Although official discourse assigned women the role of guardians of the home and family, empirical examples from the Slovenian middle-class environment reveal that women were active participants in economic, social, and even political life. Their activities - from involvement in family businesses to the use of social events for political mediation - demonstrate that the private sphere was always intertwined with the public one and that women developed their own forms of influence and autonomy within these frameworks. Middle-class society thus revealed an internal contradiction between the ideological ideal of the “angel in the house” and the actual practices that enabled women, despite its limitations, to play an active role in shaping the system"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Analiza razmerja med zasebnim in javnim prostorom v 19. stoletju kaže, da je bila dihotomija med obema sferama v resnici mnogo bolj fluidna, kot so jo predstavljali sodobni ideologi in misleci.
