Ponižnost in skromnost
Pri Judih je bila navada, da so v soboto po končanem večernem bogoslužju pripravili obed, h kateremu so gostitelji vabili predvsem prijatelje, sorodnike in druge ugledne osebnosti, vendar samo premožne. Medtem ko so sprva upoštevali predvsem ugled povabljenih in uglednim dajali prva mesta, so v Jezusovem času upoštevali tudi starost. Tako je nek prvak med farizeji povabil tudi Jezusa v svojo izbrano družbo. Jezus se je vabilu odzval. Navzoči so ga »budno opazovali« (v. 1), če bo storil kaj takega, kar ne bi smel v soboto ali povedal kaj takega, da bi ga lahko tožili. Kakor so povabljeni Jezusa opazovali, tako je tudi Jezus njih opazoval, kako so si izbirali prva mesta in nato spregovoril povabljenim in gostitelju.
Med povabljenimi so bili tudi farizeji. Ker so bili idejni tvorci farizeizma pismouki, so bili med farizeji vedno tudi pismouki, čeprav ni bil vsak farizej pismouk. Za pismouke pa je znano, „da so imeli radi pozdrave na trgih, prve sedeže v shodnicah in prve prostore na gostijah" (20, 46). Tudi vpričo Jezusa se niso obnašali drugače, zato jim je povedal priliko: „Kadar te kdo povabi na gostijo..." (v. 8-10).
Namen Jezusovega pripovedovanja ni v tem, da bi človeka obvaroval pred blamažo, Jezus tudi ne uči osnovnih oblik olikanega vedenja, ki jih ljudska modrost izraža s pregovorom: „Kdor visoko leta, nizko pade." Jezus ne pridiga bontona, ampak s priliko pove, kakšna mora biti naša notranjost. Globlji smisel prilike je, da mora biti vsak skromen in majhen pred svojim Bogom. Zanimivo je, da Jezus zaključi tako pouk povabljenim kot pouk gostitelju z mislijo na vesoljno sodbo. Vsak, kdor se v tem življenju povišuje, ga bo Bog pri sodbi vpričo vseh ponižal, in kdor se v tem življenju ponižuje, ga bo Bog pri sodbi vpričo vseh povišal.
V takšnem ozračju dobijo Jezusove besede še globlji pomen. Jezus s tem uči dvoje: pasti morajo pregraje med ljudmi in vse, karkoli delamo, moramo delati z mislijo na prihodnjo sodbo, ko bo Bog povrnil vsakemu po njegovih delih: „Povrnjeno ti bo namreč ob vstajenju pravičnih".
TURNIR V BALINANJU - 2013
Društvo sv. Jožefa vsako leto organizira turnir v balinanju. Letos se je odvijal bolj zgodaj, namreč že v soboto, 31. avgusta. Že nekaj časa so se vsako popoldne zbirali igralci in trenirali spretnosti, kako zakotaliti svojo krolo najbližje balincu.
Tekmovanje se je začelo ob desetih dopoldne, ko so izžrebali tekmovalce za posamezne skupine. Tekmovale so naslednje skupine: St. Joseph Divison: MURA /Frank Pinter, Jože Groznik, Silvo Kosic, Magda Benc. KRKA /Ernest Zrim, Jožica Erzar, Edy Kodarin, Vinko Benc/, SAVA /Aldo Česen, Slavko Slobodnik, Frank Erzar, Štefan Kodrič/, DRAVA /Štefan Gaspar, Frank Rihar, Ignac Horvat, Jaka Muhič/.
St. Gregory Division: LEDAVA /Ivan Miketič, Vinko Arch, Milan Zakrajšek, Jožica Groznik/, SOČA /Rudy Setej, Tony Slana, Tony Šverko, Marija Zakrajšek/, REKA /Frank Pavlakovič, Andrej Leban, Ignac Prša, Miha Špiler/.
Po napetih tekmah so se na koncu izkazale najboljše tri eikpe, ki so prejele tudi nagrade, ostali igralci pa samo tolažilne nagrade za sodelovanje. Prvo mesto je zasedla skupina SOČA, drugo mesto
skupina REKA, tretje mesto pa skupina MURA. Ob koncu tekmovanja smo napravili še skupno sliko, igralci in navijači, potem pa | smo se napotili k dobre-mu kosilu, ki nas je čakalo v prostorih svetega Jožefa.
Hvala g. Jerry-ju in odboru društva, za pripravo tako lepega dogodka, pa tudi gospodinjam, ki so poskrbele, da nihče ni bil lačen. Znova in znova taki dogodki še tesneje povezuje našo skupnost.

