Since the tapes recordedby the battery-powered field tape recorder could not be reproduced by the studio tape recorder they had to be dubbed before they could be transcribed and analyzed. Material processing yielded new ethnomusicological discoveries which could not have been found by analyzing solely the manuscript material. Understanding this manner of research and recording as well as knowing about the technical possibilities of the recording machines ofthe time can greatly facilitate today,s dubbing, protection, filing, organizing, and also evaluation of this materialAvtor v prispevku opise prva terenska magnetofonska snemanja Glasbenonarodo-pisnega inštituta v letu 1955 in navede nekatere tehnične značilnosti magnetofonov, ki jih je institut takrat imel. Ker z baterijskim terenskim magnetofonom posnetih trakov niso mogli predvajati na studijskem magnetofonu, so jih presneli in sele tako presneto gradivo transkribirali in analizirali. Obdelava gradiva je prinesla nova etnomuzikološka odkritja, ki jih do takrat iz samih zapisovanj niso mogli odkriti.
