358 UDK 37:1Erazem Rotterdamski 1.01 Izvirni znanstveni članek Prejeto: 17. 7. 2017 Matej Prevc* Erazem Rotterdamski in humanistična vzgoja otrok Erasmus of Rotterdam and the humanist education of children Izvleček Prispevek predstavlja glavne izobraževal- ne nazore evropskih humanistov, ki so se v zgodnjem 16. stoletju zbirali okrog Erazma Rotterdamskega. Ta se je kot eden najvidnej- ših intelektualcev svojega časa veliko ukvarjal tako s pedagoško teorijo kot s samim poučeva- njem, v njegovem opusu pa imajo pomembno vlogo tudi spisi s tematiko vzgoje in izobra- ževanja. V enem izmed njih, ki nosi naslov De pueris statim ac liberaliter instituendis, Erazem v obliki urejene retorične razprave z raznolikimi in dodelanimi argumenti razkriva svoje poglede in stališča o vzgoji in izobraže- vanju otrok. Najobširnejše argumentacije je deležno njegovo prepričanje, da je treba pri- četi s skrbnim izobraževanjem že v zgodnjem otroštvu, prepričljivo pa razpravlja tudi o po- membnosti in o lastnostih dobrega učitelja, o škodljivosti telesnih kazni ter o pomembnosti izobrazbe kot temelja za kreposten značaj in srečno življenje. As one of the most prominent intellectuals of his time, Erasmus was closely involved in both pedagogical the- ory and teaching, while essays on upbringing and education also have an important place in his work. In one of these, entitled De pu- eris statim ac liberaliter instituendis, taking the form of an ordered theoretical treatise involving varied and considered arguments, Erasmus reveals his belief that it is necessary to begin a thorough education in early child- hood, while also discussing convincingly the importance of and characteristics of a good teacher, the harmful nature of physical pun- ishment and the importance of education as the foundation of a virtuous character and a happy life.