Jesus turns a mirror on those who like to "keep others in their place".
"He noticed how they picked the places
of honour "Not In the days of Brian Boru, in tenth-century Ireland, there were as many as 150 kings, local chieftains, who ruled their own small territories. Brian Boru was to become the last great High King of Ireland, but in his early days, while he was still a local chieftain, there is a story told of him that would warm any heart.
On one of his journeys, Brian came to visit another local king. When it was time to dine, one of Brian's entourage came up to him in great agitation. Brian asked the man what was the matter. "My Lord," said his servant, "these people have insulted you. They have given you a lesser place at their table, when they should have seated you at the head." Brian smiled and, turning to his servant, said, "Do not distress yourself. Wherever Brian Boru sits is the head of the table!"
In this little incident we see a man who is quietly confident of his own place in the world, a man who does not need the adulation or deference of others to know his own worth. His dignity resides in himself. He does not need others to con-
stantly tell him how wonderful he is. Social status comes from our inner virtue, not from outward marks of worldly glory.
When Jesus goes to dine at the house of the Pharisee, he notices how all the other guests have made sure of their own positions. The atmosphere of the evening is not relaxed. Everyone there is scrutinising this young preacher. What will he do? What will he say? How will he behave? Jesus decides not to disappoint them. He tells them a story about going to a wedding. Jesus seems to like wedding stories. They are great images of the world, of life and of God's inviting us to take a proper part in the life of God's own kingdom.
It is good to conduct ourselves in this world with humility and not to go marching up to the front as if it is our due. That is the gist of Jesus' story. We are all invited to this wedding, not just some of us. We all have a seat at the table. Demanding or expecting special treatment is no way to behave. Jesus then goes on to tell a second story, about poor people and underprivileged people, and of how they never get invitations to a wedding, never get invited to share in life's bounty.
During that evening's dinner party, Jesus has seen clearly how we go wrong. First, we like to put people in an order of importance and to make sure that the privileges we have garnered for ourselves do not get squandered on others. And second, there are some people who we consider do not deserve to be at the party of life at all. Look, the Lord is saying to us, you have all this wealth and all this food, and you forget about those who are penniless and starving. Jesus does not despise our parties, those gatherings of family and friends, which are the real joy of our lives. They are lovely and important occasions. Jesus is telling us, in our good fortune, to remember those who are hungry and poor.

PIKNIK pri DRUŠTVU SAVA -Nedelja, 25. avgust 2013_
V nedeljo, 25. avgusta smo imeli pri društvu Sava-Breslav najprej sveto mašo, potem pa se je nadaljevalo z dobrim kosilom in popoldanskim piknikom. Igral je ansambel Brajda; nekateri so se zavrteli, drugi poklepetali, tretji balinali, otroci pa uživali na igralih. Bil je lep dan za vse, ki so
ga znali izkoristiti za razvedrilo in sprostitev.

ZBOR - PEVSKE VAJE
V četrtek, 5. septembra bomo začeli s pevskimi vajami za župnijski mešani pevski zbor. Pred nami je naše župnijsko žegnanje -jesenski banket in začetek praznovanja 50. letnice ustanovitve naše župnije. Pripravili se bomo za pesmi pri maši in še kakšno pesem za popoldanski program, med jesenskim banketom.

