sorrow a little less to bear for your great courage and devotion.
Our Mass for our deceased Sisters was attended in great numbers as it too was the day we prayed for our late President, John Kennedy. Breakfast that followed was enjoyed despite the quiet felt by all because of the great tragedy of the day. We must thank Tillie Kambick who extended herself to make this day a success. The reservations at the hotel were handled by Tillie and we all felt her great warmth. Her joy was twofold as a lovely orchid was presented to her daughter Betty Doherty, who as you know is our Mother of the Year. A wonderful time was had by all and lor those of you unable to come you missed a grand time. Come to our next function for sure. Sister Mary Mirkovich was pleased to tell us that her son, Ronald A. Mirkovich, is now a Plumbing Contractor. Seems to me almost impossible for Ron to have grown so quickly. (Just won’t admit I’m getting older.) If you are in need of plumbing work just call on Ron, 137 Apollo Street, San Francisco 24, Calif., Juniper 7-1094. Good Luck to you, Ron, in your venture.
Our Year of 1964 is now with us and we take this time to extend to each a wish that Good Health, Love and Happiness will dwell in your home this coming year. God Bless you All.

No. 14, Euclid, Ohio. After months of considerable planning and work, together with co-operation of many members, our bazaar of Nov. 17th turned out to be a great success. Special mention should be made of the ladies that baked, cooked and assisted in the various duties at the bazaar. Also
thanks to the members who made donations oL' money and gilts. All in all, it was a great day for our branch.
We wish speedy recovery to our sick members, who are as follows: Mrs. Josephine Poje, who is recovering following a surgical operation. Mrs. Josephine Plesničar, after a hospital stay, is recuperating at home. Miss Anna Skufcaof North Hollywood, Calif., is on the mend now after a vertebrae dislocation. Mrs. Jean Lour-in is at present confined in a hospital. Mrs. Pauline Krall is going to undergo surgery very shortly, and is now in liuclid-Glenville hospital.
Congratulations to Mrs. Antonia Suster, our recording secretary, who became a grandmother last month.

No. 16, So. Chicago, III. — Another year and another Christmas Party have passed, impressing delightful memories on our juvenile members; for us adults, the realization of how fast these things roll around. However, old and young were thrilled and everyone had a good time.
I	can’t say enough for this branch’s generosity. We received wonderful donations of prizes for the Games Party, etc. The refreshments were out of this world and plentiful. Some even made cash donations toward the cause.
Jean Buckvich, our chtairlady deserves all the gratitude one can give her for the way she shopped around looking for the best bargains. By speaking up she also induced the salesmen to sell to her for much less than the articles should have been. The children received some wonderful gifts considering how truly limited our funds were.
Gladys Buck supervised the tables and decorations, also made popcorn for the kiddies. The Spretnak girls, Marge and Sylvia, showed slides of our previous Christmas Parties and other Christmasy scenes, they also took pictures of this party. Mrs. Anna Buck, and her able assistant, Mary Maricich prepared the coffee and refreshments. Mary Krznarich did the pouring.
There is no one with such salesmanship ability as Marge Prebil. Through her efforts were made possible the covering of all our expenses.
Zinka Sesek’s portrayal of Santa Claus was genuine, casting that magic spell over our young fry. However, there was one little boy who kept looking for his mother, not realizing she was Santa Claus!
Jean Buckvich and Gladys Buck helped Santa with the distribution of gifts.
Our president, Katie Triller, served as our general “overseer”, making sure nothing was forgotten and guiding us all in various decisions that had to be made. Thanks to one and all.

My New Year greeting to our Spiritual Advisor, Supreme Officers, Branch Officers and Members of Slovenian Women’s Union. May the year 1964 bring you an abundance of joy and health and may our Lord bless you all!!!
1963	ended very sadly for the whole nation with the tragedy that happened to our wonderful First Family. The death of President John F. Kennedy was indeed shocking. May the eternal light burn forever in our hearts and to our new president, Lyndon B. Johnson, we wish continued courage to carry on the work for peace which the late president was striving to preserve and may he do all in his power for the betterment of our country and its people.

This year of 1964 is our National Convention Year. It will be heid at Chicago, III. on May 17 to 20, 1964 at the Morrison Hotel. All members are asked to attend the branch meetings in January and February to elect delegates who will represent the branch or branches to the best of her ability. Notice all rules and details which will be under the Supreme Secretary’s Report in this issue.

The Pre-Convention Campaign is in full swing now and it will end March 31, 1964. With the holidays over, let us all get busy and write up new members. Who shall be the Convention Queen and the Princess? Hurry up as time is getting short and before we know it, th€ convention will be here.

Congratulations to all newly elected and re-elected officers of each branch in the Union. Hope you shall1 perform your duties faithfully and efficiently during the coming year. Each officer is very important to the organization, especially the secretary as she is the one who comes in contact with each member and she must see to it that the dues are collected and sent to the Home Office. All that a member is asked to do is to attend the meetings once a month and offer support to the officers with ideas and your willingness to help. By paying dues on time, you will be able to do more for your branch and assure more progress for the year. Make it a new year’s resolution now to attend all meetings and pay dues on time! .

Welcome to our new columnist for Pots and Pans! She is Hermine Dicke, daughter of our founder Marie Prisland, the originator of the column. Hermine and her husband have two boys and two girls. I know that she shall do a wonderful job of Pots and Pans and more so, if you send her your favorite recipe. Every day we hear of new dishes and ways to make them, also, ideas for our homes or handiwork and useful hints. All these Hermine will appreciate receiving from you. Let us contribute whatever we can to make this page full of helpful hints and delicious recipes. Congratulations and great success to her and may she find it rewarding to follow in her mother’s footsteps. On Saturday, August 10, 1963, Miss Mary Agnes Yake was married to Mr. Walter Stepien. Mary and Walter were united in marriage by Rev. Jerome Sellak at St. George’s Church in So. Chicago. The bride was attired in a street length sequin studded lace over satin gown. Her crown was o£ seed pearls and sequins and she carried a bouquet of white carnations and stephanotis. Mr. Joseph Castig-lia, brother-in-law of the bride, was best man while Miss Diane Yake, niece of the bride was maid of honor. Diane wore a peach colored gown and matching pearl cluster headpiece.
The wedding reception was held for 200 guests at the Jovial Club in So. Chicago including relatives from Cleveland, Ohio and Milwaukee, Wis. The couple spent their honeymoon at Niagara Falls and Canada and are now malting their home at 10543 Avenue O in So. Chicago. Mr. Stepien is employed at Wisconsin Steel Works.

by our president, then, we proceeded with the regular business at hand. Mrs. Marolt, recording secretary, read all the rules and by-laws of the branch prior to election of officers. Again, it was the same as always “vse po starem!” Our vice-president-elect is Theresa Koschock and Mary Zgonce was elected as auditor -—■ these are the only two new officers. Everything was set as we have had in the past years. A delicious lunch was served and donated by the officers. Ice cream, carmel cake and coffee was on the menu. We also exchanged Christmas gilts. It’s a little late, but
1	wish each and every one of you a happy New Year. In closing, may I remind you each to check your assessment books and pay up the dues for the past year. It’s impossible to work with no money on hand. I would appreciate this very much — thanks for your co-operation. Barbara Rosandich
No. 23, Ely, Minn. — Our December meeting was hold at Eiik’s Inn witli the annual Christinas Banquet at 6:30 preceeded by cocktails. There were 30 members present. A Christmas motif was used on the tables with red candles and pine boughs and, of course, a Christmas tree. Mrs. Barbara Brennan and Mrs. Ann Rowe had charge of the table decorations and Mrs. Molly Zupančič and Mrs. Barbara Rosandich took care of the arrangements for the cocktail hour. A gift exchange also took place before the business meeting.
The yearly meeting was opened with prayer by president, Barbara Brennan. All new officers were elected as follows: president, Miss Mary Shikonya, vice-president, Mrs. Stephanie Vrane-sich, treasurer, Mrs. Mary Zgonc, rec. sec’y, Mrs Jay Boldine and reporter, Mrs. Margaret Somrock. No. 23, Ely, Minn. On Nov. 3, 1963 we celebrated our 35th Anniversary with 85 members present for the meeting. We made it brief so that we could all enjoy the program. Our charter members were honored at this time. They are Katherine Slogar, Mary Gornick, Katherine Kapsch and especially honored was Frances Tom-sich who is 91 years old and still alert and able to be with us at the
meeting. It seemed she surely enjoyed herself. You will see our charter members on the photo accompanying this article. An accordion selection was played by John Pucel; community singing was led by Mary Hutar and there were slides shown by Mary Comish taken while she was visiting Germany and Yugoslavia last year.
Bunch was served by Molly Zupan-cich and her committee; a chicken salad, rolls, cake and ice cream.
One of our members, Margaret Shuster, an expert on cake decorating, baked a cake for this occasion. Thank you, Margaret.
On Dec. 1st, we held our monthly meeting with only 32 members present — a very poor showing. The weather had something to do with it, I believe.

