Gospod je moj Pastir, nič mi ne manjka ...
Ob nedelji dobrega pastirja, pravega in gorečega, se z besedami blaženega J.H. Newmana, na naši poti v nebesa, priporočimo Kristusu, da bi nas vodil:
O, vodi me, dobrotna, blaga Luč! V temi, ki me obdaja, vodi me! Temna je noč in daleč sem od doma, ti vodi me, ti razsvetljuj mi pot! Ne prosim, da bi v širne zrl daljave: naj vidim pred seboj le za korak
Drugačen bil sem kakor zdaj nekoč, te nisem prosi, da me vodiš ti; želel sem sam določati si pota: a zanaprej ti vodi me povsod! Predan napuhu bil sem in praznoti: O, ne spominjaj mojih se zablod!
Bila z menoj je zdavnaj tvoja moč, me varno bo vodila še naprej prek pušč, močvar in rek besnečih, dokler ne mine noč in prismejó se v svitu jutra angelov obrazi, pozabljenih za hip, spet ljubih kot nekoč
spomladanski banket - V nedeljo, 14. aprila 2013 smo imeli v župniji »malo žegnanje« ali spomladanski banket. Pri slovenski sveti maši je prepeval župnijski mešani zbor, nekaj narodnih pesmi pa je zapel tudi popoldne , ob koncu kosila, v župnijski dvorani. Med kosilom smo si lahko ogledali nekaj slik od zadnjega banketa. Udeležba je bila sorazmerno dobra. Okrog dvesto se nas je zbralo. Ob poravnanih računih je ostal tudi lep dobiček in sicer 6528 dolarjev. Hvala Mileni in pomočnicam v kuhinji za dobro in okusno kosilo; hvala mladim za pomoč pri strežbi, hvala tudi vsem članom župnijskega sveta, ki so nosili težo organizacije in priprave.

Na sliki levo: Prekop pokojnega škofa Gregorja Rožmana iz Lemonta /Michigan/ v Ljubljansko stolnico sv. Nikolaja. Pokop je 13. aprila 2013 vodil ljubljanski nadškof Anton Stres in z njim je ob polni stolnici somaševalo nad 200 duhovnikov.
Morda nekateri ne veste, da naša župnija nosi ime zavetnika sv. Gregorija Velikega prav v spomin na pokojnega škofa Gregorija Rožmana.
Moški zbor Območne obrtno-podjetniške zbornice Šmarje pri Jelšah bo gostoval v naši župnijski cerkvi v soboto 4. maja 2013. Pel bo med večerno sveto mašo /ob 5:30/, po maši pa bodo dodali še kakšno pesem iz svojega bogatega repertoarja.
V mesecu maju bomo imeli še enega glasbenega gosta.LUKA DEBEVEC-MAJER iz Argentine, ki je bil na gotovanju pri nas pred dvema letoma na spomladanskem banketu. Kanadski slovenski kongres ga je za 11. maja povabil na Brown's Line. Pri nas bo nastopil v soboto, 18. maja 2013 pri večerni maši; po maši pa nam bo zapel še kakšno primerno. Vabljeni!

Response: "We are his people: the sheep of his pasture."
First Reading Acts 13:14. 43-52 Paul and Barnabas meet local Jewish opposition to the message of Christ and so widen their audience to proclaim to the pagans the hope of eternal life.
Second Reading Apocalypse 7:9. 14-17 The Lamb of God enthroned in the new Jerusalem leads those who believe to springs of living water where they find peace and joy.
Gospel_John 10:27-30
Jesus the Good Shepherd promises the gift of eternal life to those who trust in him.

