Opisani so različni pristopi raziskovalcev in njihove metode merjenja kakovosti. Predstavljen je koncept individualnega pristopa k starostniku, ki lahko bistveno vpliva na kakovost življenja starih ljudi. Vsebuje štiri osnovna področja: upoštevanje starostnikove avtonomije indostojanstva; čim daljša samostojnost in spodbujanje k samooskrbi; zdravstvena vzgoja starostnika in njegove družine; ter timsko delo.