No. 25, Cleveland, Ohio. — Good health and lots ot luck to all, this New Year 19G4. We at our branch are preparing interesting activities for every month. From Jan. to Dec. the members will find something new and different at br. no. 25. The meetings have been well attended and the ladies enjoy seeing each other. There are among us all age groups, blending understanding talks and topics, laughter, smiles and warm hellos. If you haven’t had time to come to the meetings in the Panel Room, then yon are missing that ol’ time flavor with domače folks, and prijazna zabava.
Josephine Golinski, our secretary, generously donates after meeting snacks, manages to serve and accommodate anyone and everyone that attends. She collects dues as early as

No. 32, Euclid, Ohio. Our December meeting was very well attended, regardless of the weather. How time flies. Christmas and then, New Years — over so soon. Our meeting on January 7, 19C4 is very Important so we can decide upon activities for the coming year.
In December we had election of officers but there were no changes made. They are, as last year: Spiritual leader, Rev. Fr. Celesnik; pres., Theresa Potokar; vice-pres., Frances Perme; sec’y, Lillian Vehovec; treas., Molly Gregorc; rec. sec’y, Anna Teka-vec; English reporter, Anna Tekavec and Slovenian reporter, Frances Perme. Auditors are Annie Godlar, and Annie Chinchor. Our meetings are on the 1st Tues. of each month in the basement hall of St. Christine’s Church. There are no meetings in July and August.
4:20 p. m. A wonderful officer and member. It would be pleasant if dues be paid up-to-date to help her keep the books in order. Thank you.
In February there will be a Valentine party, you are most cordially invited. With the new campaign on, join our organization and participate in countless hours of carefree fun and enjoyment with us. My father who was born on Lincoln’s birthday, died Nov. 22, 1943 and was buried Nov. 25, 1943. His initials were J. F. K. (Joseph Frank Koporc). A wonderful father — as was our late President — and loved by young and old alike.

We have many good times. Three times a year we celebrate birthdays with gala parties in honor of those who have celebrated in the months between. Again, in Oct. we have our annual anniversary party and birthday celebration. This year of 1964 will be the 35th anniversary of Br. 32 — keep that in mind for future reference. Of course, in December, we have our annual Christmas party and birthdays; also exchanges of gifts.
The drive is on for new members. At the Dec. meeting we met four new members who were sworn in as Br. 32 members. We are very thankful to Genevieve Calta for enrolling them. Welcome to Mrs. Frances Gulich, Mrs. Edith Tegel, Mrs. Pauline Marik and Mrs. Barbara Strumbly. These are three sisters and a sister-in-law of the Strumbly family.
Our sisters make it possible that we have goodies for the future meetings. The following gave $1.00 for birthday fund: Jennie Jagodnik, Mary Aschul, Angela Barkovich, Mary Rupar, Barbara Baron, Eleanor Gatewood. To the treasury, Mary Drenilt gave $1.00. No. 33, Duluth, Minn. Because New Year’s Day came on our regular meeting night, the date was changed to Jan. 8th, that is, the 2nd Wednesday of Jan. This is for Jan. only. In Feb. we resumo on the first Wednesday.
Mrs. Frank Burger who recently returned home with her husband from a European tour, will show colored slides from the different countries they had visited. I’m sure these will be most interesting to us all. The new officers will serve lunch and we hope there’ll be another large attendance — please?
The meeting was most gratifying to all because of the great number of members. Much can be accomplish ed where there are more voices and opinions heard. Mrs. Frances Kaplenk was selected as the Mother of the Year. She is very worthy of this nonor. She raised a large family by herself as she was widowed many years ago. Our present officers have served in their offices so well in the past that they were again voted in for another year. They are: Rose Ann Munsell, pres., Ruth Boben, vice-pres., Mrs. Mary Shubitz, sec’y-treas., Suntina Spehar, rec. sec’y, Frances Blatnik, Liz Smolnikar and Sophie, trustees and yours truly, reporter. Everything else remains as before, too.
Happy Birthday Greetings were extended to Mrs. Lasky whose 80th birthday was on the day of our meeting. Many more happy and healthy birthdays, Mrs. Lasky. A donation of $50.00 was given to our Church Fund from the treasury. Election of a delegate to attend the national convention in May at Chicago will be held at our Feb. meeting. So, let’s all try and be present to select one who will represent us well.

No. 34, Soudan, Minn. — Our November meeting was held on Thursday evening Nov. 21st with a good attendance—and everyone enjoying the evening’s activities. However, the next day the tragic death of our beloved President John F. Kennedy saddened our whole community as it did the entire world. We, too, spent every spare moment watching the events on TV and our pastor Father John Golobicli celebrated a Requiem High Mass at 9 a. m. on the day of his funeral here at St. Martin’s church

Here are a couple of recipes demonstrated at the Bazaar of the combined Ohio Branches in Cleveland on October 13, 1963.
WOW IE CAKE
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt J/2 cup cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
Sift together in ungreased pan, 9x13“.
2	tablespoons vinegar % cup salad oil
2	teaspoons vanilla
2	cups cold water
Mix together with top ingredients right in baking pan. Do not grease the pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. (“The children just loved it”).

1 package Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme Cake Mix 1 box lemon jello % cup cooking oli % cup water
4	eggs
Mix together in mixer for 4 min. Pour in greased and floured 9x13" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 mln. Take out of oven. Poke hot cake with fork to bottom, all over the cake.
Frosting:	2	cups powdered sugar
Juice of 1 orange or 2 lemons or % cup bottled juice. Mix together and spread over hot cake. (I used the above frosting on the WOWIE CAKE substituting mik for the fruit juice).

I’ve made the strudel and it came out just fine. I am keeping this recipe for further use. I had given it to my friend who also had luck with it although she never made a strudel before. —Ruth Sheck

BOWLERS IN MID-SEASON SWING!
We celebrated our Christmas with the help of all members. It was quite a gathering and I’ll have a report on it in the next issue. In November, we celebrated a late Hallowe’en party. Frances Seitz brought in a fancy, funny hat for each one to wear. If we didn’t want to wear it, we had to pay a fine. No one was fined, we all obeyed.
We hope Mary Kobe’s mother is on the mend and will be feeling fine again. Sophie Kaplan was enjoying the Florida sunshine for a time.

We know that every mother is entitled to this honor for it is she who carries the burdens of a family. But, as only one can be selected, we feel that our sister member is a good choice. Congratulaions, Mary, we know that you will carry the banner Well. Ood bless you. Sister Katherine Marolt has undergone surgery again. We all wish her Godspeed to a rapid recovery. We are praying for her that this will be the last time she’ll have to undergo such pain. Keep up your spirits and may God be with you, Katherine. Our Thanksgiving sweeper was held November 25. Prizes were awarded to a girl from each team with the highest number of pins bowled over her average. The winners were: Gen Klainsek 86 over her average, Millie Ellena 70, Millie bowled a nice 427 (142-140-145). Keep it up Millie. On our sick list we had Mrs. Severinski and Mrs. Angeline Bernard, both members who spent time at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Get-well cards were sent to them. Best wishes to all our members who have been feeling ill. Mmes. Josephine Pa-valinic and Johanna Leskovec were patients at North Side Hospital during the month of November until God took them to their permanent home in heaven. Sympathy was extended to Mrs. Anna Marie Racik and family on the loss of her loving mother, Mrs. Pavalinic and to Mrs. John Arci on the loss of her beloved mother, Mrs. Leskovec. We pray for their souls.
After the business meeting, social hour was enjoyed, games were played with prizes going to Mrs. Prances Serca and Mrs. Matilda Cigolle. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Mary Turk and Mrs. Frances Serca. It will be a brand New Year when you read this report, so to all our members and their families, we wish a “Happy New Year” — one of good health and much happiness. last meeting was held at the regular place, the American Slovene Club on Nov. 17th. Sunshine prize was won by Mrs. Grzely. We are happy to hear that there are no sick members reported on our list. This should make a good attendance at coming meetings.
Plans for making “krvave klobase” in. December were arranged with Mrs. Drobnick’s home as the place for the all-day work session.
The annual Christmas party was planned for Dec. 21st at 6:00 p.m. at Hellreigel’s Inn at Mentor, Ohio. This spot is owned and operated by the son of our well-known and active member, Mrs. Kočevar. A gift exchange was also to be held after the banquet. With this cold weather settling in, we see all the ladies at our meetings enjoying the visiting and sociability among the group. Please attend and voice your opinions, so that the running of our branch won’t slip by default into the hands of those who are either incapable, disinterested, corrupt or not representative of the membership. Remember always that a branch will be just as good as its members make it.

The news of the untimely death of our president, John F. Kennedy, came as a great shock. His departure was sudden, unexpected and particularly distressing. No matter what our political leanings are, our branch mourns this great loss.

In closing, I would like to express to the membership of our branch, my great appreciation for the cooperation you have given me as president. Your enthusiastic support has been an inspiration and great comfort to me. Nevertheless, I extend to the membership my heartfelt thanks. See you all at the January 8th meeting.

branch had the honor of having one of our members as a mayoralty candidate tor Bedford Hgts., Ohio, Lucille Reed. She was a strong competition for the Mayor.
It was nice to see Mara DuBay at our November meeting; she had a wonderful trip to Europe. All is well now, however, she had a misfortune while there and her husband became ill and had to be hospitalized.
Mary Szabo really is up to par these days after her terrific seizure at Suburban Hospital as a cardiac patient.
In December, we again held our pot-luck supper — each member bringing her favorite covered dish. We also collected one dollar from each member for a charitable Christmas gift.
Activities have varied these past few months after each meeting —• we had either a copper party or a jewelry party. Our card party was also a success, thanks to all our members and friends who helped make it such a success.
Please ladies, those of you who have not been active, come to our next meeting and take part in some of our activities. We appreciate the presence of Fr. Pauline, our spiritual director at the monthly meetings. We find his talks very interesting. No. 105, Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Mary Urbančič opened her lovely home for our Nov. meeting. She gave us a grand reception. Served a delicious luncheon and included was that ever wonderful potica, also other refreshments.
A million thanks from all of us. There were an unusual number of members present. We had a grand time visiting with all. Then, Mrs. McGee received the hostess gilt which was a pair of crocheted cozy-warm slippers, grand to wear while at home TV viewing! Mrs. Fulvia Rosa invited us to her homo for our annual Christmas party. We will report on that event next month. We usually have such a marvelous time with gifts for exchanging, etc. I am sure it will be the same at this year’s party.
Our treasurer, Katherine Musick left for Rock Springs, Wyoming to pick Up her 80 year old mother and keep her with her for the rest of her remaining years. Could a daughter give her mother a better Christmas gift? No, I don’t think there is a better one than the love of a daughter for her mother. Nice thought, Katherine. A reward will come to you in due time. My very best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year to all!

