Slovenski klub Adelaide Predsednikovo poročilo
Spoštovani člani,
Pred vami je zimski izvod klubskih novic, zadnji pred letnim sestankom, ki bo 11. avgusta.
Ob tej priliki bi se rad ponovno zahvalil članom odbora, kuharcam, Sergiu Lachi in vsem ostalim, kateri so na kakrsenkoli način pomagali v klubu ter članom in prijateljem, ki so redno obiskovali naš dom.
12. maja smo v klubu praznovali materinski dan. V čast materam smo pripravili kratek program, v katerem so naši najmlajši, pa tudi starejši recitirali in igrali, pevski zbor pa je zapel nekaj materinskih pesmi. Hvala Vidi Končina, ki je pripravila program.
12. junija smo organizirali izlet na York Penisula. Obilno kosilo nam je pripravil naš rojak, gospodar hotela v Maitlandu gospod Emil Kregar.
V	nedeljo, 23. junija smo se v velikem številu zbrali na praznovanju dneva državnosti Slovenije. Našemu povabilu se je z veseljem odzval tudi pater Janez in gospod Florjan Auser iz Sydneya, ki se je ravno takrat mudil v Adelaidi. Pater Janez se po 33 letih dušnega pastirja v Adelaidi vrača v Slovenijo. Želimo mu dobrega zdravja v pokoju.
V	čast naši domovini, ki si je pred 22. leti priborila neodvisnost smo pripravili kratek program. Hvala Vidi Končina, Jadranu Vatovec in pevcem ter nastopajočim.
Torej, ne pozabite na letni sestanek 11. avgusta.
Kot vam je znano smo v začetku leta članom poslali pisma glede prodaje oziroma bodočnosti kluba. Izid misljenja članov bomo razpravljali na letnem sestanku.
Upam, da se vidimo v čimvecjem številu. Hvala in lep pozdrav,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee members, cooks, Sergiu Lachi and all others who helped in any way. Last but not least thanks to the members and friends who supported us throughout the year.
On Sunday, 12th May we celebrated Mother's Day. In their honour we prepared a short program in which mainly children performed. Thanks to Vida Končina for preparing the program.
On the 12th June we organised a trip to York Peninsula. We stopped in Maitland where we had a delicious lunch prepared for us by our fellow countryman, Mr Emil Kregar who is the owner of the Maitland hotel.
On Sunday, 23th June we celebrated Slovenia National Day. It was nice to see so many people attend. Also present were pater Janez and Mr Florjan Auser from Sydney who represents Slovenians abroad in Australia. Pater Janez is leaving us after 33 years of priesthood. We would like to thank him for serving the Slovenian community and wish him all the best in his retirement.
A big thank you to Vida Končina, who once again prepared the program for this occasion, also to Adrian Vatovec and his choir and all the other performers.
Once again don't forget the general meeting on the 11th August 2013.
On the agenda, the outcome of the members vote regarding the sale of the club will be discussed. You would have received a letter at the beginning of the year outlining this.

Izlet na Yorke Peninsula
V mrzlem in deževnem jutru smo se v sredo, 12. junija pred klubom vkrcali na avtobus in se preko mestnega hrupa peljali na izlet na York Peninsula.
Bili smo v skrbeh, da se morda zaradi dežja ne bomo mogli ustaviti v parku v Port Wakefieldu, kjer bi se okrepčali s toplo kavo, čajem in odličnim pecivom, ki so ga s seboj prinesle naše dobre žene. No, pa Bog je uslišal naši prošnji in tik pred Port Wakefieldom je nehalo deževati. Ustavili smo se v parku ob obali, kjer so nas pričakali domačini - morski galebi in se nam pridružili ob prigrizku. Pihal je hladen veter, zato za nekatere ni bila dovolj samo kava, čaj. Treba se je bilo pogreti z nečem močnejšim.... Za to je poskrbel predsednik kluba.
Po skoraj urnem postanku smo se zopet vkrcali v avtobus in nadaljevali vožnjo. Deževalo ni več. Nasprotno, bilo je lepo, sončno. Pred nami se je odpirala zelena planjava, tu in tam čreda ovac.
Peljali smo se skozi Ardrossan - prijazna in čista obmorska vasica, ki preko leta privablja nešteto turistov.
Na avtobusu smo zvedeli, da je imel naš mladi šofer dan poprej svoj 33. rojstni dan. Zapeli smo mu "Happy Birthday".
Še kakšnih 20 km vožnje in že smo prispeli v Maitland. Pohiteli smo naravnost v hotel kjer nas je po slovensko pozdravil gospodar hotela, rojak Emil Kregar. Pripravili so nam obilen "smorgasboard". Po obilnem obroku smo se malo pokramljali nato pa se vsak po svoje odpravili na sprehod, da se olajša tesnobo v želodcu, nekateri pa so poskusili srečo na "pokies".
Zopet smo se vkrcali v avtobus, se mimogrede ustavili v Kadini, nato pa nadaljevali vožnjo proti domu.
Ko smo se bližali proti Adelaidi, nas je zopet zajel mestni promet, tako smo se le počasi kot polž pomikali proti klubu, zadovoljni in malce utrujeni. Mimogrede smo še zvedeli, da bo naslednji dan tudi Toni Zupančič praznovala svoj rojstni dan, zato smo tudi njej zapeli "Vse najboljše".
Hvaležni smo Slovenskemu klubu, še posebno predsedniku Ivanu Cafuta, da nam je zopet organiziral prijeten izlet. Do naslednjega izleta pa "srečno"!

