This was the first in a series of similar unsuccessful experiments. At the bicentenary it appears worthwhile to describe Arago's experiment and to elucidate Arago's starting point. To explain the outcome of the experiment Augustin Fresnel introduced the idea of aether drag. Some facts of Arago's life and works are addedFrançois Arago je leta 1810 poskusil izmeriti, kako se hitrost svetlobe spremeni zaradi gibanja Zemlje. To je bil prvi v vrst podobnih neuspešnih poskusov. Ob dvestoletnici se zdi vredno opisati Aragojev poskus in osvetliti Aragojevo izhodišče. Da bi pojasnil izid poskusa, je Augustin Fresnel uvedel zamisel, da del etra sledi gibanju telesa.
