The paper investigates the most influential Darwinist argumentations supporting the notion of literature as an adaptation. The second purpose of the paper is to rethink the central position of adaptationism in literary Darwinist approaches to literature. The author maintains that: 1) the adaptionistic hypothesis about literature remains problematic, and 2) that the adaptionistic hypothesis does not necessarily play a central role in literary Darwinist research programs"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Ali je literatura evolucijska prilagoditev ali morda stranski produkt evolucije, je osrednje vprašanje posebne literarnovedne smeri, imenovane literarni darvinizem, katere predstavniki od devetdesetih let dvajsetega stoletja dalje raziskujejo morebitne zveze med principi teorije evolucije in literaturo. Članek sintetizira najvplivnejše literarnodarvinistične argumente v prid tezi, da je literatura evolucijska prilagoditev, in jih sooča s kritičnimi pomisleki, dekonstruira pa tudi pomen središčnosti spraševanja po evolucijskih funkcijah literature znotraj literarnega darvinizma in literarne vede nasploh.
