The dominant discourse on both sides is hampering communication with negative stereotypes from the past, while ignoring centuries of peaceful coexistence and cooperation in science, philosophy, literature, etc. The West and East construe each otherč indeed, the existence of each depends on the existence of the Other. After all, Christianity as the religious and cultural pillar of Western civilisation is actually derived from the Middle EastOdnos med zahodom in vzhodom je na splošno obremenjen z negativnimi podobami in lekcijami iz preteklosti, ki se po množičnih medijih, izobraževalnem sistemu in centrih moči prenašajo tudi v sedanjost. Dominantni diskurz na obeh straneh obremenjuje medsebojno komunikacijo z bolj ali manj konfliktnimi zgodbami iz preteklosti, v večini primerov pa zanemarja stoletja miroljubne koeksistence ter sodelovanja na področju znanosti, filozofije, literature itd. Delitev na zahod in vzhod je nenaravna, saj drug drugega konstruirata in posamično nobeden izmed njiju ne bi obstajal.
