9 Bilten Slovenske vojske WITH A NEW VISION Branimir Furlan The Slovenian Armed Forces have gone through very dynamic times during the last eighteen years. Today they are very close to a modern professional military organi- zation, comparable to and interoperable with other armed forces within the alliance. The military expertise, supported by domestic and foreign military educational insti- tutions, has developed in parallel with successful professionalization, modernization and transformation processes. The Slovenian Armed Forces Bulletin is, besides the results achieved by the Doctrine, Development, Education and Training Command units, one of the direct indicators of the development of military expertise. In the past year the Bulletin has made considerable progress in terms of quality and has, thanks to the previous Editorial Board, qualified into the third quality category according to standards made by Ljubljana and Maribor universities. The new Editorial Board intends to continue the work of their predecessors and further improve the quality of the Bulletin; therefore, it has developed a new vision and strategy. Some will find them ambitious; however, we see them as a tool to support the development of military intellect. Our vision is to raise the quality level of the Bulletin and achieve greater recognisability of articles in order to turn the Bulletin into a scientific publication which could make even greater contribution to the development of military science in the Republic of Slovenia. Our intent is supported also by members of the Editorial Council which includes Slovenian and foreign experts in the military and security area, and previous chiefs of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces. The strategy for the implementation of the vision includes the encouragement of Slovenian and foreign authors who can, through their knowledge and experience, contribute to the development of knowledge and the exchange of best practices in the security and military area, the pursuit of quality and the increase in the number of articles in order to gradually create conditions for the transfer into a higher category, increase the recognisability of the Bulletin and enhance the cooperation 10 Bilten Slovenske vojske 11 Bilten Slovenske vojske and exchange of articles with various foreign institutions. The qualifi- cation of the publication into a higher category implies also a change of the name which will reflect a modern publication in the area of national security. We believe that the forthcoming 20th anniversary of defence forces of the independent Slovenian state will represent one of the reasons to confirm knowledge and ability of individuals and organizations and express critical scientific or expert opinions on the development and future of the Slovenian Armed Forces, as well as on current defence and security issues at home and abroad. May we become comparable to armed forces with longer tradition also in the area of military intellect! Branimir Furlan