“Zdaj nimam nikogar, ki bi se z menoj igral,”
je potožil triletni sinček predsednika Kennedyja dan po očetovi tragični smrti. Z očkom sta bila velika prijatelja.
Petek, 22tega novembra 1963, bo ostal vedno v žalostnem spominu ne samo nam Amerikancem, temveč tudi vsemu civiliziranemu svetu. Ta dan je dal svoje mlado življenje — za visoke in čiste ideale — naš predsednik John F. Kennedy. Zadela ga je smrtna krogla zahrbtnega morilca, sovražnika svobodnega sveta, ter nam odvzela priljubljenega, tudi od nasprotnikov spoštovanega predsednika, ženi in otrokama pa dobrega soproga in ljubljenega očeta.
Svet je ostrmel! Nihče ni pričakoval, da bi v sedajni, takozvani “prosvitljeni” dobi, kdo mogel storiti kaj tako groznega.
Mrtvi predsednik je bil iz Dallasa v Texasu, kjer je bil umorjen, najprvo prepeljan v Belo hišo, na to pa v državni Kapitol, kjer je v zaprti rakvi počivalo njegovo truplo. Mrtvega predsednika je obiskalo nad četrt milijona ljudi.
K pogrebu so dospeli zastopniki 91 svetovnih držav. Vse vlade na svetu so poslale sožalja, le Kitajska je celo v smrti smešila umrlega predsednika, z nespodobnimi karikaturami.
Na pogrebu so bili trije vladarji:	francoski
predsednik De Gaulle, grška kraljica Frederika ter etiopski cesar Haile Selassie. Ostale vlade so poslale svoje najvišje predstavnike kot zastopnike. Jugoslavijo sta zastopala dva visoka državnika.
Predsednikova vdova, Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, je svoje občutke nad groznim dejanjem obvladala pogumno in z čudovito kontrolo. — V njeno naročje se je zgrudil smrtno zadeti predsednik. Bila je z njim, ko je umiral v bolnišnici; poljubila ga v zadnje slovo in mu v roke stisnila svoj poročni prstan. Njegovo truplo je spremljala iz Dallasa v Washington. Za pogrebom je šla užaloščena, a visoko zravnana. Le enkrat so dogodki zrušili njeno zdržnost. ko so ji na pokopališču ob koncu obreda vojaki v spomin poklonili ameriško zastavo, s katero je bila ves čas pregrnjena predsednikova rakev. Solznih oči je pritisnila zastavo na prsa. Iz pokopališča je odšla k otrokom, ob polnoči se pa vrnila ter na svež grob položila šopek šmarnic, predsedniku ljube cvetlice.
Predsednikova šestletna hčerka Karolinca, je pri pogrebu bridko jokala, a nepozabni vtis, ki je moral ganiti ves svet gledajoč dogodke na televiziji, je napravil sinko John. Videč vojake salutirati rakvi njegovega očeta, je dvignil ročico nad čelo tudi on — ter po vojaško salutiral mrtvemu očku. Ob tem prizoru je bilo milijone rosnih oči.
S predsednikom Kennedyjem je Amerika izgubila velikega in modrega državnika, svet pa iskrenega zagovornika miru. Mr. Kennedy je bil predsednik z dušo in telesom. Naj bi njegovo delo za mir in izboljšanje svetovnih razmer ne bilo za-
man, temveč imelo trajne posledice za ohranitev miru in zmajnšanje nepetosti in sovraštva med svetom.
Naj naš priljubljeni, duhoviti, mladi predsednik v miru počiva na pokopališču narodnih junakov v Arlingtonu!

Osebna pripomba:—Predsednik Kennedy je kot kandidat obiskal tudi Sheboygan. Demokratska stranka našega okraja mu je v hotelu Foeste priredila banket, na katerega sem bila povabljena. Po banketu sta se s soprogo z gosti rokovala. Ko sem mu stisnila roko, sem rekla: “Upam, da držim roko našega bodočega presednika!” — “Tudi jaz upam tako! Hvala lepa!” je odvrnil Mr. Kennedy.
Imela sem torej v svojem življenju to čast, da sem stisnila roko vsaj enemu ameriškemu predsedniku. — M. P.

Vsem, ki to kolono čitajo, iskreno želim veselo in zdravo Novo leto! Naj vam novo leto prinese srečo in zadovoljnost srca!
Ob pričetku novega leta navadno ocenimo staro leto. Ali je bilo dobro za nas? Nam je izpolnilo to, kar smo pričakovali? — In kakšno je bilo staro leto za našo organizacijo? Ali je bilo živahno in razgibano?
Pregled našega društvenga življenja nam dokazuje, da so nekatere podružnice imele prav lepe in zanimive programe, druge spet ne. Pevski nastopi, programi državnih konvencij, programi za Materin dan, kartne zabave kegljaški sport, praznovanje obletnic, večerje, itd. — vse to je prineslo mnogo življenja v naše vrste. Najbolj živahne so menda bile podružnice v državi Ohio. Kot že več let zaporedoma so tudi preteklo leto meseca oktobra priredile skupen nastop, s sodelovanjem članic vseh podružnic v Ohio. Državna predsednica, delavna in za Zvezo vedno vneta gospa Ella Starin, o tem poroča takole:
“Vse Ohijslce podružnice, so se strnile v velik delokrog. Priredile smo bazar, združen s prodajo in demonstracijo peciva ter razstava doma sešitih oblek. Starejše članice so se odlikovale v kuhinji, kjer se je peklo in cvrlo, mlajše so pa demonstrirale kejke in štrudelne. Nastop članic v doma sešitih oblekah je bil sijajen. Tudi naša glavna predsednica, Tončka Turek, je ta dan bila “Mannequin.” Doma sešite obleke so bile lepe in so pristojale bolj kot one, ki jih za drag denar kupimo v prodajalni. Na stojnicah je bilo stotine krasno izdelanih stvari kot predpasniki, robčki, blazine, ogrinjala, itd. Nastop mladinskih krožkov je zelo ugajal, kot je pričal ogromen aplavz pri vsaki izvajani točki. Marie Prisland kadetke so se tudi fejst postavile. Dobiček, bo precejšen ki se bo razdelil med sodelujoče podružnice.”
Delavnost podružnic v Ohio bi naj bila vzgled vsem ostalim podružnicam naše Zveze. Že res, da povsod ne morejo kaj tako obsežnega doseči, a naj poskusijo z malim. Naprimer: Vsaka podružnica bi naj imela vsaj en lep program na leto in to bi bil meseca maja za Materin dan. Za take programe ni treba kake posebne umetnosti, pač pa le dobro voljo in nekoliko potrpežljivosti. Vsaka podružnica ima mladinski odelek. Pritegnite mladino v tak program!
Kadar ima podružnica lcartno zabavo, je lepa prilika pokazati domačo umetnost. Članice rade šivajo in znajo izgotoviti lepe stvari. Vsaka bi naj sešila en predpasnik in ga podružnici poklonila. Izkupiček bi seveda šel v blagajno.
Na kegljaških turnejah bi ravno tako imele še kaj posebnega. Morda prodajo domačega peciva, ki se vedno dobro razpeča. Državne konvencije nudijo še posebno priliko za kaj širšega kot samo zborovanje. Pokažite ob takih prilikah nadarjenost naših članic, saj jih nikdo ne prekosi v kvačkanju in pletenju. Razstavljeni izdelki bi prinesli lepo reklamo podružnici, blagajno pa gmotno podprli.
Pripravite čajanko za članice in tuje goste. Servirajte čaj, kavo, ali "pink tea”, poleg okusnih sendvičev ali koščkom dobrega jabolčnega ali sirovega zavitka (Strudel.)
Razstava doma sešitih oblek bi bila že krona programa. Lahko bi se obdržala na državnih konvencijah, ali pa v posebnih programih. Ženske smo radovedne. Rade vidimo delo drugih. Nastop članic v doma sešitih oblekah bi zanimal vse. Poskusite!
Kot druge organizacije, moramo tudi mi na žalost priznati, da ni več tiste živahnosti v našem društvenem
življenju kot je nekdaj bilo. Vzrok je menda, ker smo se me, ki smo ves čas za Zvezo delale, utrudile, mladina pa ima tisoč svojih problemov, da nima veliko časa za društveno delo. Vkljub temu z zadovoljstvom konštati-ram, da imamo mnogo mladine v naših odborih in v članstvu, ki se lepo udejstvuje v Zvezinih aktivnostih. Obdržimo mladino in dajmo ji z našim delom lep vzgled!
Pri čitanju poročil v ZARJI vidim, da imajo mnoge podružnice lope prireditve tekom leta, vseeno je pa nekaj takih, ki iz raznih vzrokov tega ne storijo. Pričnimo novo leto s sklepom, da bo letos VSAKA podružnica imela kakšno prireditev, ali po seji, ali s posebnim programom. Kjer radi malega števila članic ne zmorejo večjih programov, naj bi imele vsaj takozvani “Pot Luck Supper”. Nekatere podružnice to že imajo. Vsaka prinese na sejo kako doma pripravljeno jed, jo postavi na mizo in članice si iz prinešenih lončkov in skledic pripravijo izvrstno večerjo. Taka večerja dvakrat dobro tekne, ker je zavžita v lepem društvenem krogu med prijaznimi sosestrami. Po večerji se vrši zborovanje.
Kaj ne, pišem in dajem navodila kot bi še vedno bila voditeljica. Zveza mi je pri srcu tako danes kot mi je bila prvi dan, zato bi rada videla, da se obdrži navdušenje za delo in Zvezo, ki je svoj čas prevevalo naše vrste. Ne držimo rok križem, češ, naj delajo ta mlade, temveč zavihajmo rokave in bodimo aktivne dokler moremo. Premlado ste še za v pokoj! Sl opite na plan in poprimite, kjer je treba, da bo naša lepa organizacija, za katero smo veliko žrtvovale, rastla in cvetela v lepo bodočnost.

