The aetiology of the wet condition is discussed and the involvement of bacteria and fungi considered. WH is sourraned by the (a) \"Abscission\" dry zone as a result of the abscissionof the innermost senescent sapwood and (b) \"Injury initiated\" dry zone resulting from damage to tracheary elements in sapwood and subsequent release of hydrostatic tension with probable participation of dying parenchymacells. WH is characterized by high cation concentration and low osmotic potential showing that accumulation of liquid in wetwood might be osmotic in nature. Obvious dehidration of WH indicates its probable role as water depot for needs in prolonged droughts. The origin of the WH- water has never been satisfactorily explained. Possible mechanisms of wetting are presented (bacterial metabolism, capillarity, root pressure, osmotic transport, penetration through branch stubs). Strength properties and elastic modulus of WH may be lower due to the bacterial corrosion of the middle lamella between cells. In our study (unpublished) no close relationship between the age, tree dimensions, tree vigour, site and occurence of SW could be found"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Mokro srce (MS) pri jelki lahko nastane v jedrovini (jedrovinsko moko srce, JMS) ali/in v beljavi (beljavsko mokro srce, BMS). Diskutira se o etiologiji mokrega stanja ter udeležbi bakterij in gliv v procesu. MS obdajata dva tipa suhe cone (SC) (predlog): (a) \"Abscisijska\" SC vzdržuje homeostazo v deblu in uravnoveša beljavo z listno površino; posledica je abscisija notranje senescentne beljave. (b) \"Poškodbena\" SC je posledica ranitve prevodnih elementov v beljavi in sproščanja hidrostatske tenzije ob verjetni udeležbi umirajočih parenhimskih celic. Za MS je značilna visoka koncentracija kationovin nizek ozmotski potencial, kar nakazuje, da utegne biti kopičenje tekočine v MS ozmotske narave. Očitna dehidracija MS nakazuje verjetnost, da MS predstavlja vodni zalogo za potrebe dreevesa v času trdovratnih suš. Izvoravode v MS še niso zadovoljivo pojasnili. Predstavljeni so možni mehanizmi vlaženja (bakterijski metabolizem, kapilarnost, koreninski tlak, ozmotski transport, penetracija skozi vejne štrclje). Trdnostne lastnosti in elastičnostni modul so lahko nižji zaradi bakterjske korozije srednje lamele med celicami.
