Within its programs, sport activities have been present for half a century. Basketball as a type of sport activity has in many ways paved the way for other sports in the Slovenian varsity sport structure. Analysis of the state of affairs in varsity basketball activities, the associated conditions both at home as well as abroad, provides potential possibilities for improvements in the quality of organisation, in professional competencies of individuals, in performance efficiency and to form potential future guidelines in this field. Systemic improvements are required in terms of upgrading of competitions within the university, participation of the varsity team in competitions abroad, as well as in terms of formation of an organisational scheme of development of the field, suitable for quick application. This proposition suggests real solutions for further and faster development of basketball activities within university sports. The thesis is also applicable to a broader context, as sports are managed centrally at the University"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Univerza v Ljubljani ima bogato in dolgoletno tradicijo obstoja. V okviru njenih programov delovanja je športna dejavnost prisotna že pol stoletja. Košarka kot športna panoga je v marsičem utirala začetno pot drugim športnim dejavnostim v slovenskem univerzitetnem športnem ustroju. Analiza stanja trenutnih univerzitetnih košarkarskih dejavnosti, njenih pogojev doma in v tujini, daje morebitne možnosti izboljšanja kvalitete organiziranosti, strokovne usposobljenosti posameznikov, doseganja boljše izvedbene uspešnosti ter oblikovanja možne prihodnje usmeritve na tem področju. Potrebne so sistemske izboljšave v smislu nadgradnje tekmovanj v okviru Univerze v Ljubljani in udeležbe njenih reprezentanc na mednarodnem parketu s postavitvijo organizacijske in izvedbene sheme razvoja tega področja, ki bi jo bilo mogoče kar najhitreje vpeljati v prakso. Pričujoči predlog predvideva realne rešitve, predvsem pa hitrejši razvoj košarkarskih dejavnosti univerzitetnega športa.