DRŽAVLJANSTVA
Pozdravljeni,
glede na to, da so se pomembno spremenila merila za ugotavljanje nacionalnega interesa pri sprejemu v državljanstvo iz nacionalnih razlogov po 13. členu Zakona o državljanstvu Republike Slovenije (to je izredna naturalizacija za zamejce ter slovenske izseljence in njihove potomce), vam posredujem naslednjo informacijo, za katero prosim, da jo posredujete vsem zainteresiranim članom:
Glavne spremembe so:
1.	praviloma je naturalizacija mogoča samo še za potomce do 2. Kolena (torej za osebe, katerih največ dedek/babica je bil Slovenec/Slovenka po obeh starših); prej je bilo do 4. kolena
2.	aktivnost v društvu najmanj 5 let in večletna osebna aktivna vez prosilca s Slovenijo; prej je bilo večletno aktivno delovanje v društvu ali (temu primerljivo trajna in tesna) aktivna vez s Slovenijo (brez te 5-letne aktivnosti v društvu lahko državljanstvo dobi le tisti, ki je slovensko državljanstvo že imel, pa mu je iz razumljivega razloga prenehalo)
3.	če je to mogoče, mora prosilec priložiti tudi uradni dokument, v katerem se opredeli kot Slovenec po narodnosti (npr. izpisek iz posebnega volilnega imenika) - to je teoretično mogoče vsaj na Hrvaškem in v Srbiji, opredelitve po narodnosti pa omogočajo tudi uradni rojstni listi v entiteti Republiki srbski v okviru BiH
4.	DKP v postopku podaja priporočilo le še v tistih primerih, ko Urad za to izrecno zaprosi
Nova uredba je pričela veljati 15. dan po objavi, torej 4. aprila 2013. Vloge, ki so bile vložene do vključno 3. aprila 2013, bodo obravnavane še po starih merilih.
Predlagam, da vse potencialne prosilce, ki bi se oglasili pri vas v društvih, sproti seznanjate z določili nove uredbe, saj so takse zelo visoke (354,00 EUR, če je vloga vložena na veleposlaništvu) in bodo tisti, ki ne izpolnjujejo novih pogojev, pa ne bodo dobili korektne informacije pred vložitvijo vloge, kasneje verjetno dvakrat žalostni: zaradi morebitne negativne odločbe in zaradi izgubljenega denarja za takso. Na Uradu se nam torej zdi koristno, da se (poleg veleposlaništev)
tudi vas kot društva vključi v proces seznanjanja morebitnih prosilcev z veljavno zakonodajo.
Točno besedilo novega 3. člena Uredbe vam posredujem v priponki. Da ne bo kakšnih nesporazumov: moj zgornji opis sprememb je poenostavljen, merodajno pa je edino uradno besedilo priloženega novega 3. člena uredbe! (Zato predlagam, da si to sprintate in natančno preberete, če imate kakršnakoli dodatna vprašanja, pa me kontaktirajte.)

New Criteria for Acquisition of Slovenian Citizenship through Extraordinary Naturalization
A new decree on criteria for establishing compliance with national interest requirements for acquiring the Slovenian citizenship in accordance with Article 13 of the Citizenship Act (Extraordinary Naturalization) was adopted. The provision of Article 13 allows for the granting of citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia to persons of Slovenian descent if this is in the interest of the country because of scientific, economic, cultural, national or similar reasons.
The decree limits the applications for citizenship to individuals of Slovenian descent up to the second generation in direct descent. Moreover, the applicant will have to demonstrate a multiannual active connection with the Republic of Slovenia and a minimum of five year activity in Slovenian associations, schools of Slovene language or Slovenian expatriate, emigrant or minority organizations.
The new criteria became effective from April 4, 2013.

Slovenian Australian Katarina Vrisk has made a successful career as a music teacher in Melbourne, Australia. From early childhood music has played a major part in her life with influences from her musician father, and her involvement in the Slovenian community.
Draga Gelt OAM -- interview
Draga Gelt is a remarkable Slovenian Australian. Her involvement and contribution to the Slovenian community spans across teaching, authoring, writing, and drama production.
Draga's inspiration is her love of Slovenian people and culture. She realises the importance of documenting and promoting the achievements of Slovenian Australians, which are substantial.
In the last few years Draga has produced a number of substantial books. Her current project is the Historical Archives of Slovenians in Australia (HASA).
No sooner does Draga complete one project than she is on to the next one ... the ideas flow and her passion propels her forward.
Draga has deservedly received an OAM (Order of Australia Medal) for her services to the Slovenian Australian community,
Over the last 2 to 3 years Katarina decided to undertake a mammoth project by documenting the activities of Slovenian Australian musicians. The passion and long hours Katarina has put into this project culminates with the release of her book and CD titled Anthology of Slovenian Australian Musicians.

