Beacause more than 80% of today's data contain spatial component, the number of the users increases dramatically especially among non-traditional users of GIS. At the end, the importance of standardization in GIS as a base for globalization process and decisions is considered briefly"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"V članku obravnavamo geografske informacijske sisteme (GIS) kot povezovalni člen današnjih informacijskih rešitev. Predstavljeno tezo obravnavamo glede na integracijo podatkov, integracijo znanj in integracijo uporabnikov. Za GIS je značilna množica specifičnih tipov podatkov, ki jih moramo predstaviti in obravnavati na različne, specifične načine. Integracijo znanj obravnavamo s stališča uporabnikov, razvijalcev aplikacij in razvijalcev orodij. Glede na to, da več kot 80% podatkov vsebuje prostorsko komponento, se število uporabnikov GIS veča tudi na področjih, do nedavnega rezerviranih za alfanumerične obdelave.
