Expert estimates indicate that nursing calculations are accurate in 60–90% of cases. Digital technology holds significant potential to minimise medication calculation errors. The aim of this study was to determine whether the NurseCal mobile app enhances the accuracy and speed of medication dosage calculations among nursing students compared to traditional calculation methods. Methods: To evaluate the impact of the NurseCal mobile app, this study used a quantitative, quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group post-test-only research design and was conducted among second and third-year nursing students (n = 198) in April 2022. The control group completed seven calculations manually, while the experimental group used the NurseCal app. Data were analysed using the Shapiro-Wilk test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Students using the NurseCal mobile app completed the calculations more quickly (U = 619, p = 0.001) and with statistically significantly greater accuracy (U = 7372, p < 0.001).Discussion and conclusion: The study confirmed the usability of the NurseCal mobile app for calculating medication doses and flow rates among students, which could reduce errors. There is potential for the use of this mobile app in both educational and healthcare settings, but further research is needed to explore its use in clinical practice with other populations and larger samples</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Uvod: Preračunavanje odmerkov in hitrosti pretoka zdravil je ključni del zdravstvene nege, ki neposredno vpliva na varnost zdravljenja in zdravje pacientov. Strokovne ocene kažejo, da so izračuni v zdravstveni negi natančni v 60–90 % primerov. Ugotovljene so bile statistično pomembne razlike v pravilnosti izračunov (U = 7372, p < 0,001). Diskusija in zaključek: Z raziskavo smo potrdili uporabnost mobilne aplikacije NurseCal za izračun odmerkov in hitrosti pretoka zdravil s strani študentov. S tem bi lahko zmanjšali število napak. Možnost uporabe obstaja tako v izobraževalni kot zdravstveni dejavnosti, vendar bi bilo njeno uporabo v klinični praksi smiselno predhodno raziskati še na drugih populacijah in večjih vzorcih</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-YL4UDIMP"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-YL4UDIMP" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-YL4UDIMP/ebc98a41-b522-46ee-b46c-22ba152e8145/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Zbornica zdravstvene in babiške nege Slovenije - Zveza strokovnih društev medicinskih sester, babic in zdravstvenih tehnikov Slovenije</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-YL4UDIMP/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-YL4UDIMP" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
