We use cross-sectional household data from the Household Budget Survey to estimate expenditures and price elasticities for households segmented by income levels and for Slovenia as a whole. Food demand, namely demand for seven food groups, is estimated as a simultaneous system of these demand equations. The Linear Approximate Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/AIDS) method is applied. According to expenditures and price elasticities, Slovenia seems to be losing consumption characteristics typical for countries in transition. Moreover, consumption patterns are becoming like those in developed countries; however, some unique food habits persist</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Namen študije je analiza prehranskih navad Slovencev v zadnji fazi tranzicije. Podatki iz ankete o porabi v gospodinjstvih so bili osnova za ocenjevanje izdatkovnih in cenovnih elastičnosti povpraševanja, in sicer za posamezna gospodinjstva, razdeljena v dohodkovne razrede, in za Slovenijo v celoti. Povpraševanje po hrani, natančneje po sedmih skupinah živil, je ocenjeno kot simultan sistem enačb povpraševanja po teh skupinah živil. Uporabili smo metodo linearne aproksimacije skoraj idealnega sistema povpraševanja (LA/AIDS).
