An analysis of the Video Biennial CD, organised in 1983-1989 at Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, reveals the unique role of the festival both in the territory of former Yugoslavia and on an international scale. This was the only occasion in the history of video art that a video festival enabled experiments with cutting-edge technology, the production of video art, and collaboration with state television. The conception of the Video Biennial CD could be interpreted as the climax of the idea underlying the first video production. Analiza bienala VIDEO CD, ki se je v letih 1983-1989 dogajal v Cankarjevem domu v Ljubljani, je pokazala, da je imel ta enkratni festival pomembno vlogo tako v bivšem jugoslovanskem prostoru kot v širšem mednarodnem prostoru, saj se je prvič in zadnjič v zgodovini videa zgodilo, da je festival omogočal tudi eksperimentiranje z najnovejšo tehnologijo, produkcijo video umetnosti ter sodelovanje z javno oz. državno televizijo.
