It highlights the major figures, ideas, and events that have shaped statistics as both a scientific discipline and a tool for understanding the world. Prepared as a translation and adaptation of an anniversary review from the journal Significance, the text traces the evolution of statistics from its earliest origins in antiquity to the rise of modern data science.