Vstopamo v mesec september. Na prvi petek bom obiskoval bolnike, zvečer ob šestih bo prilika za sveto spoved in molitev pred Najsvetejšim. Nato bo sledila sveta maša.
CWL Monthly Meetings Resume
Now that Fall is just around the corner, this is a reminder that our CWL meetings will resume, beginning this coming Wednesday, September 4,2013 at 7:30pm after mass. Our meetings will be held regularly at this time on the first Wednesday of every month. We would also like to take this opportunity to invite all ladies of our community to come out and join our CWL circle of friends.

V	mesecu septembru bo večna luč gorela za pokojne iz družin Saje in Gazvoda po namenu Lojzke Saje.
ROMANJE V MIDLAND	i
V	soboto, 7. septembra 2013, m H bo v Midlandu tradicionalno srečanje Slovencev. Že dalj časa nismo organizirali skupnega romanja. Letos smo se odločili, ker ne gremo na Baragove dneve, da bi šli vsaj sem, saj je pot veliko krajša.
Odhod avtobusa bo ob 8:00 zjutraj izpred naše cerkve, vračamo pa se do 5:00 popoldne. Ob 10:30 bo program pri križu, nato križev pot in ob dvanajstih bo v cerkvi sveta maša. Po maši boste imeli še nekaj časa , da si ogledate park in se tudi telesno podprete. Vzemite si kaj za pod zob, da ne boste lačni. Odhod avtobusa proti domu bo ob 3:00 popoldne. Bodite točni

SLOVENSKA ŠOLA - SLOVENIAN SCHOOL
Dear parents,
September is here and the school doors are open for another year. This means that it will also be time for SLOVENIAN SCHOOL.
If you have a child in Kindergarten or older in English school, he/she is eligible to enroll in Slovenian School. Be proud of your culture and heritage! As descendants of our small Slovenian nation, let's make it possible for our children to become acquainted with their ancestral homeland and learn Slovenian. One day they will thank you for having the foresight and the interest in sending them to Slovenian school. We all feel the need to offer our children extra curricular activities in sports, music, dance, etc. Don't you think that it is just as important to offer them the opportunity to broaden their intellect by learning the language of their parents or grandparents? We urge you to think about it and send your children to SLOVENIAN SCHOOL!
Our programs are easily comprehended and are geared towards the ability of the children. They are made along the lines of the ones used in English schools so that they can be easily followed and understood. Our Kindergarten and Level One programs are geared towards children who do not speak any Slovenian. Accordingly, they concentrate on vocabulary building by listening to stories, tapes, videos, games and conversation, etc. - with no formal reading and writing, to prepare them for level 2 where they will be eased into reading and writing in Slovenian only when they are ready for it.
Registration for SLOVENIAN SCHOOL is on September 14 and 21, from 10:00 am to 12:00pm in the classroom behind the upper hall.
Although our goal is to teach the children to read, write and speak Slovenian, more importantly, it is to instill into them a Slovenian identity, a feeling of love and pride towards their Slovenian roots and their cultural heritage. Because our Slovenian School is a part of the Slovenian community, it also gives the children a sense of belonging. It is a place where they make lasting friendships.
Our children are the guarantee for the continuance of our Slovenian identity. It is important that we work together to keep their interest alive. We, on our part, are striving to make it interesting for them. In the summers of 2000, 2004, 2008 and this past summer, we organized an excursion to Slovenia to give the children the opportunity to see and experience Slovenia, first hand. The last three excursions were unforgettable for the children, a great success, so we look forward to possibly organizing another one down the road. In turn, dear parents, you must do your part as well! Please give SLOVENIAN SCHOOL your full consideration and register your children on Sept. 14 and 21. If you have friends, who are of Slovenian background and this notice does not reach them, please tell them and encourage them to send their children to our school.
Be proud that you are Slovenian and give your children the same opportunity! We look forward to seeing you!