Mario Palusa - Musician
Slovenian Mario Palusa was 26 and a half years old when he blew his first note on the trumpet. He was newly arrived in Australia in the mid 1950's and his musical journey had begun. A journey which would see him play music, in various groups, throughout Australia for the next 40 plus years.

Komisije DZ za odnose s Slovenci v zamejstvu in po svetu

Ministrica je Komisijo informirala o nedavnih srečanjih s predstavniki slovenskih skupnosti v zamejstvu. Poudarila je skupne cilje na področju sodelovanja s Slovenci v zamejstvu in po svetu in predstavila nekaj možnosti v smeri krepitve tega sodelovanja.
Predsednik Komisije poslanec D. Krivec je predstavil delo in pristojnosti Komisije in ministrico povabil v Državni zbor na letošnje Vseslovensko srečanje.
Ministrica in člani Komisije so se strinjali, da se bodo po potrebi še srečevali.
New Commission for Slovenians Abroad
In early April 2013, the National Assembly of the Government of Slovenia confirmed the New Commission for Slovenians Abroad as being responsible for monitoring the state of affairs of autonomous Slovenian minorities living in neighboring and other countries.
The mission of the Commission is to inform the National Assembly of general and specific issues encountered by Slovenians living in neighboring and other countries and to promote the elimination of problems encountered by those Slovenians.
The chair of the parliamentary Commission for Slovenians Abroad is Mr. Danijel Krivec (Slovenian Democratic Party), the deputy chair is Ms. Saša Kos (Positive Slovenia).
Other members of the Commission for Slovenians Abroad are the deputies: Jožef Kavtičnik (Positive Slovenia), Peter Oder (Positive Slovenia), Mateja Pučnik (Slovenian Democratic Party), Franc Breznik (Slovenian Democratic Party), Mirko Brulc (Social Democrats), Samo Bevk (Social Democrats), Franc Pukšič (Slovenian People's Party), Ivan Hršak (Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia), Ljudmila Novak (New Slovenia - Christian People's Party), Branko Kurnjek (Civic List) and dr. Laszlo Goncz (representative of the Hungarian national community in Slovenia).

AVSTRALIJA PRIZNALA SLOVENSKA VOZNIŠKA DOVOLJENJA
Spoštovani Slovenci in Slovenke v Avstraliji,
z veseljem vas obveščam, da je Avstralija s 1. majem letos priznala slovenska vozniška dovoljenja. V skladu s predlogom o medsebojnem priznavanju vozniških dovoljenj med Republiko Slovenijo in Avstralijo je Ministrstvo za zunanje zadeve Avstralije (DFAT) obvestilo Veleposlaništvo Republike Slovenije v Canberri, da od navedenega datuma naprej priznava slovenska vozniška dovoljenja za "izkušene voznike", ki so državljani Republike Slovenije in imajo stalno ali začasno prebivališče v Avstraliiji. To pomeni, da lahko vsi vozniki, ki so dopolnili 25 let starosti ali več in imajo veljavno slovensko vozniško dovoljenje (za avto ali motor, se pravi, Class C in Class R) ter ustrezni dokument o istovetnosti s strani države ali teritorija, v kateri prebivajo, zamenjajo svoje slovensko vozniško dovoljenje za avstralsko brez dodatnega opravljanja teoretičnega in praktičnega preizkusa znanja vožnje. Edina država, kjer ta zamenjava trenutno še ni mogoča, je Queensland, ki bo svoje pravne postopke za priznavanje vozniških dovoljenj predvidoma dokončal sredi tega leta. V duhu vzajemnosti bo v kratkem tudi Republika Slovenija primerljivo uredila vse potrebno za to, da bodo lahko tudi državljani Avstralije, ki stalno ali začasno prebivajo v Sloveniji, zamenjali svoja avstralska vozniška dovoljenja za slovenska (v prihodnje tudi za enotno vozniško dovoljenje držav članic Evropske unije). "Izkušeni vozniki", ki iz Slovenijo vstopajo v Avstralijo na podlagi permanentne vize, lahko z obstoječim vozniškim dovoljenjem vozijo največ do treh mesecev po svojem prihodu v Avstralijo, potem pa morajo svoje vozniško dovoljenje zamenjati za avstralskega. Vsi tisti vozniki, ki še niso dopolnili 25 let starosti, bodo morali za pridobitev avstralskega vozniškega dovoljenja še naprej opraviti teoretični in praktični preizkus znanja vožnje. Če bo takšna oseba opravila omenjeni preizkus znanja, bo lahko slovensko vozniško dovoljenje zamenjala za avstralskega. Turisti in drugi gosti, ki bodo iz Slovenije obiskali Avstralijo na podlagi trimesečne turistične vize, bodo lahko v tem času uporabljali svoja slovenska vozniška dovoljenja. Ker običajno slovensko vozniško dovoljenje ni v angleškem jeziku, si mora voznik priskrbeti dodatno slovensko Mednarodno vozniško dovoljenje v angleškem jeziku ali overjen prevod svojega vozniškega dovoljenja. Multicultural SA
I am writing to you to advise you of changes that will better position Multicultural SA to serve multicultural communities across South Australia.
As of 15 May 2013, Multicultural SA will join with the Policy and Community Development Division of the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI), under the leadership of Executive Director Sue Wallace.
This move will align Multicultural SA with the Office for Youth, the Office for Volunteers and the Office for Carers, areas which share a primary focus on community engagement, grant funding and community and sector development. Multicultural SA's Interpreting and Translating Centre will join the Youth Justice, Community Engagement and Organisational Support Division of DCSI, under Executive Director Peter Bull. This will allow the Centre to take advantage of the business and administrative expertise within that Division.
Overall, the changes will mean that Multicultural SA is better positioned to serve multicultural communities in South Australia, through greater access to new resources, knowledge and communities to influence across-government planning, including a greater reach into regional communities.