Človek se uči dokler živi, pravi pregovor. — Ljubezen do učenja, zmožnost za sprejemanje novih naukov, zanimanje za napredek, aktivnost in želja storiti nekaj za izboljšanje človeške družbe znači mladost duha, čeprav je telo že ostarelo.
Gube na obrazu še ne pomenijo starosti. Ubit duh nam da občutek kot da smo na svetu že sto let. Duševno mlade lahko ostanemo	s tem, da se	zanimamo	za	vse,	kar
se godi okrog nas, da	poglabljamo	svoje znanje	ter	smo
aktivne, v kolikor nam zdravje dopušča.
Da smo se učile v mladosti jo naravno. A kaj je bila ta šola v primeru z ono, ko nas je življenje vzelo v svojo trdo šolo. Koliko znanja, koliko spretnosti in potrpljenja smo potrebovale, da	nas ni upognil križ,	ki	je slonel
na naših ramah.
Moderna doba tirja od žene vedno več. Ona mora razumeti poleg gospodijnstva in maternih dolžnosti še delavsko vprašanje. Vedeti mora nekaj o politiki in zgodovini ter slediti ženskemu gibanju. Citati mora veliko, da je poučena o dnevnih dogodkih, da lahko sledi moževim nazorom in odgovarja otroškim poizvedbam, saj se vsa družina ozira nanjo, in jo posnema. Da ženi-materi je treba veliko znanja.
Pravijo da je mladost in lep obraz ženski zaklad, a najlepša oseba nima privlačnosti če je plitka, nevešča in če je ne krasi krepostna duša. Potrebno toraj je ,da negujemo telo, še bolj moramo negovati svoj dtih! Z vednim učenjem, z dorim čtivom,	s pravo družbo si bomo	izpolnjevale svojo izobrazbo ter	ohranile mlad duh, vedro	in	ve-
selo dušo, čeprav se nam življenje nagiba k zatonu.

Nekdaj je živela muha, bila lačna Lin suha, in na veji je sedela ter takole je^pela:
“Če bi jaz ne bila muha,	ne imela bi trebuha,
mnogo lažje bi letela in	brez dela bi živela.
Ko ne bilo bi trebuha, ne bi bilo treba kruha, bi ne pila, bi ne jedla, vendar bila bi debela.”
Veja je odgovorila: “Kaj boš, muha, se jezila!
Bi trebuha ne imela, pa bi tudi ne živela.”
To zaslišala je ptička, ki lepo na veji čičlca.
Pa je muho pozobala in takole je dejala:
“Ko bi ti ne bila muha, kje bi bila zame juha?
Zdaj ne bodeš več skrbela, da brez trebuha bi živela.”

KAJ JE NAS NAMEN?
Današnji človek živi tako kakor da bi živel večno na tem svetu. Kar trenutno poželi njegovo srce ali njegova narava potem poseže njegova roka. Misel, da je odgovoren pred Bogom za svoje življenje in prestopke svojega življenja, mu je tuja. Če pa se taka misel kdaj pojavi, jo smatra za otroško domišljijo.
Iz svetega pisma pa jasno razberemo, da ie Bog ustvaril človeka po svoji podobi. Telo je vzel iz zemlje, a dušo mu je vdihnil. Položil pa je vanjo tudi hrepenje po sreči po Bogu. Položil pa je Bog v našo dušo tudi vero, da bo večno živela. Vere v neumrjočnost, je rekel nekdo, Bog m zapisal ne v kamen, ne v pergament, zapisal jo je v jasni razum in v čuvstvo srca. Hotel je da bi te vere nihče zavreči ne mogel, ne da bi ponižal samega sebe. vera v življenje po smrti je splošna last človeškega rodu. oe smo rojem za večnost potem je tudi naš namen večen.
° odpremo Prve strani našega katekizma takoj dobimo jasen odgovor, zakaj je človek na svetu. Zato smo na svetu, da Boga spoznavamo, ga ljubimo, mu služimo in se večno zveličamo. S tem je rečeno, da smo ustvarjeni od Boga za Boga.
Ko nam je Bog vdihnil svojega duha ali dušo, nam je s tem položil v srce tudi hrepenje po sreči, po povratku v Očetovo hišo. Zmota človekova je v tem, da išče sreče pri stvareh na svetu so omejene in končne. Naše srce pa hrepeni po neskončnem. Aleksander Veliki je jokal ko je slišal, da so še drugi svetovi, ki jih on ne more’
podjarmiti. Podjarmil je pol sveta a ga to ni zadovljilo. Napolnilo ga je le z večjim nemirom.
Kako britko je bil razočaran kralj Salamon. Takole pravi: “Nakopičil sem si zlata in srebra, zaklade kraljev in dežel. Postal sem velik in sem premagal vse. Karkoli so si poželele moje oči, ničesar jim nisem odrekel, svojemu srcu nisem zabranil nobenega veselja. Na to sem premišljeval o vseh svojih delih in o trudu, ki sem ga imel pri izvrševanju svojih del in glej vse je bila neči-mernost in obremenitev duha in ni dobička pod soncem.
Dobro je razumel to razmerje do stvari trapistovski brat Joachim. O njem je bilo znano, da je napravil obračun z Bogom. Predno je vstopil v trapistovski red, je bil gojitelj tobaka. V redu se je dvignil do velike svetosti in to samo zato, ker se je zavedal, da ljubimo stvari Ie zaradi Boga. Duhovnikove besede pri sv. maši: “po Njem, z Njim in v Njem,” so mu bile vodilo pri vrednotenju stvari. To je pravo človekovo razmerje do stvari.
Zastonj se mučijo tisti, ki skušajo zavreči vero v posmrtnost. Bog in njegova pravica ostane. Sam pravi: Jaz sem začetek in konec. Tisti, ki se upirajo Bogu na ta ali oni način, so nesrečni in bodo ostali nesrečni, če se ne obrnejo od svojih slabih potov in ne spremenijo svojega srca.
Ob novem letu imamo priliko pregledati preteklost. Napravimo obračun s samim seboj. Cilj, ki ga imamo pred seboj je jasen večna sreča pri Bogu. Od nas za-visi ali jo bomo dosegli. Vse kar je potrebno je—začnimo.
Srečno in blagoslovljeno novo leto vsem članicam in njihovim družinam.
DOPISI
Št. 3, Pueblo, Colo. Za vstop novega leta 1964, želim vsem glavnim u-radnicam, duhovnemu vodju in članicam srečo in zdravje vsak bodoči dan. Bog blagoslovi našo Zvezo, da bi napredovala v številu članstva in da bi smrt prizanesla vsem sosestram, ker vsako izgubo se občuti pri podružnicah.
Drage sestre! Pridna gospodinja in mati vedno skrbi, da je red v hiši. Tako moramo tudi me članice paziti za pomnožitev in napredek in na kaj bomo dobrega storile v novem letu. Pomnite, da dobro delo je naš ponos in najlepši ugled organizaciji.
Naša kartna zabava je dosegla lep Uspeh; blagajna se je povišala za Par sto. Pridnim članicam in prijateljem naše podružnice topla zahvala za udeležbo, darila in splošno pomoč do pozne ure. Pogrešale pa smo vse, ki ste doma ostali.
Sestra Milka Heningsman je zado-bila resne poškodbe pri padcu pred hišo ter je bila pod zdravniško oskrbo.
V	novembru je bilo pomanjkljivo po-ločilo, da je imela Anna Pucel iz •Tolieta prijeten obisk pri svojih sestrah Milki Heningsman in Mary Po-der. Mrs. Pucel ima še dve sestri v Jolletu: Josephine Žnidaršič in Johan-ca Mance. Skupaj je pet sester in so vse članice Zveze. Sestri Henings-man želimo, da bi kmalu popolnoma okrevala ter se ji zahvaljujemo za velikodušen dar v blagajno.
Bolezen že dolgo muči sestro Katherine Krasovich in mora pogosto-nat v bolnišnico. Sestra Josephine Reems, ki je bila na operaciji, se počasi zdravi na očesu. Vse naše bolne sestre priporočani za prijazne obiske 111 molitve ter želim, da se vsem zdravje povrne v kratkem.
S popravkom ponovno poročam o smrti Franka Rus, ki je oče naše tajnice Frances Simonich in Gregor Paulovec. Umrli sta Mary Klobučar in Barbara Kalinger. Vsi umrli imajo sorodnike pri naši podružnici. Bog jim podeli večno plačilo v nebesih. Preostalim izrekamo naše sožalje.
Dne 2. novembra smo imeli koncert slovenskega okteta. Peli so odlično! Marsikatera pesem je privabila solze v oči. Navzoči so z navdušenjem klicali pevce nazaj na oder. Vsi časopisi so z odlikovanjem poročali o krasnih in dovršenih nastopih naših Slovencev, katerih obisk je bil povsod dobrodošel. Upamo, da so odnesli neizbrisno lepe spomine tudi od nas, ameriških Slovencev. Želimo jim srečen povratek v domovino, kakor tudi, da bi nas še obiskali. Vso skrb za program koncerta in pecev je imela v rokah pridna članica Helen Miklich.
Pri sklepu dopisa dodam, da nas je vse globoko zadela prerana in kruta smrt predsednika John F. Kennedy naše tako opevane dežele USA. Njegova ločitev od nas se ne da opisat. Tolaži nas zavest, da uživa plačilo pri Bogu, saj mu je zvesto služil v življenju, kakor malo kdo. Novemu predsedniku L. B. Johnson želimo, da bi ga Bog spremljal in imel pod svojim varstvom, da bo sledil in posnemal vodstvo predsednika John F. Kennedy.