In the early catacombs of Rome, we find graphic images of the Good Shepherd. Often they show the figure of a young Christ who carries a lamb across his shoulders. The frescos show the intimacy between the shepherd and his sheep; between Christ and his beloved. Other similar sculptures are found on early Christian tombs. In contrast to ancient Roman pagan tombs, no longer is the image that of a Roman warrior but rather that of Christ who carries his sheep warmly and lovingly. 116 | VESTNIK 2013
The words of the twenty-third Psalm are well known to many people, whether they practise their religion in church or not. As we sing, "Fresh and green are the pastures where you give me repose. Near restful waters you lead me to revive my drooping spirit." The image of the love of Jesus the Good Shepherd for his flock is enduring and comforting. In the harsh desert wilderness of Judaea the flock is utterly dependent upon the shepherd for refuge and shelter, for protection from wolves and wild animals and for being led to the wadis - the dry riverbeds - where water can be found after rain and lush vegetation for food.
Gospel Teaching
Jesus the Good Shepherd presents us with an image of compassion, love and care; a person in whom we can trust and have confidence. The Good Shepherd only seeks the good for his sheep, never ill. Unlike the sheep who react by instinct and learnt habit, as human persons we can choose to follow the shepherd or not. We have the choice to listen to his voice as found in the living words of the scriptures and the Church's tradition or to go our own way. When we place our trust in his love and accept the Gospel, he promises both the gift of eternal life and protection from the forces of evil that are always defeated by the love of God. We can rest securely on the shoulders of the shepherd who will carry us to safety.
It is this promise that sustains Paul and Barnabas to work tirelessly for the spread of the Gospel. Although Paul is initially well received in Antioch, by the second day some of the Jewish people have organised themselves to oppose him. As the argument develops, Paul and Barnabas are expelled and sent away. Rather than being discouraged, Paul sees this as an opportunity to preach to the Gentiles and further spread the word of God. He knows that nothing, whether death or life, persecution or opposition, power or creature, can come between himself and the love of God for him in
Christ Jesus. Nothing is able to steal away a disciple of Christ, because the Father is stronger than anyone. What confidence this can give us as disciples, to be faithful and courageous!
A wonderful image of heaven is presented in the book of the Apocalypse. In the new Jerusalem, the heavenly city, the Lamb of God is enthroned and lights the city. A majestic choir sings in front of the Lamb, the great communion of saints who have been proved worthy by following his way. The Lamb leads them to springs of living water and eternal life.
Application
What about us? Firstly, we are invited to listen to the voice of the shepherd, Jesus Christ. We are called to cultivate a living relationship in prayer and to listen to his word. Our age makes it difficult to listen. We are easily distracted and eager to get on with the next task. Maybe we are bombarded by noise. Listening is difficult and yet the wisdom of the monastic tradition is that we need time to listen and pray.
Secondly, we are invited to place our trust and have confidence in the Father's love. Nothing is greater than his love for us. We may feel threatened, weak, vulnerable or fearful of opposition to the Gospel and the values that follow from that. We are invited to renew our trust. The image of Jesus carrying us on his shoulders is one that will comfort and strengthen.
We journey towards heaven as pilgrims with no abiding city on earth, confident that our homeland is in heaven. The scene of the new Jerusalem reminds us that we are nourished by Jesus the living water. He nourishes and feeds us by his word and by receiving Holy Communion. Let us rejoice and sing, "Indeed, how good is the Lord, eternal his merciful love. He is faithful from age to age."

ORDINATION of Ausiliary Bishop_
On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, the
Diocese of Hamilton will celebrate the Ordination of our new Auxiliary Bishop, Most Reverend Daniel Joseph Miehm. All are welcome to attend the Ordination at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, 714 King Street West, Hamilton at 2:00 p.m. Invited guests will be seated in the main body of the Church; seating for overflow crowd will be arranged in the auditorium of the Cathedral with a live feed of the proceedings. For those seated in the auditorium, Bishop Miehm will bestow a blessing and Eucharistic Ministers will distribute Holy Communion.
In addition, Bishop Miehm will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Cathedral Basilica on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

CHANGE TO CWL'S ANNUAL PATRON MASS DATE_
The Catholic Women's League has changed the patroness, Our Lady of Good Counsel's Annual Mass to the actual feast day - Friday, April 26th at 7 pm. At our mass, we will be initiating 4 new members and awarding years of service pins for dedicated membership. The service will be followed by a small "congratulations" reception. We welcome all of our Catholic Women's League members and parishioners to attend and share this beautiful mass with us.
CWL Meetings - Our monthly meetings will be held the first Wednesday of every month, unless otherwise posted. The meeting for the month of May will be held on Wednesday May 1st, 2013 after mass.
SLOVENIAN CANADIAN SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION_
The Slovenian Canadian Scholarship Foundation invites you to participate in their 25th Annual Golf Tournament which will be held Saturday, May 25th at Rockway Glen Golf course in Vineland followed by the banquet at BLED, Beamsville.
The cost is $130 per person and includes golf, power cart, coffee &, donuts, sausage/hot dog and beverage, dinner & draw for prizes. The tournament will be a shot gun start at 11:30 AM sharp.
All proceeds go directly to the support of scholarships and bursaries for our Slovenian youth. Register early as last year was a sell out!!!