Uroš Jakša ni tipičen Slovenec. Je svobodomiseln 39-letnik, ki bo 21. julija z ženo in hčerama zapustil Škofjo Loko in začel novo življenje v Avstraliji. Urejanje dokumentov in pridobivanje vizuma je trajalo šest let. »Ničesar ne bom pogrešal. Novo življenje - novo pohištvo, pravim.«
»Poznam štiri družine, ki se bodo v prihodnjih treh mesecih iz Slovenije preselile v Avstralijo,« se Uroš Jakša, po poklicu kuhar, ne čudi pobegom v tujino, ki jih je pospešila gospodarska kriza: »V Avstraliji bom za tisto, kar rad delam, dobil več kot pri nas.«
Ko sta se pred šestimi leti z ženo odločila za selitev na južno poloblo, je slovenskemu gospodarstvu dobro šlo. »Takrat sva razmišljala: Sva mlada, in če nama tujina lahko da še kaj več, dajva, poskusiva. Zdaj pa si rečem, še dobro, da gremo, saj bodo moji otroci v življenju imeli priložnost. Za mlade v Sloveniji namreč ni prihodnosti.«
Dobrodejni vpliv sonca
Z ženo imata rada sproščen življenjski slog. Prav zato jima je avstralski način bivanja blizu: »Avstralci so odprti, sicer pa na celini prebivajo ljudje, ki jih je prineslo z vseh vetrov. Družba je multikulturna, razmišljajo drugače. Sonce in morje pa vplivata na sproščenost,« je razpredal sogovornik. V Sloveniji je zaradi novega izziva pustil redno zaposlitev: »Kot kuhar z iskanjem službe ne bom imel težav. To je poklic, ki se v Avstraliji išče.«
Vlogo za stalni vizum sta z ženo vložila leta 2006, leto pozneje se je postopek uradno začel. »Najprej morajo odobriti tvoj poklic, potem lahko nadaljuješ urejanje vloge. Ena od zahtev so štiri leta delovne dobe v zadnjih štirih letih - v tem času dve leti v tvojem poklicu -, kar preverijo prek Zpiza. Znanje angleščine je treba potrditi s certifikatom. Preden ti odobrijo vizum, te čaka še zdravniški pregled,« je opisal birokratske zahteve, za katere je odštel približno osem tisoč evrov; v znesek so vštete vladne dajatve, aplikacija za vizum, agent, sodno prevajanje in overjanje uradnih papirjev. Najdražje so bile letalske vozovnice, za katere je družina porabila dodatnih 3600 evrov. Z ženo sta pet let garala, da bi privarčevala sredstva, s katerimi bi po najslabšem scenariju lahko živela približno leto dni brez službe.
Prve izkušnje
»Projekt Avstralija« se je časovno zavlekel zaradi gospodarske krize, ki je omejila vstop tujcev v državo. »Znašla sva se v začaranem krogu: čakala sva na vizum in nisva vedela, ali bi doma popravljala hišo, kupila novo pohištvo, avtomobil. Zakaj pa bi, če bomo čez eno leto odšli, sva se ves čas spraševala. Nisem si drznil začenjati novih projektov. Rekla sva si, da počakava še eno leto - če ne bo nič, načrte prekineva in ne misliva več nanje. Pač ne bomo šli,« je bil realen. Težave sta imela tudi z agentom, s katerim sta prekinila sodelovanje in ga nadomestila z agentko, ki je postopek uspešno končala.
Odločitev o selitvi na toplo sta že na začetku pozdravili tudi hčeri (starejša Neža je stara 17 let, mlajša Lea 13). »Za začetek sva se z ženo strinjala, da bom jaz skrbel za dohodek, ona pa jima bo pomagala pri privajanju na novo okolje,« je dejal Jakša. Mrežo poznanstev je vzpostavil ob prvem obisku Avstralije pred tremi leti. Takrat je že pomagal v italijanski restavraciji, ki je postala ena od njegovih zaposlitvenih priložnosti.
Prijatelji, kolegi in znanci so njegovo odločitev o odhodu v Avstralijo večinoma sprejeli negativno: »Sprašujejo me, zakaj grem, in pogosto odmahnejo z roko, češ, kmalu se boš vrnil.« V želji po boljšem življenju jim bo poskušal dokazati nasprotno.