Št. 6, Barberton, Ohio. “Prikašljala je starka zima, naguban ima suh o-braz, — s kljukasto brado pokima, iz neba vsiplje sneg in mraz . . . ” 'Pako je pri nas v Barbertonu, toda vse to naših članic nič ne ustraši,
kajti decemberska seja je bila kar dobro biskana. Izvoljen je bil ves stari odbor:	preds. J. Killoran, pod-
preds. Paulina Barbarich, tajnica moja malenkost, zapis. K. Stopar, blag. J. Okoliš. Nadzornice: Frances Žagar in J. Grbec. Sprejeti sta bile dve novi članici:	Ann	Milavec in
Mary Stražišar. Prisrčno dobro došli v našo sredo. Dobili smo tudi 2 nova v naš mladinski oddelek. Po seji smo se pa kar dobro zabavale z dobrotami, ki so jih preskrbele in napekle naše članice, ki so fine kuharice in seveda tudi kelnarice, tako da nam je čas kar prehitro potekal in morale smo se raziti s prijetnimi spomini. Na seji sem izročila tudi pozdrave našim članicam, katere mi je prav pred sejo poslala ses. E. Starin iz Clevelanda. Bile smo vesele, ker se nas naša drz. predsednica spomini tudi telefo-nično. Hvala lepa in Bog z vami!
Ko boste brale ta dopis bodo božični prazniki že za nami, upam, da ste jih praznovale v zadovoljstvu in sreči. Spomnite se naših bolnih članic in jih obiščite.

JANUAR IN FEBRUAR sta meseca, določena za izvolitev delegatk 13. redne konvencije SŽZ. Članice se pozivajo, da se udeležijo sej in pomagajo izvoliti najbolj sposobne delegatke in namestnice, ki bodo zastopale podružnice. Spodaj so navedena poglavja iz Zvezinih pravil in določb, ki se nanašajo na izvolitev delegatk.
Trinajsta redna konvencija SŽZ se vrši v dneh od 17. do 20. maja 1964 v Chicago, 111.
Delegatka in njena namestnica je lahko vsaka članica, ki Ima plačan asesment, je praktična katoličanka, ameriška državljanka za časa volitev delegatk in je stara vsaj 21 let. Mora biti članica Zveze nad eno leto in se tisto leto pred konvencijo udeležiti najmanj pet sej svoje podružnice. To pa ne zadeva novih podružnic (Konvenčno leto se smatra od prvega januarja prejšnjega leta do prvega januarja konvenčnega leta.)
Vsaka podružnica, ki ima plačan asesment za svoje članice in ki šteje od 100 do 300 članic v odraslih oddelkih (A in B) prvega dne meseca januarja konvenčnega leta, je upravičena do ene delegatke za konvencijo. Podružnice, ki štejejo 30'l do 600 članic, so upravičene do dveh delegatk. Podružnice z več kot 601 članic so upravičene do treh delegatk za konvencijo. Nobena podružnica ne more poslati več kot tri delegatke, ne oziraje se na skupno število članstva.
Podružnice, ki štejejo manj kot 100 članic, glavna tajnica združi, da si skupno izvolijo delegatko in pri tem naj združi podružnice, ki so si najbližje. Združitev se vrši na podlag števila članstva, ki ga take podružnice izkazujejo prvi dan meseca januarja konvenčnega leta. Združene po-
družnice morajo skupno šteti 12'0 članic, da so upravičene do ene delegatke. Glavna tajnica sestavi red, po katerem se volijo delegatke Združenih podružnic. Volitve se vršijo meseca februarja.
Podružnice, ki ne pošljejo svoje delegatke, lahko zastopstvo poverijo delegatki kake druge podružnice, ali pa kateri izmed gl. odbornic, ki je na konvenciji navzoča. Glas takih podružnic je veljaven le, če podružnica šteje 100 članic.
Delegatke in njih namestnice se volijo meseca januarja ali februarja konvenčnega leta. Volitve, ki se vrše pred prvim januarjem ali kasneje kot prvega marca konvenčnega leta, se smatrajo za neveljavne. Delegatke se volijo tajno (z listki), nominacija je pa javna. Ako je nominiranih več kandidatk in če pri prvi volitvi ne prejme nobena nadpolovične večine oddanih glasov, se vrši ožja volitev med tistima dvema kandidatoma, ki imata največ glasov. Kandidatka, ki pri teli volitvah dobi nadpolo-vično večino oddanih glasov, je pravilno izvoljena. Pri podružnici, kjer se voli več kot. ena delegatka, se voli vsako posebej. Ko so delegatke izvoljene, se volijo namestnice po istem načinu.
Soglasne volitve so veljavne, če se s tem strinjajo vse na seji navzoče članice ali če je bila nominirana le ena kandidatka.
Da so poverilnice delegatk veljavne, morajo biti podpisane od predsednice, tajnice in blagajničarke podružnice.
Zveza krije iz svoje blagajne vozne stroške delegacije do mesta konvencije in obratno (round trip fare in coach.)

