Bourdieu (1983) defines the acquired level of individuals% education as "institutionalized cultural capital" in terms of a formal recognition or credential that certifies specific qualifications. According to Bourdieu social class differences between individuals occur through distinct levels of acquired education and knowledge. By using the adapted questionnaire for active athletes (AS-01, Doupona Topič, 2005), we examined the achieved level of education in 184 both former and active Slovenian national football players as well as the achieved education level of their parents. Non-parametric Mann-Whitney test was used to determine the differences in education level between football players and their parents. The results of descriptive statistics show that most of the football players (61.0%) achieved high school education level. Only 5.6% of the football players completed a university degree. It seems that acquiring tertiary education level in a time period when football players mostly deal with sports is a very demanding task</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Glavni namen pričujoče študije je bil ugotoviti značilnosti izobrazbe vrhunskih reprezentančnih nogometašev (N = 184) in jo primerjati z izobrazbo njihovih staršev. Bourdieu (1983) definira pridobljeno stopnjo izobrazbe posamezne osebe kot "institucionalizirani kulturni kapital". Tako razlaga kulturni kapital kot z izobraževanjem in okoljem pridobljeno znanje, ki oblikuje razredne razlike med posamezniki. Na vzorcu 184 tako bivših kot aktivnih slovenskih reprezentančnih nogometašev smo s pomočjo prirejenega vprašalnika za aktivne športnike (AS-01) po avtorici Doupona Topič (2005) preučili doseženo stopnjo izobrazbe reprezentančnih nogometašev ter njihovih staršev. Za ugotavljanje razlik med nogometaši in njihovimi starši smo uporabili neparametrični Mann-Whitneyjev test. Rezultati deskriptivne statistike kažejo, da je večina nogometašev (61,0 %) dosegla srednjo šolsko izobrazbo. Visoko šolo je dokončalo v celoti samo 5,6 % nogometašev.