Ljubljana - V Sloveniji je trenutno registriranih skoraj 121 tisoč brezposelnih, prostih delovnih mest pa le slabih 800. V dani situaciji marsikomu ne preostane drugega, kot da se odloči za samostojno pot.
Tako sta se znašla Til Pleterski in Klemen Ptičak, diplomirana ekonomista, ki po končanem študiju nista našla službe in pristala na Zavodu RS za zaposlovanje. Ker sta tudi tam ostala praznih rok, sta se pred pol leta odločila za lastno pot.
Kot so poročali v oddaji Danes na Planet TV, sta kupila
prikolico, jo spremenila v kuhinjo za peko hamburgerjev in rodil se je Hood Burger. Kljub diplomi in posmehu znancev jima to delo ni nič pod častjo in ga rada opravljata. "Dela je vedno dovolj, le videti ga moraš"
Kot pravita, je treba usodo vzeti v svoje roke. "Dela je vedno dovolj, le videti ga moraš. Začela sva se zavedati, da razen naju samih nihče drug ne bo poskrbel za naju," pravi Til Pleterski. Zato ne razumeta mladih, ki se nenehno pritožujejo, da ni zaposlitev.
Ob svojem delu le redko spremljata aktualno politično dogajanje, saj sta prepričana, da je treba delati in iskati pozitivne zglede. V slovenski javnosti pa je po njuno preveč negativizma. Proti dvigu DDV-ja
Ekonomista, ki pečeta hamburgerje, sta z vladno napovedjo o dvigu DDV-ja nezadovoljna. Kot pravita, ne bosta mogla kar takoj dvigniti cen in bosta tako sama na izgubi. Od vlade zato pričakujeta, da se bo čim manj vtikala v delo podjetnikov. Mladi se namreč velikokrat prav zaradi prevelike administracije in nadzora oblasti ne odločijo za samostojno podjetniško pot.
Avstralija znova ponuja »najboljše službe na svetu«

Avstralske oblasti so v prvih dveh urah po objavi razpisa prejele že 8000 prijav.
Canberra - Avstralija je znova zagnala kampanjo, v okviru katere mladim z vsega sveta ponuja »najboljše službe na svetu«, piše Slovenska tiskovna agencija. Med drugim iščejo nekoga, ki bo postal del sydneyske visoke družbe in se bo udeleževal različnih družabnih dogodkov ter degustatorja, ki bo preverjal ponudbo restavracij, vinotek in barov. Skupno je v okviru kampanje na voljo šest delovnih mest. Avstralske oblasti namreč iščejo še nekoga, ki bi preizkušal različne avanture in iskal najboljša doživetja, čuvaja v nacionalnem parku, fotografa življenjskega sloga in skrbnika divjih živali.
Kampanja cilja na mlade, ki avstralskemu turizmu letno zagotovijo skoraj 12,2 milijarde dolarjev prihodkov in ustvarijo skoraj 1,6 milijona oziroma 26 odstotkov vseh mednarodnih turističnih prihodov, piše STA. Da je zanimanje veliko, dokazuje dejstvo, da so oblasti v prvih dveh urah po objavi razpisa prejele že 8000 prijav.
Vsi, ki bi se želeli potegovati za sanjsko službo, imajo sicer čas do 30. aprila, da na posebno spletno stran naložijo 30-sekundni video, v katerem morajo utemeljiti, zakaj bi bili prav oni najboljša izbira.
Prvi del kampanje je bil izveden leta 2009, ko je Britanec Ben Southall zmagal na razpisu in postal skrbnik avstralskega otoka Hamilton na Velikem koralnem grebenu. Southall je svojo izkušnjo po pisanju STA opisal kot nekaj, kar človeku spremeni življenje. »Gre za eno od stvari, pri katerih se moraš enostavno prepustiti in videti, kam te pripelje«" je povedal.

Photojournalist Luka Dakskobler is competing for a six-month job earning $100,000. Dakskobler is a finalist among the 45,000 entries received for the city lifestyle reporter in Melbourne job. If selected, for the magazine Time Out Magazine, Luka will photograph festivals, concerts, sporting events, urban beats, bars, events, and more.
Luka's video entry (see below) was shot 2 days before the closing date and submitted 2 hours before the deadline. He had known about the competition but forgot about it until the last minute.
Luka has won a number of photojournalism awards.