St. 13, San Francisco, Calif. V novembru smo imeli med nami naše slavne pevce iz Slovenije. Veliko se je že pisalo o krasnih nastopih slovenskega okteta in bi rada, da pride tudi iz zapada pohvala, katero so želi ob vsakem nastopu. Ameriški časopisi so tudi lepo ocenili njihove nastope, saj so imeli v svojem programu mnogo umetnih pesmi, za katere so bili na odru v večernih oblekah in za Slovenski del pa v slikovitih narodnih nošah. Čudovito lepo so donele naše narodne pesmi. "Večerni Ave” je globoko ginil vse navzoče in melodična pesem o “'lipi” je segla vsem v srca, da se je zdelo kot bi nas res obsipala s svojim cvetjem, kakor je bilo pred davnimi dni pod domačo lipo. Sploh vsaka pesem je imela svoj velik in globok učinek na občinstvo. Seveda “Ribniška” je pa bila nad vse mojstersko in ubrano zapeta. Za nas, ki smo tako daleč na zapadu je bil ta koncert še posebno velik užitek, ker je to izrednost prve vrste. Vsi želimo, da bi jih še kdaj slišali.
Pevcem se je še posebno dopadlo tukaj, ker lega San Francisco je zelo lepa in so se izrazili, da ste le dve najlepši mesti na svetu in to San Francisco in Ljubljana, kjer bi najrajši preživeli svoje dni. Direktor okteta g. V. Vodušek je brat našega župnika č. g. Vitala Vodušek. Za koncert je neumrno delala slov. pevka Anna Fabian Judnich, kakor tudi njen
soprog John Judnich, ki je predsednik slovenskega izobraževalnega kluba v San Franciscu. Imela sta krasno pomoč v svoji prijateljih, katerih hčerke so nastopile v narodnih nošah. Hvala vsem odbornikom, ki so za nas pripravili užitka polni večer.
Pred par meseci sta praznovala zlato poroko sestra Mary Klepec in njen mož. To je res lep dogodek za dva, ki sta se vedno ljubila in doživela 50 letnico njune zveze. Iskrene čestitke z željo, da bi dočakala biserni jubilej. Tem potoni se zahvaljujem v imenu pevcev naše cerkve za povabilo v slovenskem domu. Sestre naše podružnice so imele skupno sveto mašo in potem zajtrk v elitnim hotelu v mes-stu, to je bilo v novembru.
Vse nas je globoko pretresla smrt
našega priljubljenega predsednika John F. Kennedy, ki je svoje življenje dal za svoj narod. Ker je bil prvi katoličan v Beli hiši, je to za nas dvojna izguba. Njegov spomin bo ostal v zgodovini kot eden najbojšili predsednikov. Bil je mož plemenitega značaja, visoko naobražen ter dober za malega človeka, prijatelj do vsakega in to po vsem svetu. Vse ga je ljubilo in spoštovalo. Njemu prilegajo besede iz evangelija sv. Janeza: večje ljubezni nima noben človek, kakor tisti, ki svoje življenje, da za prijatelja. Molimo, da bi nam Bog dal naslednika, ki bo dober in plemenit mož pri vodstvu dežele, kakor je bil pokojni John F. Kennedy. Naj mu sveti večna luč sveta in duša uživa večni raj!	Poldica	Podgornik
Št. 14, Euclid, Ohio. Poročilo de-cemberske seje. Kar veselje je bilo videti res tako veliko udeležbo članic. Seveda smo za ta večer imele mnogo stvari na programu. Vsaka je bila radovedna kako je potekel naš jesenski bazar dne 17. nov. Ker je tisto nedeljo bilo tudi drugod več raznih prireditev, zato so šli obiskovalci na vse strani in se je poznalo na našem bazarju, da ni bilo drenja. Vseeno smo dosegle lep uspeh. K temu so pripomogle naše pridne članice, za kar jim velja priznanje.
Ta večer je bila tudi glavna seja in volitve odbora. Bila je trda spraviti skupaj odbor za prihodnje leto. Mrs. Mary Okicki se je odpovedala, ker je bolj slabega zdravja. Nominacija je bila odprta za druga imenovanja. Vse so samo odkimavale in po dolgem čakanju in prošnjami smo komaj dobile našo Tili Špehar, ki se je predlanskim odpovedala, ko je bila za predsednico. Smo mislile, da bodo vse ostale odbornice ostale, pa se oglasi še tajnica, da ne more več prevzeti. Po velikem trudu smo jo pregovorile in obljubile, da ji bomo pomagale. Tako se nam je seja zavlekla pozno v noč, zato nismo imele časa, da bi podale obračun kaj smo naredile na bazarju. Tako upam, da bo odbor še enkrat zadovoljen, če se bo zopet udeležilo toliko članic, ki bodo morale priti, da bodo slišale kaj nam je prinesel bazar. Ostale odbornice so ostale iste, samo zastopnice društva so novoizvoljene:	Mrs.
Okicki in Mrs. Pinculič. Po volitvah smo obhajale Miklavža z izmenjavo daril, božičnico in godovanji.
Naslednje sestre so darovale za bazar v denarju in blagu: ses. Globokar, Cercek, Iskra, Drnovski, Krnel, Mary Stražišar (Kewanee) Čebulj, Stana Grilj, Kern, Krnel (tudi v denariju). In vse te so tudi delale tisti dan in Preje ko so pekle potice, štrudeljne in krofe: A. Sustar, Čebulj, Sodja, Pinculič, Cesar, Špehar, Okicki, Azano-vich, Vicic in na dan bazarja so delale v dvorani: ses. Troha, Azanic, Vicic, Magajna, Špehar, Sustar in hčerka Mici, Čebulj, Stražišar, (Kewanee), Smrdel, Okicki, Sodja, Cesar, 1'urk, Vidovič, Globokar, Krzen, Kog, Medved, Perko. Vsem skupaj se odbor najlepše zahvaljuje in vas prosi še za naprej za tako lepo sodelovanje.
Predno končam, naj še dodam, da me je tajnica poklicala, da lepo prosi, •la naj članice čimprej pošljejo članarino, da bo poravnano vse do konca tega meseca, ker ona ne more hoditi po hišah kolektati. Nima takega časa. Rekla je, da je prav iz tega razloga hotela pustiti tajništvo, ker •ii s tem delate prevelike težave. Rekla je, da bi ostala še nadaje, če bo-ste upoštevale ta njen poziv. Št. 15, Cleveland-Newburgh, Ohio. —
Mesec november je vesel za duše v vicah, ker je toliko molitev in sv. maš za njihov pokoj. Toda nas in celi svet je pretresla novica o nasilni smrti našega dobrega predsednika Johna P. Kennedyja. Iskreno sožalje ženi, otroliom in sorodnikom. Njemu pa nebeški raj.
Umrl je Anton Blatnik, soprog članice in ustanoviteljice podružnice št. 15. Frances Blatnik. Njej in družini izrekamo iskreno sožalje. Pokojnemu pa naj sveti večna luč.
Vabim vse članice na sejo dne S. januarja 1964, da boste slišale celoletni račun preteklega leta. Umeščen bo odbor za leto 19G4 in izvedele kaj je bilo sklenjeno na letni seji. Na seji bomo razmotrivale tudi glede konvencije, ki se bo vršila v maju v Chicagu. Vse prisrčno vabljene.
Vsem bolnim članicam želim, da jim ljubi Bog čimprej podeli ljubo zdravje. Prav prisrčno pozdravljam duhovnega vodjo ter glavni odbor in vse članice SŽZ, posebno pri naši podružnici ter upam, da se vidimo zdrave na seji. Frances Lindich, poročevalka
Št. 20, Joliet, III. — Naše čestitke Mr. in Mrs. Anton Jeriha, 704 Hickory St. ob praznovanju zlato-poročnega jubileja. Ses. Jeriha je naša dolgoletna članica. Enako čestitke Mr. in Mrs. Arthur Kraus k srebrni poroki. Slavljenec je poznan med nami še posebno, ker prodaja T. V. in druge e-lektrične predmete. — Mr. in Mrs. Jakob Mihelič sta obhajala biserno poroko v cerkvi Sv. Janeza na N. Hickory St. Vsem slavljencem kličemo še na mnoga leta v zdravju in sreči sredi njihovih družin in prijateljev. V družini Olge in Edward An-cel, so dobili sina, ki bo delal družbo štirim sestricam in še enemu bratcu. Iskrene čestitke. S tem je vaša poročevalka postala že dvanajstič stara mama. Enako je zopet postala stara mama tudi naša članica Mrs. Barbara Ancel.
Izgubile smo dve članice. Dne 1. nov. je umrla ses. Mayme Kochevar iz Raynor Ave. Za njo žaluje soprog Joseph, hčerka in dva sinova, kakor tudi mati Mrs. Mary Jerman. (Dila je edinka v družini Jerman, kateri oče je umrl pred več leti.) K večnemu počitku je bila položena na slov. pokopališču sv. Jožefa. Sv. maša za-dušnica je bila brana v cerkvi St. Raymond. V Zvezo je pristopila 17. maja, priporočena po pole. Clara Dlaess. Dne 20. nov. pa je umrla Magdalena Kucinic, rojena na Hrvat-skem. Za društvo je bila priporočena lio Mrs. Mary C. Terlep. Zapušča več sinov in hčera. Pokopana je bila iz hrvatske cerkve Matere Božje na njihovo pokopališče. Dalje sožalje članici Antonia Madronič ob izgubi očeta. Vsem žalujočim ostalini naše iskreno sožalje. Pokojnim pa večni mir.
Tajnica je poslala voščilno kartico za hitro ozdravljenje ses. Jennie Gerskivich, kakor tudi vaši poročevalki, ko sem se nahajala v bolnišnici. Zahvalujem se vsem za kartice, za osebne obiske in za poslane cvetlice.
Pristopile so štiri nove članice: Marylin Nemanich, Margaret Gaspe-rich, Elizabeth Mihelič in Jean Marie Yuvan. Vsem kličemo “Dobrodošle”, da bi redno prihajale na seje.
Želim vsem članicam srečno in zdravo Novo leto. Vse lepo pozdravlja.

Št. 21, Cleveland, Ohio. — Sporočam, da smo na decemberski seji ponovno izvolile vse uradnice še za naprej. Prav je tako, saj so vse tako pridne in varčne, da smo na nje ponosne, ker znajo tako dobro gospodariti.
Žalostna usoda se je primerila, ko je hudobna roka umorila našega predsednika Johna Kennedy-ja. Molimo za njega, Bog mu daj večni mir.
Moram tudi sporočiti, da je umrla ses. Mary Sterzisar, ki zapušča moža in dve hčeri. Naj v miru počiva. Lepo se zahvalim vsem, ki so se udeležile molitve rožnega venca in pogreba.

Za častno mater naše podružnice je bila izvoljena Frances Perusek. Čestitke. Poročila se je hčerka ses. Rosi Kožuh. Bilo srečno.

Galic, 8. dec., Mary Hočevar, 10. dec., in Helen Less 7. jan. Vsem želim ljubega zdravja. Boleha še soprog ses. Kožuh. Rojstni dan je imela tudi Frances Blatnik.
Želim vsem skupaj srečno in zdravo Novo leto ter želim, da bi imele mnogo uspehov za dobrobit Slovenske Ženske Zveze.

Št. 23, Ely, Minn. — Čas hitro beži. Naša decemberska seja je že za nami, ker se naše seje vršijo vsako prvo nedeljo v mesecu. Udeležba bi lahko bila večja, vsaka pravi, saj lahko opravite brez mene; toda ni tako, večje število nas je skupaj, več koristnega se lahko ukrene. Volitve niso bile pomembne, ker je večinoma ostalo vse pri starem z izjemo podpredsednice in ene nadzornice, ki niso bile navzoče. Nova podpreds. je Theresa Koščak in nadzornica Mary Zgonc.
Sklenile smo, da v februarju, pred postom priredimo card party, da podpremo našo blagajno. Po seji pa smo se lepo pozabavale pri okusnem prigrizku in kavi, kar so darovale odbornice, pripravile pa so dekleta Dawn kluba, katere so vedno pri rokah, kadar je treba kaj delati. Hvala lepa vsem.
V	novembru je naša podr. obhajala 35-letnico ustanovitve. Te proslave se je udeležilo veliko število članic. Najprej je bila kratka seja, potem smo posedle pri okrašenih mizah. Naš du-
hovni vodja, Rev. Father Mihelčič so molili blagoslov. Navzoče je pozdravila predsednica in podala kratko zgodovino podružnice. Predstavila je navzoče charter members (ustanovne članice): Frances Tomsic, Katherine Kapsch, Mary Gornik in Katherine Slogar. Naslednje ustanovne članice pa so že pokojne: Mary Jerich, Katherine Peshel, Margaret Agnich, Mary Slobodnik in Mary Agnich.
Naj še omenim, da je naša najstarejša članica Frances Tomsic, mlada 93 let, tudi bila navzoča in se krepko razgovarjala z nami. Želimo ji, da bi pri dobrem zdravju dočakala 100 let. — Predsednica je tudi prebrala čestitke od ustanoviteljice Zveze, Marie Prisland ter pismo pridne delavke SŽZ, Mrs. Mary Lenich, v katerem obžaluje, da se našemu povabilu ni mogla odzvati vsled pozne ure in rahlega moževega zdravja. Zatem so imeli kratek govor Father Mihelčič, v katerem so se pohvalno izrazili o naši podružnici in nam želeli še za naprej uspehov. Mladi Johny Pucel pa nam je zaigral na svojo harmoniko par veselih slovenskih in naša Mary Hutar je sedla za klavir in pod njenim vodstvom smo vse zapele nekaj pesmi. Končno pa smo gledali slike (slides), katere je naša Ann Camish zadnje poletje posnela v stari domovini. Slike so bile zelo lepe, res Slovenija je krasna. Lepa hvala Ann. — Tako smo zaključili lep večer in se razšle v zadovoljstvu.
Tudi žalost nas obišče. Naša članica Louise Tisovic je izgubila moža, ki zapušča 3 male otroke. Umrl je tudi Fred Skube, ki zapušča ženo Helen in več odraslih in oženjenih o-trok. Tudi Helen je naša članica. Iskreno sožalje.
V	bolnišnici pa se nahajajo sestre: Ana Grahek, Albert Russ, Mary Te-kavec in Barbara Chrep. Njim in vsem, ki se zdravijo doma, želimo ljubega zdravja.
Ker so prazniki že za nami, pa voščim vsem glavnim odbornicam in celotnemu članstvu, zdravo in srečno to leto in vsa leta naprej.

