These variables can also be determined using a rainfall-runoff hydrological model. If there are insufficient data to calibrate the hydrological model, the model parameters must be estimated according to the characteristics of the catchment. One of the parameters that is also considered by the commonly used hydrological model HEC-HMS is the catchment lag time. So far, empirical equations developed in other geographic areas (e.g., USA) have been used to estimate this parameter in Slovenian engineering practice. This article shows the methodology applied for developing the empirical equation for estimating the lag time parameter based on measured precipitation and discharge data using 20 selected river catchments in Slovenia. The derived equation can thus be used to estimate the lag time parameter in the case of ungauged catchments. Further studies need to be conducted in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed equations"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Za načrtovanje hidrotehničnih objektov in protipoplavnih gradbenih in negradbenih ukrepov za zmanjševanje poplavnih tveganj so ključnega pomena podatki o projektnih pretokih oziroma projektnih hidrogramih. Le-te lahko določimo tudi z uporabo hidrološkega modela padavine-odtok. V primeru, ko nimamo na voljo dovolj podatkov za umerjanje hidrološkega modela, je treba parametre modela oceniti glede na lastnosti porečij. Eden izmed parametrov, ki jih upošteva tudi pri nas pogosto uporabljeni hidrološki model HEC-HMS, je čas zakasnitve porečja. Do sedaj so se v slovenski vodarski praksi za oceno tega parametra večinoma uporabljale empirične enačbe, ki so bile razvite na drugih geografskih območjih (npr. ZDA). Prispevek prikazuje postopek določitve empiričnih enačb za oceno časa zakasnitve na podlagi merjenih podatkov o padavinah in pretokih za 20 izbranih porečij v Sloveniji. Izpeljane enačbe so se pri prvih poskusih uporabe izkazale za ustrezne in se tako že lahko uporabijo za oceno časa zakasnitve v primeru nemerjenih porečij v Sloveniji.