Holdings
The collection consists of Slovenian emigrant monographs and periodicals. resources) and religious printed matter. The collection also keeps some material from the period between 1941 and 1945 (e.g. the works by the members of the Slovenian Home Guards called »domobranci« and works by France Balantič). Some very precious and rare prints from the refugee camps in Austria and Italy (1945-1950) are also a part of this collection. The majority of the material is in the Slovenian language, some publications are in the Serbo-Croatian (e.g. all Milovan Djilas's books, which have been officially prohibited) and some are in other languages.

Tribute Paid to Writer Pahor Before His 100th Birthday

Boris Pahor's moral authority as a living witness to the horrors of 20th century totalitarianisms was highlighted at an all-day event in Ljubljana, which launched the celebration of the 100th birthday of this Trieste-based Slovenian writer.

A series of speakers paid tribute to Pahor at the Cankarjev dom arts centre at a symposium organised by the publishing house Mladinska knjiga as just one in a number of events in the run up to 26 August when Pahor celebrates his centennial.
The publisher will mark the jubilee with the launch of a book entitled "Tako živim" (The Way I Live), which will reminiscence on the events the writer experienced and survived.
Growing up in Trieste, he witnessed the persecution of Slovenians by the Fascists before WWII, was imprisoned by the Nazis during the war and was banned from entering Slovenia by the Communists after publishing an interview in which fellow writer Edvard Kocbek spoke about summary post-war killings.
Despite his hard life, Pahor "has remained as he was, in his own way and on his own path, which is unrepeatable" chairman of Mladinska knjiga Založba Peter Tomšič said, adding that Pahor still had much to tell to contemporary readers and was still surprising them.
Rising from the audience, Pahor said that he was in a way embarrassed witnessing an event dedicated to him and his work. "Such events happen when a writer is gone. Everything is so amiss in my life that this is amiss too," he said.
Chairman of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) Jože Trontelj praised Pahor's courage and his upright and uncompromising stature, which he said contributed to a righteous condemnation of moral delusions of 20th century totalitarianisms.
The words echoing from his works are "I accuse", the stories are a reminder of what happens when ideology merges with the desire for power, the academician said, adding that Pahor's writing was also a solid moral lecture in patriotism to Slovenians inside and outside Slovenia proper.
Editorial director of publisher Bompiani Elisabetta Sgarbi sent in a written contribution themed "Pahor is Trieste", in which she describes how Pahor as a writer and man combines the features of Trieste as a city of diverse souls, experiences and knowledge, but with value added.
"We'd like to hear new words from him to find a meaning in them that would bind together two centuries of European life and so that through his words we discover a further meaning for our chaotic existences," Sgarbi stated.
French literary and film critic Jean-Luc Douin sent a message saying: "Despite doubt, despite faithful memory of the tortured fellow prisoners, despite the momentary conviction that he is no longer capable of being happy, for he stood on the threshold of a crematorium...Pahor still believes that desire and love can bring salvation. And he proves that too."

SLOVENIANS are, proportionally, the most likely nationality to own a home in Victoria, Census data has revealed.
With a local population of about 3,850 who are at least 20-years-old the Slovenians are punching above their weight with 2,271 of their number (59 per cent) owning homes - topping a list of exclusively European ancestries with the highest rates of home owner ship per head of population.
Robert Larocca from the Real Estate Institute of Victoria, who researched the figures, said buying a house helped commit new arrivals from Europe over the last century to a new country.
"It was a way of establishing their foundations in this nation as home ownership being equated with being here for the long term,'' Mr Larocca said.
Frances Urbas-Johnson, President of the Slovenian Association Melbourne, said many in the Slovenian community had fled persecution and arrived in Australia wanting to ensure they provided for their families.
"With Australia having a lot of opportunities they wanted to create some stability for their families... they would buy their first home, they weren't worried about buying toys for their children and going on holiday,'' Ms Urbas-Johnson said.

Slovenian adventurer and environmentalist Matevž Lenarčič has become the first person to fly an ultra-light plane from Europe to America and back over the North Pole.
After two days waiting in France for favourable weather, Lenarčič took off from Saint-Nazaire earlier on Sunday and finally landed in Ljubljana.