Št. 24, La Salle, III. — Deceniberska seja je za nami. Na tej seji je bil izvoljen ves stari odbor, ker nobena druga ni hotela prevzeti mesta. Za častno mater je bila izvoljena naša nadzornica Anna Jakše. Po seji smo imele izmenjavo daril in Kristina Dernac nas je pogostila z dobrimi keksi, za kar ji velja lepa hvala.
Vse lepo vabim na sejo v novem letu in želim, da bi se vboljšem številu udeleževale, predvsem tudi vse tiste, ki ste zaostale z asesmentom, da bi čimprej poravnale, ker knjige morajo biti v pravem redu. Mnogo skrbi bi prihranile tajnici, če bi plačevale asesment za naprej, ker potem ne bi bilo potrebno vedno opominjati, kajti denar moram poslati na urad vsaki mesec. Članice so sklenile, da bodo v novem letu priredile card party, toda točen datum še ni
bil določen. Objavljeno bo v lokalnem časopisu. Saj nismo imele nobene prireditve zadnja tri leta, zato se je blagajna izčrpala in je potrebno, da vse sodelujemo. Pridite na sejo v januarju.
Iskreno sožalje izrekamo ses. Mary Spelic ob izgubi sina Antona, ki je preminul v najlepši moški dobi 42 let. Sožalje tudi njegovi sestri Theresi Knafelc, ter bratom. Enako sožalje Thresa Strukel ob izgubi sestre Mary Zaversnik iz Jolieta, ki je umrla v visoki starosti 75 let. Žalujočim hčerkam, sinovom, sestram in bratom, naše sožalje. Pokojnim naj bo Bog dober sodnik.
Več naših članic je bilo v bolnišnici: Anna Ravnikar, Josephine Mihalek, Mary Uranič, Ana Kepic, Vanida Hel-mar. Vsem želimo ljubega zdravja, kakor tudi tistim, ki se zdravijo na domu.

Št. 25, Cleveland, O. Zopet smo prekoračile prag novega leta. Zato je na mestu, da vas vse skupaj lepo pozdravimo in vam voščimo zdravo in srečepolno leto 19G4! Upamo, da vas je Miklavž dobro obdaril za božične praznike in da ste se skupno s svojimi družinami prijetno veselili minulih praznikov. Ko boste čitale to poročilo, bo za nami tudi naša božičnica podružnice št. 25. (Ob tem pisanju upamo, da nam bo vreme naklonjeno in bomo privabile obilo članic.) Na naši novemberski seji smo bile članice prijetno iznenadene, ko so se nekatere priglasile z darili kot nagrade pri izbrani kartni zabavi in za druge prilike. Lepa hvala sledečim dobrodušnim članicam: Ernestine Perše, Antonia Mihevc, Angela Virant, Helen Poklicki, Mary Kolegar in Mary Naglič. Tudi Jennie Femec je vedno pripravljena pomagati kjerkoli potrebujemo njeno pomoč, za kar smo ji hvaležne.
Prihodnji mesec bo več naših članic slavilo svoje rojstne dne. Naj-prvo naj omenim Julijo Bokar, ki bo imela osem križev (80 let jih bo imela, pa je še tako korajžna!) Sestra Dorothy Strniša bo zaznamovala 75 let, a še prav dobro vodi naše zapisnike, sestra Mary Otoničar (teta, kakor jo jaz najraje zovem) jih ima 74 let, pa menda še nima ji para pri pripravljanju finega kosila in drugih dobrot za ohcete, veselice in druge priredbe, in tudi pri podružnici je nam vsem kot bivša dolgoletna tajnica, naša desna roka. Med mlajšimi, ki bodo imele svoje “birthdays” pa ste Vicki Faletič, glavna nadzornica in naša poročevalka v angleščini. ter Molly Deželan, naša vratarica, katero pa bolezen tare že nekaj mesecev, upamo, da so se za praznike popolnoma pozdravile. Koliko let i-mate, ne vem natančno, povedano je le bilo, da ste jih zopet “16". Prošli mesec pa je obhajala tudi naša podpredsednica Stella Koporc. Bog vas
živi vse skupaj še na mnoga leta!
Predno zaključim, želim opomniti vse članice podružnice št. 25, da če ste zaostale s svojim asesmentom, da ga prav gotovo takoj poravnate. S tem prihranite odboru veliko dela in tudi važno je, da lahko zaključimo račune za leto 19G4! Še nekaj! Dobro je od časa do časa pregledati vaše certifikate, če imate označene dediče po vaši volji. Ako želite napraviti spremembo, sporočite in vam bom ra-devolje preskrbela potrebne listine. Vedite, da smo uradnice vedno pripravljene vam pomagati v vsakem o-ziru, če je le mogoče.
V	novem letu smo — spomnino se naših bolnih in nesrečnih, molimo zanje in obiščemo jih ter tolažimo, da jim lajšamo bol v njih težki nesreči. Vaša dobra dela napram sočloveku vam bo Bog povrnil stotero. Pozdravljene — in na svidenje na naši prihodnji seji v pondeljek, 13. januarja 19G4!

P. S. Pravkar sem slišala mojega brata na slovenski radijski oddaji o-glasitl čestitke k 90 letnici rojstva, naši članici Mrs. Johanna Yakomin, 1221 E. GO St., Cleveland. Vse članice podr. smo ponosne na našo sestro ter ji želimo zdravja in sreče, da bi dosegla še 100 letnico rojstva. Bog jo živi!
Št. 30, Aurora, III. Samo par vrstic za danes, toliko da vam vsem voščim vesele praznike, čeprav bodo že minili ko pridejo te vrstice k vam.
Obenem želim sporočiti, da letos ne morem pošiljati kartic, ker sem pred enim tednom prišla iz bolnice, kjer sem bila 24 dni zaradi srčnega napada. Toliko sem boljši, da sem doma, toda prišla je mrzla zima, kar tudi ni dobro za bolnike, ko so dolgi dnevi brez sonca.

Izgubile smo dobre članice, katere zelo pogrešamo. Prva je bila ses. Lavrich, ki je bolehala dolgo časa in 20. jan. podlegla smrti. Druga je bila Barbara Stark, ki se je tudi morala ukloniti volji Stvarnika. Preminula je v aprilu. Dalje je bila Louise Stornik, ki jp v 1'ebr. odšla po zasluženo plačilo k Bogu. Četrta Jo-

Leto dni je že minilo, al’ zdi se kot bi bilo včeraj, ko si za vedno zatisnil svoje blage oči. Zelo si pogrešan! Tvoji žalujoči: žena Anna in družina.

hana Sebalj je umrla v mesecu septembru in 24. nov. je preminula Mary Knaus. Tudi njena smrt nas je vse iznenadila. Napravila se je, da gre v cerkev, toda smrt jo je prehitela. Naše iskreno sožalje družinam pokojnih.
Enako bridke izgubo smo občutile, katere smo izgubile soproge in očeta. Mary Pernat je izgubila moža, ki je celih osem let ležal bolan in Mary mu je požrtvovalno stregla do konca. Umrl je 8. jan. Druga žrtev sem bila jaz, ko sem izgubila dobrega soproga. Naš Frank je umrl 11. jan. Zelo ga pogrešamo. Soproga je izgubila tudi Mary Balantich, ki je tudi dolgo bolehal in voljno prenašal vse do zadnjega. Bil je dober soprog in oče. Mary Žurga je izgubila dobrega soproga in očeta družine, ki mu je zvesto stregla do zadnjega. Mary Dresek je spremila soproga in očeta k zadnjemu počitku. Vsem pokojnim bodi Bog milostljiv in naj jim bo lahka ameriška zemlja. To so same žalostne novice, vse gre proti koncu, tako tudi naše življenje.
Sklepi letne seje in društvena pravila so ponovno potrdila našo navado, da v slučaju bolezni članice in je v bolnišnici 7 dni, ji damo $2, ali ases. Ce umrje ji damo venec, za sv. mašo, molimo večer pred pogrebom ter se udeležimo pogreba. Če umrje član njene družine, gremo tudi moliti in s tem izkažemo zadnjo čast pokojnemu v tolažbo družini. Dalje je bilo sklenjeno, da bomo imele naklado 50c, ker imamo toliko bolnih in umrlih. Samo do sedaj smo izdale za cvetlice in maše $01.90, potem so pa še drugi stroški, zato moramo vse enako prispevati, ker imamo tudi enake pravice. Nadalje za list Zarja ste prošene, da priložite še 25c.
kastne matere nismo izvolile, bomo Pa imele kakšno južino za vse članice, pa bo odgovarjalo v ta namen.
Odbor je bil izvoljen po starem, iz-vzemši podpredsednica bo vršila tudi delo zapisnikarice. Tajnica bo obenem tudi blagajničarka. Seje ostanejo tako kakor doslej. Tajnica bo pobirala asesment 25 tega vsaki mesec v N. D. (obrnite na st. 16)

