Pri tem so v prvem koraku ugotavljali vsebinsko znanje mehanike in elektromagnetizma ter v drugem zmožnost naravoslovnega razmišljanja. V prvem koraku so se Kitajci, ki so imeli v srednji šoli veliko fizike, odrezali veliko bolje od Američanov. V drugem koraku pa med obojimi ni bilo razlike.