"I've had more trouble than I had expected, and that prolonged the expedition but what matters is that me and the plane have arrived safely," the 54-year-old told a crowd of well-wishers after landing in Ljubljana on Sunday.
But his month-long journey was not all plain sailing. The trained biologist had to make an unscheduled stop in Saint-Nazaire, northwestern France, due to weather conditions and an Irish airport did not have the type of fuel required for his aircraft.
But after two days waiting in France for favourable weather, Lenarčič took off from Saint-Nazaire earlier on Sunday and finally landed in Ljubljana from where he departed on April 22. "I've had many unexpected events. That is why this trip has taken 14 days longer than initially planned," Lenarčič said on

Matevž Lenarčič prepares to land having flown over the North Pole in an ultra-light plane equipped to measure air pollution.
The plane was equipped to measure air pollution over the North Pole - a hot-spot for global warming - and Lenarčič said all measurements had gone as planned.
While flying over the Arctic, an important indicator of global weather changes, Lenarčič was surprised to note "temperatures on the actual North Pole were much higher than in surrounding areas".
An accomplished aerial photographer, he took pictures and measured levels of black carbon and light-absorbing particles at a height of 3000-4000 metres, an altitude rarely explored by scientists.
The particles - mostly the product of burning coal and other fossil fuels - absorb light from the sun and thus play a role in the complex equation of global warming.
The 15,600-kilometre flight scheme was initiated last year after Lenarčič succeeded in circling the world in the same aircraft, the Slovenian made Pipistrel Virus SW914, which weighs just 290 kilograms unladen.
The Virus SW plane is 6.5 metres long and has 10.7 wide wings. Empty it weighs 290 kilograms but can develop speed of up to 300 km/h.
Lenarčič was the first person to circle the globe in an ultra-light aircraft without a copilot or additional air support in 2004.
Flying the Pipistrel Sinus 912 UL aircraft, he also set a world speed record in the under 500 kilo category.
During last year's flight, he became the first Slovenian to land on Antarctica and the first Slovenian to make a flyover of Mt Everest.
World's Oldest Wheel Home after Decade under Restoration
A decade after being discovered in Ljubljana's marshes, what is thought to be the world's oldest found wooden wheel will be displayed at the Ljubljana City Museum along with the appertaining axle.
The wheel, dated 3,200 BC, was found in 2002 at an archaeological site some 20 kilometres south-west of Ljubljana.
It then took over ten years of painstaking work by experts at the laboratory of the Roman-Germanic Museum in Mainz for the exceptional find to be restored.
Having a radius of 70 centimetres, the wheel is made of ash and oak. The aperture for the 120 cm long axle is square, which means that the wheel and the axis rotated together.
Put on show for a day in 2003, the wheel attracted 3,000 visitors, which is why the museum hopes the present display will be well attended.
The concept of the exhibition is unique in that it links prehistoric heritage and technological and scientific development with culture, art and even space.
The wheel is the focus of a broader story about the prehistoric pile-dwelling culture living in the area, Culture Ministry heritage official Špela Spanžel told reporters ahead of the opening.
Being the national UNESCO World Heritage coordinator, Spanžel also discussed the importance of the serial nomination of the prehistoric pile-dwellings in the area around the Alps for the UNESCO listing.
The first section of the show presents the wheel in its primary context, while the second section focuses on the wheel as one of the most important technological inventions and the third on the symbolic level.
The broad concept of the show is meant to encourage visitors to reflect on the inseparability of science, art and heritage, the author Irena Šinkovec explained.
Running until 20 April 2014, the exhibition is designed in such a way that it can travel to other European cities. A series of accompanying events will include ten smaller monthly displays and a light installation at Ljubljana Castle in the summer.
The public broadcaster RTV Slovenija is shooting a film on the wooden wheel which is to be released in the autumn. Culture programme editor Maja Bahar said the film would show the wheel as the engine of humanity's technological development.
Slovenian Venice Biennale Exhibition Draws International Praise

The Slovenian pavilion at the ongoing Venice Art Exhibition, featuring the "For Our Economy and Culture" project by Jasmina Cibic, has received international praise. The ArtReview magazine has listed among the top 20 at the Biennale, while the British paper The Independent describes it as one of the highlights of the show.
The Independent points to Cibic's exhibition as an example of the tension between national representation and artistic subversion that runs throughout the Biennale.
Cibic has covered the entire interior of the Slovenian pavilion with wallpaper printed with images of a beetle named after Hitler. Discovered in a Slovenian cave in the 1930s, the beetle points to the acceptance of Fascism in the nation's past, the paper says.
"From afar, the wallpaper appears elegant; up close, the walls appear to swarm psychedelically with vermin."
Commissioned by The Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, "Cibic's work is intelligent, humorous, and angry - a highlight this year", according to the paper.
Praise for Cibic, who reshaped the entire pavilion into Slovenia's parliament house, also came from the Austrian daily Der Standard. The paper is excited about Cibic's concept, based on the questions of what state art is and what role the artist plays in it, as well as about the use of space in the project.
The most technologically advanced prefabricated house in Europe

A few days ago, the Slovenian company Lumar IG opened its Lumar active house, which is the most technologically advanced prefabricated house in Europe. The building is the result of Slovenian know-how and development and follows the relevant guidelines to reduce impacts on the environment, encourage greater use of renewable energy sources and provide pleasant living conditions.

