It is therefore necessary to prioritize renovation interventions. Multi-criteria assessment can support scientifically sound and informed decisions about interventions. This paper presents the results of a research carried out in order to identify a multi-criteria method for the assessment of architectural heritage, specifically for castles. The methodology used to develop the multi-criteria method is presented, particularly the results of a critical content analysis of relevant literature, the results of the comparative analysis between the Slovenian and international space, and the identification of relevant criteria and sub-criteria of the method. The course and the results of empirical research, based on interviews with selected experts, are presented along with the results of the classification criteria of importance based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. A series of interviews was carried out also among postgraduate students of relevant study programmes and the results were compared with those from the previous research among the experts The research work, presented in the paper, is interdisciplinary and brings together tangible and intangible aspects of cultural heritage in an innovative manner.The results of the research confirm that rational determination of relative importance of individual criteria for the assessment of architectural heritage can help the decision-makers to identify buildings with higher refurbishment priorityOhranjanje nepremične dediščine je povezano z visokimi stroški, ki praviloma presegajo razpoložljiva finančna sredstva, zato je treba določiti prioritete obnovitvenih posegov. Večkriterijska ocena je lahko podpora znanstveno utemeljenemu in informiranemu odločanju o posegih. V prispevku so predstavljeni rezultati raziskave, opravljene z namenom opredelitve večkriterijske metode za oceno stavbne dediščine, konkretno za gradove. Prikazana je metodologija opredelitve metode, in sicer rezultati kritične vsebinske analize izbrane literature, rezultati primerjalne analize med slovenskim in mednarodnim prostorom, predlog opredelitve kriterijev in podkriterijev metode, potek in rezultati empirične raziskave na podlagi intervjujev z izbranimi strokovnjaki in rezultati razvrstitve kriterijev po pomembnosti na podlagi metode analitično-hierarhičnega procesa (AHP). Vrsto intervjujev smo opravili tudi na vzorcu študentov relevantnih študijskih smeri in rezultate primerjali z rezultati predhodne raziskave med strokovnjaki. Raziskovalno delo, predstavljeno v prispevku, je interdisciplinarno in inovativno združuje materialne in nematerialne vidike ohranjanja kulturne dediščine.
