Zrak ob cestah je zato obremenjen z onesnaževali kot so dušikovi oksidi, ogljikov monoksid, lahko hlapni ogljikovodiki, delci in še nekateri drugi. Spremljanje stanja kakovosti ozračja ob cestah je z vidika proučevanja vplivov prometa na kakovost zraka ključno pri ocenjevanju okoljskih vplivov prometne dejavnosti.