Št. 41, Cleveland, Ohio. — Ko je v petek 2*2. nov. udarila v javnost vest, da je ustreljen predsednik Združenih držav, John F. Kennedy, je bilo skoraj neverjetno, zdelo se je, da je vse utihnilo. Slava velikemu možu, ki je dal življenje v službi domovine!
Na dan letne seje, nam vreme ni bilo naklonjeno, tako da tudi udeležba ni bila kot smo pričakovali. Nadzornicam je bila izvoljena zmožna sestra Ann Videnšek na mesto ses. Rose Strumble, ki se zadnje čase ne počuti dobro. Prisrčne čestitke ses. Videnšek, ses. Strumble pa iskrena hvala za složno sodelovanje. Želimo, da se ji bo zdravje dobro okrepilo in da se bo še nadalje zanimala za napredek podružnice. Druge uradnice smo pa še kar iste ostale.
Naša častna mati leta 1962 Ann Videnšek, je darovala pet dolarjev v blagajno, enako vsoto je darovala tudi naša dolgoletna članica ses. Mary Germ, ki v tem mesecu obhaja svoj 81 rojstni dan. Vse najboljše ses. Germ, želimo vam še mnogo srečnih in zdravih let. V blagajno so tudi darovale ses. Rose Strumble, Ančka Rebolj, Anastazija Husta, Gertie Koshel in podpisana. V korist blagajne je darovala ses. Jennie Cekada krasne prevleke blazin, srečna za nje je bila Ančka Rebolj. Ses. predsednica Mary Debevec je tudi darovala lepe prevleke za vhodno darilo (door prize), srečna zanje je bila podpisana. Vsaki posebej in vsem skupaj prisrčna hvala.
Zelo resno sta se pri padcu poškodovale ses. Sophie Simčič in ses. Louise Pakiž, prva je padla z lestvice, drugi pa je spodrsnilo na mokrih tleh v kleti. Obema prav iskreno želimo popolnega okrevanja.
Novembra sta obhajala zlato poroko kar dva para, katerih zlate neveste sta obe naši dolgoletni članici, to sta Mr. in Mrs. John Rogell in Mr. in Mrs. John Rožance. Ses. Rogell je bila zelo aktivna pri ustanovitvi naše podružnice in večletna odbornica, predzadnje leto pa predsednica podr. 41. Ses. Rožance je bila tudi v odboru pred več leti. Obema paroma iskreno čestitamo in jim želimo še mnogo zdravih in veselih let.
Vsem, katere ste prinesle toliko dobrot, kapljic in čaja za božičnico po seji, prav lepa hvala.
Želim vam vsem veselo in zdravo leto 19G4. Pridite vse na prihodnjo sejo. Sesterski pozdrav!

Št. 55, Girard, Ohio. -- Na naši seji je bila zelo lepa udeležba. Hvala članicam in upam, da bo tako tudi naprej. Miss Beatrice Brayer odpre sejo z molitvijo. Ses. Barbara Umek, podpreds. čita domača pravila, ker je zapisnikarica ses. Thr. Severinski zaradi bolezni odsotna. Spremenile smo par točk domačih društvenih pravil. Pri volitvah so bile izvoljene naslednje odbornice: Barbara Umek, preds., Matilda Cigolle, podpreds. in zapis., Mary Mehalco, taj. in blag., Ann Robsel in Josephine Kren, nadzornice, Mary Mehalco angleška in Ann Robsel, slovenska poročevalka.
Na bolniški listi sta ses. Theresa Severinski in ses. Angela Bernard. Obe sta se nahajale v St. Elizabeth Hospital. Kartice so bile poslane vsem bolnim članicam. V novembru sta se nahajale v North Side Hospital ses. Josephine Pavlinič in ses. Johanna Leskovec. Ali Bog ju je poklical k sebi. Izrekamo globoko sožalje ses. Ann Racic in družini ob izgubi njene drage mamice Josephine Pavlinič. Sožalje ses. Johanna Acri ob izgubi njeno mamice Johanne Leskovec. Bog jima dal mirem počitek.
Po seji smo igrale priljubljene igre. Naslednje so bile deležne nagrad: Frances Serca in Matilda Cigolle. O-kusni cake in kavo sta nam servirale Mary Turk in Fiances Serca.
Ker bo Novoletni dan že za nami, ko boste čitale te vrstice, vam vsem članicam in gl. odbornicam želim zdravja in sreče ter veliko božjega blagoslova skozi vse leto. Amelia Robsel.
Št. 64, Kansas City, Kansas. — Pri
naši podružnici je vse nekam žalostno postalo. Dosti članic, ki so se zanimale za Zvezo so odšle pred nami v večnost, druge smo tudi vsaki dan starejše in nekatere bolehne, tako da ni več tistega zanimanja kot je bilo.
Dne 23. nov. je mirno v Gospodu zaspala v lepi starosti 78 let Mrs. Agnes Palchar. Bolehala je eno leto. Zapušča dve hčeri in devet sinov, dve sestri, 41 vnukov ter 18 pravnukov. Njeno krsto so nosili sinovi. Pokopana je bila prav isti dan kot naš mladi predsednik John F. Kennedy, ki je moral končati svoje mlado življenje na tako tragični način. Naj obema sveti večna luč. Družinam naše islcreno sožalje. Sinaha pok. Palchar je naša članica.

Št. 88, Johnstown, Pa. — Drage sestre: leto je šlo v zaton, zato bi prosila, da tiste, ki dolgujete asesment, poravnate čimprej, da bodo knjige v redu. Naša predsednica Mary Kuzma se je nahajala v bolnišnici, sedaj je že doma in se ji zdravje počasi vrača.
V	bolnišnici se je nahajala tudi Ivana Klinar in Mary Martinčič. Vsem članicam želim ljubega zdravja.

Št. 100, Fontana, Calif. — Dovolite, da se zopet oglasim v naši priljubljeni Zarji. Najprej hočem poročati, da so se tudi naše članice v velikem številu udeležile koncerta Slovenskega okteta, ko je bil tukaj dne 3. nov. Velika dvorana, ki ima nad tisoč sedežev je bila polna in vsi smo bili prevzeti od njihovega krasnega petja. Nato so imeli večerjo v SNPJ domu, kjer so zopet zapeli, med drugim tisto: Kje je moj mili dom, kjer so me zibali mamica moja ... Bil je res lepi dan v Fontani.
Danes čitam lepi opis potovanja v domovini izpod peresa sestre Marie Prisland v koloni Oh, ta svet. Zelo lepo piše o Sloveniji, ki je najlepši kraj na svetu. Tako se je tudi izrazila meni neka tujka, katero sem 1. 1942 srečala v Washingtonu, D. C. v muzeju Daughters of Revolution.
Bila je nečakinja lastnika Pillsbury Flour Mill iz Minneapolis, Minn. Vesela je bila ko sem ji povedala, da sem iz Chisholm, Minn, in da sem rodom iz Slovenije. Povedala mi je, da je bila 1. 1924 na obisku na Bledu in Ljubljani in da je Bled najlepši kraj na svetu. Kar lepo mi je bilo pri srcu, ko drugi narodi tako cenijo našo lepo Slovenijo.
Naša članica in poročevalka, Edith Drawenelc, še vedno boleha. Želim ji liiterega okrevanja. Tudi moje srce še ni zdravo, čeprav se boljše počutim, da grem na seje.
Sinoči se je vršila letna seja podr. v dvorani KSKJ. Dosti članic je bilo navzočih in imele smo pot luck super in za mladino je prišel Miklvaž in obdaril otroke. Vesele smo bile, ko je prišla po dolgi in mučni bolezni zopet med nas članica Edith Drawenek. Po večerji se je vršila volitev odbora za leto 1964. Izvoljene so bile naslednje: Preds. Jenni Kuri-licli, podpreds. Mary Vidigar, taj. in blag. Dorothy Petrlch, zapisnikarica, Edith Drawenek, slovenska poročevalka Frances Lultanich, in angleška poročevalka Frances Kurilich. Sargent at arms Anna Petrich in nadzornice: Mary Evanich in Christine Filips. Bolniške obiskovalke: Rose Ustar in Paula Vidergar.
Naše seje se bodo vršile vsaki prvi četrtek v mesecu ob 7 uri zvečer.
Naj tukaj tudi poročam, da naše mesto Fontana lepo raste. Zadnji teden je bilo poročano, da je mesto izdalo gradbena dovoljenja za 3 mi-jione dolarjev. To je lepa vsota za naše mesLo, ki ima 42 tisoč prebivalcev. Slovenci imamo dve dvorani in vedno dosti zabave za nas starejše ljudi.
Želim vsem članicam najboljšega zdravja v letu 1964. Lep pozdrav vsem, posebno pa urednici, ki tako lepo urejuje našo Zarjo.
