Keywords: Neowuia Li & Murányi, 2017 nom. n., Neowuia qinlinga (Li & Murányi, 2015) comb. n., Heterodontus (Wuia) Fowler, 1934, Chondrichthyes Two years ago, we described the remarkable Perlodinae genus Wuia Li & Murányi, 2015 on the basis of its type and single species, W. qinlinga Li & Murányi, 2015 collected in the Qinling Mountains, Shaanxi Province of China. Recently, we noticed that the generic name was preoccupied by Heterodontus (Wuia) Fowler, 1933, a junior synonym of the genus Heterodontus Blainville, 1816, the bullhead sharks. Heterodontus (Wuia) was erected for a single species, Centracion zebra Gray, 1831, and dedicated to Prof. Hsien-Wen Wu, an ichthyologist at the University of Amoy (Xiamen University). In revisionary works on the Heterodontidae, the subgenus was first ignored (Smith 1942) then synonymized with Heterodontus (Taylor 1972), however, future analyses may result in revalidation of the genus (Compagno 2001). Regardless if the subgenus is valid or not, it is an available genus group name and the Perlodinae Wuia must be recognized as a junior homonym according to Article 53.2 of the Code (ICZN 1999). Herein we propose the new name Neowuia to replace our preoccupied Wuia.