Zebrasti kolač
Zanimiv, okusen in zelo sočen kolač, ki bo hitro našel svoje mesto v vaši zbirki najljubših receptov za sladice in peciva.
Sestavine za 10 oseb 250 ml sončničnega olja 250 g sladkorja 100 ml mleka 4 srednje velika jajca 1 žlička vanilijevega ekstrakta (arome) 300 g moke
1 žlička pecilnega praška 25 g kakava v prahu 1 žlička naribane pomarančne lupine olje za namastitev pekača
Priprava
1	Pečico segrejemo na 180 stopinj Celzija. Okrogel pekač za torte s snemljivim obodom namastimo z oljem. Dno pekača obložimo s papirjem za peko, ki ga spet rahlo namastimo z oljem.
2	V večji skledi zmešamo olje, mleko, jajca, sladkor in vanilijev ekstrakt. Najbolje je, da mešamo z ročno metlico, da v zmes ne vmešamo preveč zraka. Zmes razdelimo na dva dela.
3	Na en del zmesi presejemo 175 g moke. Dodamo še 0,5 žličke pecilnega praška in vse skupaj zmešamo v gladko zmes brez grudic.
4	Na drugi del zmesi presejemo 125 g moke in kakav v prahu. Dodamo še 0,5 žličke pecilnega praška in naribano pomarančno lupinico ter vse skupaj zmešamo v gladko zmes brez grudic.
5	Na sredino pekača z žlico položimo kupček svetle mase. Na sredino svetle mase nato z žlico položimo kupček temne mase. Postopek ponavljamo toliko časa, dokler ne porabimo obeh mas.
6	Kolač pečemo v ogreti pečici približno 35 minut. Kolač je pečen, ko se na površini zlato rjavo obarva, na zobotrebcu, ki ga zapičimo v testo, pa ne ostane nobenih sledi, ko ga izvlečemo.
7	Ko je kolač pečen, ga odstranimo iz pečice in pustimo stati v pekaču nekaj minut, da se ohladi. Nato ga odstranimo iz pekača in povsem ohladimo na rešetki.
8	Še topel ali povsem hladen kolač serviramo na večji krožnik in razrežemo na poljubno velike kose, ki jih serviramo na krožnike in postrežemo. Po želji kolač ponudimo skupaj s kepico sladoleda.
Dodatni nasveti
Najbolje je, da uporabite biopomaranče, katerih lupina ni obdelana s škropivi. Če biopomaranč nimate na voljo, pomarančo za nekaj minut potopite v vrelo vodo, nato pa jo dobro obrišite, da odstranite vosek, v katerem so strupi.
Namesto sončničnega olja lahko uporabimo kakšno drugo rastlinsko olje neizrazitega okusa.
Vanilijev ekstrakt (izvleček) lahko kupimo ali pripravimo sami.

Slovenska pevska diva Helena Blagne se po sedemnajstih letih zakona z Mitjem Zamanom ločuje. Govorice o njuni razvezi so se v javnosti sicer pojavile že pred nekaj meseci, zdaj pa je to postalo tudi uradno.

Zakona slovenske pevske dive je konec. "Helena Blagne je sprožila postopek za razvezo zakona," so sporočili iz glasbene založbe Dallas in dodali, da dodatnih informacij nimajo.
Helena in njen mož Mitja sta se za različni poti odločila po 17 letih skupnega življenja, v zakonu pa se jima je rodil sin Kristjan. Njune razkošne poroke v Ljubljani zagotovo ne bo pozabilo veliko njenih oboževalcev. Gneča na Prešernovem trgu je bila ogromna, saj so vsi želeli videti Heleno, ki je nosila belo obleko in krono, s katero je spominjala na kraljico.
Govorice o ločitvi zakoncev Zaman so se sicer pojavile že pred meseci, a Helena o svojem zasebnem življenju ni želela dajati izjav oziroma je govorice zanikala. Kaj je vodilo do takšne odločitve, tako ni znano. Naj bi pa bile v zadnjem času jabolko spora med zakoncema slabe poslovne odločitve, zaradi katerih naj bi imela tudi precej finančnih težav.

Hidria the Most Innovative Company in Europe

Slovenian industrial conglomerate Hidria has been declared the most innovative company in Europe as part of the European Business Awards, which were conferred in Istanbul.
More than 15,000 companies competed for the award in 10 categories and Hidria was the only Slovenian company to get shortlisted, the Idrija-based company said in a press release.
It was picked for its innovative solutions concerning products, technologies and business models, which "contribute significantly to a green mobility of the future and to raising air quality of buildings integrated into the natural environment", Iztok Seljak of Hidria wrote.
He highlighted a "radical" exhaust emissions reduction in new-generation diesel engines, highly efficient hybrid and electrical propulsion for cars of the future, solar air-conditioning of buildings and the Feniks construction consortium for SE Europe as Hidria's key achievements.
The European Business Awards are being handed out since 2007. The 15,000 companies which competed this year generate almost 10% of the entire GDP of the EU and employ almost three million people.
